The City continues to rank among the best in the nation and our Fire and Police Departments are no exception. They have continued to be recognized for their positive interaction with the community, innovation and professionalism. When faced with an emergency, the goal is always to get help there as quickly as possible.

In 2023, the City of Johns Creek was named one of the Safest Cities in Georgia (Safewise.com) and one of the Safest in the US (MoneyGeek.com), thanks in large part to the Johns Creek Police Department (JCPD) delivering a high level of quality service to more than 85,000 residents and nearly 2,300 businesses in Georgia’s 10th largest city.

In June 2023, the Council approved the purchase of property for the construction and replacement of Fire Station #63. In May, the Fire Department added an Air and Light Unit. The custom-built vehicle is equipped with a compressor for filling self-contained breathing apparatus (commonly referred to as an air pack), which each firefighter wears while fighting a fire. The new vehicle holds specialized flood lights to illuminate an incident scene and it can also be set up as a mobile rehabilitation unit for longterm public safety incidents.

This state-of-the-art unit is another innovative way the City continues to support health, wellness, and safety both in the community and for our public safety personnel.

JCPD continues to provide community policing services and programs, including the popular Woman and Teen Self Defense classes, PACT neighborhood watch and SHIELD business watch, and radKIDS, which teaches self defense techniques.

Child Care Safety Seat Installation: Several Johns Creek firefighters are certified in educating parents about the proper way to install a child car safety seat, and are available by appointment.

Citizens Auxillary Police Services

The Citizen Auxiliary Police Services (CAPS) assists police in handling many necessary duties that don’t require a law enforcement officer, such as directing traffic, patrolling parks, conducting residential and business checks, helping manage administrative work, and working community events. Candidates must be graduates of Citizens Police Academy, pass a background check, interview and take 20 hours of specialized training.

Citizens Fire Academy An eightweek course that allows members to participate in practical drills, fire extinguisher training, and learn about fire prevention, rescue and communication. Open to all Johns Creek adult residents who successfully pass a criminal history check. Class size limited.

Citizens Police Academy Nine-week course that offers an up-close look into the JCPD’s operations and policies. Weekly class includes instruction (investigations, narcotics), demonstrations (K-9, SWAT), and practical exercises (traffic enforcement). Open to all Johns Creek residents (21+yrs.) who successfully pass a criminal history check. Class limited to 25.

Community Safety Day – The Johns Creek Police and Fire departments jointly sponsor Community Safety Day each year. The departments perform a variety of safety demonstrations. No cost. For more information, email Debra.Kalish@JohnsCreekGA.gov

Heart Ready – Lifesaving training (American Heart Association’s noncertification program) in proper use of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillator). No cost. Open to all Johns Creek residents/ business owners.
