Frederick Pohl In some areas roads are poorly marked, a white arrow showing you can go straight or turn right, suddenly changes to a yellow arrow not allowing you to go straight, like in Voortrekker Road coming from Aqua Park into town. Hans Schouwstra Die nuwe pyle by die Lifestylekruising gaan nog baie probleme veroorsaak. Don’t Stop If you wake up and don’t want to smile, If it takes just a little while, Open your eyes and look at the day, You’ll see things in a different way. Don’t stop, thinking about tomorrow,

A public awareness campaign preceded the circulation launch of SA’s new banknotes, with advertisements flighted on TV and radio, in newspapers and magazines, as well as online and on social media platforms. South Africans have been given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the security features of the new banknotes, through road shows and public outreach events nationwide. The Bulletin got a snap of a road show vehicle at the Life Style Centre in Tzaneen. The road show was from Nkowankowa and en route to Polokwane to raise awareness for the new notes. Arrested for murder
Twenty police officers are now set to help landowners to open an arson case in terms of the National Veld and Forest Fire Act. The Letaba Fire Protection Association (LFPA) identified the need for this. The officers from Letsitele, Bolobedu, Tzaneen, Ritavi, Maake and Modjadjiskloof underwent a one day training workshop. LFPA chairman Trevor Phillips gave them essential background information of the LFPA. The fire protection officer, Mr Vincent van der Westhuizen, from the Mopani District Fire and Rescue Services then explained fire investigations and how the police and fire department should work hand in hand. Mr Mortas Khambule from Working On Fire said that although Working On Fire and the Letaba FPA are in partnership, they are still separate entities. Mr Brian Homewood, senior fire advisor from the department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries (DAFF), explained the Act while DAFF’s advocate, Mr George Ngwato, showed the officers how to write out a docket and all the information needed to open an arson case in terms of the National Veld and Forest Fire Act.
The police in Bolobedu have arrested a man (45) for murder after he had allegedly shot and killed a man in his own house. The suspect is said to have gone to the deceased’s house in search of his mother, who allegedly owed him money. An argument developed and the deceased, Winners Baloyi (34), came out

in his mother’s defense causing a confrontation with the suspect. Baloyi was shot and was confirmed dead on the scene. The suspect has been arrested and will appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court. In another murder case, two men believed to be between twenty and 25 years old were stabbed
with sharp objects in Moime village, Lenyenye. The men were allegedly robbing a shop, when the shop owner and other people attacked them. They were killed and later found in the street. The shop owner and another suspect have been arreste, and a police investigation is ongoing.

Verdeelde raad
As jy mooi daaroor dink dan steek daar baie waarheid in. Mat 6:9-13 Elke mens wat hom- of haarself `n Christen noem, behoort hom of haar gereeld af te vra: Wat is my motivering vir my optrede? Mooi naweek!

Enjoy Xmas market Pierre Naudé (rev), Superintendent Minister, Methodist Church, Tzaneen, writes: On Saturday the 1 December 2012 the Tzaneen Methodist Church is holding a Christmas Market, selling food, fresh produce, plants, Christmas gifts and a whole lot of other things that people might enjoy during the Festive Season. Individuals who would like to make use of this opportunity to market their own gift items, art work, jewellery, jams and bottled preserves, health and beauty products and the like are welcome to come and set up a stall and join in the fun! * Please phone Hillary Gows on 083 287 2614 to book your space.
Letters • Briewe The venue is at the Tzaneen Methodist Church (8-10 Peace St) and we have space available in our hall, minor hall, the parking area and on the grass and paved areas around the buildings. Space will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis. The ‘doors’ will open to the public at 09:00 and close at around 14:00 so please set up before that time and be prepared to stay until all is ‘said and done’. The venues will be available for set up from 07:00.
We have ‘wrestled’ a little about how to charge stallholders. We are told that a flat rate per stall and a percentage of the takings seems to be the norm in this area. We have decided to be a little more flexible! We will charge you R100 for the stall space (bring your own stall!) and we ask you to consider making a donation to us over and above this should you prosper on the day! Among other needs, the proceeds of the day will be used for our Eve’s Rib Community Kitchen, which provides daily hot
meals for needy people and weekly food parcels for many families. We have plenty of chairs available, but please bring your own tables, display boards, etc. The Church will sell plants, fruit and vegetables, run a Tea Garden and offer various hot food, so we ask you kindly not to sell that sort of thing. As this is a Christian Church we request that people who sell crystals and other items of a ‘New Age’ nature please be sensitive to the beliefs of some of our members and rather sell something else on the day. We are also not allowed, by Law, to sell any sort of alcohol. We look forward to enjoying the day with you!

How many South Africans own a vacuum cleaner? How many people in the country wear glasses? Who lives where and in what language do people communicate? Who earns how much? These and hundreds of other questions can now be answered, compliments of the 2012 census — the first in ten years. The Bulletin team discovered very interesting statistics applicable to our area: the area being under the jurisdiction of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality. We also discovered statistics representing rather interesting trends. Today we offer our readers some interesting figures and graphs in a number of categories. Have a look and get to know and understand our area’s demographics and other interesting facets of our local society better. We have kept the graphics as simple and easy to read as possible. Hysbak hys weer
REGS: By
Hier is sy by haar prys, saam met me Karene Nel. Foto’s: Retha Nel
— Retha Nel retha@bulletin.us.com

A similar one is planned for Giyani. — Orlando Chauke

Dissatisfaction with electrifying process
Four DA representatives of Mawa Block 8B and 12B (Ward 2) in the Tzaneen area have submitted a petition with 174 signatures to the GTM on behalf of its frustrated residents. The representatives met with the DA councilor and executive committee member, Ms René Pohl, and expressed their concerns regarding the lack of transparency on the criteria used by the GTM for the installation of electricity in their villages. According to them, the residents of villages feel that other
villages are favored above them that older villages have yet to receive any electricity. “We will have to wait a possible ten years before we receive electricity as Eskom informed us that they can only electrify two villages per year,” the petition reads. Mr Cassius Machimana, an Excom member who accepted the petition on behalf of the mayor, ensured the concerned group that the GTM will look into the situation as a priority, and that they will consult regularly
with feedback to the community through Pohl. According to them, he also said that transparency on how projects are prioritized will be attended to.

GEVAAR! Laat ent jou hond.
The DA representatives of the concerned villages in ward 2, Messrs Sidwell Khosa, Patrick Mailula, Edward Ngobeni and Elijah Mhlongo are seen here with Ms René Pohl (DA councilor and executive committee member).

No end to this theft
Shop trolley theft continues to be a huge problem in Tzaneen — and it not only affects food prices but also upsets consumers. The Bulletin tried to contact the supermarkets in Tzaneen several times in order to get comment on the issue. However, only Checkers in Agatha Street was willing to talk to us. The administration manager, Ms Tebogo Molokome, said Checkers employs a contracter, Mr Clean, to ensure that trolleys are collected after business hours, to collect
trolleys from around town. “Trolley theft is a challenge and it affects both the customers and workers. The trolleys often used by commuters to transport heavy luggage are generally stolen from supermarkets,” she said. Consumers complain that supermarket managers and the police are not putting enough effort into finding a solution for this problem. One way of preventing shopping trolley
theft, is the implementation of a cart retrieval service. Many shopping centres use this method to collect trolleys found left outside the stores’. Another method used in many towns is to have trolley guards. They push customers’ trolleys around the parking lot and then return the trolleys to the shop. Checkers in the Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre employs a similar system to avoid trolley theft. — Martina Jege martina@bulletin.us.com

Delegates and stakeholders return from a tour of the Nandoni Dam in one of the old boats operating there, during the launch of a maritime safety initiative.
Maritime transport to make Nandoni safer A maritime transport safety initiative has been launched at Nandoni Dam by the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) ahead of the festive season, in order to curb the alarming number of drownings during holidays and weekends. Unlicensed boats that sink or overturn, illegal fishing and crocodiles are responsible for the most drownings. Speaking on behalf of the MEC for Roads and Transport, Mr Pitsi Moloto, Mr Lucas Manyuwa, who heads technical services in the district, said inland waters form a big share of the challenges in the transport industry, due to a lack of policies that govern them. These include a lack of inspection of boats, incident and accident management, skill development, budget allocation for inland water-ways and a lack of safety forums to alert people of any impending danger. “Our intervention is to ensure that every boat that gets into the
water is well licenced,” he said. “We’ll also introduce boat monitors, empower a disaster management team and fund careers related to this field, in order to create jobs.” Asked whether the VDM was going to introduce its own boats to operate on the dam, Manyuwa said “it is being discussed”. The local communities around the dam welcomed the launch of the initiative. “If you live here and witness the incidents caused by faulty boats, you come to realise that it is time for a new approach,” said Mr Given Mathebula, who is the keeper of the picnic site at the dam. Mr Solomon Matsimbi, a retired teacher who frequents the dam to fish, said he was pleased with the initiatives. “I have never tried those boats for fear of becoming another statistic. However, I might change my view about this with the new initiative,” he said. — Orlando Chauke orlando@bulletin.us.com

Unicorn Prep School holds another great golf day The Unicorn Preparatory School did it again and this time in the rain! According to Ms Machel Lombard the day was extremely successful. The well managed Tzaneen Country Club’s course was well groomed and the management and staff very accommodating. The main aim of the sponsored Unicorn Golf Day was to give something back to the community. The Tzaneen Care Group organised a beautiful Breast Cancer Tea while the 118 golfers were teeing off. The eighteen sponsors had a return on their investment and displayed their brands in the wet. The success of the day relied mostly on the generous donations and contributions from sponsors. The players were spoiled and entertained by the enthusiastic parents of Unicorn at the welcome table, prize giving and social supper. The Unicorn Golf Day for 2013 is already in the planning and reservations for this marketing opportunity can be made at the school at 015 307 2840. TOP RIGHT: The best dressed team was from Tzaneen Treated Timbers, André Venter, Morné Jacobs, Riaan du Plessis and Beyers Steynberg.
