The ANC in Limpopo is plagued by a fresh round of infighting and local political commentators and analysts say it will not be an easy task for the ANC’s interim provincial task team (IPTT) to put a stop to the various groups jockeying for positions and a new leadership. Information obtained by the Bulletin confirms that the chairperson of the IPTT summoned mayors, speakers and chief whips of the ruling party to a meeting at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane on Tuesday, where he ordered them to give feedback regarding all tenders for municipalities within two weeks. A source close to the ANC’s inner circle in Limpopo and who would understandably
not be willing to be identified, told us that the IPTT demands to be consulted on all tenders and that no tender should be awarded before it has been approved by the IPTT. It is also said that Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale has been stripped of all powers and that he is nothing more than a puppet waiting to finally be removed as Premier. He was removed as provincial chairman of the ANC about two weeks ago and his provincial executive committee disbanded. It is also said that the crisis in the CAR and the unexpected loss of thirteen South African soldiers have been keeping President Zuma so busy that he couldn’t thus far attend to the problems in Limpopo.

Rumour now also has it that there is a new ethnic “war” between Sotho and Shangaan supporters of the ANC in Limpopo, with Sotho people in leadership positions saying there need to be a “clean-up” in local government. In the mean time, Ms Desiree van der Walt of the DA in the province, announced that they will monitor the situation regarding tenders very closely. “The DA will urge National Treasury to inform the Limpopo ANC that it does not have the mandate to announce how government tenders will be awarded in Limpopo. This after reports today (Tuesday) indicating that the Limpopo ANC has removed powers to
allocate tenders from Premier Mathale. “The DA is concerned that government functions will now be done at the ANC Limpopo headquarters and not through legal processes in government. The allocation of tenders must be done by professional officials in government who will be led by principles of transparency and fairness,” she said. Van der Walt added that “the root of the problem in Limpopo is that the ANC and not professionals in government have been allocating tenders for corrupt purposes for some years now”. Analysts say the coming weeks rather than months, will be crucial for the ANC in Lim.

Wat is jou opinie oor kindermishandeling? What is your opinion on child abuse? “hy maak so vinnig spore of bak gewoonlik mooi broodjies of hol bed toe”!

Landbou verloor ‘n yster Frank Honiball sterf in Australië ‘n Staatmaker in landbou in veral die Laeveld, mnr Frank Honiball, is Sondag in Australië dood, nadat hy in ‘n goed gemerkte voetgangeroorgang in Coledale naby Sydney onder ‘n motor beland en noodlottig beseer is.
Hy was ook betrokke by verskeie kultuurorganisasies. Begrafnisreëlings is nog nie afgehandel nie.
People in Australia reacted with concern after the death of Mr Frank Honiball of Tzaneen. There is an obvious problem with the pedestrian crossing that claimed his life. The following report was published in the Bulli Times, an Australian newspaper covering the area of Coledale where Honiball died. It is with great sadness that we wish to announce the untimely death of Frank Honiball. He died in Wollongong Hospital, NSW, Australia, at around 23:30 Australian Eastern Standard Time, after being hit by a car at around 18:00 of the same day. Frank sustained multiple leg and head fractures, and was in deep coma immediately after the crash. The accident happened as he and his wife Irma were walking back home after spending the day at the beach. Irma crossed the street at a safe albeit un-
Pedestrian crossing that caused Frank Honiball’s death should be fixed, say residents marked stretch of the road, while Frank decided to walk 50 meters on to the demarcated pedestrian crossing. Reports suggests that it may have been a more difficult crossing to make than meets the eye, since it is located on a blind hight¹. Irma only saw the accident as Frank was flung into the air. Wollongong Police are investigating the accident and interviewed a number of witnesses. The 58 year-old driver of the Falcon was taken for mandatory blood and urine tests. The driver of the vehicle was not hurt. Frank and Irma were on route to
Auckland, New Zeeland, to visit Frank’s sister. She immigrated to New Zeeland in 2004. Irma is supported by friends while in Australia. She plans to continue with a short visit to New Zeeland, and is expected back in SA around the 10th April. Frank’s remains will be repatriated as soon as possible, after which the funeral arrangements will be made known. The family wish to thank friends, colleagues and local Wollongong residents for messages of support in this
difficult time. ¹Several near-misses of pedestrians have occurred in the past few years, and local residents have campaigned for a number of years to have the crossing improved. The President of Coledale Public School’s Parents and Citizens Association, Annie McNamara, said that the issue have been raised with the Wollongong Council and state politicians after a young boy nearly got run over a year before. According to McNamara, the pedestrian crossing is simply in the wrong spot.

Man found dead in a shack
The decomposed body of a 27 year-old man was found in a shack at Mshongoville near Mankweni village on Saturday morning. According to Maake police communication officer, Const Mpho Seroto, it is alleged that the deceased, Tshepo Motloutsi, hanged himself after fighting with his girlfriend. Seroto added that a case of assault was
opened against the deceased. Maake police responded to a call from Motloutsi’s neighbour, who decided to go check on him as there were a lot of flies coming out of his shack.

Mooi naweek!
Bulletin supports any lawful action to end violence against our women and children The art of Sushi is now available in Tzn, courtesy of Rose Yan Sushi is an art and it’s a pleasure watching Rose Yan (43) as she deftly prepares yet another take away order of salmon nigiri. Tucked into the corner of The Rose and Dragon pub at the Oasis Mall in Tzaneen, Rose has opened up a sushi bar and business is brisk. She will be adding Chinese cuisine as soon as her special expensive cooking device arrives from Hangzhou in China. This will allow Rose to cook eight different Chinese dishes in eleven minutes at once. She’s also waiting for another machine from China to make extra special smoothies. Previously Rose had a sushi and Chinese restaurant in Phalaborwa called Flying Dragon. She’s divorced with her only child, Jonathan, studying IT at the University of Shanghai in China. She hadn’t seen Jonathan for four years and, as she runs a one-man show, she decided to close shop, and flew to Shanghai for 45 days.
She saw her son and family, shopped for her next restaurant venture, returned with hundreds of fridge magnets to promote her business, looked for and found her spot in the Tzaneen sun. Rose learnt Chinese cooking from her parents and went on a two week sushi course in Johannesburg. She came to South Africa at the age of 21. She’d left an excellent office job working for the Shanghai Metro Corporation. She says, “There are many opportunities in South Africa but one has to take risks.” She has already found a niche clientele at Food Lovers Market in Lifestyle Centre. She has three suppliers in Johannesburg and makes regular trips for fresh salmon, seaweed, wasabi, prawns and caviar. While Rosemary Heyman continues with the pub side of the business the other Rose will serve oriental takeaways daily from 10:00 to 21:00. —Susan Ettmayr

So verval Tzaneen

There is still space available for the Letaba Fire Protection Association’s management training which will take place from 15 to 18 April at the Letaba Show grounds. This training focuses on fire management and includes three levels of management: single resource leaders including foremen, supervisors and drivers. Secondly there are the initial attack incident commanders which include farmers, foresters and skit unit drivers. Thirdly: the Incident Commanders Training and includes senior mangers, disaster managers and support staff and administrators. This training is open to anyone and is not only for LFPA members. The training will end with a two-hour sand box live simulation.
The LFPA as an association have recognized the incredible contribution that farmers, foresters and workers have made in the combat of fires in the area. “Whilst we consider ourselves to be good fire fighters we do not believe we are always good fire managers, especially when the fire goes on into the ‘second shift’ when we have run out of fresh resources and everyone is tired. “Along with an experienced team of trainers from the Working On Fire Training Academy in Nelspruit, the LFPA was also able to secure a trainer from America,” said the LFPA’s Maritza Swanepoel in a statement . Application forms are available on the LFPA’s website at www.letabafire.co.za/ fireweek.html or contact Maritza on 082 304 9162.

Khutso Matlou
Hy is behandel
“Ons wil graag ons diepste medelye teenoor Obed se naasbestaandes uitspreek. Hy was agt jaar in ons diens en was ‘n baie waardevolle personeellid.

Nedbank donated a hundred hippo water rollers to communities around Tzaneen during a special ceremony. The Greater Tzaneen Municipality was host to the handover where Nedbank donated a hundred hippo water rollers, each with a capacity of ninety liters, to needy community members. “I don’t own a wheelbarrow and often have to borrow one from my neighbors when I need to fetch water. If a wheelbarrow is not available, I have to carry a bucket of water on my head and I’m too old for that,” said Ms Julia Ngomane, one of the recipients of a hippo. The Hippo Water Roller Project is part of Nedbank’s R9 million water stewardship programme (funded by the Nedbank Foundation) which aims to provide clean water to rural South Africans. Mr Steven Madzunga from Nedbank explained that the water rollers were donated to communities in all 34 wards of the GTM, with at least three people from each ward receiving their own hippo. The four recipients were invited to come and receive their water rollers. One of them, Ms Sophia Makwela (43), said that she was overjoyed when she heard that she was receiving a hippo, especially since she had been struggling with back problems due to carrying water buckets on her head and pushing wheelbarrows. — Khutso Matlou

Another community blames SAPS for death
Parents and friends are worried that the police might be trying to cover up the death of Marothi Morris Kgatle, who was allegedly shot dead by the police on 25 December last year in front of dozens of people at Giyani Section F. It is alleged that the 35 year-old man had an argument with his girlfriend the night before Christmas. In the morning she reported the incident to the police, who came back with her to resolve the problem in an amicable manner. When two police vans approached Kgatle allegedly ran away, telling his friends that he did not want to go to jail since it was holiday and would therefore spend more days in the cells without going to court. “Suffering from the previous night’s partying, he couldn’t run too far before the police caught up with him,” explained one of the witnesses who wasoin the scene and took pictures of the incident. “He stopped running and of the two officers chasing him shot him in the head,” claimed the witness.” Another witness said “what worried me most was when I later heard on radio that the police had shot an armed man in Giyani

The body of Marothi Morris Kgatle who was gunned down by the police in December 2012 is seen here covered by a blanket. The picture was taken by one of the witnesses quoted in this report with his cell phone, despite the police threats to arrest whoever took pictures.
A few weeks ago, the Bulletin reported on the lush park at the corner of Bohemia- and Park Street that is now being used as a car wash for minibus taxis. This new business initiative has had a damaging effect on the park, because the trash from the taxis is being left in the park and thrown into the stream. The most recent photo’s reveal that this park is now also being used as a dumping-site for household rubbish! Numerous black plastic bags filled with household debris were found stacked across the park after the weekend. A member of the public commented that it is a beautiful park where she would love to have
a picnic — if it wasn’t bestrewn with people’s leftovers. What a pity, what a shame! —Khutso Matlou

Rhino patrol helicopter crashes in KNP
An aerial anti-rhino poaching patrol for “Operation Rhino” ended in tragedy on Saturday evening, when an Augusta 109 light utility helicopter crashed in Kruger National Park, killing all five SANational Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers on board. According to an Air Force member who was at the scene later this week, the closest rest camp is Olifants. While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, rumours as to the possible cause are abundant in the media. The pilot, Capt M P Chabalala, and the flight engineer, Sgt G P Ruiters, were based at Air Force Base Durban’s 15 Squadron and only arrived in the Lowveld on Friday, the day before their death. Also on board were Capt Jacobus Andries van Rensburg, Sgt Paulos Shongela Ndishishi and L/Cpl Bheki Petros Cele, who were members of 5 Special Forces Regiment in Phalaborwa. Rhino poaching in the KNP is rampant and of the 188 rhinos that have been killed in SA since January, 135 were poached in KNP. In the Hoedspruit policing area, which had been quiet on the rhino poaching front since the beginning of the year, three animals were poached over the Easter period with another four rhinos killed in the Gravelotte area during the same time. — Lin News/Kruger2Canyon

police until the paramedic arrived,” he said. According to him, the police searched the suspect and found nothing that would warrant to be shot. “Not even a knife, yet they later claimed on radio that they had shot a heavily armed man,” he said. Meanwhile the deceased’s father, Mr Robert Kgatle, said since the incident the police have never updated him of any progress regarding the case, and feared that they might be covering it up. “There are many cases where police are involved in shootings and they do go to court or someone get suspended… but with my case nothing is happening, we have never been called anywhere,” he said. Kgatle said he tried to contact the Independent Police Investigative Directorate who told him that they were still awaiting forensic test results of the gun that was involved in the shooting. Asked about the case, the provincial police spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, said “I cannot comment on the matter since it is sub judice and it’s in the hands of the IPID. The family can contact them for any progress, since this is not a police investigation.”

vs
rugby in Suid-Afrika.

Comrades substitutions open It’s that time of the year again, when Comrades Marathon runners who were unable to enter for the 2013 Ultimate Human Race during the official entry period (September — November 2012) have an opportunity to still be part of the great race through the official substitution process. Thanks to the Comrades Marathon Association’s (CMA) Substitution Rule, these Comrades Marathon hopefuls have from now until 30 April 2013 to substitute an entrant who has withdrawn, or intends to withdraw from the 2013 epic road-running challenge. The Comrades Marathon Substitution Rule was introduced for the very first time last year and now forms part of the official race rules of the world’s biggest ultra-marathon. The substitution process officially opened on 1 April. The completed application forms as speci-
fied in the Substitution Rule must reach the CMA office by 30 April 2013. There will be no extension of this deadline. Athletes still intending to submit substitution application forms are advised to visit the official Comrades Marathon website at www.comrades.com for the downloadable forms and the comprehensive list of the rules and regulations which govern the substitution process. Race director Johan van Staden said “we received just over 500 substitution applications last year and anticipate many more for the 2013 race. The Substitution Rule has been very well received by our runners and will guarantee a higher number of starters outside the Durban City Hall on 2 June 2013”. For an interview, please call Race Director Johan Van Staden on 083 625 4438. For more information: Delaine Cools on 033 897 8650.
Another defeat for Black Leopards... A late strike from Katlego Mashego saw Moroka Swallows snatch three important league points at the expense of Black Leopards in their Absa Premiership League encounter, played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening. The final score was 1-0. The goalkeepers, Greg Etafia (Swallows) and Azwinndini “Silver” Maphaha, were the top performers for the better part of the game. They repeatedly made fine saves to frustrate the attackers. Bennet Chenene almost put Swallows ahead as early as the fifth minute, but Maphaha saved his side with acrobatic keeping. The home side had two clear chances in the 12th and 14th minutes. Rodney Ramagalela received a neat pass from Raymond Monama within the box and unleashed a half volley. The shot did not give the Swallows keeper, Greg Etafia, any headache, as there was not enough power behind the ball. Their Nigerian attacker, Joshua Obaje, committed a similar blunder, following a square pass from Tiyani Mabunda. With the teams trading attacks on a regular basis, Ramagalela came close to scoring again in the 24th minute, but Etafia denied him a goal with a notable save. The Leopards’ holding midfielder, Jean Munganga, tried his luck with a long-range strike early in the last half, but the ball missed the target by inches. Lidoda Duvha introduced Abbas Amidu and sacrificed Hector Zulu in the 59th minute. The Birds responded by replacing Dikgang Mabalane with Katlego Mashego three minutes later. The visitors took the lead in the 84th minute. Bennet Chenene picked out Mashego with a cross from the right, and the striker placed a shot into the bottom corner of the net that even the excellent Maphaha couldn’t keep out. — LiN News/Limpopo Mirror
