The Menswear collections for Fall 2015 have been showing a similar androgynous trend in clothing. Brands such as Giorgio Armani, Prada and Givenchy have combined their runways with men and women for Pre-Fall/Fall collections. Giorgio Armani sent out men and women wearing the same garments during the menswear runway to show that women can wear the clothes as well. Tunics, jackets and sweaters were a mix of clothing that can be worn for both men and women. This trend is following with social trends and pop culture for gender equality in the workforce and equal rights in foreign nations. This garments transition from men to their girlfriends and are a popular trend for the Fall 2015 season.

Stripes are a reoccurring trend on the runway for Spring collections. Altuzarra, Balmain and Kaelen created pieces with stripes going in many directions. It’s a new take on vertical and horizontal stripes, adding intersecting lines and playing with the mixing of directions is a fun take on wearing stripes. Oliver Rousteing created bold stripes for Spring 2015 using primary colors and different widths for each stripe. Pairing a vertical striped skirt with a horizontal striped top keeps the eye busy, creating direction and movement in each garment.

COUT URE GALORE The French do avant-garde once more! Spring Couture runways displayed detailed and elaborated pieces decorated with sequences and silk flowers. From Gaultier to Margiela and Chanel to Dior, designers adorned each piece and created dimensional works of art. John Galliano showcased his first collection for Margiela since being fired from Dior in 2011. Galliano created deconstructed garments and Viktor & Rolf made voluminous floral dresses.

Geometric prints are the future for fashion. Repetition of shapes and design create an illusion of form. Dior combined shapes and stripes for a complete geometric look and Celine used bright, bold colors to contrast each shapes and created more shapes using cutouts. Alexander Wang used bold neons on top of blacks to heighten the shapes he created. Geometric shapes are used not only in womens collections but menswear as well. Christopher Kane is known for creating bold shapes and he uses 3D box shapes in his recent menswear Fall 2015 collection. Opening Ceremony uses simplistic shapes and colors to create a relaxed, neutral look for menswear.

WOODSTOCK Peace, love and suede! The seventies are back with a swing of fringe. Designers displayed collections for fall/winter with a nod to the past. Burberry’s runway included fringe accessories, ponchos, circular sunglasses and tall suede boots. Emilio Pucci touched on the designer’s highlights from the seventies with fringe, vibrant prints and polished white blouses. Natural hair, showcasing waves and curls are representing this seventies trend. The brand Philosophy also included ponchos and blouses with a touch of suede in color blocks and prints. The seventies are coming back for a fall trend this season.

rebellious youth Punk is back in a new way. Studs, leather and attitude are key players in this trend. Heavy metal hardware on accessories and coats are details that brands like Alexander Wang, Coach and Saint Laurent are showcasing in their fall/winter collections. Chunky boots paired with dark plaids are a nod to the 90’s with a rebellious twist. Deconstructed knits, thick coats and dark red lips convey the punk trend to an updated structured tailored look with a feminine flare. Saint Laurent took on a modern version of old school rockers with tight pants and slim jackets. Alexander Wang’s collection was a dark take on the 90’s with plaids and studs and a creepy do of wet hair. The 90’s rebels are back this season and “badder” than ever.

ivy league Heading back to school in the fall never looked so smart. Pops of white collars and polished oxfords are a hot trend for fall. Fur detail on coats look luxe and chic paired with structured leather handbags. Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger were key designers leading this trend for the fall season. Mixes of fur details and rich brown with maroon tones are the ultimate fall color. Michael Kors featured structured coats and oxford shoes with chunky knits and cropped bottoms. Tommy Hilfiger used a football field as runway inspiration with lots of garments as jerseys with football lace-up shoes. Oversized jackets which huge collars and big buckles create an old-school vibe that is always a fun trend for fall and going back to school this season.

native tribes Tribal prints are a hot trend on the runway for fall/winter 2015. Tapestry-like prints appeared from Givenchy and Tory Burch on the runway in different directions. Designers created long silhouettes with coats, dresses and tunics to mimic a scale of a tapestry. Tall boots are also a key element in this trend that represents a native vibe. Tory Burch gracefully created prints for her fall/winter collection in a fashion-forward way. The use of an old tapestry for her runway show re-enforced the trend. Ricardo Tisci had a primal theme throughout his menswear fall collection. The tribal prints in tunic lengths are inspired by aboriginals of nations around the world that sends a clear message of a tribal trend for the upcoming fall season.
