Thousands of pupils in Limpopo are still without textbooks, according to school principals, pupils, parents, media reports, Section 27 politicians and other non-governmental organizations. This has caused Ms Desiree van der Walt, a DA member of the Limpopo Legislature, to demand the resignation of Limpopo’s Education MEC, Mr Dickson Masemola, unless he can “sort out the mess in his department”. Van der Walt told Bulletin that the comments by Mr Panyaza Lesufi, Limpopo Education Department spokesperson, that “there was nothing he could do about textbook shortages in Limpopo” is not acceptable. “Government officials are paid by the public to know what to do, particularly when we have had a recurring problem
over years, such as the textbook saga in this province. “In fact in a reply to the DA’s parliamentary question in the National Assembly, Minister Angie Motshekga said the procurement of textbooks has always been the competence of the provincial department, notwithstanding Section 100 administration. “It is increasingly clear that the genesis of this problem has been the ineptitude at the provincial department of education,” she said. As the MEC Masemola cannot hide behind national administration, Van der Walt added.

Maake still on the job There is no truth in rumors that the Mopani District Municipality’s manager, Mr Tim Maake, has been suspended. This assurance came from the MDM’s spokesperson, Mr Neville Shikwambana, yesterday. Maake was arrested and appeared in court more than a month ago. Officers of the SAPS’s commercial branch arrested Maake, allegedly in connection with fraud linked to the Dandoni Dam pipeline. Maake has not been charged yet and charges will probably be put to him when he next appears in court.

Vlieg praat met die Volk en krap waar dit jeuk...
Vlieg het onverwags die week effe ongesteld geraak. Doom ingekry. Dit was gelukkig nie ‘n dodelike dosis nie, maar die vlerkies hang so ‘n bietjie en die ou koppie pyn. Vlieg is ge-doom so al om sy lyfie se soom — met giffies wat verlam, hy voel hy’s aangeklam; maar daar’s hoop hy sal weer kan loop; — mettertyd selfs weer vlieg — en ook oor jóú sondes kan bieg.
Maar na sy volkome herstel sal hy weer moeilikheid kom bestel, deur te krap en te pla waar dit nie jeuk om mense se gemoedere op te neuk. Wees tog maar geduldig want Vlieg is nogal eintlik geweldig gesteld op die mense se heil en wil hy beslis niemand opkeil. Tot volgende week. Groetnis.

Is dit ‘n kwaal wat in die winter vererger? ... • Een van Eddie se voor(ste)manne sê die blou diamantvormige pilletjies is nie al nie. Daar is glo sulke rubberagtige, balonagtige goeters wat ook al ‘n probleem of drie veroorsaak het. Maar die voorman wil nie verder praat nie. Swyg soos die graf. Sê hy’s skrikkerig vir Jakob Regop en sy vriend Driesie van die binneland...

Nuwe wasplek in Tzaneen Tzaneen het ‘n nuwe wasplek op straat, waar die water (en elektrisiteit) gratis is. Die wassery is op die hoek van Plantasieweg en Impalastraat in die Ou Nywerheidsgebied. Mnr Ghanshyam Vkani ‘n Man is Dinsdagmiddag helderoordag in Tzaneen deur twee kapers met vuurwapens gedreig en uit sy bakkie gepluk. “Die hele voorval het sowat dertig sekondes geduur”, sê mnr Ghanshyam Vkani. Hy is voor Tzaneen Hardeware se winkel in Duikerstraat in die Ou Nywerheidsgebied van sy bakkie beroof, nadat die kapers hom om en by 17:30 oorval het. Hy wou ‘n werker by die winkel oplaai, toe twee vermomde mans hom van twee genader, uit sy bakkie gepluk en daarmee weggejaag het. Die polisie het die verlate bakkie later die aand by Butterfield naby die buster-
minus in die dorp gekry. Volgens Vkani was die mans vermoedelik agter kontant en hy is glo R4 000 en twee rybewyse, wat in die voertuig was, kwyt. Dit was egter nie die enigste onheil wat dié week in Tzaneen afgespeel het nie. Booswigte het Woensdag in die vroeë oggendure by drie huise (naby mekaar) in Florapark ingebreek. Volgens Maimele is slegs ‘n skootrekenaar uit een van
die huise gebuit. Inwoners van die ander huise het ‘n keel opgesit en die inbreker vermoedelik afgeskrik. Verder is twee kleinhoewes by Lushof en een by Hamawasha ook vroeg Woensdagoggend geteister. Mnr Johan Kruger sê die draad om sy erf is geknip en ‘n paar goed is uit sy lapa gesteel. Hy sê ‘n ander kleinhoewe het ook Saterdag onder booswigte deurgeloop, waar klere van ‘n wasgoedlyn gesteel is. Detectives hard at work The Tzaneen Cluster’s police detectives are busy sweeping the streets and providing the court with enough evidence to put criminals behind bars. During the week seven suspects were sentenced and the verdicts were as follows: Sthembiso Riold Khosa was sentenced to four months imprisonment for theft. Warent Machimane will also spend four months in prison, after being found guilty of theft. Stanely Mathye was sentenced and found guilty of assault GBH and malicious damage to property. Mathye was sentenced to one year imprisonment. Tebogo Patrick Malatui and Dimakatso Sebaki Mashabela were also sentenced to one year imprisonment for malicious damage to property and assault GBH. Orgain Mkhabele and Bafana Masango will both spend eight months behind bars after they were found guilty of theft.

The Bolobedu police apprehended 81 suspects during the past week, strengthening their fight against crime. Among those arrested were twenty suspects for public drinking and another twenty for assault GBH. Four people were detained for housebreaking and theft while two were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. A separate arrest of theft was made while three

Nine medals for Tzn SAPS The Limpopo police hosted the SAPS National Athletics Championships in Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba stadium and Tzaneen Cluster police also participated in various items. Nine provinces participated and Limpopo achieved the sixth position with the Western Cape taking the win. The host province walked away with nineteen gold medals, fourteen bronze and 23 silver. The Tzaneen Cluster came back home with nine medals. Capt Rain Moreko won gold for the 1 500 m record, gold for 800 m and bronze for 200 m. Sgt Matthews Raolane brought back a silver medal for cross country, silver for 5 000 m and another silver for 1 500 m. Const Gladstone Shabangu participated in the long-jump and won a gold medal (record) as well as a gold for javelin. Const Millicent Mohale participated in shotput and won a bronze medal. Capt Moreko said the police are looking forward to participating in the next SAPS National Athletics. His hope is on the Tzaneen Cluster to bring more gold medals home.

Tzaneen police bust 41 In a stern fight against crime the police of Tzaneen apprehended 41 suspects over the past week. The suspects were charged after various offences. Seven of the suspects were arrested for assault GBH, while three were arrested for assault common and one for sexual assault. Thirteen people were detained for shoplifting, five for theft, while two were arrested for robbery common and one for the possession of copper cables. Six suspects were arrested for the possession of dagga and three for drunken driving. Meanwhile, the police in Modjadjiskloof have detained ten people for drinking in public and four people were arrested for violating the Road Traffic Act. Eight hawkers were arrested for trading without a license, three suspects were caught for possession of dagga and one person was arrested for the posession of a dangerous weapon.
Obey the Road Traffic Act Sixteen motorists were arrested by the Letsitele police for contravening the Road Traffic Act during the week. In fighting crime the police also managed to arrest eight suspects for assault and four offenders were detained for burglary. Three people were arrested for burglary of a business; two suspects were arrested for illegal gambling. Only one person was arrested for drinking in public and more single arrests were made. One suspected rapist was arrested, one person was arrested for theft, one suspect was arrested for robbery and one person spent a night behind bars and paid fine of admission of guilt (R100) for irresponsible conduct.

Hierdie lewensasem wat Hy vir die kerk gegee het, is die asem van ons geestelike lewe; die lewe wat verlang na God; die lewe wat die liefde en genade van God in hierdie wêreld tasbaar wil maak.; die lewe waarvan die burgerskap in die hemel is. Pinksterfees is die fees van die lewensasem van God. Hierdie lewensasem van God is nie beperk tot die kerk nie. Psalm 103 sê dit laat ook nuwe lewe uit die grond spruit. Alhoewel Pinkster ons na die hemel laat verlang, herinner dit ons ook aan ons band met die grond. Mooi naweek en Pinkster!

Psalm 104 vers 30: “U gee die lewensasem en daar is lewe; ook uit die grond laat U nuwe lewe spruit.” Die Hebreeuse woord wat in hierdie vers vertaal is met “lewensasem” is dieselfde woord wat vertaal word met “gees” en “wind”. Daarom dat die 1953-vertaling lees: “U stuur u Gees uit, hulle word geskape; en U maak die gelaat van die aarde nuut.” (Eie kursiverings. ) Die Heilige Gees is God se lewensasem. In Genesis 2 vers 7 word vertel hoe God sy lewensasem in die mens ingeblaas het.

Join the Tzaneen Eco Club in listening to Gavin Selfe’s account of the discovery of a new and pristine cave system in Botswana. The interesting talk will be at the Macadamia Village Community Centre tonight (17 May) at 19:00. Selfe, a geologist and geophysicist, was involved with a geophysical survey for buried caverns in the remote Drotskys and Koanaka cave areas in North-Western Botswana. The project led to the development of the new Gcwihaba Caves National Park, which has been cited for World Heritage Status. The method by which the new caves have been located, accessed and explored is what
makes the project unique. By applying scientific, engineering and caving skills, the mystery and beauty of the underground caves are now being revealed. The new caves are completely buried and it is believed this is the first time humans have seen their spectacular formations. To date no early human remains have been found in the caves, but a number of interesting wildlife discoveries have been made. Visitors are welcome to attend for a small fee of R20. When the colossal Mall of the North opened in Polokwane, Manyane moved to the Foschini store there where she realised that being a manager was definitely not child’s play. She had fourty members of staff working under her and admits that it was quite challenging. Working at Pep, Manyane is now in her element. She now only has eight people working under her and she is learning from and growing with the Pep-group. She takes care of all the managerial duties within the store, attending to the payment of salaries, interviewing and hiring of staff, disciplines and

merchandising. She works six days a week and one Sunday every month. And even though the hours are long, Manyane says “If you love it, you’ll enjoy it”. She also loves seeing customers satisfied, being respected and feeling at home in the store. Pep Home is known for their array of affordable home decorating and household items — which makes it possible for families to create a beautiful home on a small budget. Manyane says that the store has also opened her mind to home decorating. “I now love decorating and most of the things in my home are from Pep,” she admits laughingly. Manyane is busy building a house for herself in Seshego, where she visits over weekends. During the week she stays in Lenyenye and makes use of a taxi to get to work and back. “I am looking to buy a car, but I have to decide between finishing my house first and investing in a car. It is very expensive”, she says. After her father passed away several years ago, Manyane struggled to keep head above water. Her mom did not work, which left her with the responsibility of taking care of the family while she was still at college. “I realised I had to pull up my socks and focus on what is more important.” For a

while she had to sacrifice getting her hair and nails done, as her salary was used to finish building her family’s house and to put bread on the table. Although she thoroughly misses the entertainment the city has to offer, she enjoys spending time indoors with her four year-old son, Morongoa. They enjoy colouring, building blocks and watching movies together. She is passionate about children and would like to start a nursery as soon as she is done building her house. She feels that there is a need for good, reliable nurseries. Except for her dream to have her own business someday, Manyane firmly believes in Pep’s “Sikhula Kunye”-culture (meaning: growing together). She would like to grow more with Pep and dreams of becoming a CEO within the next three to five years. Do customers ever get surprised when she introduces herself as the manager of the store? I am sure they do, but when I pay attention to their needs and give them what they need from a manager, they leave the store pleased.” Manyane would like to be remembered for being a successful and independent woman, much like the inspirational Oprah Winfrey whom she admires. “Oprah is helpful to others and she doesn’t choose races.” As she returns to the store she gives one of her colleagues a high-five — also known to them as the ‘Pepgreeting’. “I don’t believe managers should be treated differently from other staff members. We treat each other with dignity and respect”, she says sweetly.

Get a free photo shoot by entering for this ambitious initiative by Katryn Barwise (last year’s Miss Limpopo and currently a regional finalist for Miss Earth SA 2013) and the Tzaneng Mall. Take part and enjoy the opportunity to grow as a person and also to make a difference in the process! Create awareness with a group for Re-using, Reducing and Recycling, to contribute to a greener earth! This is a great opportunity for local girls to pursue a professional modelling career by being the Face of Tzaneng Mall. The winner will enjoy a modelling contract for one year, and an opportunity to be part of Tzaneng Mall’s marketing campaign — by appearing on posters, other marketing material etcetera. This is not just an ordinary pageant: the

Inside, you can expect a host of rally-spec interior components, including an integrated safety structure, HANS-compatible SPARCO Competition racing seats, a cockpit with an LCD gear indicator, control light and MONIT trip computer, a central control panel, a map reading light and an electric fire extinguisher. As far as the engine is concerned, the Adam Rallye R2 is powered by a 1.6-liter ECOTEC 16V engine with variable camshaft phasing that produces 185 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque when adjusted to its racing configurations. In addition, the rally car also carries an adjustable chassis setup with asphalt and gravel settings, providing the kind of traction and handling needed for a rally car. The car’s brakes are taken care of by a hydraulic ‘fly-off ’ handbrake to go with Brembo four-piston front brake calipers. Full details of the Opel Adam Rallye R2 will be unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Audi gets spicy new location Audi’s plans for a car plant worth the equivalent of about R11.6-billion in Mexico is said to benefit the Q5 production. SAN JOSE CHIAPA, Mexico - Outside this small, dusty town in the heart of Mexico, Audi is making history as the first German luxury brand to set up a complete car plant in Mexico. The Detroit News has reported that Audi is determined not to suffer quality issues in Mexico such as those experienced by rivals BMW and Mercedes who chose North America for their assembly operations. It has begun an elaborate training programme, three years before the plant, involving an investment equivalent to about R11.6-billion, starts production in 2016. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, the DetNews reported, explained how the factory would become the brand’s 13th foreign production facility and would supply markets globally. “Mexico was chosen very deliberately. In strategic terms, this country is the linchpin between North and South America. With more than 40 free-trade agreements, this country is an ideal export base,” he said. The automaker bought the 400ha site in September 2012 and is enhancing existing infrastructure, including road and rail connections. When at full capacity in 2016, the plant will produce 150 000 of the next generation Q5 SUV. Audi expects to generate 3800 jobs at the plant and 15 000 jobs at a nearby supply park near where VW has a major factory. According to the Detroit News the automaker will spend the equivalent of about R133 billion in supplier contracts for the Q5. As the biggest profit generator in the VW Group worldwide, Audi has set ambitious growth goals. Stadler said: “By 2020 we anticipate annual shipments of more than 300 000 cars in the whole of North America, including more than 200 000 in the US, so by 2020 every seventh Audi from our worldwide production will be sold in the northern half of this continent. “Then, we will have achieved our target and strengthened America as the third pillar of our unit sales alongside Asia and Europe. The all new, 2014 Mercedes Benz S Class will be released this week
The W222 — which will not contain a single light bulb we’re told, only LEDs — will come in two lengths that have the same wheelbases as the current W221 (we only get the long wheelbase in the US) but are longer, lower and wider than the current car. Inside, along with those two 12.3-inch TFT screens, are a pair of back seats in the First Class Seating package that look outstanding. It looks like three models will come at launch. The twin-turbo V8 in the S550 goes up to 4,7 liters in capacity from 4,6 and gets 449 horsepower, a 20 hp bump over the present car, and 516 pound-feet of torque. The S350 Bluetec sticks with the 3.0 liter V6 but will get 258 horsepower, an 18 hp increase, and 457 lbft of torque. The 3.5 liter V6 and electric motor combo in the S400 Hybrid will get 302 hp, a jump of 27. The listed 0-60 time of the S550 is 4,8 seconds, but like it’s brethren it is limited to a 250 km/h top speed.

A Toyota sports car has sold for more than $1 million to a collector in the United States. The mint condition Toyota 2000GT, one of only 351 built, was sold by RM Auctions for $US1.15 million. The 2000GT was Japan’s answer to the Jaguar E-Type. Co-developed with Yamaha, the low-slung sports car was powered by a 2.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine that was good for 112kW and a top speed of 217km/h. With its aluminium body, disc brakes and double overhead camshafts, the car showcased Japanese technology to the rest of the world at a time when the
nation was trying to establish itself as a global force in the automotive industry. Two specially built convertible versions of the car starred alongside Sean Connery in the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice. They were built because Connery was too tall to fit in the hardtop versions. Repected car magazine Road and Track said the 2000GT was “one of the most exciting and enjoyable cars we’ve drive”, comparing it favourably to the Porsche 911. At the time of its release,

Makro, Groot, Medium of Klein? Saterdag lees Oubal in die grootste Afrikaanse dagblad ‘n brief van ene Marius Dickenson van Naboomspruit, waarin Marius dit as skandalig bestempel dat ‘n groo tskool van Limpopo, met dertien Cravenweekspelers (is die finale spanne al aangekondig?), vanjaar in die medium skole-kategorie aan die Beeldtrofeekompetisie deelneem. Oubal kan twee en twee bymekaar sit en wis toe dadelik daar word van ‘n plaaslike skool gepraat. Oubal het toe ‘n bietjie navraag gedoen en ‘n paar ontstellende dinge ontdek. Een van Oubal se vriende wys hom daarop dat die deelnamekategorie voorheen bepaal is deur die aantal spanne wat ‘n skool in sy plaaslike liga inskryf — maar dat dit in 2011 verander is, sodat die totale aantal seuns in ‘n skool vir kategorisering gebruik word. Vir Oubal klink dit heel billik. In 2012 gebeur daar toe egter iets eienaardigs, volgens vriend — skole wat duidelik in die groot skool-kategorie hoort,
speel toe medium skole en die genoemde groot skool sit met ‘n enkele opponent in sy liga en geen tuiswedstryde nie. Oubal se vriend het die speurvernuf van ‘n Sherlock Holmes en hy ontdek toe dat die Noordvaalskolerugbyvereniging wéér die kategorie-vereistes verander het. Volgens dié nuwe bepalings word ‘n formule gebruik waar die ras-samestelling van ‘n skool in ag geneem word — ‘n swart kind tel klaarblyklik minder as ‘n wit kind, in terme van getalle. Dít in die jaar 2012 van onse liewe Heer! Oubal wonder wat die Menseregte- en Gelykheidskommissie hieroor sal sê? Soos te verstane is hierdie nuwe kategorie-vereistes nie so openlik gepubliseer soos dié van 2011 nie en Oubal se vriend sê hy kon tot op hede nog nie sy hande op ‘n skriftelike weergawe lê nie, maar verskeie hooggeplaastes verseker hom dit bestaan. Hoe dit ook al sy, die groot skool onder beskuldiging ontdek toe dat hy ook kwalifiseer as ‘n medium skool en gevolglik, in
‘n poging om meer plaaslike kompetisie te kry, skryf hy in 2013 vir daardie kategorie in. Intussen het dié skool se veronderstelde plaaslike opponente hulle aan die Limpopo-skoleliga onttrek, en nou sit die skool wéér hoog en droog. Dit is vir Oubal baie duidelik wie die varke in hiedie verhaal is. Eerstens, die Noordvaalskolerugbyvereniging wat met ‘n uiters bedenklike kategoriseringsmetode vorendag gekom het. Tweedens, die Limpopo Hoërskole-rugbyvereniging wat toelaat dat skole hulle kan losmaak van die bestaande strukture, maar hul spelers kom steeds in aanmerking vir verteenwoordigende spanne. Oubal is jammer, jy is òf in òf uit, maar nie albei nie. Vir die rekord: Oubal is dit eens met Marius Dickenson dat dit skandalig is dat ‘n skool wat die groot skool-kategorie twee keer in die afgelope vyf jaar gewen het nou potensieel teen skole soos Midstream College, Oosterlig en Goudrif in die medium skole meeding. Letaba is onstuitbaar Letaba het toe Saterdag in snerpende koue en met ‘n parmantige wind wat toestande verder vir lekker rugby bederf het, Pietersburg Dorp (PD) in Polokwane aangedurf. Die slegte weer het die manne van Letaba egter nie afgeskrik nie en hulle het PD laat les opsê. Die eerste span wat baie stadig (seker weens die gure toestande) begin het, het egter hoe later hoe kwater gespeel, en uiteindelik met 36-5 gewen! In die tweede helfte het die manne in groen behoorlik aan die gang gekom en die telbord laat rol. Die voorspelers het die grondslag gelê en met goeie skrumwerk PD goed opgedreun, waarna die agterlyn kon baljaar en gate in PD se verdediging geruk het. Die hele pak voorspelers het goed gespeel, maar veral stut Quinton Kruger en agtsteman Carl Theunissen het uitgeblink. Agter het die staatmaker heelagter JP Kardos weer gewys hy is vir hoër louere bestem. Hy het PD behoorlik gestraf met teenaanvalle, wanneer daar op hom geskop is. Op losskakel het Ewald Meiring ook ‘n goeie wedstryd gehad en baie goed saam met binnesenter Deano Kruger gekombineer. Na ‘n slim beweging tussen dié twee is Deono Kruger oor vir ‘n drie. Die ander drieë is gedruk deur agtsteman
Carl Theunissen, Kardos, buitesenter Carl Holzhauzen, Meiring en slot Stoffel Vermaak. Doelskoppe: een elk deur Kardos, Meiring en Stoffel Vermaak. Letaba 2 het met skitterende spel DP 2 met 50-5 afgeransel en so die Presidentsliga vir tweede spanne gewen. Letaba se voorspelers het PD oorheers en hulle behoorlik laat les opsê in die skrums. Slot Marnus Labuschagne het uitgeblink in die lynstane. Flank Wikus Steyn het as kaptein sy span van voor gelei, terwyl stut Jaques Borcherd PD behoorlik laat skarrel het sodra hy begin dryf het. Losskakel Andries Pitout het ‘n welkome terugkeer na ‘n lang besering gemaak en in die gure weer het hy die spel met sy skopvoet gedikteer. Heinrich Kotze het ook ‘n baie goeie dag op heelagter gehad. Letaba rus die naweek en dit bied die spelers geleentheid om die seer lywe ‘n kans op herstel te bied. Dit is goed om te sien hoe die ouer spelers en die klomp jonges kombineer. Verder is dit ook verblydend om te sien dat van ons twee hoërskole se oudspelers by die klub betrokke raak. Daar is duidelik ‘n nuwe gees vaardig in Letaba Rugbyklub. Die bestuur bring hul kant, die afrigters bring hul kant, die spelers bring hul kant… en nou moet die ondersteuners hul kant ook bring, om die klub en die spelers te ondersteun.

Zani’s Gimnastiek Akademie het skoonskip gemaak tydens Saterdag se Nasionale SAGF Klubspantrofee-toernooi. Vier gimnaste het op Vlak 2 deelgeneem: Chanté de Marillac (algeheel tweede), Lee Riley (algeheel vyfde), Antoinette Bredenkamp (algeheel vyfde) en Annebelle Schwab. Op die foto is die vier gimnaste saam met gimnaste van Zani’s Polokwane, afrigters en beoordelaars.
Twee Vlak 3-gimnaste van Zani’s Gimnastiek Akademie het baie goed gevaar tydens die nasionale ronde van die SAGF Klubspantrofee-toernooi. Hier is Annalene Rood, me Telanie Grobler (afrigter) en Anisa Verster (algeheel tweede).
Zani’s Gimnastiek Akademie (Zani’s Tzaneen, Hoedspruit en Polokwane) het verlede Saterdag agt uit die nege klubspanbekers by die Nasionale SAGF Klubspantrofee-toernooi gewen. Die kompetisie is by Wits Universiteit gehou, met 327 gimnaste van oor die land wat deelgeneem het. Me Telanie Grobler, die afrigter van Zani’s Tzaneen, is hier saam met die Vlak 1-gimnaste: Shané Bronkhorst (algeheel vierde), Lané Kruger (algeheel tweede), Elzine Kotze (sewende) en Brigette Combrink (sesde).
The future of Black Leopards as an affiliate of the Absa Premiership division of the Premier Soccer League will be determined tomorrow afternoon. Leopards, the only Limpopo side in the country’s elite league, will travel to the Free State to wrap up their league activities for the current soccer season. Their final league match will be against Free State Stars. A win against Free State Stars will not be enough for Lidoda Duvha to escape outright relegation if the other relegation candidates, Chippa United, win their match against Amazulu. Leopards’ last hope is to finish in the second-last position and qualify for the platinum promotional playoffs, something which looks far beyond the reach of the domestic lads.
In the other Absa Premiership matches tomorrow, University of Pretoria will host Kaizer Chiefs at the Mbombela Stadium. Chiefs have already been declared the league champions. Letaba II wen Presidentsliga Letaba Rugbklub is vanjaar reg vir ‘n opmars; dit is duidelik soos daglig. Die eerste span het twee weke gelede die huidige kampioenspan van Limpopo afgestof en Saterdag het Letaba se tweede span die Presidentsliga gewen, toe hulle die sterk Pietersburg-span behoorlik ore aangesit het. Die span se afrigter, mnr Johan Smit, sê “my span het uitstekende dissipline gehandhaaf en dit is ‘n span met baie karakter”. Hy huldig ook sy spelers dat hulle getrou is met oefeninge en groot erns het met hul rugby. Letaba se eerste span het intussen ook baie goed gevaar in die Presidentsliga (Saterdag weer 36-5 gewen; berig hieroor op bl 19) en staan nou ook ‘n goeie kans om die liga te wen. “It takes more than a huge body to win a fight…” Bukiwe Nonina talks to the Bulletin outside the Giyani Boxing.
A first look at BukiweNonina does not tell much about her having enough strength to even swat a fly— not to mention beating up somebody in the boxing ring. Her tiny body reveals nothing of boxing traits or anything to be feared of.
However, the 21 year-old woman is a professional boxing champion. She has now joined Giyani Boxing Club. “It’s all in the mind and not about the body,” she says, adding that being slender is actually an advantage to her. “It gives me strength to last longer in the ring — I have watched many boxers getting destroyed in the late
