panhellenic recruitment recommendations A GUIDE FOR FORMAL RECRUITMENT RECOMMENDATION LETTERS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA
RECOMMENDATION LETTER BASICS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FORMAL OR INFORMAL RECRUITMENT
The term, "recommendation letter" is a generic way of referring to the support documentation a woman interested in joining a sorority will have completed on her behalf. Recommendation letters are completed by sororoity alumnae members on behalf of a potential new member (PNM). Each inter/national organization has a specific form on which the recommendation is to be completed. These forms can be found on the local and/or national websites of each National Panhellenic Conference organization. Most organizations have a form called a RIF (Recruitment Information Form). This is the form to be used by alumnae when providing a recommendation for a potential new member.
At the University of Oklahoma, we follow NPC policy - meaning, if a recommendation letter is required organization to offer membership, it is the responsibility of that organization to seek that recommendation letter. PNMs can choose to collect their own recommendation letters. Many PNMs find this brings them peace of mind during the process, knowing they have recommendation letters for organizations on campus. Recommendation letters are, in no way, required to go through the formal or informal recruitment process at the University of Oklahoma. Should you wish to obtain letters of recommendation for the recruitment process, we suggest no more than one - two per Panhellenic chapter at the University of Oklahoma. NOMADIC

RECOMMENDATION LETTER
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE #1
Ask women that you know attended college if they are sorority members. You might be surprised to find that teachers, counselors, family friends, neighbors, or employers are sorority alumnae and would be happy to write a recommendation letter for you!

#2
Do not panic if you cannot find an alumna from each of the 11 organizations at OU. Many women who participate in recruitment join chapters regardless of having recommendation letters or not. If a recommendation is required, the organization is responsible for obtaining it.
#5
Follow up with a thank you note. Be sure to thank the women who spent the time to complete a recommendation letter on your behalf. A well-timed note served as a reminder for your recommender to send the recommendation letter.
#3
Provide your recommenders with a resume, photos, and transcript. The alumna completing the recommendation will want to include as much personalized information as possible in order to introduce you to her organization. She can include the above items as attachments to her recommendation letter.
#6
Register for recruitment with the Panhellenic Association. You can register at www.pan.ou.edu.
Recommendation letters can be sent directly to the chapter houses. Their addresses can be found at www.pan.ou.edu. You can also have them sent to our office: Panhellenic Association Attn: [enter sorority name] 900 Asp Avenue, Suite 370 Norman, OK 73019
There is not a specific due date for recommendation letters however, we suggest having them in by August 1 to allow the chapters ample time to receive and review the information.
