2014 Best Places to Work in Kentucky - Special Section

HOW WE GOT HERE: 10 years of making the list What do a medical center, two accounting firms, an orthopedic rehab company and two law firms have in common? They are all 10-year winners of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky program. These six companies agree that making the list each year is an honor, but there is something even more special about the 2014 program. It marks not only the 10th anniversary of the program, but it also means these companies have won every year since the program began. A lot has changed in ten years, but these six companies have adapted to the economic changes while validating their commitment to workplace excellence.

What does workplace excellence look like? The answer to that question is complicated and differs by numerous variables—from each individual employee, to the industry, to the company culture. However, there are some basic benefits that our employer survey identified as consistent with our 10-year winners: offering a wellness program, a choice of health care plans, the opportunity to invest in a retirement savings program and tying performance to compensation. Although this is just a piece of the puzzle, we are excited to see the trends that emerge over the next 10 years and hope that we will continue to honor the best of the best in Kentucky!

We pile into a party bus and ride to Lexington in April to celebrate being recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky!

One year our win coincided with one of our Conferences where 150 of our clients were in attendance. At our Conference banquet we celebrated with both employees and clients.

One year we announced our win by having a DJ set up in the parking lot and then calling everyone outside for a practice “fire drill.” As everyone came out music was playing and the owner of the company took his microphone onto an impromptu stage at the back of a truck to make the announcement as we unrolled a banner. – Creative Lodging Solutions

We have an annual 2nd quarter Employee Appreciation event and last year we added incentive money to the budget as thank you to the employees for winning BPTW. – Fellon-McCord
