ABOUT US The YMCA is a global network founded in 1844 where more than 700,000 volunteers and 96,000 employees serve 58 million people in 119 countries and 11,000 communities. The diversity of our programmes bring innovative solutions and adapt to different contexts and realities providing focused, quality attention. Our local initiatives become the great impact of YMCA. OUR IMPACT IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN More than half million children and youth engage in YMCA programmes in the region strengthening values, skills, and knowledge to become agents of change in their communities. More than one and a half million people find safe spaces and support in 45 local YMCAs in 28 countries to reach their full potential. The YMCA becomes the meeting point in 496 communities across the region where people build community.


THE NEED Changing economic and family dynamics are leaving many youth unsupervised during critical out-of-school hours. Unsupervised youth are at high risk for: - Juvenile crime - Accidents - Substance abuse - Gang involvement - Teen pregnancy

YMCA RESPONSE

Schools cannot do it all. Youth need additional support within community to succeed academically and become confident, healthy, and engage citizens. Youth development has been a cornerstone of YMCA programmes and activities since 1844. At the YMCA, we nurture the potential of every children and youth through holistic approaches focused on the spiritual, physical, and cognitive development of every individual.

YMCA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMME OUTCOMES Research has shown that children and youth participating in after school programmes: - Improved school attendance - Enhanced academic success - Are more likely to graduate high school - Are more likely to attend tertiary education - Improved social and emotional development and relationships - Have lower rates of teen pregnancy - Narrow the math and reading achievement gap - Reduce aggressive behaviors - Improve work habits and self-efficiency


YMCA AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMME IMPACT YMCA youth development programmes addresses the main and underlying cause of many challenges our communities face. We focus on prevention to reduce the severity of need for intervention later in life. By participating in YMCA after school programmes, youth have the skills and confidence to succeed not only in school, but in life. The YMCA is making sure that children and youth in the Caribbean region have opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. Our children and youth who participate in YMCA after school programs: - Complete their homework assignments and increase school attendance - Reinforce core values and develop leadership skills - Improve and demonstrate age appropriate social-emotional skills - Participate in regular physical activity improving their health and wellbeing - Understand and value community service and volunteerism As a result, students become active youth leaders in their families and communities.

CIBC FIRSTCARIBBEAN INTERNATIONAL COMTRUST FOUNDATION PARTNERSHIP Advancing Youth Development We invite CIBC FirstCaribbean International ComTrust Foundation to join the YMCA in ensuring that more youth have access to quality after school programming and care. An investment of USD $400,000 over three years will ensure that the YMCA is able to continue to make these programs available to youth from different backgrounds and walks of life, supporting their academic achievement, developing their leadership and character, improving their health and wellbeing, and expanding programme reach and impact. The YMCA of Grand Bahama is a local, non-profit charitable organisation incorporated in Grand Bahama and founded in 1970.
