Cricket In Johns Creek

The sport of Cricket is gaining tremendous popularity in Johns Creek and meeting the demands of our diverse population. Thanks to the work of the Johns Creek Cricket Association (JCCricket), we now have the first of its kind Cricket Batting Cages, Cricket Pitches and Electronic Cricket Scoreboard at Shakerag Park.

The southern border of Johns Creek is the Chattahoochee River, and this river can be accessed via the Jones Bridge Unit off of Barnwell Road in Johns Creek. With 5,000 trout per mile of the river, it offers some of the best trout water in the South. Be sure to call 770-945-1466 to find out about water releases from Buford Dam before fishing or swimming in the Chattahoochee River.

Ping Pong, Fencing, Squash, Karate, Pickleball...

Johns Creek has a myriad of sports for all types of sports fanatics. If fencing is your game, Johns Creek is home to training facilities of some of the best fencing in the state of Georgia. Also, internationally-ranked table tennis training is available. With over 41 pickleball leagues and squash tournaments, there is sure to be a sport for you!

JCCricket’s goal of making Johns Creek a destination city for Cricket in the Southeast USA is underway. JCCricket’s Youth Program has over 125 athletes from ages 4 to 15. The Georgia High School Cricket, administered by JCCricket, has eight high schools participating, including Northview and Johns Creek. Johns Creek Panthers, Women’s Cricket, is also attracting many talented athletes.

The inaugural Johns Creek Cricket Festival will be held in October at Shakerag Park. The festival will be an opportunity to celebrate the second biggest sport in the world with Cricket matches, food and music.

Drugs Don’t Work in Georgia

Why Establish a Drug-free Workplace Program? For the Safety of Your Business AND Employees!

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, “Smaller businesses are less likely to have programs in place to combat the problem, yet they are more likely to be the employer-ofchoice for illicit drug users.”

· 90 percent small and medium-sized businesses employ heavy drinkers or illicit drug users, and 75 percent of illicit drug users were primarily employed by small businesses.

· The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has reported that 77 percent of illegal drug users hold either fulltime or part-time jobs. Substance abuse costs American businesses approximately 81 billion dollars annually in lost productivity, accidents, and approximately 500 million annual workdays.

Potential Savings in Cost and Liabilities. You can receive a 7.5% discount on Your Workers’ Comp insurance!

· Small businesses expose themselves to the higher costs of health insurance, workers’ compensation claims, and any lawsuits that may arise from employee negligence because of drug use. This holds all the truer if the work that is being done is considered high risk or dangerous.

· U.S. Department of Labor studies show that workers who abuse drugs and alcohol are more likely to skip work. When they are on the job, they are one-third less productive, costing employers approximately $7,000 a year.

· Employees using drugs are also more likely to cause workplace accidents or file workers’ compensation claims.

· Higher employee turnover.

Creating a substance abuse policy goes beyond merely avoiding hiring the wrong people. It also helps hold on to quality workers who have suffered a momentary lapse by directing them to appropriate sources of treatment and giving them the hope that they can eventually return to work.
