RECONSTRUYAMOS PERÚ WE REBUILD PERU
ANTECEDENTES / BACKGROUND En los meses de febrero y marzo de 2017 se registraron eventos hidrológicos en Perú que al 31 de marzo habían provocado 149,848 damnificados, 950,498 afectados, 101 fallecidos, 353 heridos, 20 desaparecidos, 10,538 viviendas colapsadas, 12,123 viviendas inhabitadas, 205 640 viviendas afectadas, 1,903 Km. de carreteras destruidos, 3,814 Km. de carreteras afectadas, 159 puentes destruidos y 271 puentes afectados como consecuencia de precipitaciones pluviales de inusual carga. La ciudad de Trujillo, a 561 km al norte de Lima, donde YMCA Perú trabaja desde hace 25 años con familias en situación de extrema pobreza y vulnerabilidad, ha sido una de las zonas más afectadas donde viviendas y negocios han sido arrasados. La propia sede comunitaria de YMCA también fue afectada seriamente en su infraestructura por el embate de las lluvias. Para no detener el trabajo social que la YMCA impulsa en el barrio de El Milagro en la zona de Trujillo y dónde se ha construido una relación sólida y potente con la comunidad, YMCA Perú organizó ayuda urgente para más de 70 familias con viviendas seriamente afectadas, así como reconstruir la sede YMCA. During the months of February and March of 2017, Peru experienced unusual rainfall and river overflows. As of March 31, these natural disaster had affected 950,498 people, left 149,848 homeless, injured 353, caused 101 deaths, and 20 missing. In addition, 205,640 affected homes, 10,538 homes collapsed, 12,123 are uninhabited, 1,903 km (1,182 miles) of roads destroyed, 3,814 km (2,364 miles) of roads affected, 159 bridges destroyed, and 271 bridges affected as a result of the emergency. The city of Trujillo, 561 km (348 miles) north of Lima, where YMCA Peru has been working for the past 25 years with families in extreme poverty and vulnerability, has been one of the most affected areas where homes and businesses have been devastated. The YMCA community center has been seriously affected in its infrastructure by heavy rains.
To continue delivering critical YMCA programs and services in the neighborhood of El Milagro in Trujillo and where the YMCA has developed a solid and deep relationship, YMCA Peru provided immediate care and support to more than 70 families whose houses had been seriously affected, as well as rebuilding the YMCA center.
NUESTRA RESPUESTA / OUR RESPONSE YMCA Perú elaboró un diagnóstico detallado de la comunidad y recabó información pormenorizada de 123 familias vinculadas a YMCA para determinar las necesidades y áreas de intervención. Se detectó que el 79.5% de las familias requerían atención urgente.
YMCA Peru conducted a thorough needs assessment and gathered detailed information of 123 families linked to the YMCA to identify needs and define their approach. From the assessment, it emerged that 79.5% families needed urgent support.
Objetivo 1: - Contribuir a la recuperación de hogares seguros (paredes y techos) para 73 familias en El Milagro.
Objective 1: - Help repair and build safe homes (roofs and walls) for 73 families in El Milagro.

Actividades realizadas: - Reparación de los hogares de 20 familias de acuerdo al mapeo de necesidades y el compromiso establecido con cada hogar. - YMCA Perú organizó 2 brigadas de voluntarios, cada brigada incluía un maestro de obra y su asistente, voluntarios de la YMCA y la participación activa de las familias. Todos los voluntarios recibieron capacitación de acuerdo a los estándares de YMCA.
Activities completed: - Repaired the homes for 20 families according to needs assessment and agreements with each family. - YMCA Peru organized two volunteer brigades. Each brigade included a skilled leader and his assistant, YMCA volunteers, and the active participation of the families. All volunteers received prior training in accordance with YMCA standards.
Objetivo 2: - Aportar con 5 acciones educativo-preventivas a la comunidad afectada en El Milagro respecto de los riesgos hidrológicos bajo cambio climático.
Objective 2: - Provide 5 training on disaster prevention with linkages to climate change adaptation in El Milagro.
Avances: 60% de cumplimiento.

Actividades realizadas: - 3 talleres con la participación de 125 personas, realizadas en colaboración con el Centro de Operaciones de Emergencia de La Libertad (entidad del Estado).

Objetivo 3: - Rehabilitar la infraestructura del Centro de Desarrollo YMCA en El Milagro.
