Dematerializing the City -Thesis Project
The project is a local cultural center located in Gulou area in the old city center of Beijing, China. This urban intervention establishes a series of harmonious relationships between the city and the architecture, between the urban and the autonomous and between the old and the new . The pattern of the city’s fabric, the local traditions, and the basic ways of life serve to guide the spatial organization and the development of architectural elements. The building is dematerialized. Paintings and diagrams are abstracted from the physical reality of the building. Drawings and models are made to further present the spatial orders and conditions. The containment of the architecure has always drawn as much attention from me as on the building itself. This thesis is more about searching for the intangible contained by physical elements.
The repetition of light and building elements creates an order of the space. The cells underground are connected to the adjacent cells through free openings. Therefore each cell is relatively enclosed yet allows free movement through the cell and between the cells.
Xuejiawan culture center location: Zhungeer district,Erdos -Internship Project total floor area: 57467m² site area: 28732m² max height: 28.35m properties: culture situation: Constuction Phase
This New Culture Center consists of extremely complicated functions, where emphasizing the “surplus space” is indispensable. In order to emphasize “surplus space” in this large cultural facility of about 60,000 square meters, the center of the building is completely open. Maintaining the original landscape, there are grand stairs in the center open area to form an amphitheater. When the impacts of all functions gather together, the “surplus space” becomes the core space of the architecture.

Sculpture Base Desige -Studio Project
The sculpture was made by the great architect and artist, Olivio Ferrari. Proportion and composition claimed the main character of this delicate art piece. The base does not only serve as a holder for the sculpture, but also enhanced its qualities. The viewer is encouraged to observe the art piece from a more comprehensive perspective.
