Hand Colouring

This is my hand colouring task that we did in class. The photo was originally Black and White and the task was to put colour on top as a mask to the Black and White photo.

Selective Colour This is our selective colour task. The idea of this task was to narrow the photo down to one colour e.g. Red, and then mask the rest of the other colours.

HDR

(High Dynamic Range) This is or HDR task. The idea of this task is to have three photos all the same but with different exposers, one stop over and one stop under the original photo, the point of this is to make the photo have a bit more pop to it.

Iwona

Flickr - Iwona_podlasinska

I am inspired by Iwona because she has some very lovely shots and she shows a side of photography that i am still yet to learn and explore.

Pixar & Disney

Here is some photos to show that Disney and Pixar are two company’s that are very good at using ROYGBIV and I think this is cool because they would not be the same without the colour.

Sowing Threads

This is my Research into the ideas I have for what I am after in the photos I take. I have chosen to do this because i think they have some very nice colour in them. The top left photo is my Inspiration to my cover photo, which is a canvas with crayons glued to the top then melted with a hair dryer to make the effect.

ROYGBIV

Photos

My first idea was to use lipstick but then I got the idea to take photos of reels of threads.

I am planing to show what i look at in my research.

I need to use the reels of thread, I already have everything else.

I need to consider lighting, and F Stop.

I will stay indoors.

Morning on the weekend.

Non, that I know of.

Red

D - For Red I chose to do this because I liked the idea of not having colour along the sides leading into the colour I was after. This image was taken on a kitchen bench. I decided to use six grey and one red to make the red stand out more. R -This image is shot up close with a long depth of field. U - This shot was taken on a 18mm - 55mm at 18mm lens with my 1100D, ISO 1000 with shutter speed on 1/40 and F-stop of 3.5. I have cropped the photo to 16:9. M - The intention to this image was to make the red stand out. The reason I decided to use sowing threads is because Grandma has lots of them and i really like the colours. P - The plus is that the red stands out because I have the six greys. M - Well, this is hard to choose, I really don’t have a minus for this shot. I - You can see the reflection in the bench top.

Orange

D - I made Orange my center colour then formed the rest of the idea from that. R - This image has been shot up close. From the left side. U - This shot was taken on a 18mm - 55mm lens at 30mm, with my 1100D, ISO 1000 with shutter speed on 1/40 and F-stop of 4.5. I have cropped the photo to 16:9. M - The intention was to sort of recreate one of the images in my research.

P - The plus is the orange stands out from the other threads in the shot. M - A minus for me would be just to how I set the colours, I like them and all but I probably could have them set up differently for a different feel to the photo. I-

Yellow

D - For Yellow I chose to do this because Yellow id the third colour in ROYGBIV and it seamed simple and plane. R -This image is shot up close. U - This shot was taken on a 18mm - 55mm lens at 32mm with my 1100D, ISO 2000 with shutter speed on 1/60 and F-stop of 5.0. I have cropped the photo to 16:9. M - The intention for this photo was to make it plane and simple and not have too much in the photo.

P - It’s simple and there is not too much going on. M - The Yellow isn’t as bright as i had tried to get, and Photoshop fixes make the photo look really bad. I-

Green

D - For Green used a different type of thread to make this photo have a different feel. R -This image is shot up close with a shallow depth of field. It is focused on the front left reel. U - This shot was taken on a 18mm - 55mm lens at 30mm with my 1100D, ISO 2000 with shutter speed on 1/50 and F-stop of 4.5. I have cropped the photo to 16:9. M - The intention to this image was to make the reels look like they where standing in a group and kind of make it look like the camera was that one extra friend to the group. P - The plus is that I got the depth of field right. M - I could have changed the angle of the camera or something to remove the light reflection on the front right reel. I-

Blue

D - For Blue I decided to make look like they were walking at each other in two lines and then I decided why not stand one on top. R -This image is shot up close with a deep depth of field. U - This shot was taken on a 18mm - 55mm lens at 18mm with my 1100D, ISO 800 with shutter speed on 1/40 and F-stop of 3.5. I have cropped the photo to 16:9. M - The intention for this was to make this look different (well try to) from the others and I wanted to be able to see all the blues.

P - The plus is that all the blues are a nice sharp colour M - This image gives me a, I like it, I don’t like it feeling when I see it. I - I got a very good depth of field.

Purple

D - For Purple I decided to put the threads onto the over locker, because that is what the threads are for. R -This image is shot up close with a shallow depth of field. U - This shot was taken on a 18mm - 55mm lens at 47mm with my 1100D, ISO 1600 with shutter speed on 1/80 and F-stop of 5.6. I have cropped the photo to 16:9. M - The Intention was to make it look like the threads were being used on the over locker. In the image i didn’t want the closed thread reel focused on so with that I focused on the front left one and it turned out better then I thought. P - The plus is that is looks really cool on the Over Locker. M - Well, this photo really doesn’t have a minus for me. I - The 16:9 crop really give the photo a better look and makes it more interesting to look at.

Artist Statement The over all intention was to be different in the way that I use reels of thread and not do something like make up or something simple like that. I got this whole idea from Grandma who is the sower in the family and she is someone who has been a big help in this assignment as she too is a photographer. I just wanted to do something simple and not over think this too much. I feel that this has gone well. With my yellow photo I have had to redo the shoot for that, because the photos I first tok have not wored out and they just didn’t workout. The title pages with the canvas, that is a canvas I made. I made the canvas by gluing the crayons to the canvas and melting them with a hair dryer. My favorite image would be purple.
