In late fall, surveys are sent out to Kentucky employees. This confidential feedback accounts for 80% of a company’s score. While employees are providing feedback, the company is completing an employer assessment, which accounts for 20% of a company’s score.
Experts conduct an in-depth analysis of the assessment results to determine if a company has what it takes to be the best.
Each February, participating companies are notified whether or not they made the list of 100 companies.
Participating companies receive access to the Employee Feedback Data Dashboard with detailed data from the survey process. You will be able to view your percentage of positive and negative responses to each of the survey questions asked of employees, as well as employee comments and employee and employer benchmarking data. The online platform contains multiple levels of reporting.
Regardless of whether or not they made the list, participating companies use their survey results to drive change within their organization.
Each year our winning companies gather for a celebration where the rankings are announced.

As president of the Kentucky Chamber, I am excited to see so many Kentucky employers have such a strong commitment to their employees, especially while navigating the “new normal” over the past two years. I am proud to see that 60 of the 100 companies named in the Best Places to Work competition this year are members of the Kentucky Chamber. From banks to colleges, to health care facilities and manufacturers, this year’s winners represent a diverse cross-section of industries from all corners of the state. The Kentucky Chamber is proud to offer the Best Places to Work in Kentucky program – providing a perfect venue to celebrate the companies who are doing their part to make the Commonwealth a great place to live and work. We strive to do our part for Kentucky businesses year-round in the halls of our Capitol representing all Kentucky job-creators. Our 10-Year Winners for 2022 answer the question: “Why do you think your company has made the list for 10 years?”
Park Community Credit Union
CSI
Earning the Best Places to Work designation for a decade is due to the dedicated and passionate staff of Park Community Credit Union. Our staff is committed to investing, evaluating, and contributing to an evolving company culture. “The success of our employees is at our core,” said Park Community President and CEO Jim Spradlin. “We recognize that a great culture is a long-term intentional effort that we are committed to building upon.” Through company growth, division expansions, and most recently prolonged shutdowns that left employees feeling isolated and overwhelmed, Park employees continue to thrive by embracing change. When our employees thrive, our members thrive and this determines our success. The strength of each member of our team has always and will continue to power the company’s success.
It is an honor to be recognized on the Kentucky list of BPTW for the tenth consecutive year. CSI was founded in Kentucky 57 years ago with corporate headquarters still located in Paducah. CSI continues to remain true to its core values of faith, family and community. Our founder’s belief of being employee centric, providing life/work balance, excellent benefits, as well as rewarding careers, has helped to create the unique culture at CSI. By treating not only our customers but also our employees, with dignity and respect and allowing them to come to work as their authentic selves, CSI has been able to sustain this achievement over the last decade.
Farm Credit Mid-America
Our Association is truly committed to our purpose to secure the future of rural communities and agriculture. Team members not only believe in this purpose but also work to fulfill it every day by putting our customers— both internal and external—at the heart of all that we do. We believe that our success is rooted in family and relationships. Because of this, we value the importance of a work-life balance that allows our team members to invest in these vital relationships. Beyond offering excellent benefits and opportunities for professional and personal development, we promote a culture of learning from the top to the bottom. We encourage our people to share feedback with their leaders and each other to foster collaboration that drives our success.
People Plus, Inc
It is always such an honor to win this award. Now we have crossed the 10-year mark! Wow! There are many things that have contributed over the years, but we believe the number one is we operate our business by focusing on those things we can control. The number one thing we can control is how we treat and care for our team. Our people know we care about them and their family, our people know we like to have fun, our people know we hear them, and they know we want to provide the best staffing services to candidates and clients in Kentucky. Work is easy when you love what you do!
Jack Henry & Associates
Jack Henry & Associates, company’s philosophy is: “Do the Right Thing, Do Whatever It Takes, and Have Fun,” and it permeates throughout the organization. Every company “says” the employees come first and that is why our Associates keep ranking us a Best Place to Work in Kentucky for the past 10 years.
Total Quality Logistics

The Great Retention Play: Reducing Attrition Through Mental Wellbeing
F
or perhaps the first time, “burnout” has entered the cultural zeitgeist and it appears to have some sticking power. The rise of burnout is not simply an increase in the number of employees leaving their jobs (though certainly, that is part of it) but it is also a rise in our cultural ability to finally speak with some vulnerability and openness about mental health and wellbeing. We have been burning out our employees for much longer than we have had the terminology or self-awareness to identify it.
work quality, leading workers to require more time to get their work done — culture puts more pressure and stress on them. And the loop continues, reaching critical mass until employees either burn out, fall into ill health, move on or all of the above. On all fronts, unmanaged workplace stress costs us employee happiness as well as time and money. So much of what we think is a fact about work and stress is just a default mode we’ve gotten used to. The world is evolving. The way we work is evolving. We were handed a workplace culture that glorifies production at the expense of mental health, but we can choose something different. Through our work with companies as large as LinkedIn and as small as local yoga studios, Triluna has identified five areas that must be addressed to prevent burnout and reduce stress:
At TRILUNA we work to help organizations keep their employees connected, engaged, and well. So, when Arianna Huffington wrote on LinkedIn, “What do you think companies can do to help their people be more connected and engaged?” we had some thoughts. Her post quipped about how the “The Great Resignation” is actually a reevaluation of workplace culture. “What people are resigning from is a culture of burnout and a broken definition of success. In quitting their job, people are affirming their longing for a different way of working and living,” she writes. We agree.
1. Divest from hustle culture: Culture happens from the top down. We must ask ourselves, “in what ways are we encouraging unhealthy habits at the expense of the mental health of our team?” Anonymously survey teams and leadership to ask them what they need and where they feel they need support.
When left unmanaged, stress creates a vicious cycle. It leads to less effective time management and decreased 10
2. Encourage deep self-care: Our idea of wellness has to evolve to truly care for our people. Wellness is not the same thing as fitness. Stress management, mental health care, and honoring on and off time will do more for your people than pushups and fitness challenges ever will.
When creating productive teams, we follow five rules: , • Set actionable goals and record them • Use frameworks for structure • Zone your time for focus • Delegate where you can • Understand your rhythms
3. Commit to your community: Community plays a huge role in employee wellbeing. To build community there must be communication, transparency and vulnerability. Additionally, for that community to have a real impact it must also be inclusive. There must be a genuine interest in understanding the lived experiences of co-workers, employees and friends and a space for people to show up authentically.
We can work hard but with boundaries. We can engage with our passion but use productivity frameworks to get better work in less time. We can work to live without living to work. We can “never give up” by learning to pivot and allowing our goals and mission to evolve with us and our desires. We can flex into business times by resting deeply when you have downtime. All these things together will move us toward a new vision for the future of work that redefines what it means to be successful for both employer and employee.
4. Support personal growth: A happy or even stressfree workplace would still not be enough for our people. They need purpose, freedom and direction. A workplace that encourages personal and professional development will inspire more than productivity. It tells employees and teams that we care about their progress and we are invested in it.
Article Link: https://www.trilunawellness.com/ triluna-blog/2022/3/7/the-great-reprioritization-reduce-stress-nurture-talent-and-boost-retention
5. Redefine and offer opportunities to structure productivity: Having time and having capacity are not the same thing. Often productivity is cyclical. When outside stressors are high it is unrealistic to expect that productivity levels will remain the same. We can encourage better work in less time by allowing employees freedom around where and how they work while clearly communicating expectations and offering support.
TRILUNA is a stress management company dedicated to reducing burnout and increasing conversation around mental health. Co-Founders Elizabeth and Ashley each left their careers burned out and seeking a better way. Through their individual journeys they each came to the conclusion that in order for work to work it would need an overhaul. After health coaching and yoga certifications, self-study, and three years of running workshops for companies as large as LinkedIn and as small as local yoga studios they’ve developed a program that helps organizations keep their teams productive, connected, and well. Today, they’re proud to say that TRILUNA is a local leader in helping individuals and organizations rethink their approach to stress and burnout and you’ll often find them leading workshops, hosting festivals, speaking at conferences, and executing panels on everything from purpose and productivity to self-care for better mental health.

Managing Job Descriptions Contributed by Salary.com
I
ads, increase the diversity of applicants, and target the right candidates, both internally and externally.
f your organization is like most, you have an abundance of job descriptions in lots of places used by various people for different purposes.
Compensation Strategy: using the same words to describe the same work, skills, and requirements makes it easy to compare jobs and responsibilities and to set the total compensation package and stay competitive in the market.
There are job descriptions of duties and responsibilities for compensation strategy, performance assessment, and succession planning, job descriptions of physical requirements for workers’ compensation, and job descriptions used for job postings to attract new people. While there may be some overlap, the information is often not consistent in the terminology used or what aspects of the job are included.
Compliance: having consistent job descriptions allows pay equity analysis so you know where there are issues and can address them to avoid gender pay gaps or other discrimination claims related to pay. Having all the information in one place also allows easy categorization for workers’ compensation and state and federal EEO reporting.
Then there’s the problem of who can find and access job descriptions because they’re stored in different places, which aren’t always shared and accessible to the people who should be using them.
Data Maintenance and Governance: Having job description information in one place allows you to keep descriptions up to date and change things more easily. It also allows you to have control over who can access or change information, so things stay consistent.
And that’s before you try to keep all that information up to date, which rarely happens because it’s so time consuming and chaotic.
Why Managing Job Descriptions Matters
Best Practices for Managing Job Descriptions and Postings
Having consistent, comprehensive, and up to date job descriptions makes many things easier and offers important information for:
Deciding to manage your job descriptions and postings can feel overwhelming. But there are great tools to help you get it right. Once you’ve done the initial work, it can save you time and resources going forward.
Recruiting: easy to find job descriptions for job posts can reduce time to fill, reduce bias in the wording of job 12
Here are some of the best ways to get a handle on job descriptions and stay on top of changes. • Get the language right. Look at how knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) are described in your current job descriptions. Then decide whether you need to make any adjustments. Are the words dated or do they no longer apply? Are there more accurate descriptions that make sense? Once you decide on how to describe something, use that language consistently. • Get the complete information. Job descriptions should include the essential job responsibilities, tasks, and duties as well as physical requirements and qualifications. Assess each of the parts of the job description to make sure they are accurate, complete, and match the language you are using. For job postings, consider whether to include information on employee benefits and compensation. • Make sure KSA’s apply to the specific job. It’s easy to copy and paste from older job descriptions. But you don’t want to include requirements that will exclude people who would be great for the role. And you want to make sure that every part of the job description accurately reflects the work and position in the organization. • Use Templates. Once you have decided on the right language and requirements, create or find a template that can be used for all job descriptions so that you make sure you get all the information you need and want for each job. • Create a Job Description Library. Decide where job descriptions will live on your organization’s system or the cloud so that everyone who needs to use it can easily access the information and everything lives in one place. Consider how you want your job description library organized and tagged so it’s easy to find and use the job descriptions and create new ones. • Use Job Description Management Software. There are software tools that can help you do some or all of these best practices. Salary.com’s JobArchitect can help you easily design, build, and standardize your job descriptions. There is an extensive library of templates and tools to help you get started and keep things up to date. It integrates with Salary.com’s CompAnalyst to price jobs and stay on top of the market and compliance issues. How to Effectively Use
Branded Merchandise to Company Culture By Sarah Whitaker
W
e now live in an expressive economy. People used to buy with their brains; now they buy with their hearts. The same is true for employment decisions, replacing “where must I work?” is “where do I want to work?”. Employees are seeking companies to work for whose values align with theirs - just as consumers are doing with their purchasing decisions, which is why the importance of well communicated and well celebrated corporate values is paramount. Humans are driven by feelings. If you want your product or brand to be remembered, people must be engaged and impassioned by the interaction with your company.* The best companies are the ones that immerse their employees in their culture at every step of the way, considering branded merchandise first. When used intentionally, branded merchandise can be quite powerful. A strategic approach to your use of branded merchandise is important, or you risk losing your return on the investment. As more interaction is digital, that tangible branded merchandise is even more impactful in building connections. Use the following branded merchandise experience examples as inspiration within your own company to engage with your team and celebrate your company culture.
box arriving to their home days after an offer letter is signed. However you do it, it should make an impact, and should immediately communicate your company values. Your investment here shows in a very direct way how excited you are for this employee to join your company, and how much you value them. Outfit them with branded apparel so they can show their company pride, or give them tools to help them in their new job. Select branded merchandise items that convey your company culture and values on Day One. Do you value sustainability? The branded merchandise you gift should all be sustainably made. Is giving back part of your culture? The selection of branded merchandise items should all have a giveback component to their purchase.
The Day One Experience Create a Day One Experience, as we like to call it. There’s no better welcome to the team than to have a carefully curated branded merchandise experience waiting for your new employee - and we do mean experience. That experience might be a desk full of branded merchandise welcoming them, or a branded 26
Team Building & Traditions Consumers enjoy getting a gift with purchase. Fun fact: branded merchandise is the only advertising consumers say thank you for, and 83% of consumers are more likely to do business with an advertiser after receiving a promotional product.** Employees are no different. We recently worked with a Best Places to Work award-winning company on the launch of their new employee intranet. To get the team excited, they gifted branded merchandise and combined it with an online store to gift even more company merch. Using intentionally selected branded merchandise to commemorate traditions further immerses employees in your culture.
Celebrating the Individual When a company celebrates achievement alongside their employees, it brings a sense of teamwork to everyone involved. Whether it’s an anniversary, a big win for the company, or simply a thank you, branded merchandise can go a long way in creating a memorable experience. We recently helped a company say “thank you” to their employees by creating an online company store full of branded merchandise. Employees received communication explaining they were receiving fun company swag, but the best part? The employees themselves selected what style merchandise they wanted based on personal preference. Employees value flexibility and personalization, and when your merchandise choices align with your values, employees are able to celebrate alongside your win, and giving them that flexibility and choice is an even bigger win.
Branded merchandise can be a powerful culture building medium just as much as it can be a consumer marketing tool, when used intentionally. The companies that win over employees (and customers), turning them in to brand enthusiasts, consider branded merchandise as an important tool and construct a strategy around its use. They know impressions and reach are key, and they realize we’re experiencing a market shift in brand engagement. * https://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/the-subconscious-mind-of-theconsumer-and-how-to-reach-it ** https://thebrandedthings.com/42-stats-you-need-to-know-
Reflecting Your Values
about-promo-products/
When your branded merchandise has meaning, it will connect both physically and emotionally. We recently worked with a client who was searching for a meaningful gift for their employees and customers. Their mission is to help their customers grow. The perfect complement to that mission? Branded merchandise that is a tool to help do just that. We produced a Rocketbook, a tech/eco-friendly gift, but with a twist. Inside the branded tech notebook was a weekly outlook, monthly planning space, and best of all, motivational space and a goal setting area. The branded merchandise choice aligned so well with their mission, there was no better gift they could give to help employees and clients plan for a great year.

CREATING FAIR CHANCE
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
E
mployers may be familiar with terms such as fair chance or second chance employment, which aim to ensure that individuals in recovery, impacted by substance use, or with justice involvement have a fair chance to work. There’s a picture I’ve seen a number of times that I always come back to when someone asks me what it means to be fair. The picture is of a fence, which is used as a metaphor to show the difference between equality and equity. Three children are standing behind a fence, and the first panel shows each having received the same size box to stand on so it is easier for them to see. Unfortunately, one child still cannot see over the fence. In the second panel, the children are given a variety of items to stand on. This gives them each a fair
and equitable chance to see over the fence. The Kentucky Chamber Foundation offers employer-led programs focused on helping businesses provide fair chance employment opportunities to individuals in recovery and with justice involvement. One of the most recent programs the Chamber Foundation launched is the Kentucky Transformational Employment Program (KTEP). This new initiative helps Kentucky employers find and retain the workforce they need to support and grow their businesses while giving more of our community members a better chance at long-term recovery from substance use. The program aims to guarantee more than just a chance, but the opportunity to transform an employee’s life and employer’s work-
force by supporting and connecting employees impacted by substance use with meaningful employment. Recovering from a substance use disorder includes more than just traditional healthcare treatment. There are many other services and resources that Kentuckians need to reach and sustain long-term recovery, one of which is stable employment. Employers that choose to participate in KTEP have the opportunity to offer transformational employment to both employees and job candidates impacted by substance use—something that will help them to live healthier, more productive lives while also strengthening our state’s economy. KTEP prioritizes workplace safety and provides essential liability protection for employers. Under Kentucky law (KRS 222.215), employers who participate are not liable for civil action alleging negligent hiring, negligent retention, or negligent acts by the employee because of an employee’s substance use disorder. As of April, fifty-five Kentucky businesses have signed up for KTEP which impacts more than 11,600 Kentucky employees. In March 2020, the Kentucky Chamber Foundation’s Workforce Center launched the “Who’s Hiring”
28
campaign to help highlight the many open positions in all areas of the state during the pandemic. We would never have imagined that this campaign would have resulted in 55,000 webpage visits and over 20,000 fair chance jobs posted by employers. Given this momentum, The Foundation’s Workforce Center launched Kentucky Talent Hub in October 2021 to create a more dynamic experience for employers, job seekers, and workforce development professionals. There are over 1,000 active users on Kentucky Talent Hub, with almost 10,000 fair chance job opportunities recruited statewide.
The Kentucky Chamber Foundation will continue its efforts to help more Kentuckians find stable, meaningful employment—and we hope you will join us! We continue to develop business-led programs that help create the robust workforce our state needs to be competitive. We encourage every Kentucky business to post their open positions on Kentucky Talent Hub and sign up to participate in the Kentucky Transformational Employment Program to help expand their talent pools. Understanding the Working Parent By Cassie Collins
Y
requires an unrivaled level of organization, communication, time management and the ability to wear many, many hats at once! So how does an organization keep parents engaged and motivated? It all comes down to creating a culture of communication!
ou would be hard pressed to find a company out there, big or small, that doesn’t have at least one parent on their employee roster. Raising children while participating in today’s workforce is now common for both men and women. Whether it be because families need a double income to provide for their household, because women are now playing such a large role in the workforce, or a combination of both, there are many households where Mom and/or Dad work during the day. In fact, in 63% of two-parent households, both parents work after having children. And in one parent households, 89% of parents still work (Agovino, 2021). So, the idea of a working parent doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon.
Consistent communication goes a long way, so be clear in conveying your expectations. Set clear expectations for performance, production, and delivery. It may seem counterintuitive, but doing this reduces the stress felt by already overburdened parents. Furthermore, promote two-way, open communication so that your employees feel comfortable coming to you with conflicts and possible suggestions on solving those conflicts. More often than not, if one parent is having hard time managing work and home life, other employees feel that same way. So, if someone takes the time to bring an issue to your attention… listen! It doesn’t mean that because they’re having childcare issues for the week that they need to be given a paid week off from work, but it does
But this shouldn’t scare companies! It’s true - parents often require a different set of working conditions and flexibility, but they also bring a valuable set of skills to the table! Being a parent 42
mean that they may require a more flexible schedule to finish their work after normal business hours. Having empathy for someone’s situation doesn’t mean that you as a manager need to solve the problem for them, but being a good manager does mean giving your employees the space and opportunity to figure out how to get the job done efficiently, and often times creatively. After setting and implementing clear expectations, check in with your working parents from time to time! Solicit feedback and ask how managing their workload is going. Giving people the opportunity to express what is working and what is not allows individuals to feel like they have a say in their day-to-day, and more importantly it creates a culture where people care. When people care about others and feel that they are cared for, they are more likely to perform at a higher level. It is so easy to get wrapped up in our “to do” list, that we can forget to implement the soft skill of empathy and communication, but they differentiate a “good place to work” from a *best* place to work. So be intentional! If you are someone who knows that those soft touches can get pushed aside because of your do to list, put it on your to do list! It’s as easy as creating a task for yourself once a month, or even every other, to check in on that new mom, or the dad with 3 boys playing 3 different spring sports. I promise – it will go a long way in keeping staff happy and production high!

Employee Engagement and Positive Leadership By Ryan W. Quinn Academic Director, Project on Positive Leadership, University of Louisville
R
esearch shows that job engagement in the workplace has a reliably positive impact on individual and organizational performance. Job engagement is the experience of investing oneself fully into one’s work, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Many of the organizations on this list of Best Places to Work for in Kentucky have highly engaged employees. Even so, these organizations are the exception rather than the rule. Many organizations are struggling to retain employees, let alone get them to be fully engaged. The Gallup organization regularly tracks workforce engagement around the country. As the pandemic raged on, employee engagement in the United State plateaued. By the middle of 2021, only 36% of U.S. employees said that they were engaged at work, and 15% said that they were actively disengaged. Stranger still, we know what factors influence employee engagement (see Table 1) . If we know what it takes to win employees’ engagement, why are
so many organizations failing to implement them? There are undoubtedly many reasons why organizations fail to implement practices, policies, and procedures that would help them employees become more engaged. For example, legacy structures and systems may be hard to change, managers may lack time or money,
or managers may need training and development to be able to implement these factors in their work units. Even so, a determined manager can work around or work with legacy systems or structures, re-prioritize activities to make time, and re-allocate spending (or find creative ways to do many of these practices without money). In our experience, the implementation of factors such as these requires leadership. At the University of Louisville’s Project on Positive Leadership, when we use the word leadership, we are not referring to the position that people hold in an organization. Rather, we are referring to abilities such as:
TABLE 1

throughout them. However, the relatively low percentage of organizations with high employee engagement suggests that most organizations would benefit from helping their employees develop and exhibit leadership more regularly and consistently. For those who are interested in practicing these skills, the Project
Sometimes people in formal management positions have these abilities and use them often; other times people in formal management positions use them rarely. THE DIFFERENTIATOR If there were a perfect formula to creating a Best Place to Work, then we would all be following it.
However, there isn’t, so instead, we continue to measure, survey, and discover what makes a company the best place to work. As part of that process, we can uncover significant findings that can help companies differentiate themselves by establishing practices/policies that resonate with employees. Below we have highlighted 10 specific survey questions that had the largest percentage gap of positive responses from winning companies vs. non-winning companies. % of winning companies respondents who agreed

People-Focused, Business-Led Programs
We’ve got you covered. With Sana’s HealthSmart PPO Plus, you’re always in-network. At Sana, we don’t restrict our members based on a provider network. We consider all healthcare provider “in-network” and never charge out-of-network fees.
Our HealthSmart PPO Plus network is one of the largest private PPOs in the country, with over 1.2 million access points. If you use a provider that’s not already in our network, Sana will work with the provider to join our network or work out a payment agreement. Either way, there’s no extra cost or restrictions on using your provider. Sana provides in-network access to all hospitals. We don’t pre-negotiate rates with a narrow group of in-network hospitals. We allow you to choose your hospital and then work behind the scenes on your behalf to negotiate a fair payment for your treatment. This gives you the best of both worlds — more choice and lower costs.
