Relief for Tzaneen’s severely overcrowded magistrates’ offices is imminent. A spacious double-story government homestead in Pompagalana (photo above) has been converted into court rooms and offices and is

to be occupied early in 2013. Tzaneen’s chief magistrate, Mr James Norval, confirmed that the building has been allocated to his office. He also confirmed that the
family and civil courts will be accommodated in the new, comprehensively refurbished building. There is more good news, but Norval asked us to wait a while before making further announcements. — Francois Aucamp

Bad NEWS
The renovations of the old magistrates’ offices in Tzaneen’s CBD, next to the Police station, have come to an abrupt halt and the contractor has left the premises. New tenders will now be invited, which might take quite some time.
When the tender for the restoration of this stately heritage building was awarded, experienced people in the building industry warned that only an experienced
contractor would be able to comply with the strict building regulations for heritage buildings. The building will be allocated to the SAPS, once the restoration has been completed. — Francois Aucamp

Of dit nou Sondag is of nie, jou vleistande se keuses raak minder...
Uiteindelik!

The DA has reported a Limpopo school principal to the SA Council of Educators for allegedly threatening learners with being barred from writing exams, if they fail to pay R100 towards the school coffers. Reports indicated that this was the situation at Khomani Mbhalati High School near Giyani. “During the exam period, tensions run very high and the last thing that students expect and need is scare tactics from educators,” said Ms Desiree van der Walt of the DA. “The Education Department must take the ultimate blame for not ensuring that the schools get their norms-and-standards funding on time. Howeve,r this in no way justifies the educators threatening learners with preventing them from writing their exams due to school funds shortages. “The DA will monitor the situation to ensure that our learners experience an incidentfree examination period. We also urge parents to ensure that the situation at home is most conducive for studying,” she said.

Two found dead in supermarket POLICE NEWS POLISIENUUS
The people of Petanenge village near Nkowankowa are still in shock after a man and woman were found dead in the back rooms of Khoza Supermarket. There are many questions about the
incident, but according to Tzaneen Cluster police spokesman, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, it is believed that the rooms caught fire and trapped them inside. The owner of the supermarket found the body of Phumzile Rikhotso (21) in the room and called the police. Ngoepe says the police discovered the body of Charles Nkuna (27) trapped inside the ceiling. The police are still investigation and waiting for the post-mortem.
Robber caught Last week Thursday, the Naphuno magistrates’ court sentenced an armed robbery expert to twelve years inprisonment.
Maake police communication officer Cst Mpho Seroto said Tshepho Mnisi (28) from Morareleng village, Sekororo, was arrested for armed robbery before he escaped from the Maake police cells. The police tracked him down and he was re-arrested in April in Johannesburg. Mnisi will still appear in court with his accomplices for outstanding cases of armed robbery. Maake station commander Col Schalk van Schalkwyk commended the judicial system for Mnisi’s heavy sentence and believes that on the upcoming cases Mnisi and his accomplices

Four in court
Four suspects appeared in the Ritavi magistrates’ court in connection with the martina@bulletin.us.com murder of 24 year-old Louis Mabunda. The MEC of Safey, Security and Liaison in Lim- mobile roadblocks and Given Baloyi (23), Louis Sebola (22), Steven Ramoshaba (23) and Anikie Khoza (17) are accused of killing Mabunda. According to Letsitele police communication officer Cst Ntsako Mabunda the four suspects had a conflict with the deceased that led them to assault and stab him with a sharp instrument, at Gilt tavern in Nkambako village. The suspects are in police custody and the case has been remanded for bail application. Meanwhile the Letsitele police have arrested 35 people during the week: six for driving without a license, fourteen for drinking in public, three for possession of dagga, two for road traffic act violations, four for common assault, one for fishing without a license, one for theft and one for possession of counterfeit goods.

for suspects who bombed a Capitec Bank ATM at Ofcolaco on Wednesday morning very early. According to the Maake police communication officer, Cst Mpho Seroto, it is alleged that the suspects arrived at the filling station pretending to want to fill up their vehicle. While the petrol attendant was busy filling the vehicle, he saw another suspect coming towards them escorting the security guard at gun point. The suspects went into the convenience shop and ordered everybody to lie on the ground. The suspects then bombed the ATM and also broke into the shop’s safe. One petrol attendant was injured. The suspects ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash and a firearm. Maake SAPS Station Commander Col Schalk van Schalkwyk is appealing to the public to
assist the police with information regarding the incident, on 015 355 8357 or 015 355 8303.
Criminals beware! Criminals in Limpopo should certainly feel uncomfortable and unwanted, since the launch of the SAPS in Limpopo’s festive season operation “Duty calls” on Friday. The police will be going out in full force to
ensure a safe, secure and joyous season for citizens.
The campaign was launched by the MEC of Safety, Security and Liaison, Ms Florence Radzilani, and the Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Simon Mpembe. Members of the community can expect high police visibility over the coming months, with
support from the SAPS Air wing, as well as stop and searches. As part of the campaign, Radzilani officially handed over fourteen high-powered vehicles to specialised units. The vehicles will be used on highways, byways and other crime hotspots. Speaking at the launch, Mpembe instructed his provincial management and operational members to intensify operations and increase visibility. He said they will concentrate on police priority areas. The protection of women and children will also be a focus point. Mpembe said festive season plans are in place and that members are committed to work tirelessly in order to protect all citizens. He urged people to support and cooperate with the police during the festive season. “Only if we work together, we will be able to squeeze the space for criminals in our province,” he said.

Renosterstropery

In die jongste hartseer voorval is ‘n jong renoster by Lephalale gestroop.

Meer as 440 renosters is reeds vanjaar in Suid-Afrika gestroop. LiN News/Bosveld Bulletin

In this secular world of ours how many of us, who profess to be Christians, really reach out to others? It is a Biblical principle that we should give 10%. But what does this really mean? Is it only giving to the Church in order to see that God’s word is spread and that the Church can be a viable entity in today’s world? Yes, this is the main thrust of what we should do. What about us? Do we just give to the Church and expect them to do everything else, or do we too become involved by spreading the Gospel? Now one may argue, that one has not been trained, that one is not a preacher. This is true, but God has given each of talents and it is in how we use them that is important. It is in reaching out to others that we find true Christian spirit. Think of how others are suffering, perhaps you personally know of a case. What are you doing about it? Do you make suggestions, do you find out the root cause, or do you just sit back and do nothing? Many of those who are suffering, although it might be financially, often just need someone to talk to, someone who will not judge them. Yes someone who cares, with the same passion that Christ had. Unfortunately, it not just saying that we are Christians and going to church regularly that makes us what Christ wants of us. It is in DOING that we are obeying Christ. He said that it would not be easy to follow Him, but in doing so we will reap the greatest of all things and that is we will be doing His will. We will be carrying out His command to love. Are you willing to reach out to others in there time of need? What do you need to do this and how can you be a light in the world? We all need to trust Christ more, to be faithful to Him. To put aside our petty differences and touch someone. Blessings
Memorandum to stop rhino slaughter still not signed South Africa’s efforts to address the ongoing slaughter of rhinos for their horns have received a major setback. This follows the eleventh Conference of Parties (COP 11) that was held in India last week. South Africa was supposed to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnamese Government. This did not happen. According to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Luong Minh, was not able to attend the conference in Hyderabad, India. The department confirmed that SA’s Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa, was at the conference, but they were unable to specify why Minh
could not attend the conference. The memorandum would have covered the co-operation between the two countries in biodiversity management, law enforcement and other relevant legislation. The goal would have been not only to address the poaching of rhinos, but also any threats to a broad range of wildlife in South Africa. The department confirmed that both countries are keen to sign the memorandum, but that both ministers’ schedules will first have to be synchronised. “Both countries are still committed to entering into a memorandum, and discussions on a future date for both ministers to sign the memorandum are already underway,”
said national DEA spokesperson Mr Albi Modise. This follows the department’s recent poaching statistics which indicate that 467 rhinos have been slaughtered in illegal killings since the beginning of this year. According to the department 281 rhinos have been killed in the Kruger National Park so far this year. Limpopo has listed the highest number of poached rhinos at 49 killed. The number of rhinos poached still exceeds the number of arrests that have been made. According to statistics provided by the DEA, only 207 rhino-poaching-related arrests have been made. Of these, 51 occurred in the Kruger National Park and 34 in the Limpopo Province. LiN News/Zoutpansberger
Almal beskinder almal!
Letters • Briewe by hul huise.
Taxpayers shouldn’t pay Desiree van der Walt DA Limpopo caucus leader writes by e-mail: MEC Pinky Kekana must not be allowed to abuse taxpayers’ money to review the Public Protector’s findings against her that she abused her position when in 2010; she ordered the arrest of political opponents. It has emerged that Ms Kekana intends to take to court the findings of the Public Protector which are critical of her decision to order traffic officers, when she was still MEC for Roads and Transport, to arrest Mr Julius Malema’s opponents during a 2010 Youth League conference in Makhado. Ms Kekana is free to take the Public Protectors finding on a court review but she
must do so from her own pocket. It cannot continue unabated that public’s monies which could be better expended on service delivery are used to pay for frivolous court actions. These legal costs sometimes run into millions of rands. What is clear is that state machinery should not be used to settle private political scores. Traffic officers are there to ensure safety on our roads and not to be used as pawns in political battles. Ms Kekana must do the honourable thing and apologise to the people of Limpopo. This will save us the money which could be used for better service delivery. Her intransigent attitude only confirms the DA’s position that MEC Kekana is not fit to hold public office.

New detective head in Tzaneen The Tzaneen Cluster of the SA Police Service has a new head of detectives, Col James Espach (41). He took over from Lt Col Jabulani Ngobeni. Espach is known for having put a great number of criminals behind bars and the Tzaneen
cluster could not ignore the great work Espach has done in Giyani. The former commander of a Murder and Robbery Unit says he is here to improve service delivery to the community and also to ensure that the cluster
produces the best detectives. He also said the biggest challenge is the limited exchange of information between the detectives and the people, which is caused by lack of trust. “Our main aim is to try and achieve success and making
our communities safe from criminals. However, we can only achieve that with the support from community members and the local media,” said Espach. — Martina Jege martina@bulletin.us.com

Giyani residents not out of the woods yet The completion of the Nandoni Dam pipeline project has become critical, since the water crisis in Giyani increased to a point where it becomes common for sections to spend more than two weeks without water from the taps. The community has tried almost every trick in the book to get the government to do something about the situation, but to no avail. In the meantime the situation deteriorates daily. “We spend weeks without water, yet we’re expected to pay the municipality’s water rates every month,” complained Rhulani Makhubele of Section D2 in Giyani, adding that most people rely on their own boreholes for water. The spokesperson for the Mopani District The construction of the Nandoni pipeline to Giyani is in progress. This photo was taken along the road between Malamulele and Giyani. Report & photo: Orlando Chauke Municipality, Mr Neil Shikwambana, says
the pipeline, which was delayed due to court cases, will not be completed before late 2013. According to him the MDM will ensure that supplying water to communities through boreholes would be strengthened. About boreholes around Giyani that are not functioning or have no water Shikwambana said the issue of boreholes was “dynamic” and that the MDM was working on it. He pointed out that vandalism has played a major roll in boreholes not being able to deliver water. Meanwhile the two dams supplying water in Giyani are alarmingly low: Middle Letaba is at less than 2% while Nsami is below 21%. Greater Giyani Municipality’s spokesperson, Mr Steve Mabunda, says only rain can save residents of Giyani from a water crisis.
‘Our patience is running out’ The Greater Tzaneen Municipality has remained mum about the legal costs after the recent court ruling re-
garding Claude Wheatley Street. The GTM was found to have acted irregularly when awarding the tender to refurbish Claude Wheatley Street. The construction was put on hold six months ago, pending court proceedings. The road is in a terrible condition. Taxi drivers and business owners close to the road are complaining that it is impacting negatively on business in the area. A prominent businessman who does not want to be named for fear of victimisa-
tion told us that he would soon submit a petition with more than three thousand names to the GTM. “There is a massive negative impact on business. If it rains the small cars do not pass and when it is dry the dust is a big problem. It affects the health of the people.” Mr Moses Masedi, a taxi driver, says commuters are complaining about the dust. He says “it costs taxi drivers a lot to keep our vehicles clean and to service the shocks”. It is not clear when the new contractor will be appointed to finish the road. We hear that construction might only resume next year. —Percy Mthombeni Not only motorists, especially taxis, have to manoeuvre Claude Wheatley percy@bulletin.us.com

Eco Club ventures into grassland next The Tzaneen Eco Club is hosting a grassland wildflower walk, with local expert Sylvie Koehne, on Saturday 10 November. This will be a slow, easy ramble in the remnants of the critically endangered Woodbush Granite Grassland in the Woodbush area. Since the 1800’s, over 90% of the grasslands in the Woodbush-Tzaneen area have been transformed into forestry plantation. The tiny fragments of grassland that remain are threatened by invasive alien plants and poor fire
management. In these grasslands, only one out of six plants are grasses. Around 630 different plants are to be found, of these 42 plants are protected or endangered. Koehne has been exploring these areas for many years and has been doing a survey on the flora of these grasslands since 2008. She studied agriculture at Hohenheim in Germany and after immigrating to South Africa in 1985, worked at Westfalia as an avocado researcher for 22 years. She is passionate about increasing an awareness and appreciation of the indigenous flora. Visitors are welcome, there

will be a small fee of R20 for nonmembers. Bring camp chairs and refreshments for a picnic after the walk. The October walks at Kurisa Moya had to be cancelled due to the wet weather. It has been rescheduled with David Letsoalo at Kurisa Moya on Saturday 17 November at 06:00. Numbers are limited and it’s open to members only, for a small fee of R50. A general interest walk will follow at 08:30, open to all, with a fee of R25 for members and R50 for nonmembers. Please contact Marianne McKenzie 082 835 4185 for more info.
The rain came down and the organisers and captains decided that a bowl out would decide the winner. With a wet ball in hand, bowlers battled to bowl straight and in a sudden death battle the Eagles managed to hit the stumps and win the Univeg Katopé Hornbills Festival 2012. Other awards like fielder of the festival went to Justin Winnan for tidy work behind the stumps, whilst Simon Tattersal won the award for the best bowler. Sponsors, like Univeg Katopé, Trophy Toyota, African Jacana Industrials, Tzaneen Auto and AT-PET Trading & Falconwood Juices and Tzaneen Ice, were responsble for a successful tournament.
Healthy Habits by Damian Jansen van Rensburg The biggest contributing factor to adopting a healthy lifestyle is your daily dietary and lifestyle habits. Habits are rituals that are learnt over time, and are therefore not easily changed once they have been set as it is very tough to move out of a comfort zone. When looking to start training or to make a change in your diet don’t look to make sudden drastic changes as this is more often then not a quick path to a relapse. Look to make subtle changes over
a period of time and before you know it you will have become accustomed to new and healthy habits which will become your new way of life. By creating new habits you will automatically replace old unhealthy habits and with it gain a new self belief and confidence which will fuel your energy and drive towards your goals.
