PEMBANGUNAN 9 UNIT KEDIAMAN TOWN VILLA 4 TINGKAT, KUALA LUMPUR Kiara 9 is a 4 storey height townhouse project that located at a Malay reserved land (Kiara Hill, Kuala Lumpur). This project started sience the end of 2014 until now and submitted the third Building Plan (BP) submission in this coming March 2018. This project consisted a total of 9 units and it’s divided into 2 different types which is Type A and Type B. I was assigned to this project since the first day I entered this company, . My supervisor briefed to me regarding the general information about this project and I started to develop one of the section drawing that assigned by my colleague. Due to the reason that this project is falling under Building Plan (BP) submission stage to DBKL hence I required to understand that what are the requirement of DBKL submission drawing needed and what colour coding should I used before proceed to my drawing stages. Throughout the process of drawing section for BP submission drawing, I gained more information regarding the construction details and specification of the residential buildings. After completing the section drawing, I proceed to draw the elevation B, elevation C and section D-D. By drawing the elevation and section was a challenging for me due to the reason that during school time I get used to drawn for only single building and now I required to draw the whole site. I am able to finish the task given by my supervisor within the deadline and it was one of a great experience for me during my internship learning and working process. Beside than drawing, I also get the chance to experience to designing facade, spaces arrangement of multipurpose area and

| NG KWANG ZHOU | 0322802 | INTERNSHIP REPORT | ARC 2615 |

overlay with butter paper and scribble it to develop my design ideas. For the multipurpose area, I was given an empty land and I start to develop the bubble diagram to show the space arrangement with the spaces listed by my supervisor. Every time I have completed one of my progress I will show to my supervisor for further amendment. I keep repeating the progress until my design to be finalized by them. From this designing process , I fell appreciate that my supervisor trust me and let me proceed with the designing process in this internship period. Moreover, I also have a chance to participate twice Client-Consultantive Meeting ( CCM ). Through the first CCM I get able to explore how is the CCM procedure going at the same time I also get an opportunity to learnt how to produce a CCM minute by my own. According to UBBL 1984 Section 39.(1) Every room designed, adapted or used for residential, buiness or other purposes except hospitals and schools shall be provided with natural ventilation by means of one or more windows, having a total area of not less than 10% of the clear floor area of such room and shall have openings capable of allowing a free uniterrupted passsage of air of not less than 5% of such floor area.

By referring to UBBL 1984 above, I in charge in calculating the window schedule for Type B buildings. After drawing the elevations of every type of window, I did the calculation according to the floor area of every space in order to ensure it fufills the minimum of 10% natural lightiing and a minimum of 5% natural ventilation . After compiling all the drawing to the title block and printed out, we submitted all our Kebenaran Merancang ( KM ) drawing and Building Plan ( BP ) drawing to our client for his autograph.

| NG KWANG ZHOU | 0322802 | INTERNSHIP REPORT | ARC 2615 |

TAN SRI AL-BUKHARY HOUSE , KENNY HILL , KUALA LUMPUR Tan Sri Al-Bukhary House is one of the masterpiece project currently develop by GDP Architect Sdn Bhd. The residential housing area is located at Kenny Hill, which surround with idyllic greenery. The design stage of the project started in earlier of 2000. The project being develop in the design stages through sketches and invited various famous consultants from overseas to participate in the design stages and development along 7 years. The project is being designed and construct at then same time. The first sketches of this project are from the partner of GDP Architect Sdn Bhd - Tuan Syed Sobri Syed Ismail. The skecthes are developing all the time and digitally through software and presented to the client. Initially, housing design doesn’t respond to the site. Throughout the conversation from the architect we understand that one of the challenging parts of this project is the earthworks, due to the site context, there are a lot of earthworks need to be done and consider in the design stages. Once the first part of the design is completed, the estimated budget for the earthworks itself is Rm 20 million in order to make it flat so that can be eased to insert stilt and column. Besides, the design also incorporated with the tropical rainforest characteristic in Malaysia. The architect trying to make the house typical as there are a total of 4 children from the owner. The owner requested to design 4 different houses and each house design should suit the characteristic of his own children. The architect mentioned that the design of the houses is unique and different residential project due to the reason that

| NG KWANG ZHOU | 0322802 | INTERNSHIP REPORT | ARC 2615 |

the house is flexible in its design. In other words to explain is that the architects provide the client flexibility in its design, the floor plan itself allow the architect to change according to the time which this issue had also become the second challenging part in this project. In term of wall panelling and architecture facade, as we observed from the site are all the drywall, in actual the architect did used a lot of dry construction system so in the end of the project every houses have it own architecture characteristic and architecture language itself. The third challenging part of this project is dry construction system is not easy to maintain as it might be affected by moisture from weather, surrounding, air conditioning and many. The architect cantilever 2.5 meters out from the roof in order to cover up all the spaces including corridors. One of the interesting parts of this project is about the floor plan design. According to the architect, the house is specially designed for the house owner’s children, which is considered as teenagers, hence what the client wants currently might be different in their future. Hence from this point, the architect makes a consideration of leaving the floor plan in modular for as an example of the wall is made from a frame with stone cladding and timber as it can be movable to adjust the size of the spaces. In architecture, we did mention and focus on scale. The user experience between the user and space itself is important and it should be related back to each other as this is a domestic housing design unit. In the design stages, the architect tried to maintain the design in simple and minimalist way in the progress of translating architecture language to the building. As mention earlier, the architect try to blend in the building

to support the cantilever infinity pool on top at the same time it symbolizes as an artwork to stand out the building. The Y shape giant column is inspired by the Y steel column in Cheras Stadium. The architects work with the engineers to figure out and created a giant 3 stories height reinforcement concrete Y shape column in. This is the biggest challenge in this project and this will also be the first Y shape reinforcement concrete column in Malaysia architecture history. As mentioned by the architect, “In our daily life, we always cast the column in the horizontal and vertical way, why don’t we give a try to cast column in angle. This successful achievement had integrated the combination of artwork, and engineering in architecture way. As a conclusion, this site visit is the best idyllic and iconic residential building as I have ever seen in my life. From the design language to the building facade is in line with my architecture design taste. I feel proud and my pleasure to witness such a beautiful building in this internship. Although it is in superstructure stage, I believe that it will become an iconic residential buildings role model for Malaysia architecture in future.

QUALITY SUSTAINABLE PEOPLE’S HOUSING ( QSPH ) , PHASE 1B Quality Sustainable People’s Housing ( QSPH ) is a proposed redevelopment of public housing project in Taman Ikan Emas , Cheras , Kuala Lumpur. The QSPH project is designed according to affordable housing scheme. QSPH in phase 1 is divided into 3 different phases which consisted of Phase 1A , Phase 1B and Phase 1C. In Phase 1A consist a total of 722 units with total GFA : 1,261,960 sf. Phase 1B consist of 40 storey in total of 537 units with total GFA : 889,809 sf and Phase 1C consist total of 1,192 units with total GFA : 1,823,266 sf. The total GFA for phase 1 is 3,985,035 sf and total construction cost is RM 674 million. In this project I am in charge in phase 1B, which consist of 40 storey in a total of 537 units, 8 levels podium car park and 1 facilities level with M & E. The phase 1 project is estimated finish completion by 2021. The design of the redevelopment of spaces is changing from 2 rooms per unit into 3 rooms per unit. I was assigned to draw tiles for the all 40 storey unit. On the first day, the architect told me the difference between tender submission and BP submission drawing. Hence, I should refer to BP submission drawing plans and decide which areas should belong to which type of tiles. In the drawing tiles process, I try to plan and estimate in order way in order to reduce the wastage to cut tile as much as possible in the tender drawing. After finishing located the tiles, I required to calculate the floor area from wall to wall according to the type of tiles. Once it’s done, I required to study the specification of the tile type according to its specification for example it finishes and its type of skirting. Lastly, I required to gather all the information that I did and plot into legend according to tender drawing submission format from DBKL.

CONCLUSION First and foremost, it was a wonderful internship journey for me in GDP Architects Sdn Bhd during this 7 weeks. For me, it was my honor and pleasure to be given a chance to work in the largest architecture company for my internship. I started my internship on 2nd Jan 2018. I was assigned to team 6 and in charge of BP drawing on the first day. The first project that I handled was residential townhouse building in Kiara Hill, Kuala Lumpur. This is my pleasure to handle such a luxury townhouse building as well as also the first time handling a proper BUILDING PLAN (BP) submission project in my architecture career. Throughout this project, I enjoyed learning from the experience architect that how to design a facade. In GDP, average one architect will handle 4-5 project at once, hence I also get the chance to stay overnight with my colleagues sometimes to experience how they stay efficient under the stress. In Client-Consultant Meeting (CCM) meetings, I tried to take down the minutes as efficient as I can and convert it into a proper CCM minutes. Moreover, I feel glad and happy that the architect trust in me and giving me a chance to design the whole multipurpose area. From studying existing context to sketching out the spaces in bubble diagram, every design I had to show to the architect and director for further amend, I did in total around 8 to 10 different designs and it had been finalized and submitted to DBKL for BP submission stage. This is the first time ever in my life to get a chance to design and convert in real life in future. The second project that I went through is Tan Sri Al-Bukhary House in Kennny Hill. As we know that the client is one of the 10 richest men in Malaysia, hence it is my pleasure to have a chance to witness the masterpieces of architectural design is done by the top company in Malaysia. Although the site visit session was short but it was the most meaningfull site visit that

I had ever been. By going there I had an opportunity to learn and witness the combination of architectural and engineering masterpieces that I had never seen before as a residential form in Malaysia. Besides, the architect that in charge on site also works as a senior lecturer in UITM. From the conversation with the architect, I had learned some concept on how to design a unique and outstanding building. The greatest rewards from the conversation is I had the chance to know that GDP itself has its own architectural design style, he keeps emphasizing that as an architect we should not copy or repeat the same element in every of our design, we should always design new things in every next project and never copy and paste and modify from previous design that we did. The last project that I did was Quality Sustainable People’s Housing (QSPH). From design development to the contract documentation stage, I am able to learn the differences between these two stages. In tender stage, everything must be more precise that BP stage. I was assigned to draw and design the tiles for 40 storey height residential tower, it was a challenge for me and it also the first time I handle high rise building in my life, I tried to minimize the wastage of cutting tiles and design the tiles according to the spaces. As conclusion, I had been through a rich and meaningful internship journey. The knowledge and design I learn from experienced architect here were much more substantial beyond the knowledge that I gained in my education life. In this company all the architects are knowledgeable and experienced, when I have any inquiries or problems that I faced during my work, they willing to spend out their time to educate me patiently. Last but not least, the greatest memorable moment has I had the chance to participate the discussion session with the top architect in Malaysia - Kamil Merican. Once again, I am grateful for the experiences and people I had the opportunity to work with.
