The Lie
The Facts
The Greater Tzaneen Municipality is perpetuating a blatant lie regarding “non-issues” surrounding the construction of the controversial Sasekani/ Nkowankowa road. The Bulletin appears to have been deliberately misled about the truth surrounding the project. Last week the Bulletin reported on the project, after consultation with the GTM through its spokesperson, Mr Neville Ndlala. In their reply to our enquiry the GTM “confirmed that the construction resumed”. Ndlala added that “all disputes have been resolved and that nothing would disturb the project again”.
On Friday, shortly after the Bulletin hit the streets we made further enquiries and were directed by representatives of MacP Construction to their attorney, Mr Louis Erasmus. We consulted with Erasmus, who explained to us that the direct opposite of the reported GTM claim was in fact true. “There are numerous disputes between the GTM and MacP which forms the subject matter of a current and ongoing arbitration”, he explained, and accentuated that these disputes have not been resolved. He stated that a senior advocate has already been appointed as arbitrator in this matter. “Pleadings have been exchanged and closed. We anticipate the arbitration hearing to take place during January or February next year in Pretoria.”

My vrou sê vir my: “My man, kyk na die mooi ding hier wat ek gesteel het.” Ek hoor dit en ek sê:” My vrou, gee die ding dat ek sien.” Ek vat dit en sit dit in my sak. Sy huil en sê: “Gee my ding, my man, gee my ding!” Maar ek wil nie en ek sê: “Nee, my vrou, ek sal nie na jou luister nie. Die ander persoon sal my doodmaak.
• Old Model C schools (sometimes referred to as ‘traditional white schools’) are unhappy with their means of finances. But if you look at their facilities and measure that against the background of struggling schools in poorer communities, the question arises of whether they have reason(s) to complain. What do you say?

Sheenaugh-lee Thompson Well let’s face facts here they are used to certain standards which they have upheld for many many years I am not saying what they are doing is right because I don’t think so but if you look at yourself you have set certain standards for yourself in your own life which you uphold whether you can afford it or not because it’s how you’ve been raised and the same goes for these schools. • The question actually has nothing to do with discrepancies between race groups or communities. Fact of the matter is that established schools with excellent and expensive non-essential facilities nowadays complain that they can hardly make their budgets. The question is not about who paid for it initially or how they managed to establish all the fancy facilities in the past. If a person bought an S class Mercedes Benz in good times and now can’t afford it or can’t afford to buy new tyres for the fancy car, will it help to cry foul? No! Scale down to a smaller model that would be affordable, is the realistic solution. The question meant to establish whether schools can continue to spend money on non-essential luxuries while they complain about their tight finances. People have to accept that times have changed and people across the board have to manage their money extremely carefully. — Editor

New director at GTM shares his vision ble knowledge in the various sectors of the department, until he joined the Makhado Municipality in 2008 as the director of community services. He moved from Makhado to join the GTM. According to Mugari, his main vision is to build a competent, passionate and motivated work force in order to reach the strategic objectives of the council. “The municipality has competent and committed staff to take the mission and vision of the municipality to greater heights. We will also aim to restore their confidence and passion in the work,” Mugari said. He added that he likes reading books and magazines in his spare time. He is also an avid soccer enthusiast who loves to attend soccer games whenever time allows. — Michael Sakuneka michael@bulletin.us.com
Case against MDM director, Sleebok employee postponed The case of the former director of water services of the Mopani District Municipality, Itumeleng Charmine Ledwaba (photo), has been postponed to 28 October, pending further investigations. This comes after an allegation of having presented fake documents about her qualifications in order to get the job. Ledwaba is out on bail of R50 000. According to senior public prosecutor Solly Ngobeni the case was postponed to allow the accused enough time to consult
with her legal team. A former Sleebok employee, Linda Shingwenanes, also had her case of fraud postponed to 20 October, pending further investigations. She was arrested for allegedly defrauding Sleebok by providing fake invoices and using the money which she collected from clients for personal fulfilment and enrichment. — Arnold Mbunda

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s director of corporate services is keen to restore the GTM staff’s confidence and passion in their work. However he doesn’t say anything about restoring ratepayers’ and residents’ confidence in the GTM. Mr Elia Leveus Mugari (49) was appointed as the director for corporate services for the GTM, replacing former acting director Thulani Thwala. The father of three was born in Elim near Makhado and matriculated at Lemana High School. He furthered his studies at the Mmadikoti Advanced Training Institute where he obtained a national diploma in public health in 1986. In 1994 he obtained a national higher diploma in public health at the University of the Witwatersrand. They went out to investigate and found a silver VW Polo had overturned on their premises. It is alleged that the driver was driving the car at a high speed and lost control as he was taking the corner. Both the driver and his occupants fled the scene. A case of malicious damage to property and reckless and negligent driving has been opened. Police are still investigating the incident and no suspects have been arrested. Those with information should help Police in arresting the culprits. Call

The Ritavi Police Communications Officer, const Vongani Ngobeni, informed us that he will be on leave until 29 November. The SAPS failed to nominate somebody else to communicate with us, despite promises to “make a plan”. We thus have no crime report for Ritavi this week. The problem of communication officers not being available has become common in recent times. The Haenertsburg Police Communications Officer also failed to come back to us this week. So we also apologise to the Haenertsburg community who would have appreciated to know how crime is being fought in their area.
Hawkers beware
Fourty offenders were placed behind bars by Tzaneen police for contravention of the Roads Traffic Act and 23 hawkers were arrested for trading without a licence. Nine people were arrested for drinking in public, four for illegal gambling and three for shoplifting. Four people were also arrested for common assault, four for assault GBH and one for crimen injuria; three people were arrested for theft under false pretences, one for theft and one for drunken driving. Two people were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property, one for malicious damage to property, one for rape and one for murder. Tzaneen Police warned the public against individuals promising them jobs and stealing their belongings. A 15 year-old boy was approached by a man inside a shop and promised a job. The man allegedly gave the boy a bank card and told him to withdraw money. He insisted that the boy leaves his cell phone and money with him. The boy found that there was no money available in the account and when he returned he found that the man had disappeared with his belongings.

Uit: Lig & Lewe deur Attie van der Colf
Kosbare waarheid
Offergawes

Eintlik by die koning se hart. Gevra, in eerbied.

Water leaks
Joan Provis from Haenertsburg, writes: A front page article in the Bulletin recently warned us of a posibility of a twelve year drought. The Minister of Water Affairs has warned us of a country-wide water shortage; as an agricultural area we are aware of the importance of water. However, our local custodians of our local water supply, Lepelle Northern Water, seem to be unaware of its importance, or that it is important to maintain the main pipeline from the Ebenezer Dam to Polokwane. For nearly two years there has been a leak near the Vodacom Tower, only a few kilometres from the dam, and my information is that a local farm dam a few kilometres on is kept full by another leak. How many more leaks are there between the dam and the sixty odd kilometres to Polokwane? Is it too much to ask for inspectors to get off their chairs and do a little bit of walking, checking that there are no leaks and if there are to have them promptly repaired?
A shock
a shocking indictment on how the ANC has misgoverned this province. Of five departments nationally which have consistently received disclaimers, three are in Limpopo. They are the departments of Education, Health and Public Works. These have never had a clean outcome ever since this administration took over in 2009. These are departments which together account for more than half of our entire provincial budget. As the AG has himself acknowledged, this means service delivery in the critical areas provided by these departments is severely diminished. Furthermore, overall our province has regressed instead of showing improvement on audit results. This is because the departments of Agriculture and Social Development have now added to the list of bad performers. This is to be expected, as the AG himself noted; there is a reluctance to charge departments’ officials where they transgress the laws. Officials who are entrusted with public finance deal with it recklessly with no consequences to follow. This effectively means that the goal to reach clean audits by 2014 will simply not be achieved. It is the people of this province who bear the brunt each time a single cent is wasted. Limpopo’s situation contrasts sharply with the Western Cape governed by the DA, where clean, efficient and better services have become the norm of governance.
Desiree van der Walt, DA Limpopo Legislature Caucus Leader, writes: During a Legislature sitting, the AG presented the audit results for 2012/13 for all Limpopo’s provincial departments. These audit outcomes are

“Sy is definitief my soort mens”, sê Kalla.

Kalla was

Kalla sê op sy beurt, “my vryetyd is Lané se tyd.”

On Thursday last week Red October was also celebrated in Tzaneen. A gathering of South Africans asked government to stop the farm murders, to end discrimination against a minority group, and to stem the tide of violence, crime and poverty. Some seventy people gathered at Tzaneen Swaarvoertuie and sent red balloons up into the skies in the hope of a better future for all. Seen here are Mss Carolien Grobbelaar and Altia du Toit.

God didn’t forget you, Ouma Nellie By Louis Changuion This past Monday (14 October) I attended the memorial service in Haenertsburg of a woman who will be remembered for more than one reason. Ouma Nellie Marshman who resided in Macadamia Village in Tzaneen for the past eight years passed away on Wednesday 9 October at the age of 102
The oldest and the youngest of the family: Ouma Nellie and her great-great grandchild Cloé Halkon.
years 1 month and 9 days. On her 100th birthday, two years ago she said that she thought God had forgotten her. Nellie Marshman was probably the last of the first generation of Afrikaners of East Africa and even more remarkable probably the last person to be born in East Africa when it was still under German colonial rule. In the aftermath of the Anglo-Boer War (1899 — 1902), thousands of Afrikaners (Boers) left South Africa to start a new life elsewhere. In the diaspora of Afrikaners, some relocated to Argentina, others to the USA and about 2 000 to British East Africa (today Kenya) and German East Africa (today Tanzania). They left for different reasons, but the main motivation for leaving their motherland was economic considerations. The two ex-Boer republics were left in chaos because of the scourged earth policy applied by the British towards the end of the war in South Africa. Nellie’s parents, not yet married, were in the group that left SA in 1904 to settle in German East Africa. Her father, Daniel George van Wyk, started farming at Oldonyo Sambu on the river Ngare Ol Motoni near Arusha not far from Mount Kilimanjaro. Some of the Afrikaners settled at Ngare Nanyuki close to Mount Meru. Soon the Afrikaners gave the name Kampfontein to their main settlement at Oldonyo Sambu. Daniel van Wyk came back to South Africa in 1906 to fetch his brother Adriaan. Before the end of that year, they were back at Kampfontein. Petronella (Nellie) van Wyk was born on 1 September 1911 at Ngare in the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro, near what is today the town of Moshi. Nellie was three years old when the First World War started in Europe between
England, her allies, and Germany. Soon the African colonies of the warring countries were implicated in the war. Nellie was seven years old when the war finally ended in 1918. When I spoke to her a few years ago, she vividly recalled the excitement when it became known that Gen Smuts and the SA troops were coming to fight Gen Von Lettow-Vőrbeck and his Ouma Nellie and her first husband Mike Behr and three of their grandchildren — when they were still German colonial army. Many Afrikaners crossed the border into staying in East Africa. The girl in the centre is Linda British territory after the war but the Van Halkon, now residing on a farm near Haenertsburg. Wyk’s stayed on and stuck it out under Halkon, near Haenertsburg. the new government. German East Africa At her 100th birthday when Ouma Nelnow changed its name to Tanganyika and was ruled by England under a League of Nations lie said that she thought God had forgotten mandate, just as German South West Africa about her, as a devoted Christian, she did not mean it in a derogatory way. It actually just (now Namibia) became mandated to SA. Thus, Nellie grew up and did her school- illustrated her sense of humour: God forgot ing, first in German schools, and later un- to take her and that is why after a hundred der a British educational system. The 1960’s years she was still around. God finally did brought Uhuru to Africa. Nellie was in her remember to fetch you, Ouma Nellie. Tanganyika became independent in 1964 and became known as Tanzania. Ouma Nellie was married twice, first to Mike Behr and later to Colin Marshman. She had four children, of whom two died, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her eldest daughter, Tina Coulter, is now in her eighties and stay on a farm with her daughter, Linda Ouma Nellie and her family at her 100th birthday party

Dié Visser-vangs is effens onderbreek 6
7
9
of ongekompliseerd nie en veral Leon se geboorte was baie spanningsvol.

Vossies is soos Vissies

Letaba speel volgende Saterdag in Louis Letaba 1(21) vs Pietersburg Dorp (0) • Louis Trichardt (33) vs Letaba Barbarians (0) • Letaba 1 (40) vs Trichardt se toernooi. Letaba se spelers word UniLim (0); Louis Trichardt (17) vs Potgietersrus (12) • Dorp (29) vs Uni Lim (12) • Potgietersrus (31) vs Letaba Barbarians (5) | Halfeindstryd 1: Letaba 1(35) uitgenooi na Letaba se jaareindgeselligheid Groep A Groep B vs Potgietersrus (21) • Halfeindstryd 2: Louis Trichardt op 1 November by High Grove. (33) vs Dorp (12) • Plaat-finaal: Letaba Barbarians (33) Letaba 1 8 Louis Trichardt 8 • Emille Trollip word sterkte toegewens met sy vs UniLim (10) • Uitspeel derde en vierde plek: Dorp Dorp 4 Potgietersrus 5 gebreekte sleutelbeen, dat dit gou en volkome (14) vs Potgietersrus (12) • Beker-eindstryd: Letaba Uni Lim 0 Letaba Barbarians 4 sal herstel. 1(15) vs Louis Trichardt (12)
Pro20 skop goed af vir MHS
Final positions for clashes in the park Merensky hosted the last leg of the Rhino 7’s Tournament. It was a huge success, and the visiting schools truly enjoyed it. Excellent rugby was enjoyed by everyone. The schools that qualified for the Battle in the Kruger National Park (tomorrow) are: Anker, Nylstroom, Merensky, Wonderboom, Garsfontein, Florida, Waterkloof, Middelburg, Hans Strijdom, Nelspruit, HTS Middelburg, Rustenburg, Centurion, Monument, Menlopark and Potchefstroom Volkskool.
The Alumni of Stanford Lake College competed in a rugby match against the Alumni of St Dunstan’s College in Benoni. The game was played in good spirit and both schools were very happy to see so many Old Boys attending this ‘reunion’ event. The match was played in four quarters of 15 minutes each and rolling substitutes had to be used. Stanford managed to win the game by 40-29, but both supporters and Alumni from both schools enjoyed the fun and banter. Well done to St Dunstan’s for organizing such a wonderful event and to SLC Alumni for a game well played. Seen in the photo are both teams.
