This year, two party lists were formed, namely; Youth of today Open for progress Leaders of tomorrow and Oaths to better

future (YOLO) and Motivated Leaders: Brave, Admirable and Notable Government in Becoming Better Allies of the New Generation (ML BANG BANG). Last February 27, 2019, the anticipated answer on who will be the new SCB leaders were revealed. The newly elected major officers are: President: Neil Johnson De Guzman (MLBB); Vice President: Jessa Marie

As for grade level representatives the following students were voted in: Grade 12: John Zachary Balteza (MLBB) and Francheska Juntura (MLBB); Grade 10: Joseph Vance Ong (MLBB) and Joshua Sapusao (YOLO); Grade 9: Elias Miguel Rufino (YOLO) and Mikylla Kim Marcelo (YOLO); Grade 8: Angeline Kate Octa (YOLO) and Third Christian Pineda (YOLO); Grade 6: Shiloh Delos Santos (MLBB) and Sherisse Ann Belarma (MLBB); Grade 5: Redmond Francis Tuazon (MLBB)

Meanwhile, a candidates’ forum was done prior to the elections last February 22 where the candidates were asked questions formulated by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). Moreover, the miting de avance was done last February 27. A follow-up forum was also done but this time, the questions were from the crowd and are directed to a specific candidate. On the other hand, this SCB elections is the second time that the school has used a computerized system for the voting and canvassing of votes.

ast February 6, the House of Representatives approved House Bill (HB) 8961 or the bill that will impose mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. (ROTC) for Grade 11 and 12 or the Senior High School (SHS) on its second reading. This two-year mandatory ROTC aims to produce well-disciplined nationalists and reservists. If passed into law, a SHS student will not be able to graduate if he or she fails to complete the program.

no Students also commented “Physical abuses, violence, harassment, and other forms of rights violations have long been institutionalized by generating more and more AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) pawns in schools.” Anakbayan also firmly opposes the proposed bill saying “ROTC breeds miniature Digongs – abusers, fascists, and murderers.”

The ROTC was once implemented at the college level until it was abolished due to the allegations regarding the corruption in the system. Based from an investigation, Mark Welson Chua, a student cadet from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) was murdered because of exposing the said corruption. Due to this, the Republic Act No. 9163 or the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001 was created, making the ROTC optional and voluntary.

time to rest from the multitude of school work will be used then for ROTC trainings. Time, effort, and money will be wasted if this program is implemented. Many students get anxiety and other mental health problems due to academic stress; how much more if they are also physically fatigued? The president’s intent may be well-founded, however, when we consider the means, it is bootless. The administration is just using this reason to hide the truth that this ROTC is completely ineffective and is corrupt. Just this year, another ROTC-linked incident happened. The death of Willy Amihoy, a ROTC cadet on the hands of his ROTC Corps Commander Elmer Decilao was confirmed by the police. The officer murdered the cadet by using a metal pipe that was struck on his head multiple times until Amihoy was found dead inside the toilet, bloody,

On the other hand, some groups support the ROTC. he earliest recorded formal beauty pageant was in 1854. Phineas Taylor "P.T." Barnum was responsible for starting the first modern American pageant that said year, only to be closed down due to public protests and social outcries of immorality and degradation. Skip to present day, beauty pageants are now universally accepted and annually produced for entertainment purposes joined by different people through varying countries. Many modifications and technicalities were also established where it is now possible for transgender and non-binary women to enter these said contests. In fact, just last year on the 29th of June, Angela Ponce made history by becoming the first ever transgender woman to nab the title of Miss Universe Spain. She was also the first to represent the Trans Community in the Miss Universe pageant after the organization reversed a long-standing qualification that candidates must be "naturally-born women". Of course, where there is breakthrough, there is backlash. Social media platforms went ablaze when news of this came about. On one side of the argument, petitions were started to disqualify her. On another, boycotts were being established against the Miss Universe Organization (MUO). Comment sections of different social media outlets were flooded with transphobic and noninclusive dialogues and to this day, there are still individuals who think her participation in this "prestigious" beauty pageant was a wrong move by the franchise. Points were raised during the heat of this issue, from "Why doesn't she just enter beauty pageants for transgender people?" to

BIZARRE!

While people preserve its language, it preserves the marks of liberty.” —El Filibusterismo

Baybayin is an ancient script used primarily by the Tagalog people. It’s been used in 13th until the 18th century. The word

I, DEFIANT "She doesn't need to infiltrate this specific pageant! It's disrespectful to REAL women!" all the way to the inane "But he is a MAN! He can't enter this contest because he isn't a woman to begin with." were the most rampant out of all the commentary made. These online personas were as enraged as if the women in their lives were catcalled on the street or as disappointed as when a female coworker lost a higher position to male opposition. They were feeling, and they were feeling deeply, but their seeds of sentiments were sown on the wrong soil. To this day, transphobia and outright misgendering is a widespread problem that the transgender community has to fight and push through every day just to survive in society. Hate crimes are more so directed towards them than in any other sector of the LGBTQ+ community because of their gender and because of how, who, or what they identify as. Angela Ponce's representation of the said community was but another tiny gesture of hope and inclusivity stepped on and disrespected by the giant boot of masochism and transphobia demonstrated by those who dismiss objectives they do not understand. Looking back at the situation makes one wonder why people dig this deep for something so

Baybayin means “to spell” in Tagalog. According to National Commission for Culture and Arts and Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, Virgilio Almario, there are evidences that before the Spanish regime, there’s an occurrent civilization that many Filipinos were one hundred percent (100%) literate and able to write and speak. But when the Spaniards came to the country, the language was replaced to Roman language. Last April 2018, House Bill 1022 or the proposed "National Writing System Act" which is authored by Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, Congressman of the Second District of Pangasinan, was approved by the House Com-

shallow. To ignite a senseless revolution against one human- a woman at that- for representing an initiative that does not align with another's set of beliefs is in and of itself, waging a war without a win. Why does a transgender woman's participation in a beauty contest heed public outcry when the contest itself is in dire need of a systematic fix? Moreover, why beauty pageants are still prominent in today's society is still a big question in need of an even bigger answer. As a country, our collective obsession with beauty pageants, specifically the annual Miss Universe pageant is an unhealthy illness that magnifies the issue with our own self-image and the constant need for social gratification. In layman's terms, a beauty pageant is a parade of "cookie-cutter" women who walk on an elevated platform in an array of clothing only to be judged by physique, facial symmetry, and how satisfying one is to the male gaze. Yes, it is a great avenue for women empowerment and advocating for each of their own espousal. But realistically and to be put harshly, it's underlying themes and the impact it has on females, more importantly, impressionable young girls and their body image, is nothing short of damaging and demeaning. Being led into thinking that cinched waists and inflated mammary glands are what makes you a woman is outright disgusting and wrong. Beauty is not constricting, It is freeing. Beauty is not restraining, It is flexible and transformative. Beauty is not an archetype, It is elusive and ever changing. Beauty is not a gender, it is androgynous and unlabeled. And out of all the things that Beauty is, a pageant it is not.

mittee on Basic Education and Culture. According to Bataoil, “It is our recognition and appreciation that it’s ours and it’s the first language being used before we’d been colonized by the Spaniards.” He promotes that Baybayin should be the national system of writing and that it should be preserved. In the House’s Press Release, it is stated that “the measure seeks to declare Baybayin as the Philippines’ national writing system, generating greater awareness on the plight of Baybayin and foster wider appreciation on its importance and beauty.” In the Section 4 of the bill, it states that (a) All manufacturers are requiring all of their locally processed food products to put Baybayin lan-

n the midst of discord between the government those who oppose lies an equally damaging crime lingering behind the facade. In our country, average 9-year-olds blew at their birthday candles, unknowingly overseeing the next hundreds of days of playing Chinese garter, tumbang preso, or tag but as a casualty of the dispute within our country, the right of all children to live in normal means is compromised. In an act of desperation, syndicates and terrorist groups recruit even the youngest of youth in service of the groups’ ideology. More often than not, these groups take advantage of the youths’ vulnerability and naivety, leaving the, with a not so thorough grasp of their own sense of morality and discernment. The very existence of the situation is the reason why citizens and law makers are in favor of lowering the minimum age of criminal liability. Under the proposed House Bill 8858 which passed the first reading this year on January 21, children aged 9 to below 15 can face criminal charges if found guilty of the crime. Perhaps posing as a bold and strategic move to counter the threats of syndicates and terrorists but even with an intention to eradicate a problem, the law was met with numerous oppositions and to put it bluntly this rushed implementation of law cannot solve the dilemma that is being currently faced. Issues to be concerned on the bill dwell with it being an overstretch, anti-poor, and a product of poor judgement. The majority expressed on how the law psychologically prevents children from receiving guage. (b) Mandating the local government units. (c) Requiring newspaper and magazine publishers to use the language. (d) Directing the appropriate government agency to use for signages. The Baybayin alphabet is very straight forward yet many people do find it hard to memorize. Thus, it should be added to the school’s curriculum and students should have basic knowledge of it. Baybayin isn’t just a writing system, rather it is art. It must be strengthened through its nationwide implementation. The writing

Another aspect to mention is the law’s nature of being anti-poor. Professionals have already stated that the population to be mostly affected are mainly the youth who are poverty-stricken because given the situation they are in; they are perhaps most susceptible to the exploitation of syndicates. Lack of education, scarcity and the desire to sustain basic necessities serve as motives to result into doing wrong actions. Thus, given that lack of guidance due to unharmonious surroundings is a certain variable. Isn’t it riskier to keep youths who are in conflict with the law from attaining the help they need with detention? Since instead of eliminating the root of the problem, it is further fueled on by placing the cure farther away from the hands of those who suffer. Days after the proposition of the bill, the minimum age was raised to 12. Although much desirable than the previous, the recent minimum still holds much to be analyzed on for such age is barely even capable of having a precise definition of right from wrong hence quite young for someone to hold accountability for a crime. 15 or 16 as suggested minimum is more reasonable given that it is at in the stage of transitioning into a fully realized individual thus is much more aware of his/her action and the consequences that came with it. To conclude, this just greatly implies that education and promotion of parental guidance to be so far the most humane and reasonable approach to the nation’s problem. After all Dr. Jose P. Rizal, our national hero, once believed that us youth is the hope of the future therefore to tarnish their potential for improvement and change is to put our country in grave peril.

system also becomes a tool for promoting the Filipino culture especially the country’s authentic identity. It may take time for the whole nation to familiarize with the alphabet but with the help of the government especially the concerned departments, it will eventually reach its full bloom. We should give more importance to the rich cultural legacies of our ancestors in order to give deeper meaning of the colors and arts of our country. As Filipinos, we must patronize our own.

ex Talionis. An eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth.

It was in 8th grade during our Araling Panlipunan class when I’ve heard of this phrase— the Code of Hammurabi. This phrase was just in my mind’s files of stocked knowledge but it came out of the box and appealed to me recently. Last March 11, news of an incident wherein a girl was found dead without her undergarments and skinned to the bone broke the internet. Following this news, many have voiced out to support the revival of the ever-socontroversial capital punishment or death penalty for such heinous crimes.

Echegaray. In this country where money and influence is powerful and the weak are not given the full extent of justice, the death penalty appears to be anti-poor. Thus, justice becomes a privilege for the wealthy.

Extra-judicial killings due to Duterte’s drug war since 2016 has been another longstanding issue. Even without the death penalty, killings happen. A notable incident is the case of treason. Dear Editor-in-Chief, Good day to you and all the fellow writers of the La Consolites' Newsette. We would like to state our opinion on two things that we had noticed throughout the school year. First is that there are some books that were not used making the reason buying them just go to waste. Some of those unused books cost 500 to 600 Pesos. We know that it's already the age of visual learning and teaching so why buy the books if they're not going to be used? Secondly, why is it so that the library computers are more useful than the ones in computer laboratory regarding the use of the internet in the library for research? Sometimes it just get crowded in the space that some students have to result in going to computer shops to create a PowerPoint presentation or a hardcopy of their document.

Sincerely, Concerned Student —— Dear fellow student, Good day to you as well! We experience the same thing with regards to the books. We think that the school should look further into the content of the books that will be sold considering the prescribed lessons for each subject in the DepEd curriculum. As for the library computers, we believe that in terms of resource gathering, its location is more appropriate. Students must learn to maximize the use of the library whose main purpose is to serve as a place where we can find resources. Having the computers in the library encourages the students to look into books and not only the internet to gather information. However, the library personnel should be more strict and ensure that the users are utilizing the computers for educational purposes only. It is true that there are times that school works pile up and the library getting cramped up cannot be avoided. Thus, the school should add more computer units to cater to students’ needs. Thank you for your concern.

nclined to the historic visit of Pope Francis as the first pope to visit the Arabian Peninsula, a very remarkable event happened last February 4, 2019 as the Pope and the Grand Imam of Egypt’s Al-Alzhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb embraced and did a “nose kiss” after signing “The Document on Human Fraternity.” The said document pledges that Al-alzhar and the Vatican will be one to battle extremism. It was

inked in the name of “all victims of wars, persecution and injustice; and those tortured in any part of the world, without distinction.” It also highlighted the Grand Imam of Egypt’s call for the Muslims in the Middle East to embrace local Christian communities and Pope Francis’ exclaim for full religious freedom in the majority Muslim region. Many were shocked by this act especially the “kiss” part and that became the main reason why it gained plenty criticisms. Here are some of their comments based on the Facebook page of ABS-CBN News: “Are men kissing at the lips a tradition?“ “Bakit lips to lips nakakahi-

Sincerely, The Editors

ya naman” “5 SECONDS! WALANG MALISYA!” “Kung beso-beso ok lang pero eto lips to lips? Tama ba nakikita ko??” On the other hand, some also share their opposing insights about these negative perceptions. They explained that it was a nose kiss and not a kiss directly to the lips. They clarified that it is a part of the Arab culture as their gesture for greeting other people. It is certainly not right to put malice in one’s traditional practice. The “nose kissing” might look a little intimate for some who practice different tradition

but we must respect it just like how we want our own culture to be respected. We must understand that the said movement will help proselytize friendship that may lead to a wide application of accepting that despite of having diverse religions, we can still interact to one another without hesitations. Just like Pope Francis said, “If we believers are not able to shake hands, embrace one another, kiss one another, and even pray, our faith will be defeated. As stated in the signed document, the “multiplicity of religions” that we see in the world

was “willed by God”. At the very beginning, God gave us the freedom to make decisions, to have our own beliefs and to choose the path we want. Same goes in adhering religions, no matter what our religion is, God will still accept us for he planned all of this out of His divine wisdom. Thus, the fact that the people are pressured to cohere to a certain religion or culture must be dismissed, same as to the cultural manners that others don’t accept. “Let us offer each other the sign of peace.”

The youth camp was actively participated by the participants coming from the different associations: The Catholic Educational Association of Legazpi (CEAL), Catholic Educational Association of Caceres and Libmanan (CEACAL), Catholic Educational Association of Sorsogon (CEAS), Catholic Educational Association of Virac (CEAV), Masbate Catholic Educational Association (MACEA) and Catholic Educational Association Of Daet (CEAD).

another and I bet that the participants from our school; Jessica Azaña (Gr.12Love), Russel Malaluan ( Gr.11Simplicity), Antonette Gan (Gr.10Integrity), Maryll Elijah Co (Gr.10Interiority), Joshua Sapusao (Gr.9Charity), Christine Pasatiempo ( Gr.9Unity), Shara Villagracia (Gr. 8Fortitude),Valerie Nael (Gr.8-Fortitude) and Ms. Michelle Villa, our chaperone/ teacher-companion, had a great time too.

This isn’t my first time joining the BACS youth camp, In fact, It is my third year. But this camp was indeed different from the past BACS youth camps that I attended because this time, I’m not joining as a participant, but as a Vice President that will lead and guide CEAD until the end of the camp.

BACS youth camp mornings is always all about breakfast and the mass, but this year, the facilitators changed that tradition by conducting Zumba before those activities at exactly 5:30 in the morning. That is why it was not surprising for me to see participants doing Zumba with their pajamas on. The highlight of the day 1 are the outreach programs. The participants were grouped randomly and were assigned to different places. Six groups was formed for there are also six outreach destinations and those are: Home for the Aged, DSWD, Casa Miani, Jardin de Maria, Brgy. Bitan-o and Brgy. Sampaloc.I was assigned to facilitate the participants that will go to Brgy. Bitan-o. It was a heart warming experience for me to see how the participants exert efforts and build unity with one another to make those children happy by doing a lot of games, conducting feeding program and of course, by spreading the Word of God in a very understandable manner.

After the 7-hour bus trip from Daet to Sorsogon last February 22,2019, we arrived at the venue and received the IDs and kits which we will be needed in the whole duration of the camp. After that, we settled our belongings in our designated rooms then had our dinner. The welcome dinner was not just an ordinary dinner ceremony, it became an opportunity for us to interact with the delegates of other associations because of the simple yet effective interactive activities the host association prepared. That night, all of us shared a very joyous experience to one

After the outreach program, the participants had another group for group sharing and with the help of the seminarians in charge, each share their experiences regarding on what they had encounter in their assigned outreach spots. The participants seemed to be very clueless as they walk their way to the auditorium for dinner with only candles and signage guiding them. It was pretty much obvious that curiosity was filling each participant’s system and when it was announced that they will be having a Monks meal, their excitement began to

Just after the dinner, We, the youth council together with the facilitators, grouped the participants according to the sticker they have in their ID that indicates their group for the team building. They are assigned to make a flag based on the animal character they picked. Another surprise shocked them as the host announced that there will be a Mr.and Ms. BACS Youth Top Model that will be showcased during the cultural night. The second day was the most loaded day of the BACS Youth Camp. The day was started by a very significant mass because the presider was none other than the Bishop of Daet, Bp. Rex Andrew C. Alarcon. It was followed by 2 seminars which gave emphasis to the youth empowerment . After that, the election of the new BACS youth officers was conducted. Russel O. Malaluan, a Grade 11 student of our school, was elected as the new Vice President of CEAD and it has been decided that the BACS Youth Camp 2020 will be held in Legazpi. Afterwards, the team building happened. There are 10 exciting stations and this will surely test the cooperation and strategy of each group because they only have 5 minutes to finish each station correctly and if the time is up, all groups have to move to the next station based on the next number of their original station. Chants and songs were evident in the whole auditorium as we began the Taize prayer. The said prayer is an unbiblical attempt to connect with God. Scripture says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Then the most awaited cultural night happened after the dinner. The presentation of the candidates for the fashion show first took place. I can conclude that the Bicolano youth are really creative and resourceful because of the wonderful dresses they created out of trash or any free resources despite of the limited time they had. Next is the presentation of the cultural dances. Each association was as-

signed to share a cultural number that their province have. As for CEAD, We proudly share to everyone our very own Bantayog Festival. The night of the youth camp became a night of diverse cultures and of course, it became a night for us to remember as it was ended with a party that gave all of us a chance to enjoy the rest of the night chatting and dancing with one another. 3rd day, the day most of us wouldn’t want to come because this just means we have to bid goodbye to our BACS friends.During the closing program, The announcement of different awards was conducted and Jessica Azana won the Best Team Leader award among all the delegates for she showed an exceptional leadership skills during the team building. Before going back to each home province, We took a tour on some amazing and remarkable places that Sorsogon has to offer.First stop, The seaside of Barcelona, Sorsogon. A place where I had the chance to capture a lot of memories through photographs with the people whom I treasure the most, the CEAD delegates, some delegates from other associations and of course, the BACS youth council 2019.Next, we went to Bulusan Lake, this place relieved us from the warm feeling we felt from the previous spot because it was surrounded by a lot of trees which made the whole surroundings cool and chilly. For our last destination, we went to San Benon hot spring, where we experienced to feel the warmth of the hot springs there. The whole place was filled with wide smiles and loud laughs which will never be forgotten. No words can describe the happiness I felt during the youth camp. I really want to thank God for letting me experience all these things. Next I would like to thank CEAD for the unconditional support and trust they have given me during my term. It was really an ‘expect the unexpected’ kind of journey for me. I would also like to thank the other youth councils for the friendship we shared during our several meetings from BACS meet up until the BACS youth camp. You guys are the best! Erica Justin M .Marcelo, Vice President for CEAD 2018-2019, is now signing off.

artists vary from body contortionists to vocallytrained singers. It serves to please an audience, to entertain a crowd and more often than not, the grace and beauty showcased in a performance has gone through rigorous and heavy-duty work all because of the performer's longing for something. Maybe it's the applause they are after, or maybe it's the feeling of freedom. Maria is one of the many performance artists in her school. But unlike anyone here, her art lies on pen and paper, she can't dance for a play nor can she sing for the masses, she only has the truth and the truth is skill enough. She writes for their school publication, that is

her art form. She seeks for the truth, that is how she pleases the audience. But with everything that has applause, there is uproar. Rod, he doesn't like being served the truth on a platter. You see, he is the Student Council President in Maria's school. He won using scare tactics and fearmongering, and secured the spot with his empty promises and false hopes. Maria rued Rod, but Maria did not fight back. Instead, she wrote. Rod didn't like how someone so demure on the outside give off this effervescence with her words. He was furious beyond reason. On one hand, because it taints his reputation. On another, because it's

the truth. To stop her from this, He threatened to shut down the School Publication if Maria continues to go against the Administration. But Maria didn't fight back. Instead, she wrote. Days after the debacle, Maria was informed that the School Paper will no longer continue circulation. But she didn't bat an eye, she didn't even shudder. She knew what was coming and now, she decided to fight back. So she wrote. She wrote because unlike anyone here, her art lies on pen and paper, she can't dance for a play nor can she sing for the masses, she only has the truth and the truth is skill enough, and no one can take that away from her.

BY: TOMMY TUAZON A sprinkle of elegance, a dash of eloquence, and a great set of teeth. These are all important qualities a beauty queen must possess in order to get that shimmering sash. No doubt, these factors heighten their chances of becoming the next Miss Universe; A beaming smile, charisma, and a charm are indeed deal breakers, but it isn't enough to win the crown. Most might say winning lies behind the smile, but for the very few, it's all behind the seams. To be a fashion designer takes intricacy and a strong attention to detail; among other qualities. Every backstitch and finishing seam counts, especially in turning your sketch into a skirt. The world of Haute Couture is as cut-throat as it is exclusive, and while many brands have established their dominance over the world of high-fashion, every once in a while, there are breakthrough independents that take the fashion world by storm; Such is Mak Tumang. Not much can be found with regards to his early life and his existence before being known as "Catriona's Gown Designer" other than his father (Teddy Tumang) being Mexico City's town mayor and him being Kapampangan, but accord-

ing to Tumang's website, His career as a fashion designer started out as "sheer, raw talent" and it manifests in his creations; from Catriona's "Adarna" gown that he created for the Miss Universe Preliminaries to the other gown he embroidered for the actual 2018 Miss Universe Competition, now famously dubbed the "Lava Gown" followed suit by Catriona's famed "Lava Walk". Indeed, Tumang is an exemplary role model in teaching the younger generation of other possibilities besides the usual professions that families and relatives impose on countless young ins from all over the country. It takes hard work and passion to pursue occupations in health and public service but it takes even harder work and a stronger grasp on to a passion to chase your dreams and turn it into a living. So many individuals are

losing their individuality to blend into but another the sea of people. So many creatives are turning into corporate slaves for fear of not surviving with passion alone. So much talent is lost because "not having enough talent" is a fear most of these people have. Mak Tumang is only one of the handful of creatives in this field who actually make it. Living in the Philippines where a career in anything other than Engineering, Medicine, or Law is a set-up for failure, may Mak Tumang be seen not as someone who creates ball gowns for the supposed Belles of the ball, but someone who makes his creations for everyone else who attends the ball unnoticed.

Alone Together: A Post-millennial Life Story BY: JEROME D. SAPUSAO

Veiled with a seemingly vintage and indie atmosphere, the film “Alone Together” directed by Ms. Antoinette Jadaone, proves to be so far the most mature project by the love team of Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano. The movie follows Tin, played by Liza Soberano, an optimist and an achiever who went through a downfall in her career and Raf, played by Enrique Gil, a person that most considered to be hopeless turned a successful doctor, and how they cope with the overwhelming turn of events. Accompanying the plot, the setting of the film became a huge factor in piquing the interest of the masses both the youth and those of the former generation. The precise depiction of the moderately distant past such as scenes that took place in

the National Museum and University of the Philippines in Diliman stirred the attention of the social media netizens leaving them with a sense of anticipation and nostalgia. “We must never forget” With the historical “Spoliarium” of Juan Luna as witness, Tin who works part-time as a museum guide delivered the line that would soon be the principle and virtue from which upon they as characters will learn from and us, as audiences are encouraged to do the same. The plot explores the conflict that arise as the two protagonists’ stars collided with one another bringing up their unresolved past that soon became both a tribulation and a blessing in disguise. The very existence

of the hindrances that rose cause disturbances in other aspects of their own personal life. That said, the fact that the movie does not revolve exclusively in the romance between the characters, proves that aside from being a love story, it is a life story. Good reviews and acclamation from the general public aside, issues too did form in regards the theme of the movie specially before the premiere of the movie. Due to the trailers released, the movie was opened for theories and speculation. One that became prominent suggest that the film romanticized cheating. Although the movie did venture through the theme of cheating, it did not particularly tolerated the idea of being

unfaithful. On the contrary, a scene shows a confused Tin being encouraged by Raf to start their love anew despite the former still being in relationship which leads to Her refusing because she knows to herself that to romantically involve herself to another person while already being in a relationship is morally wrong. This just implies that the film acknowledges that unfaithfulness towards a partner is not a mistake to be normalized. As for Raf, He broke up with her lover before pursuing and courting Tin. Although still wrong to end a relationship in order to reignite a former one, to the very least the romance to continue their past one happened after both have come into terms with each others flaws and faults.

President Cory Aquino Boulevard: Extension of Haven and Serenity BY: EMILLE LYNA PANOTES Golden. I feel golden every time the beach waves touch my skin with a sun-kissed on my face that always heartens my soul. The brisk of fresh air energizes my system and the smile on the lips of people completes the void in every water droplet in the ocean. It is incredibly true that bodies of water feel like a safe haven. But, how about roads? Yet, it is commonly busy and dangerous, but it can also be a place just like a haven. One of the prestigious tourist destination in Daet, Camarines Norte is the Bagasbas Beach. It is a place for everyone. It is a spot for swimming and surfing, and several community activities in the province. But why is it popular? Dazzling. The people, the ambience, the cleanliness of the vicinity and the humbly lucency of the beach.

Alongside of the Bagasbas Beach is the President Cory Aquino Boulevard, named after the first woman President of the Philippines. Recently, the construction of the bridges way to the town of Mercedes, Camarines Norte is already completed, while the way the other side leading to Talisay, Camarines Norte is still under inspection. According to Department of Public Works and Highways, the boulevard is 8.7 kilometers long when completed, and will serve as an access road to Talisay, Daet and Mercedes. Citizens and tourists embrace the boulevard by having long drive, fitness walking and jogging. This time, the place is much appreciated because of the amenities added on the vicinity of the tourist destination. As of now, the President Cory Aquino Boulevard is known as the longest boulevard in the Philippines.

For Daeteños, it is such an honor to have a well-known tourist destination and another tourist spot at the same place. Happily, from a tourist destination springs a twin of progress. May these two havens – Bagasbas Beach and President Aquino Boulevard will make a big step for the tourism of the province. And now, as I walk in the middle of the boulevard, I find myself in a serene place. Roads are not always dangerous; it is a way for a long journey. As I see the alluring beach beyond me, I step on its stretch with glamour. On its finest, I am in the extension of happiness and tranquility. Haven.

Angel in Blue Jeans BY EMILLE LYNA A. PANOTES

When I was 10, I asked my father, “

Dad, can I vote?” He replied, “No, you are still young my dear.” Curious. I was wondering about the people I can see in every television commercial wearing yellow, red, green and other colors. They always make promises and pledges, smile in every photo, and they always flash their videos helping other people. I remember, I sung their jingle, collects pamphlets and I am always happy when someone places their posters in front of our house. And, I was wondering what is the blue violet mark in the finger of the people after going to precincts, and they always bet who will win and lose. When I was 13, I asked my father again, “Dad, can I vote?” He replied, “No, soon my dear.” I am still curious. I understand that campaigns are important for politicians. With my eyes circling around the surrounding, I see how much they give just to be recognize by the citizens. Back in my memory, I remember when my father took me to an event where politicians gave their speeches. After processing what I heard, I asked myself, why do they promise many things? And, why do they use name calling for other politicians that in the competition? When I was 16, I asked my father again,

“Dad, can I vote?” He replied, “Soon.” I am wide awake on what is happening to my country. Philippines needs transformative leaders that will make a way to a more progressive country. People should choose a leader which is in action and not on potion promises. A leader that will be a good example to everyone especially to the youth, known as the hope of the future generations. A leader who knows how to respect human rights, different races and religions, knows how to use and resource government funds and critical on making decisions specifically if it is aligned to the growth of the country. People should choose wisely so that we can crown a leader that have sense of responsibility, sincerity, honesty, with nationalism, transparent in words and actions, reliable, wise, neglects corruption and knows what our country really needs for its sustainability.

Dear Valentine,

they had.

Two days after valentines, is the most awaited event to every Grade 9 and Grade 10 students of La Consolacion College of Daet. This is the day where they can’t forget all the memories

16th of February, year 2018 — this is the day where my thoughts and beliefs about the whole duration of my high school life changed. Funny it may seem but I’m just an ordinary girl who doesn’t care about the looks and fancy things but a lot more of being a girl who always thinks what’s the best for her life. Until this day comes, and I have nothing to do but to be pretty as well. And that night I feel like I’m the most beautiful girl in the crowd wearing a very elegant royal blue

cocktail dress with silver linings, a silver heels, and to compliment my look I brought with me the grace and confidence I need to be able to look beautiful like others. Well it doesn’t matter after all because for me what matters most is the memories and the smiles I can see in everyone’s faces. As I heard the song “Lavenders dilly dilly” and “Can I have this dance” you know Valentine, it gives me goosebumps because it really felt so magical and it’s for the first time. And it is the time for us to dance, even though our dance wasn’t that perfect giving its own flaws and imperfections but that’s okay I’ve got to dance with the person I like so much. But it’s a secret valentine don’t you ever tell anyone. And Valentine, I just wanted to tell you that I’m really happy that night and I hope everyone does. It leaves us good moments and opportunity to talk to anyone we doesn’t know that much. That night thought us how to be elegant and formal in terms of treating a girl, because it is really cool seeing the guys asking the girls “May I have this dance” and returning them back to their seats is just so good to look at. Lastly, that night made me realized

that there’s a lot of reasons to be happy. Be with it the person you like or your friends that make you happy all the time. Yet it also made me sad thinking that someday we’re all have to take different paths and gonna see each other after so many years. But still we had to live our lives to the fullest. Go with the flow and be thankful for the people who comes and go to your life. Oh my poor Valentine, as much as I want to tell you everything that happened that night I don’t have much time because I still have to do my research paper plus review our lessons because after the spectacular event is the hell weak for the students. But don’t worry valentine, there’s always a next time and I believe as we see each other you’ll be happy as well. I miss you so much and if I could just turn back the time maybe you’ll be right here by my side and I’m proud to tell anyone that you’re my best friend. Take care of yourself and remember that I’m only miles away and you can talk to me anytime.

pUPUKLO sEAWEED; aN Anti- cancer aGENT BY KIANNA PATRICE R. QUILESTINO

Nowadays, technology is at its best when it comes to medical purposes especially in curing cancer. By the use of technology, we are able to conduct chemotherapy which is known as a method to lessen the cancer cell inside the body. It melts and kill the cancer cells in a certain area of the body. But how about natural procedures like the food we eat? In the modern world, we are still lucky to have these so called ‘Pupuklo Seaweeds’ found in the sea of Aklan, Ilocos, Iloilo and Cagayan. It is only seasonally available. Mostly in March and when the sea is low tide. It is de-

scribed as jelly-like based on its physical appearance. These seaweeds are known to be a good cure for goiter, provides iodine in our body and other vitamins. It is also a best source for dietary supplements. Moreover, only this February 27,2019, Ma. Joreina Therese A. Blanco, a writer of Philippine Information Agency wrote an article about Pupuklo Seaweeds as an anti-cancer agent. Pupuklo Seaweeds are proven to be an anti-cancer agent. Based on the study conducted by Blanco, the students of University of Santo Tomas conducted a research and they

discovered that it contains polysaccharides that fights cancer cells and enzymes that spreads. Polysaccharides are carbohydrates that provides support for our cells and storing energy. However, too much Pupuklo can also be bad for the health since it contains iodine but when used in a proper way, it will help our skin not to age that fast and to give glow in our skin. Right now, these seaweeds still don’t have too much reviews about its effect in our body but time will come that this will be a phenomenon for cancer patients and people who are aiming to be healthy.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” - Matthew 7:7 Waiting is a difficult task to fulfill. You need to spend minutes to as long as years just to get what you want. Waiting for the perfect person is somewhat difficult for other people. Likewise, there are also many reasons as to why we wait. It may be because of conflicts--the person you like might be taken or reserved. The main component in loving a person is waiting. Having a relationship has a process to take and that process challenges us whether how strong we are to fight for our love and for what we want. But after all that, is it worth it?

“Loving can hurt, sometimes.” - Ed Sheeran Love takes time and patience. You might fall for someone then wait to be loved back. At first, you may want to prove yourself to be worthy but even if you are, maybe it’s just not meant to be. You’ll want to see the person, wait for him/her at his/her classroom, or even notice your posts in social media. Sometimes we become desperate and do silly things, say writing an article like this just to have even a little bit of that person’s time. However, you may come to a point that you already feel tired. You’ll come to realize that the person you want will never be yours. You’ll realize that even if you exert effort and wait, you’ll never get the appreciation and recognition from the person. Being independent in love is to focus more in self-love, hoping for someone better, and waiting for the perfect time. If it’s not for you, then it’s not for you. God has many plans and you just need to wait. From my experience, it always ends with myself asking, “Is it worth waiting?” We should always look at the silver lining by focusing on how to be better and to achieve things by ourselves. We should also remember the people who are important to our life. Love is like a line to buy tickets in a movie theatre; when it’s sold out, you’ll think that it’s just a waste of time. While waiting, we should be productive as well as give importance to self-care. Love will come to you if you wait. But if it fails, just be patient and strong. There are many things in life that’s hard to get. Waiting is a both a test of time and patience. After all the waiting, you may receive that grand prize or accept defeat and try again. Life is not unfair, take note of that. You just need to exert effort on things that is worth your time and what is for your best interest.

Boys. We boys don’t get butterflies, we get fireworks. We don't have you on our minds 24/7, rather, in our hearts. Often, we wait for you to go online, sometimes, you simply being online makes our heart skip a beat even when we don't talk. Whenever you do talk to us though, we make that half-smile, a grin. It means we're happy but trying our best to hide it though often failing to do so. We do miss you all the time. If the situation permits, we'd spend all our time with you. We don’t just think of the little things you say, we think of every word, panicking at every single word, trying to decipher what it really means, trying hard to read between the lines. We could love you in a million ways and once we do start loving you, there's no turning back for us. No matter how hard we try, we will always love the girl that has touched our hearts. Us men when in love think of that girl first thing in the morning and think of the same girl last thing at night. Whenever we see a couple, our thoughts immediately jump to that girl and put ourselves in their place. Every single detail about her is loved; the way she talks, walks, and speaks. The sound of her voice, her laughter, the sparkle in her eyes, her demure smile, the way she dresses, that cute face she makes when she closes her eyes, and the way she says our name that makes our heart explode with a mirth, a simple act that no one else can replicate. A man in love with a girl is no simple thing, though ladies stereotype us as simple. Simple, a man in love is not. No. He will be unpredictable, he will be persistent, stubborn, and given the circumstances- if it means carrying you from one side of the world to the other to win your heart- a man in love would. He would act as a martyr, giving his all yet asking for almost none. He will show you how to appreciate the beauty of the world in a thousand ways, and then he will tell you how much he appreciates your beauty in a thousand ways more. A MAN IN LOVE IS NO SIMPLE THING.

When I was called upon to recite, I solemnly reeled off almost word for word what the book said. Our instructor, Sir Gonzales, looked at me somewhat quizzically and asked, "Do you understand this theory?" It was a bad moment for me but I did not hesitate in replying, "No, sir." The class was very quiet and still. I braced myself and waited. And then the slow words of the professor: "Neither do I, Ms. Claire. Section dismissed."

BY JESSA MARIE B. CORNITO A familiar graduation song was playing as you heard your name being called while you slowly walk towards the stage. For a minute, you take a moment to glance at your surroundings, letting all these scenarios flash into your mind and reminiscing all the memories you made here for one last time. After the ceremony, you and your friends decide to take a group photo, you smile widely in front of the camera. As you were about to click the shutter, a familiar person catches your attention, A big man mouthing "I’m so proud of you" at you. You couldn’t believe he was there. There's a woman I like for almost 4 years now. I fell in love with her at first sight. Her voice, eyes, lips, smile — everything about her is just perfect. I follow and like her social media updates religiously. I knew her family tree. I even memorized her wants and hates because of this undestiny. “Are you afraid to be rejected in these past 4 years?” No. “But why don't you confess already?” I'm afraid of God.

BY NATHAZSHA ALEXIZ C. MEJIA The day was ending by the time it was your turn to pray in the chapel. Everyone else had already left, whilst you were stuck to pray on your own in the middle of the dimly-lit room. You suddenly felt a quick yet gentle breeze brush past your skin as if someone were to walk past and knelt beside you, making you flinch. You, having your eyes closed, were quite confused at the fact that someone was still inside when you sure of the fact that you were the last one to arrive and the only one here. "A sinner like you shouldn't be allowed to study in a Catholic School.", they whispered right in your ear. You suddenly opened your eyes to look beside you, only to realize that no one was there but you.

There are a lot of Athletic delegations across the Philippines that lacks the support of their local government. These delegations represent their province and the athletes that compete in different games carry its name wherever they go. They will not be able to achieve their goals with hard work and perseverance alone. The support coming from their government is also behind their success. So what happens when the financial support becomes unstable and insufficient? The Division of Camarines Norte have been consistently participating in the Palarong Bicol every year, and sends their best athletes to compete in the Regional Games. Camarines Norte have been placing 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th these past few years. It was a long time ago that the province became the Champion for the Palarong Bicol. Is it because the athletes aren’t strong and incompetent enough to win? Or is it because there are a lot of hindrance that affects their success? Ever since, these kinds of competitions weren’t given more attention because they prioritize other government matters. If these events were given importance and enough support, it would help in expanding the standard of their own province in terms of sports and to expose its name locally or internationally. One of the barriers that affects the delegation is the unavailability and shortage of some

amplify facilities that is needed for the athletes’ training. The lack of the facilities and equipment, they won’t be able to train properly. Since the government weren’t capable of providing it to the athletes, it might reflect to their performance. Not all athletes depend everything on the support coming from the government. Some of them can afford the equipments that they need and some of them cannot. There are many families that cannot financially support their own children to participate in the competition even if they have the potential to be an athlete, thus, they depend on the government alone. Even so, the support that they need should always be equally given to them. In the Palarong Bicol, allowances are given to each of the participants and it was not sufficient for their personal needs and the materials that they use during the competition. The Division of Camarines Norte gives support but aren’t enough to sustain the athletes’ necessities. The athletes train hard to contribute and bring the name of their division, so if the government support have been successfully managed, then everyone’s hard work will be paid off and very much achieved.
