Armnatt come from Portugal and are a trio composed by Tenebrous on drums, Murmuhr on the guitar and Velnius on vocals! Playing raw cold Black Metal they released until today a split tape with Bosnian band Tmärrdhë in 2013, that was out through the Portuguese label Black Gangrene Productions limited to 100 copies! Their part of the split brings three tracks, ‘Darkness Embrace’, ‘All in Ruins’ and ‘Black Moon’ that show a non compromise raw Black Metal! Meanwhile their debut album already has title, ‘Darkness Times’ and it’s expected still during the first trimester of 2014 by the hands of Altare Productions! line as the split or it has a different approach? Velnius- Darkness Times: it says all. This was before the Split that only by a matter of circumstances came out first. MH- You are going to play at the Extreme Metal Attack that is going to its eleventh edition, how do you see the evolution of this underground fest? Velnius- All our members have already played there but representing other entity or entities. Extreme Metal Attack has evolved a lot. Each time is better. MH- Well, we have reached the end, the last words are yours... Velnius- See you there!
MH- Hail guys, how is everything? Everything ready for your live premiere? Velnius- Hail, we are ready. MH- Little is known about you but I think it's by option, however we would like to know how it all began? When and why came the urge to form ARMNATT? Velnius- It isn't possible to say exactly when did ARMNATT begin, maybe we can consider that it started with some recordings made by me in tape some years ago. MH- Last year you released through Black Gangrene Productions a split with Bosnian TMÄRRDHË, how did the possibility of releasing this split appeared? Did you get any feedback on how was this release received by the underground? And what do you think about the end result of this split? Velnius- It is an honour to have this split from Black Gangrene Productions with TMÄRRDHË. Lately the band has been contacted to acquire the split but all we had are already gone. MH- Meanwhile the release of your first album 'Darkness Times' by Altare Productions has been announced, can you say how many tracks will it have? Was the deal with Altare easy for the CD release? Velnius- 10 tracks and we are glad it will be released by Altare Productions. MH- Your sonority is described as Black Metal, is that enough for you? Some see it just as a musical subgenre, other as a lifestyle and for you, what is Black Metal? Velnius- Black Metal. MH- In a time where at the Black Metal scene many bands choose to sing in our mother language you chose english, have you ever thought about writing in Portuguese or you never thought about that? Any special reason or they just didn't sound well in Portuguese? Velnius- The tracks that were released and the ones that are coming out where written a few years ago, but it was always like this and it will always be. MH- When it comes to lyrics what influences you when writing? Is 'Darkness Times' on the same 3
Interfectum are a Spanish Black/Death Metal band formed in 2009 by Impius Prophet of the Astral Paths on bass, Imprecator of Christian Graves on guitar and Preacher of the Demonic Spheres on vocals! They released their debut demo in 2012 entitled ‘Sepulchral Rites’ with seven tracks of a cavernous and mighty Black/Death Metal! In March they will premiere in Portuguese soil in the XI edition of the Extreme Metal Attack! MH- Ave brothers of Interfectum, how are things going in the graveyard? Everything ready for the invasion on Lusitanian lands? I - Ave Komrade, things are going fine in the graveyard, we are just finishing our new three litanies getting inspired by alcohol fueled possessions and primigenial cults. We are quite excited for our first ritual on Lusitanian lands. MH- You were formed in 2009, so how did you three get together for the first time? Is Interfectum your first experience has musicians or you have prior ones but prefer to maintain them out of the picture? I - Interfectum is our first project so far, we met while our blood was young. Imprecator was the youngest one, he was only 15 years old , Impius and myself were 18. We all met at local “metal” bar. While everybody was wearing all types of shitty metal t-shirts we were always wearing old school metal t-shirt like Venom, Motorhead, Slaughter, Slayer so we started speaking and that way took us to a very strong partnership . We started playing at an old garage doing some Beherit. Mayhem and Bathory covers. After the rehearsal was done we usually drank a bottle of cheap vodka or whisky while we listened to some blasphemous and unpleasant metal. MH- Although the band members are only three you have a guest member playing the drums in the demo as well as playing live, so how did you invite him? Is he a friend of you guys? Why is he not a full time member? I - Yeah he is friend of us since 2010, after our previous drummer returned to his homeland we decided to take him at drums. He'll be a full member after he gets baptized through a blood, alcohol and drug covenant. MH- You guys all go under very big pseudonyms as Impius Prophet of the Astral Paths, so what do these pseudonyms mean to each one of you? Why did you choose to remain anonym? I - We chose to take those types of pseudonyms to maintain the tradition of unholy black/death bands as Blasphemy, Black Witchery, Beherit, Archgoat,Proclamation. We got baptized under those names during a very crazy night when we did take some visionary drugs mixed with alcohol at a local and small cemetery. All of us had a different experience, being those experiences the reason of each name. This way of getting re-baptized was inspired by Bathory's song Necromancy. MH- The demo ‘Sepulchral Rites’ was your first work released in 2012, how was the feedback from the media and fans to it? I - The demo was limited to 66 copies, so I think you should have sold them pretty fast, right? Yeah it was sold-out very fast, but Down With The Most High did a great re-edition of the demo, so there are more copies out there. We don't have any news yet of what the deathcult maniacs think about the demo we hope that they find it disgusting irreverent and poisonous. MH- Meanwhile the demo was released through Down With the Most High, how did that happen? It was released with pro-tapes and pro cover, so satisfied with how they treated ‘Sepulchral Rites’? I - Yeah, Dani did a great job as always, the first edition was a completely mess but DWTMH released a badass edition, we are proud of the demo. This edition makes justice with the rituals contained inside the tape. MH- You play a chaotic and fast Black Metal reminding me some of the early works of Blasphemy or Beherit, so who has inspired you when starting Interfectum? How do you see nowadays the Black Metal scene? I - We are mainly and strongly influenced by bands as: Blasphemy, Von, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Slayer, Slaughter, Sarcofago, Abhorer. And also by some actual bands as: Proclamation, Black Witchery, Nocturnal Blood, Teitanblood, Truppensturm.... Well Black Metal scene sucks in general, nowadays it's filled with faggotry bands who proclaim suicide depression weakness.... and that king of bullshit, but there are also a lot of bands that worth it . Those bands keep the black flame of black metal tradition alive.
4
MH- Lyrics wise, what inspires you when writing for Interfectum? Does all the shit and hypocrisy that the Roman-Catholic church did serve as fuel for your fire? I - Well, we are inspired by some occult texts we read some time ago, such as The Salomon Keys, Kybalión, and other philosophical issues. Impius and myself(Preacher) study philosophy at the university so we are in touch with a lot of interesting issues that deal with occult arts, ancient Greek& Vedic&Sumerian traditions, Satanism, heathen cults and stuff. At first , our soul was filled with hate against the church and Christian people, but after we understood that the church makes an important role, it's the best way to recognize weak souless people. Christian people deserve to be under the slavery of god, it's their fate. That people will be forever condemned by their stupidity and our function must be not to help them to get out of that black hole, or to destroy the origin of their alienating lives but to laught at them and mock them. We must show our supremacy over them, it's a need Christianity to exist in the way it helps us to recognize strong moral people from weak ones. MH- How have been the live appearances for you guys? Do you feel comfortable on a stage sharing your music with complete strangers? I - Yeah, when we get on a stage we get in a kind of trance and try to join all the audience in a sort of liturgy. Yeah, totally. MH- You’re going to play in the XI Extreme Metal Attack in Benavente, this is your debut in Portuguese lands, right? What do you think of this kind of festivals made for the Underground? I - Yeah, we are still surprised and very grateful that you guys invited us to play at Portugal. We think that it's the only way to keep this kind of music alive. MH- We’ve reach the end.. The final words are yours… I - We want to salute all Lusitanian maniacs and all those bands with whom we’ll share stage. All those irreverent spirits who maintain the old anima of evilness and primitive cults alive, those who stay on the true way raising their fists against heaven and keeping their heads high. We also thank all the people who will make this festival possible. Be prepared for the 21st March liturgy! THE SKIES WILL WHINE ANGELBLOOD
War Master is a Portuguese trio of Raw Black Metal formed in 1998 by Impius on guitar, Arcanus on drums and Maleficus on vocals! They debuted a year later with three demos, ‘The Black Horde Reigns Supreme’, ‘Eternal War’ e ‘Born From Chaos’ and in 2000 they released the fourth one called ‘Only Dead is Real – War Master’s Tribute to Dead’! After this demo the band entered a sabbatical period that only end in 2011 with the release of ‘Heritage’ their fifth demo! They are also back to stages and you can see that on the XI Extreme Metal Attack! MHHail Impius, how is everything? How are things with War Master? WM- Hail Metal Horde! Everything is chaotic here! War Master isn't in a very productive phase, unfortunately we do not have much time given the myriad of stuff me and my brother are involved in, but there may be some news this year. MH- The band started around 1998, can you tell us how it all started? Was it a common desire from you three to start a project to identify yourselves with? WM- It is true, 16 years have passed... War Master begun as a side project to Inner Helvete. We
wanted to create something in a more traditional Black Metal vein, we already had lots of ideads for tracks and we decided to ask Maleficus to join us. Funny is that War Master overwhelmed Inner Helvete and soon later we released a couple of tracks. MH- On the next year you edited three demos, it was quite a fertile period, rigth? What motivated you during the creative process? How did the national underground reacted to your offerings? WM- Yes, it was a very fertile period, today we say that at that time, if we wanted, we could have released a tape a week. We were 5
motivated by our desire to spill the hatred that we felt towards humanity, towards the hypocrisy than runs the world. I'm not sure how did the underground react... At that time we were very isolated, and the reactions would arrive mainly by reviews in fanzines, and these, as newsletters or radio programs played a major part in the spreading of what was done, in a time when you still wrote letters and did tape-trading. Very different times, and we were one of the few bands in the countryside. MH- Then in 2000 you released a tribute work to Dead (Mayhem's vocalist) why did you do it? What do you think
was his relevance for the Black Metal Scene? WM- “Only DEAD is Real” was our tribute to the individual that incorporated what we consider to be the essence of Black Metal, “I am a mortal but am I human?”. The 'Scene' wouldn't be the same without him, for sure, and I dare to say that after him it wasn't no more. The majority of Black Metal went on roads not supposed to travel by... After some time there was a blooming of reality basedunfunded clichés and an ad nauseam duplication of superficial, worn flags. MH- After that demo eleven years of silence, were you busy with other projects or you needed some time for reflection? Have you ever thought about ending this project? WM- At a certain point we dedicated ourselves more to Inner Helvete and the time was scarce to embrace all projects. War Master was left standing by until we could give it the appropriate attention but we never thought about ending the band, especially because there are still many ideas to work on and the inspiration has not left us. MH- In 2011 you returned with 'Heritage' out by your own label Orion Productions, has was the underground's reaction to your comeback? WM- There wasn't much promotion done to this release so there weren't many reactions and, either way, we never cared much for that. I can't tell you for sure how many copies we sold, because I wasn't the one dealing with that, but I am pretty sure they are almost (if not) sold out. MH- The demo bring a track called 'A New Era Begins', can this be the motto for the future of War Master? Comparing this demo with the previous ones what are the major differences? Is it a more mature band? WM- The track 'A New Era Begins' has in fact to do with the band's
return, but it also represents a manifest and a fact. It is undoubtedly a more mature band, but the main difference between this release and the others is in the logistics, in the material we used. It is impossible to compare our current equipment to the one we had back then. This inspiration and spirit that we put upon our work remains equal.
MH- Lyric wise, does 'Heritage' keep the direction of the previous demos or eleven years after you see the world in a slightly different way? What do songs like 'Heritage' or 'Enslaving the World' are about? WM- The lyrics are generally around the same direction of the previous works, but the world is substantially different, so the way we see it has changed. It would be impossible to keep seeing it the same way since things change and there is no turning back. 'Heritage' is about keeping in track of a pathway that at a certain point we decided to chase sticking faithfully to our deepest principles. 'Enslaving the World' refers to the need to destroy the absurd and decrepit world in which we live and rebuilding it towards our ideals. MH- You are a part of the XI Extreme Metal Attack, has a member of the public, how have you seen this festival evolve? WM- Extreme Metal Attack is, since its beginning, a fest entirely dedicated to the more underground extreme Metal, it was a pioneer and it still makes a difference. It stands out by the dedication of those who make it possible, it has grown throughout the years but it still holds on the same ideals, being stage for both recent and consolidated bands. It is an 6
institution by its own and it will always keep and increase the quality that we have been used to. MH- Well, we have reached the end of this short conversation, leave our readers with your final words for now... WM- Thank you Nuno and Inês for this interview. Keep up your excellent and hard work! MAY THE WORLD DIE...
Demonomancy is a Black/Death Metal Italian trio formed in 2008 by Sin Desecration on bass, Black Gods Triumph on drums and Witches Whipping on guitar and vocals! Two years after they presented their first demo entitled ‘Bearer of Black Arts’ with six tracks of Black Metal corrupted by Evil and Death Metal forces! In 2011 the North American label Nuclear War Now! Productions released the 12’MLP ‘Rites of Barbaric Demons’ also with six tracks and a year after the tape ‘The Premonition’ with two tracks, that like the name says gave a little ‘smell’ of what would come in the near future! And what arrived was the debut album ‘Throne of Demonic Proselytism’ that was out in July of 2013 through NWN!, with seven tracks of pure infernal profanation! Now time to see them for the first time in Portugal on the XI Extreme Metal Attack! MH- Hi there, how are you?? What’ve you been up to lately with Demonomancy? Hails, here Witches Whipping (guitar/vocals) to answer your questions. We're rehearsing steadily since our last profanation in Madrid at Ritual de Odio y Muerte II, now we're preparing to desecrate Lithuania at Darkness Descends II (with GRAVE MIASMA), Portugal at Extreme Metal Attack XI and Italy at Night of Recrucifixion (with GOD MACABRE, BESTIAL RAIDS, MAVETH). We hope the near future will bring more opportunities abroad. MH- To start present the band to whom is reading this! Now, Demonomancy can be defined as ‘Divination using the aid of demons to reveal information’ or to the third demo from Finish godz Beherit, so where did you inspire yourselves to get the name of the band? Do you like what Beherit delivered to the Black Metal scene and history? DEMONOMANCY is methodical chaos, formed with the will to create suffocating, monolithic, anxious Metal of Death about occult forces and cryptic cults. About our moniker, we wanted a name able to evoke feelings of obscurity, deep spirituality and at the same time a name able to reveal our musical legacy, so both of your assumptions are correct. BEHERIT is one of my favorite acts of all time and one of the main influences in DEMONOMANCY, we used to play Witchcraft cover in a lot of past live rituals. MH- You were formed in 2008 had you prior experiences to Demonomancy or this was your first one? How did you three souls get together for the first time? How were the first
rituals? Nobody of us had other experiences before. Me and Black Gods Triumph (drums) have been playing together since the age of 12. Musically and humanly, we grew up together. When we approached Metal of Death, we started playing covers of our favorite acts and after a little time we wrote the first songs. We met Sin Desecration in 2009 (bass), who had our same passion for evil noisy metal, and a great friendship was born. This fact contributed to create unique aura and feeling in our musical activity. I think this it's a very uncommon quality in bands nowadays. Nothing has changed between us since the very first rehearsal, as we consider DEMONOMANCY an intangible entity to be worshipped that lives through our frustration.
MH- ‘Bearers of Black Arts’ your first demo was released in 2010 through yourselves, how did the Underground react to your first work? What do you recall mostly from those recordings? We pressed few copies and we sent many promos to zines and labels. A repress of the demo was done by RAWBLACKULT Prod., a bolivian label who spread very well our name, so the best feedback came from South America. That years were very chaotic, we rehearsed only from night till dawn. We wanted to sound more 7
cacophonic and perverse as possible. MH- A year later you released through Nuclear War Now! Productions the EP ‘Rites of Barbaric Demons’ so how did the deal between you and them happen? The relation seems to be good as they also released the next two releases from Demonomancy, so how’s working with Yosuke? We recorded the EP and sent promos to labels, Yosuke was the first to answer, saying that he was completely blown away by our music. He's enthusiast and professional in his work, so it's always a pleasure dealing with him.
MH- One of those releases was your first full length ‘Throne of Demonic Proselytism’ out in July of 2013, so after these first six months, how has been the feedback? Are you satisfied with the final result of the album? The album brought us very good attention and great live occasions. The feedback is inferior to the “Rites...” one because now Bestial Black Metal of Death is not trendy anymore, but it doesn't matter. We are completely satisfied of the result: I wouldn't change anything in the music or in the lyrics as they
express exactly the message we wanted to send. The production is perfect, massive and rough exactly how we had it in mind. Manuele of Marà Cave Studios is a genius of sound engineering. The LP/CD graphics are sumptuous and fit precisely the concept; every physical detail of the album contributes to the feeling of holding something special. MH- Lyrics wise what do you want to express with songs as ‘Baptism of Serpents Conceived in Martyrdom’, ‘At the Great Gates to Black Doom’ or ‘Impious Revelation (Bestiality Prevails)’? Sometimes they seem like some obscure Satanic rituals, is it what they are about? The lyrics you mentioned aren't about Satanism, but those of “Bearers...” and “Rites” could fit that theme along with Occultism, Black Magic and every kind of Ritual or Ceremony. We're currently working on a two-album-concept called “The Heptagrammaton Dualism”, of which “Throne of Demonic Proselytism” is the first chapter. This album is about a cryptic cult with its accurate rites (songs 1, 4 and 7), hierarchy (songs 2 and 6), believers (songs 3 and 5) and, above all, an omniscient cruel God (song 4). Every song represents a chronological/conceptual phase and, in turn, every phase has a name: speaking about the songs you mentioned, “Baptism of Serpents” is the Convocation of the Caustic Beasts, sacred animals worshipped by the clergy; “Impious Revelation (Bestiality Prevails)” is the Inferior Vision of God by a mortal before his conversion; “At the Great Gates to Black Doom” is the Superior Vision of God by the same mortal after his conversion.
MH- Most of your cover works has been done by Roberto Toderico, is ‘Throne of Demonic Proselytism’ cover also from him or you have chosen another artist? Do you think the artist captured what you intended for
the cover? The cover has been drawn by the wise hand of the polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (VOMITOR, DARKTHRONE, VADER, ABSU etc.). We asked him to include every phase of the concept in the cover and he done it perfectly with his unique style. We're completely satisfied about Zbigniew's work, he captured perfectly the atmosphere of our music.
MH- You have played a lot of gigs some outside Italy, so how is to be able to share your live desecrations with people around the world? You played in 2012 in the NWN! Fest III in Berlin alongside a great bill that included Rotting Christ, Sabbat, Dead Congregation or Blasphemy, how was to share the stage with so many great bands? Every Ritual is always different, we try to push our boundaries and create a particular aura on stage. We want to create apocalyptic chaotic moments and immediately after a contrasting hypnotic passages. The NWN! Fest was great, I'll always remember those days as some of the few where I felt alive and I'm glad we're going to play at the 2014 edition as well. MH- You are going to play in the XI Extreme Metal Attack in Benavente in March, how did happen the chance to play for the first time in Portugal? Do you know anything about it? Blasphemator of HELLDPROD asked us to play at the fest at good conditions and we accepted. I don't know so much about Portuguese underground., but DECAYED is very good. We already shared the stage with INTERFECTUM (spa) and they slay...very good to know they'll join the black mass of EMA XI! MH- We’ve reach the end, thank you for having us, see ya in March.. Leave all with your final thoughts by now… 8
See you in Benavente HELL.. hails to the Portuguese underground. Demons are evoked, the Sun is obscured, the candles of black doom still shine on the THRONE OF DEMONIC PROSELYTISM

Infra is a Portuguese band of unkown origin, members or date of formation! The band has one track in a Soundcloud page and little more is known about them! They have a release to be out but the release date is unknown! If you want to know more about them be on the XI edition of the Extreme Metal Metal Attack in Benavente! MH- Hail Infra, how are things? Is it cold in there? EN – Busy preparing the first ritual. MH- You are a fairly unknown project and there is little information about you, how do you manage to keep this project anonymous in this era where information is shared at the speed of light? Can you tell us how it started? EN – Infra is not an anonymous project, that is simply information that bears no importance. Whoever goes to our live performances will see us, but we do not see that as relevant. This project was born from one of our members in 2012, motivated by an encounter with the Abyss of the mind. MH- Your sonority seems to drink from old School Black/Death Metal, is this how you would define your sound or you rather not be attached to a label? What did influence you when creating Infra? EN – One could say that is the foundation of our sound, even though it transcends it. It is simply the best medium to convey the atmosphere and message we want. MH- Are you recording something this moment for a future release? Can you give us any inside tip about what is coming out and by whom? Or is it a well kept secret? EN – We are currently recording our first two tracks to release as a 7” EP. The label will be announced when the time comes. MH- Lyrics wise what do you want to show the world with your music? EN – Most lyrics draw inspiration from personal visions, from trips through unknown reality tunnels that reflect the infinite amount of perspectives this Universe has to offer. Others are tributes to the gifts of Life, Sex and Death. MH- The concert at XI Extreme Metal Attack is your first right? What can the people that are going to see you? EN – Yes, it will be our first. Regarding the second question, not even we know. MH- Concerning Extreme, what is your opinion about this festival that is keeping the underground live throught the years? EN – Some of us have been attending the festival for some time. It is a salutary initiative that keeps the traditional flame alive. MH- Well it is all for now, the last words are yours... EN – See you at Extreme.
Scarificare is a Black Metal band formed in Oporto in 2006 by Crusher on bass & vocals and Quetzalcoatl on guitars former members of Wrath and Serpent Lore, and Sothis on drums with the purpose of playing extreme Metal inspired by all the cosmic forces, on the knowledge of ancient religions and therefore in them! In the beginning of 2007 Inverno on bass joins the band leaving Crusher totally focused on the vocals and lyrics! After some live shows the band recorded its first demo-tape called ‘Sulphurous Wrath’ released by Skull Productions in 2008! In that same year Sothis leaves the band giving his place to Njord on the drum kit! They then enter the compilation ‘Lusitanian Dark Horde II’ with the exclusive track ‘Burning Abyss’! In 2009 the band enters the studio to record their debut album entitled ‘Perpetual Decline’ released by them in 2010! After some more live shows in Portugal and Spain, Crusher leaves and Scarificare remained as a trio with Njord on drums, Inverno on bass and Quetzalcoatl on guitar & vocals! Last year the Portuguese label Hellprod released their second album entitled ‘Postulado’ that ghad very good reviews! So time now for seeing them playing live in the XI Extreme Metal Attack! 9
MH-Hail Quetzalcoatl, how is everything? Grab a bear and let's start this! What is your soundtrack for this? S - Hails! Today's mood makes me choose Summoning with the album Minas Morgul! To go with it, I'd rather have a whisky! Let's start! MH- Your history begins in 2006 time when you got together. Did you and Crusher came from a fruitful cooperation in previous experiences like Serpent Lore and Wrath? Do you remember how this new idea started? And how were the first rehearsals as Scarificare? S - In the beginning of 2006, Crusher and Sothis had no active project. They went out on one night for drinks and thought about starting a band. They had no guitarist to start this project so they invited me! Crusher had already played with me in other bands and Wrath was stopped due to our drummer drop out. Scarificare was just Crusher in the bass, Sothis in the drums and me in vocals and guitar. Some tracks that we composed with this line-up came out later in the demo-tape Sulphurous Wrath already with Inverno in the bass. Crusher dedicated exclusively to the vocals. The aura in the rehearsal room was amazing! The trips to the gigs were also memorable! The fruit of this friendship has revealed itself in the studio, for the recording of the I album.
MH- The band line-up has had some setbacks and nowadays you are the only one left from the beginning, can we thus see Scarificare as your conception? Who is with you in the band
today? S - The line up has had some changes throughout the years. Sothis was the first to leave the band, giving place to Bellerophon, that later gave his place to our current drummer Njord. After Inverno left the band, for personal reasons, several musicians have passed by Scarificare. Regrettably no bass player was in the band for long. Fortunately, before the recordings of album II, Inverno participated in the composing process and recordings even from a distance and he returned to the band. Crusher left the band before the recording of 'Postulado' and I took over the vocals. When it comes to conception the band is not mine only, even though I am the oldest member. Today, I proudly share the hordes with Njord and Inverno.
MHYour first demo 'Sulphurous Wrath' appeared in 2008 released by Skull Productions, how were the underground's reactions? How do you see those tracks today? S - The reaction were positive, but we could have done a lot more to promote it. The concerts we gave at that time were what saved it. Scarificare was known throughout the country. I am still satisfied when I hear tracks from Sulphurous Wrath, considering it was our first release! The production captured well the tracks' aura that live performed very well. Considering composition, it was too early to define our sound. In the next albums, you can notice a natural evolution. MH- Your first album 'Perpetual Decline' came out at your own expenses in 2010, did you search for a label or you decided to go for it like that? S - After discussing if it would be 10
best to record a second demo or not, we decided to release a self financed album due to the amount of tracks we already had recorded and were ready. At the time some labels seemed interested but we preferred to be the ones to release it. Unfortunately it wasn't our best option because 'Perpetual Decline' deserved better and bigger broadcasting.
MH- Three years later you release 'Postulado' through Hellprod, how did this partnership started? Are you satisfied with the way they are handling 'Postulado''s release? S - I've known Blaspher for many years now, from many concerts! The partnership with Hellprod for the release of album II started in a Metalpoint gig. We were ready to commit with a label and since we got into agreement we have been working together to achieve the best results! We are very happy with Hellprod in what concerns spreading the word. Never Scarficare had so much feedback and projection in the scene! MH- What has influenced you during 'Postulado''s writing? Comparing it to 'Perpetual Decline' what differences do you find (if there are any at all)? S - We cannot deny that both in album I as in II we are influenced by those bands that were with us from the beginning! Inevitably, throughout our path, we get to know other projects, new ones or ones that we were completely unaware of. These influences blend in the creation of the tracks for album II. The different musical references from each band member gave its contribute. For the
composition of Postulado we tried to analyze each compass, each played note so that the end result pleased us fully. All of us in Scarificare tried to do best and better! That is what makes a difference between 'Postulado' and 'Perpetual Decline'
MH- I've read some really positive reviews about the album throughout the whole world, how do you feel when reading such positive reviews to 'Postulado'? And by the way, when they are negative can you take something ou of them? S - The reviews have been quite good around the world! It is undoubtedly a motivation to keep working hard and bring the band's name farther away. We absorb all the reviews, good or bad and we try to evolve with them. Obviously we can't please everyone, but we can please even more who likes our sound! We feel that our audience understands Scarificare's purpose! However, and when it come to the future, there is also the importance of selling albums... And that reality is complicated nowadays. MH- Lyric wise what did inspire you when you wrote the album? They Kybalion is a 1908 book about the teachings of Hermes Trimegistus, is the music with that name about it? S - Lyrics wise, inspiration came from the ancient Egyptian religions and consequently from Ancient Greece's philosophical schools. One of the lyrics explains the following of these knowledge in the Renaissance and in the Masonic
Orders. To sum up, Postulado is the history of the appearance of the first organisms on Earth, going through the evolution of Man, his relation with Nature and with the All. The world as we know it, with religions, science and prophecies that can end in a snap. Each lyrical theme in this album could have infinite developments! You are correct about Kybalion! The search for knowledge, the fundamental truth, the eternal reason. The energy, the mind and the spirit transcribed in one track!
MH- You have performed as a duo for some concerts with just you in the voice and guitar and Njord in the drums, how was it to perform as a duo? Did you think about adopting this format permanently as a kind of Portuguese Inquisiton? S - After Crusher left, we considered the possibility of me managing both guitar and vocals. I've had that experience in both Wrath and Gorgonian. In the beginning adaptation wasn't easy. However, after some rehearsals, the performance of voice with guitar is better! These challenges are good for the moral and this one is going very well! Moreover, Scarificare gained diversified vocal nuances. Personally, Inquisition is a band that I appreciate and that results very well as a dua. We had inclusively the pleasure of sharing the stage with them in 2011, at Hard Club. However, to Scarificare, live bass is essential! For this reason we have included the bass and some guitar leads samplers that have revealed themselves as a positive element. I think we can pass on to the public the aura of 11
the album, in the strength of a concert. MH-You are going to play at the XI Extreme Metal Attack organized by Hellprod, how have you seen the evolution of this fest throughout the years? S - Extreme is a festival you cannot afford to lose, in Portugal! I've been there in several editions and in some of them as a musician with Wrath and Scarificare! This festival has grown a lot and it is starting to be a reference outside. The atmosphere is always fantastic for both bands and audience! Covilh達 was the place where I most enjoyed playing because the event was open-air and the landscape was phenomenal! I'm looking forward for the XI edition, the bill is excellent! MH-Well, we have reached the end of our conversation. Thank you for your time, last words are yours. S - Thank you for the opportunity to give to know a little more about Scarificare! We are expecting good adherence to the event!
Distillator are a Dutch trio formed in 2013 by Frankie Suim on bass, Angel Eater on drums and Desecrator on guitar and vocals! The band plays a really dirty and aggressive Thrash Metal that you can taste in the three tracks of their self entitled debut EP! Already with some live appearances wait a really fast and deadly gig by the deadly Dutch machine in their premiere in Portugal! MH- Hi guys, how are you? How have these first months of the year been for Distillator? Hi there, thanks for having us. The first couple of months are going very well. A lot of gigs have been played and we’re busy with recording our debut album. It couldn’t be any better! MH- Let’s start this interview with the presentations... Who is behind each weapon of mass destruction in Distillator? Vokills + lead guitars // Desecrator; Bass guitars + backing vokills // Frankie Suim; Drums // Angel Eater;
MHNow how did your adventure begin? I saw some of you had prior experiences and even played together in Profligate, so how did you decide to create Distillator? It was for some old school Thrash in The Netherlands? The musical relationship between Angel Eater and Frankie Suim goes way back. This year, they have been playing 10 years together and Frankie Suim and Desecrator also playing together for years now. With this band we brought some pretty great musicians together and formed Distillator. MH- Speaking of Thrash Metal what does influence you guys more, the Bay Area or the Teutonic way? What were the main influences when you decided to start Distillator? Everybody has different influences.
We have different backgrounds, that goes from Death Metal to Crust/D-beat and back to Thrash Metal.
MH- Last year you released your debut EP with three tracks of a vicious Thrash Metal, so did you have those tracks already done before beginning the band or your chemistry was so intense that you created those tracks as soon as Distillator was born? How does a Distillator song takes birth? Desecrator and Frankie Suim had the idea of starting a new band for many years, but could never find a drummer who fit in. After Angel Eater came back from a journey in Stockholm, he wanted to join forces with us. From that point we started song writing and everything went extremely fast for us. Together, all our inspiration is released and aggressive Thrash Metal is the outcome. MH- How has been the reaction from the media to your debut EP? Did you spread a lot your work? Internet helps that a lot or also has some downsizes? We’re experiencing that people (and media) really liked our debut EP. Webzines also gave us some pretty nice scores, with an average score of 8 (1 - 10). This has made us very happy. MH- Lyric wise what do you want to say in tracks as ‘Bloody Assault’ or ‘Warmonger’? 12
Where do you get inspiration to write a lyric? The deeds of mankind are just enough? Bloody Assault and Warmonger are based on Desecrators own imagination of the ongoing wars in the middle-east, where a lot of rape and destruction is the subject of the day. The lyrics are written to show the big contrast between countries and to show the people that the world isn’t always a pleasant place to be.
MH- How’s a live show from Distillator? I’ve saw that you already played a good bunch of gigs in The Netherlands and even played one gig in Germany, so how’s been those shows? The crowds have embraced the destruction you deliver? We’ve been playing a lot and we feel special and free when we’re playing together on stage. If we feel happy on stage people can expect a show with lots of energy and movement. We play super aggressive and fast Thrash Metal and we’ve been piercing eardrums in The Netherlands, Germany and Finland! Portugal is next and we will destroy the venue! MH- You’re going to debut in Portugal in March in the XI Extreme Metal Attack, so any
idea of what you’ll find here?? What do you think if this type of Underground festivals? I really like the underground festivals (and shows) because that’s the place where you can meet them die-hard fans. It’s a place where you pick up some
awesome records, see truly brutal bands, and meet lots of great people. It’s the first time we are going to Portugal, but we’ve heard some great stories. Hopefully we will experience them as well. MH- Ok we have reach the end of this chat, see ya in March,
now the final words are yours… Check out the festival, and check out and support all bands of the festival because we think they’re all worth watching and supporting! Cheers, and see you!!
"Project of mild and audible music founded in 2006 with the purpose of spreading the gospel Lucifero-Christian among the sheep, goats and other enlightened quadrupeds." This are words by Martelo Negro that before went by the name of Black Hammer and that under that banner released the EP ‘Winds of Carrion’ in 2007 and the singles ‘Sob os Cascos de Satã’ and ‘Bela Lugosi is Dead, Buried and Forgotten’ in 2009! In 2009 the project at that time only by The Beyonder on instruments and vocals, changed to Martelo Negro and released the single ‘Hierofante em Chamas’! Meanwhile Melkor and Asmodeus entered the ranks for the guitars and Bwzyws Narconomikon took the spot behind the drum kit to give shape to the greatest sound devastation possible! A year later Asmodeus left entering for his place Marco Wolfgang aka Thamuz and in 2011 Martelo Negro released their first album called ‘Sortilégio dos Mortos’ that had its first released through the internet waves by Necrosymphonic Entertainment and then in physical format by Luci Dist Prod.! Meanwhile in 2012 a new change with the departure of Bwzywz and the entrance of Maalm for the drums and in 2013 Hellprod released the compilation ‘Antologia Grotesca (MMVI-MMXII)’ in tape with some rarities of the band! This year they are back to Extreme after their passage in 2012 to delight us with their no bullshit Black/Thrash Metal! MH- Hail friend, The Beyonder, how are things with Martelo Negro? Everything ready for the killing on the 22nd? B - Greetings Nuno! Thank you for the interview! Yes, we are ready for absolute Chaos! Apocalypse! The blades are sharp and thirty for virginal Blood! MH- The last time we spoke was around Extreme Metal Attack IX in 2012, what happened to Martelo Negro since then? For the ones that are reading your words for the first time tell us about your record history and who is beside you at Martelo Negro... B - Shortly after our conversation we did a few more gigs and closed the promotion cycle for 'Sortilégio dos Mortos'. As it is already public, Bwzyws left the band in the end of that cycle and meanwhile we closed in our cave to compose our new opus that will be out now. The only
think that we released meanwhile was the compilation 'Antologia Grotesca' in tape, a little stinky analogic gift for the ones that have followed us since the beginning. The horde is the same, except Maalm now replaced Bwzyws, although deep down it is just a return since he is a part of a primitive formation. The remaining thugs are the same. Melkor and Thamuz in the guitars and me in the bass and vocals... MHMeanwhile in 2012, Bwzyws Narcoomikon was upset with my mistake in his name for that year's zine and he left giving place to Arno Maalm that needs little introduction since he is a part of projects as Filii Nigrantium Infernalium or Atentado! How did Malmo entered your ranks? Did you trap him somewhere and made him an irrefusable proposal? 13
B - As I already mentioned before, the comeback of Maalm happens after Bwzyws left. His choice was natural since he is someone we trust entirely and, as it is known, he was by brother in arms in both Grog and the extinct Namek. As soon as Bwzyws left Maalm entered immediately and without hesitation, it was just a return to his own throne... MH- On Christmas day 2013, Hellprod, playing Santa Claus, released a compilation where we can find everything you release with Black Hammer plus some rarities. How did the idea/opportunity to release in tape these tracks appeared? Do you like the old tape format? B - The idea for the compilation appeared because we wanted to join all the old material we had only digitally by Necrosymphonic Entertainment in a physical format. To make it a little bit more
interesting we added some previously unreleased tracks and special versions to this Christmas pack of listenable aberrations. Yes, obviously I enjoy this kind of release in tape format, it is something that still makes sense to me. The tape is a cult object for our generation, as it is vinyl. Of course there is always some nostalgia associated with this kind of releases but I still believe that it is a perfectly valid format, specially for collectors. We will certainly keep on releasing on this format. MH- One of the rarities is the cover of ' Un Dia en ' from the spanish horde Paralisis Permanente, one of the first Gothic Punk Rock bands from those lands, so tell us why this cover and when was it recorded? How did their sound reach your hears? B - The idea to record a theme from this iconic band from the 80's Madrid came from Thamuz that already was familiar with the band's work. After he showed us the theme I had the urge of discovering the remaining musical releases of Paralisis Permanente and then I realized it was a very special band, with a big aura of mysticism around it, this mysticism was fed by the premature untimely death of their leader, the charismatic and genius Eduardo Benavente. We concluded the recording and mixing of that cover on the 30th October 2013, day when Eduardo Benavente would turn 50 if he was still among the living. The weirdest of this is that we had no idea of this until later. Coincidence? There is no such thing... No matter what, it is, above all, a tribute MH- Have you had any feedback regarding the tape? Did the guys from our Underground
receive it with open arms? B - I have no idea, you know? The tape was released in a very very limited edition and as such there are not many who have it. For now the feedback hasn't reached me but I'm not worried, deep down it's just a tape with old themes that are known by our followers. Since it doesn't represent anything extraordinary and new, it is only natural that the feedback isn't huge. MH- Going a little bit farther from Martelo Negro what can you tell us about Black Blood Whorale and Culto Macabro? There was a split already in 2014 with other two projects so go ahead and tell us a little bit mor about these! B - Black Blood Whoracle is my most recent solo project and it's all about fast black metal in the vein of Impaled Nazarene, Beherit, Sarc贸fago, Blasphemy, and so on. It is an escape since it's the kind of sound material that does not fit in Martelo Negro due to the musical vision of the band. It is also a reflection of my personal tastes and a way to channel my anger at the sound level. I think I will record the album this year. As for Cultu Macabro it's the solo project of Melkor, it is also fast and cunning black metal but with a very strong melodic side, reminding us of good old Dissection. Melkor already has the first album recorded, I think he is only arranging some details at the production level. Besides the already mentioned projects, in that split (Plaguespreaders) there is still Bathurzum, a project created by Thamuz that takes care of all the instrumental part and leave the vocals/concept to me, and the enigmatic Ultrasatan that contemplate Charles Sangnoir (La Chanson Noire) and another very mediatic Portuguese personality whose identity cannot be revealed, but I can say that there is no connection to the underground national scene. All these projects came out during a challenge I 14
launched among the mentioned people, that was the creation of four different projects in wich each project would be the personal reflection of what is black metal from the involved individual. The final result was quite satisfying to us and the cd is already available through www.necrosymphonic.com mail-order. The cd can also be acquired directly from us at the gigs of Martelo Negro, Neoplasmmah or La Chanson Noire
MH- Well, 2014 seems to be a year with more Martelo Negro gigs. I've seen another add, where you missing the stages? Martelo Negro works really well live, so where do you feel better, on studio or on stage? B - I love the studio work. it gives me great pleasure the writing and recording of the tracks. I also feel very good when I play live when I figure the ideal conditions to play are gathered (something that doesn't always happen). I like both processes! I cannot tell you what is more fun, whether it is creating the tracks and work on them or to deliver them to a faithful headbanger crowd. Both feelings are extraordinary and, truly, the fuel to keep this running for 20 years now. It is not a job, it is an overwhelming passion with a very strong missionary feeling, that is how we face it! MH- And talking about studio what about a new album /EP/Split/whatever? Anything for 2014? B - Yes! Our new album is coming out in April and it is going to be a vinyl edition. The album will be called 'Equin贸cio Espectral' and it will be the first chapter of a trilogy
called 'AntimatÊria', There is also an upcoming split with a national band, but regarding that I can't, yet, reveal many details. MH- Two years after, here you are again at the Extreme Metal Attack, how was it in 2012? And what do you think about this year's bill with Blizzard, Iron Curtain, The Sorcerer among others? B - It was cool in 2012, I enjoyed a lot Baphomet's Blood performance and that was what caught my eye. As for this year's edition I think it is great to share the stage with Blizzard a band that we share some sonority/conceptual affinities and with The Sorcerer, the legendary project from our Lusitanian shores that returns to the living to eat all (I've heard some of the debut album tracks and I know that there is a great album coming). As for the remaining bill, I like Scarificare and I've also had the opportunity to hear the new CD (Postulado) and it is another band whose quality can't fool you and it is the piece of evidence that what we have here projects that, with the right support, can perfectly go head to head with the best from outside. And here I want to leave my thank you to Hellprod for understanding it better than many out there and to still believe in the national bands! You just have to look at the label's catalogue to see they are not sleeping! MH- Well master of ceremonies, we have reached the end, leave us with your eloquent final words... B - Thank you for the interview! Thank you to all the ones who have followed the band and have supported us unconditionally and watch out for our new album, it will worth it, I can assure you! Come to our gigs for the great liturgic celebration of the fallen angel archetype: AVÉ LUCIFER!

Iron Curtain come from our neighbor Spain and present us a Heavy/Speed Metal well fucked with some influences of the Teutonic school! Formed in 2007 in Murcia, they debuted with the demo ‘Mosh or Die’ in 2009 followed a year later by the second demo called ‘Dirty & Fast’! In 2011 the Chilean label Kvlto al Metal Productions released a comp CD with the name ‘B-Days’ where they gathered both demos plus two new tracks, a year later released its first album ‘Road To Hell’ through Heavy Forces Records in vinyl and Dying Victim Productions in CD! In that same year they released the 7’EP ‘Black Fist’ and in 2013 comes out the split ‘Heavy Metal Strike’ with the German horde Speedbraker with two tracks from each band! Still in 2013 they release their second album ‘Jaguar Spirit’ through the same two labels and the split ‘Forjando El Acero Vol.1’ with the also Spanish band Ciclón with both bands contributing with two tracks, to notice that in that split Iron Curtain present for the first time songs singed in Spanish! Now in 2014 the band formed by Joserra in bass, Cabo on drums, Dani on guitars and Mike on guitars & vocals will be debuting in Lusitanian soil in the XI edition of the Extreme Metal Attack! MH- Hi Mike, how are you? What’s up in the Iron Curtain headquarters? Hi Maniacs! Here I’m listening to Raven's last work till date, “Walk though Fire”… it’s not the best work, but it’s ok. Everything going right at the IC camp, rehearsing, checking ideas for the next shows, new covers, and we are working in a promo video, so maybe next April/ May we will release a video. We are booking dates to present the Spirit of the Jaguar to the rangers of Metal! MH- Let’s start by presenting who is in Iron Curtain and doing what! How and who did come up with the name? We are 4 guys playing Heavy Metal, we don’t want to be original, we don’t want to be the new fashion band or anything similar… We just want to play our honest music to the real maniacs of Heavy Metal. Iron Curtain is formed by Dani (Lead Guitar), Joserra (Bass), Cabo (Drums) and me, Mike (Guitar & Vox). All music is written by Dani & Me, and I usually write the lyrics. The name of the band came to my mind after many options. I’m a History teacher so I can mix both passions Music and History with the band. MH- You were formed around 2007, so who were the guilty ones of that beginning and how did you meet? Old friends, put adds, what? Your idea was to form a Heavy Metal band or was it more to play and see what would you come with? Yes, we are on from 2007. I wanted to create a band a year before, So I asked to my friend Cabo (Drummer) if he wanted to play with me. We started as many
other bands, just drinking, listening to Heavy Metal and playing some covers and having fun, you know haha. We put some adds in some stores and we found some friends to help… Definitely the idea was just playing and have fun and release some demos as well, but nothing serious to be honest…. 7 years later the band has grown a lot as well as the responsibility… we have released 2 records, 2 demos, several 7” and splits… We are still an underground band but with more work to do. MH- The first two demos were well received by the underground, at least from what I've read, were you expecting that? So well that in 2012 a Chilean label released both in CD with a couple of bonus tracks, how did that deal happen? Thanks for your words. Definitely we didn’t expected anything, but we sold/trade around 500 copies of each tapes, I think that it’s a good number nowadays. The tapes were released by the Bolivian Label “Maxima Destrucction”. 2 Years ago I got a mail from a new label “Kvlto al Metal” that wanted to release a full record but the time was for a re-release the demos on CD. Honestly I think that was a good chance for the band to make another step in the underground. He released 500 copies. The tracklist was both demos and 2 bonus tracks of a rough mix of B side of Black Fist EP. I’m happy with that release, cool songs, cool artwork. MH- Your first album ‘Road to Hell’ came in 2012, how was to see your work out in vinyl? The CD brings as bonus the cover 16
from ‘Hit & Run’ from Girlschool, so why that specific song? It was a dream come true to be honest. I’m a vinyl hunter from 20 years, I love records so having your music on that format was amazing and I will always be thank to Stef from Heavy Forces Recs for that opportunity. Both formats have a bonus and exclusive song. On the vinyl there is a song singed in Spanish called “Pacto con el Metal” in the vein of classic Spanish acts like Angeles del Infierno, Obus, Santa o Muro. We decided to cover “Hit & Run” because we love that song, we played it live a few times and I think that was a good idea to play a little tribute to Girlschool. I love that band, specially the first 3 records.
MH- ‘Jaguar Spirit’ is your new album out in 2013, how has been the feedback from the media and fans? I’ve been listening to it while writing this and man that’s a vicious piece of Heavy Metal! Comparing it with ‘Road to Hell’ do you think that exist a lot of differences? Maybe a more mature band? Yes, I think that you are right, it’s a more mature sound, more solid, with more experience, in fact it’s the 5/6 time that we are in the studio so I think that our ideas this
time were loud and clear. It’s a more heavy record if you compare it to “Road To Hell” with more Speed influences, both sound like Venom, Tank, Motörhead, Savage, Exciter, Destructor, Living Death but in the new record you can hear influences of bands like Riot, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Diamond Head but still aggressive and speedy. The answer of media and fans was really nice, very good reviews from zines and magazines like Iron Fist, Rock Hard… and the vinyl is near to be sold out from the label in just 5 months. I think that it’s something good. MH- This is the second album released by Heavy Forces Records in vinyl and Dying Victim Productions in CD so this co-relation is to maintain? Satisfied with the way things are being handled by both labels? I want to work with dedicated people, with real bangers, so Flo and Stef were a great option, they are doing a great work with the labels, I mean, not only for Iron Curtain, he are spreading great bands with great records like Cruel Force, Demona, Iron Kobra, Eliminator… In the future we will continue working with them. Flo did a great job with the CD version, with a lot of extra material as well for Stef for the vinyl, just take a look at the editions and it will blow your mind!! MH- The vinyl brings a bonus track ‘Heavy Metal Nation’ where a couple of known vocalists appear so how did you have the idea of inviting Olof (Enforcer) and Oscar (RAM) to be on that song? I must say it has one of those catchy chorus that makes you want to raise your fist and sing it loud, any plans of playing it live? That’s the idea!!! You got it! Well, Olof & Oscar are good friends of mine from 5/6 years ago so I wanted to create something “big”, a fucking anthem for the underground in the vein of Metalucifer (worship!) So I started with the idea of the song, we create a little demo and send to them, they like the idea very much, so after a couple of weeks they send the material and the final result was something really cool and 110% HEAVY METAL. I think
that Enforcer is nowadays the most powerfull Heavy Metal band on the planet, they are on the Agenda! They are doing something cool, many tours, cool records. You can love them or Hate them, but they rule anyway and kick your ass. RAM has 3 Heavy Metal classics, maybe together with Metal Inquisitor it is the most inspiring underground Heavy Metal band of last 7/8 years. Heavy Metal Tyrany!
MH- I know you already played in Germany, so how is to play outside Spain? You’ll be in the Keep It True of this year, so maybe the highlight of your career until now? Are you very excited to play there? It’s really cool to play abroad! Many reasons but the first is that the audience is new. We have played in Spain a lot, so usually they have seen us 4/5 times, and outside never! So it’s really cool to introduce the band to the new audience! Definitely it’s the highlight till date! We are very pleased with Oliver and KIT crew. We want to play a very special show there, so we are planning some ideas that I can’t say at the moment! It’s gonna be a great weekend! MH- This year you already had a departure and a return! So Alberto is gone but Cabo is back to play the drums, so how do you feel to have one of the cofounders back in the band? Do you see similarities or differences between them in the way of playing? Good question! Yes there are many differences, Alberto is a drummer with a big Hard Rock/ Classic Rock background, he plays clean and powerfull in the 70’s style, Cabo is more speedy, more raw and straight, he plays more rough & tough. Both rule supreme. I think that the best is a mix of both styles and they know what Iron Curtain 17
needs. I’m glad to have Cabo in the band again, he is a friend, he's like a brother in some ways so it’s fun speaking with him and having some beers. MH- You’re going to play in the XI Extreme Metal Attack in Portugal, it’s your first gig after almost playing twice here, so excited to finally play in our country? What is your opinion on this kind of Underground fests? Yes it’s gonna be the first time is Portugal and I’m very very happy, I love Portugal as a country, History, culture, food… so it’s great to play there. And You are right after trying several times we're gonna play there, in Febrary we cancelled a show in Oporto because the change of the drummer and I felt very sad for that so we are really excited to play in Benavente in a fortnight! I think that the underground is the pilar of the metal, so this kind of festivals are great, I hope to get some tapes, or cool shirts in a distro or something! I organized an Underground Fest in Spain actually with my HM Fan Club “Espectros” this year the headliner was Nifelheim so I love the Scene and this kind of festivals are a good oportunity to change ideas of music, trade stuff, meet new people, new bands…. Super Cool!!! MH- Well guys, thank you for having us, now prepare yourselves for the final words which are yours… Obrigado por seu apoio! Vejo vocês em breve em Lisboa! Sagres ou Super Bock? Eu gosto dos dois! Qualquer informação que você pode escrever para ironcurtainattack@gmail.com
The Sorcerer is a one man band coming from the mind of Hugo Andremon, known for his association with Portuguese acts as Grog, Hellfuck, Filii Nigrantium Infernalium or Simbiose! The project begun around 1994 releasing its first demo ‘Through the Valley of Shadows’ in 1997 out through Sword Productions! In 2002 was time for the second demo ‘The Second Coming…’ to be out giving them time for a hiatus that lasted until 2013, time when the split ‘…Enterrai os Vivos e Cuidai dos Mortos…’ alongside Portuguese horde Antiquus Scriptum was out by the German label Runenstein Records! Last year the project gave its first live gig with Andremon being accompanied by some session members for that first ritual that will be now re-edited in March in the XI Extreme Metal Attack! That date also will see the release of the debut album by The Sorcerer called ‘A Graveyard of Fallen Dreams’ that will be out through Hellprod with seven powerful Black Metal hymns! MH- Hello Andremon, how are things?? Prepared for a 2014 full of The Sorcerer news? - Hi! Yes, I am ready and convinced that 2014 will be a good year for me. The CD is being officially released at the Extreme Metal Fest gig and I'm finally accomplishing a dream, so I cannot be happier than now. MH- For those who don't know the story behind The Sorcerer tell us about what is this project and what has been your life as a musician. - The Sorcerer is a solo project that I've had since 1994. I recorded a demo in 1995 and another one in 2002. The project was always on 2nd or ever 3rd place (at that time I was playing in 3 bands at the same time) until 2013. Last year I decided to start to play again and move on with the project to play what I want and what I feel without bothering, lol. No... It really was the music 'bug' that was eating me inside. MH- Last year you had your first gig with The Sorcerer at Beja, how was that experience? Was it gratifying to go up on stage and present your creations? - It was an amazing experience! I confess that I was a little bit nervous since I hadn't stepped on stage for 5 years but everything was fine and the public reacted very well. We only played new tracks and the reaction was great. MH- From what've heard your fist album is coming out by
Hellprod, how did this deal happen? - It was through people associated with the label, that know well my work, and that when they heard that I was composing and recording The Sorcerer at home for a future work, immediately showed interest. Then they waited for the end result and then they were fully convinced. LOL
MH- Present us the album! How many tracks, who did the artwork for the cover, where did you record it? - The album is going to have 5 tracks plus intro and outro. It was recorded at Crossover studios where I had already recorded with Simbiose and Filii Nigrantium Infernalium (FNI). The studio is amazing and who runs it and who work there are really good professionals. One thing is to record a demo or a split or an EP, another is to record a first album with the best possible quality, with professionals and a great environment. The artwork for the cover was done by my friend Luis Neto. An artist with whom I've already worked in FNI. I loved his 18
work in Fellatrix and it was the first one I thought for this album's layout.
MH- Is ' A Graveyard of Fallen Dreams’ a more refined Black Metal sonority when comparing it to your demos? What were your influences during the recordings? - Maybe more mature. However there are two track that go back to 1998. This album was worked throughout the whole year. I had to remember the old riffs, composing and recording the ideas immediately. I stayed up whole days and nights in January and February 2013 composing, recording and programming drums. MH- Lyrics wise what can we find in 'A Graveyard of Fallen Dreams’? Is this a conceptual album or each track has a different theme? - The lyrics are focused on the "Self". My thoughts, my experiences, my feelings, and so on. A dark vision of the dark "self"
that surrounds me. MH- Your going up on stage at the XI Extreme Metal Attack, how have you seen this fest evolve? How do you feel about sharing the stage with bands as Blizzard and Iron Curtain among others? - I honestly didn't know the fest (my fault), but I think it will have
all the ingredients for two days of party and pure Metal. As for the bands you mentioned I also don't know them, LOL... MH- Well Andremon, we have reached the end, leave us with your last words... - I would like to thank you for this interview and to those who have heard the advance (of the album)
and left good feedback. Thank you and see you soon. Don't miss the fest!
Blizzard is a well known German Speed/Heavy Metal band formed in 1998 by Balor (drums) and Atze (guitars)! In 1999 Joe on bass and Faxe on the vocals entered the band and in the same year the band recorded and released their first demo tape called "Alcoholic Metal Mayhem". Shortly after the release of the demo Faxe left the band and Atze started to do the vocals besides the guitar and the band played a couple of gigs and wrote the songs for the first 7"EP "Hellish Rock’n’Metal" which was recorded in December 1999 and released in Spring 2000. After the release of the EP the band played a couple of shows again and did the songs for the split 7"EP with the German Thrashers Witchburner which came out in winter of the same year. After this split EP Joe left the band and Jan entered as new bass player and the band released their first full length album called "Pure Filth and Mayhem" in 2001. The band split up after a show with the Japanese Old School Brigade Abigail in October of the year 2001. After 7 years Atze, Jan and Balor regrouped in 2008 to show the world one more time the meaning of REAL DIRTY HEAVY METAL MUSIC. The first work after this resurge was the 7"EP "The Return Of Pure Filth And Mayhem" that came up together with the CD re-release of the old shit at the end of 2008 on Undercover Records. In 2009 they recorded the second album “The Roaring Tanks of Armageddon” that came out through Evil Spell records a sub label of Undercover Records. In 2010 a Split 10” with the Japanese Metal Punks of Barbatos was released, called “United Metal Punks”. Both bands went on a European tour to promote the release and in 2011 they released their third full length album “Rock’n’Roll Overkill”! In 2012 they unleashed the fourth album ‘Fuck The Universe’ that was followed already this year by the first DVD from this Teutonic horde, ‘Alcoholic Firetigers’!! Don’t lose their debut in Lusitanian lands on the XI Extreme Metal Attack!! MH- Hi Balor, welcome here, how are you and how are things with Blizzard? Your first DVD is almost out, right? So what’s in it? B - The things are very well here and all runs god at the moment for Blizzard. Hell Yezz, the Alcoholic Firetigers DVD is out since the beginning of Feb. and we are really proud of it! MH- Now starting from the beginning! The band was formed in 1998 by you and Atze, so how did you two met and decided to show the world how to play real dirty Heavy Metal? In 2000 Jan entered the ranks of Blizzard, where did you recruit him? B - I know Atze since more than 20 years but the contact broke up from 1992 – 1997. I played in Mayhemic Truth at this time and after the split of M.T. Atze and me
decided to run a band in the vein of the old barbaric bands like Venom, Warfare etc. In the early days Joe played bass in Blizzard but after he left the band we recruited Jan. Atze knows Jan and he contacted him to join hellfucking Blizzard.
MH- In 2001 you released your first full length ‘Pure Filth and Mayhem’, do you recall how was the recording of it? In that same year you decided to do a hiatus on your career, were you guys tired of the music industry or it was just the time needed 19
to have a breath? B - Hahaha, we took some boxes of beer and some bottles of Whisky and entered the Audio Artist Studio of our friend Roman Thyzorn and started the recording under the influence of an alcoholic overkill harharhar. Yes, in the same year the band broke up because some youth stupidness… MH- 7 years later you returned, so what had changed that made you wanted to play again as Blizzard? Undercover/Evil Spell Records released in that year the EP ‘The Return of Pure Filth and Mayhem’ with 4 tracks, how was it to be back on the game with Blizzard? When were those four tracks done? After the comeback or they were in some vault from the past? B - I had more or less the complete time between 2001 and 2007 contact to Jan but I lost Atze out of
my eyes. Jan came up with the idea to do a 7”EP with Blizzard and some shows. He contacted Atze and the rest is history… The 3 songs of the EP where made for this split. The other mentioned song was just the intro.
MH- Then in four years you released four works, so you came full of ideas after this comeback? Is the chemistry of the band at its peak? More tight after the hiatus? How is the writing process of Blizzard? Does one of you have all the ideas or things are done with ideas from everyone? B - I think after the reunion we had many ideas and this is the reason why we did 4 releases in such a short time. By the way on the “Roaring…” album you will find 3 old tracks from the Alcoholic Metal Mayhem demo. If one of us has an idea we bring it to the rehearsal room and work on it. We will release at the end of the year a split 7”EP with the old school HC band of Chris Reifert and for this release we will record 3 songs in April. Each of us did a song for this. MH- In 2010 you released a split vinyl with the Japanese maniacs of Barbatos and then toured with them, so how was to tour with Yasuyuki? A lot of great stories to remember from that tour? Any that you can share with our readers? B - We know Yasuyuki since a long time and touring with him is really great. Of course there are a lot of stories around this tour, but all are top secret hehehe. MH- ‘Fuck the Universe’ was the latest one released in 2012 through Evil Spell Records, you have been with them since you returned so did you find the right partner in crime? Satisfied with how they have supported Blizzard? B - The work with Evil Spell is O.K.. We know the label owner Alex a long time and we are friends. Sometimes he is a little bit lazy, but
after another kick in his ass he works round again hehehe. MH- How have the fans and media reacted to ‘Fuck the Universe’? Did you have a lot of feedback? Are you a band that give importance to reviews or you don’t give a flying fuck to critics and prefer the fans voice? B - The reactions where different. Because the fact that RnR Overkill was mire an Rock n Roll album the most people thought we will do more stuff in a rocking way, but we gone back to the chaotic roots of Blizzard and not everyone understood this, but we don´t give a fuck to the opinions of other people. We are still satisfied with the album!
MH- Lyric wise this album seems to be darker than your previous ones with songs as ‘My Name is Pain’, ‘Into the Fires of Purgatory’ or ‘Satan in Her Soul’, so what’ve inspired you to write lyrics for ‘Fuck the Universe’? B - We returned more to the satanic and evil roots of Metal. Nothing more. MH- You’ll be playing in XI Extreme Metal Attack, is this your first concert in Portugal? What do you think of this kind of Underground festivals? B - Yes it´s our first gig in Portugal and we are really looking forward for it! It´s a little bit a pitty that the Pösercrusher can´t come with us to this show, because he got no holydays from work, but we have a great session bass player called Matze from German Thrash/Death band Contamination and he is really fit on his instrument and fits the band so that nobody hopefully will miss the Pösercrusher on this show… I love this kind of Underground Festivals!!!!! MH- Ok, we’ve reach the end, thank you for your time, now let who read us with your final words by now… B - Thanx for the intie… 20
