A member of the legal fraternity impersonates a sheriff of the court with “documents” to bolster his credibility.
Documents shown constitute only a small number of the documents in our possession. Closer inspection will prove the fraudulent nature of his “credentials”.
Be Aware!
An extemporary sheriff who is posing as the “Head Sheriff” of Ritavi (there is no such title), has in the last couple of weeks swindled people out of hundreds of thousands of rands, sold houses on the strenght of fake documents, “repossessed” vehicles, is illegally operating a trust account, named “The Sheriff Ritavi Trust Account” (see bank slip below), has had his own rubber stamp made to make things look real and genuine (although the stamp refers to the “head sheriff”) and, and, and... People who have been done in by this man, Mr N D (Ngwako) Kgatla, say the SA Council for Sheriffs are doing nothing about the situation. Kgatla uses at least five cell numbers, but we have failed to get him to answer any of the numbers in the past three days. We are in possession of numerous documents confirming various transactions, all of them fake. One estate agent from Pretoria has bought three houses from Kgatla, sold to her as reposssed. She has paid about R300 000 to Kgatla and now stand to loose every cent. Since we are still busy investigating

Missing Matimu Mathebula in his graduation gown. He had graduated to grade R and was to begin his schooling at the local primary when the schools open.
Confusion reigns over the circumstances surrounding the odd and mysterious disappearance of Matimu Mathebula.
As the police and community continue the search for five-year-old Matimu Mathebula who disappeared on Sunday 1 January at Mapuve, Giyani, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remains a mystery. According to his aunt, Ms Asnat Mathebula, the boy asked to use the toilet that Sunday morning. He was told to go to a nearby hill because he is too young to use the dug pit. “His cousin, Khensani Mathebula (12) was outside. She went with him but later returned without him,” she explained. She said Khensani could not give a clear answer to Matimu’s whereabouts. The family, police and the community embarked on a massive search but with no luck. After a few days of unsuccessful searches, backed by the police dog unit, the family had finally given up hope of finding the boy alive. “It was raining that day. Anything could have happened to him,” she said. Khensani and Matimu are apparently orphans who were raised by their paternal grandmother. This prompted allegations that they were abused by the family. The family, who accused the cousin of lying to the police about Matimu’s whereabouts, vehemently denied this. “Khensani is misleading the police. This is why they have not brought her back since they took her on Sunday. We heard that they took her to a hospital to be treated for wounds she apparently sustained during the search,” explained Ms Mathebula. She denied that the wounds were from beatings. “As far as I know she sustained injuries on the elbows and
forehead when she fell during the search,” she said. Another relative Ms Sophie Makhubela, also denied that the children were being abused. “Anybody can tell you that they were treated like the other children,” she said. The case took a turn for the worst when the community ran amok over the past weekend burning down the houses of those suspected to be involved. According to provincial police spokesman brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, 22 people were arrested for destroying the properties of the people who were said to be involved. “Nineteen people appeared in court while two minors were released.” The family is apparently worried that the focus of the police has now shifted to the arrested people and not to find Matimu. The family said the person they believe is responsible for the disappearance of the boy is walking free. Mulaudzi said Khenzani is in hospital under police care. “She had been beaten badly. For her own safety, she will remain in the social worker’s care.” Giyani police spokesman w/o Thomas Makhubele said the police were still searching for the boy, but refused to comment about the alleged abuse.

They identified a family within the area of their training institution that needed a house. “We would like to thank all the sponsors, especially our school, Madzahisi College, which donated the building material. “Without you it would not have been possible for us to help the Ndlovu family who desperately needed a house,” said Ms Given Serepong who spoke on behalf of the students. The Message
Vrydag 10 Januarie 2014
Rev Ron Reiners Anglican Church Tzaneen

Desiree van der Walt, DA Limpopo Education spokesperson, 082 452 0444, writes: The DA congratulates all successful matriculants for the 2013 school year in Limpopo. The province’s overall pass mark is 71,8 %. The figure is up from 66,9 % in 2012 and 63,9 in 2011. Although these statistics seem encouraging, it requires significant further study before we can de-
Welcome to the 2014, yes, God has given us yet another start to the year. Will it bring the same problems that 2013 held for us or will it be the start of something new, something exciting? Will we just fall back into our old ways of life, or will we embrace the chance to change? Old habits die hard, or so it is said, but we can change and change for the better of everyone around us. We will start to live the life that God has predestined for us by reaching out to loved ones and even to those we consider not up to our standards? I don’t know about you but I have a feeling that this is going to be the year of change, but there is what some people might see as a downside, we need to get back to Christ. It is about time we put aside our petty differences and embrace the reason why God created us. We need to start loving each other as Christ loved us and only then will we start to see the change that God wants to bring about, He loves each and all of us so much so why not stretch out your arms and receive His many blessings. Turn back to Christ should be our main objective this year, then it will be an exciting year. Blessings
finitively state that Limpopo is making progress in delivering better education. The results come amid growing concerns over the quality of the matric qualification and questions around whether the pass mark criteria are being consistently lowered.
Independent research supported by the recent Annual National Assessment results at schools countrywide, shows that our schooling system remains in a critical state — irrespective of changing percentage passes at matric level. The DA is particularly concerned at the quality of passes. We need matrics to achieve high marks in science and maths, and to qualify for university study by achieving matric exemption-level passes. Passing at the 30% level does not prepare matrics to compete successfully in a modern economy. We are also concerned about retention of grade 10 and 11 learners in the system. It is easy to superficially inflate the pass rate by holding back, or forcing out, students likely to fail. The important question is how many of our pupils actually reached matric, and how many dropped out in grade 10 or 11? Our focus should be on retaining as many pupils as possible and helping them to pass with the best grades, and skills, at the end of matric. We must be careful not to rush to celebrate these results when so many important questions remain unanswered.
Five steps to a better student life in 2014 As post-matric celebrations become memories to treasure, this year’s school-leavers stand on the threshold of their next big life adventure— starting their post-school studies. Going from home and school to tertiary education and a new environment is daunting, and the University of Life is set to hand out a few unexpected lessons on the way. “Unfortunately, the business of life and living sometimes overwhelms young people as they enter this new period. So much so, that the business of studying and achieving the longed-for qualification sometimes disappears into thin air, often with disastrous consequences,” says Dr Anne-Ka van den Hoek, Academic Manager at The Independent Institute of Education, South Africa’s largest and most accredited private higher education institution with 21 campuses throughout the country. “It is therefore important that soon-to-be students get their heads in the right space, to create the healthy environment that will assist them in achieving the strong grades they intend to reap at the end of the year,” says Dr Van den Hoek. She says there are a few common sense resolutions that will
stand new students in good stead and lay the foundation for success in 2014. “By making some minor tweaks to the way you approach your daily life, and by committing yourself to steadfastly building new skills in achievable bit by bit chunks, you’ll soon start to feel more empowered in your daily endeavours,” says Van den Hoek. “By all means, go all out to enjoy being a student and the wonderful new experiences this life stage brings, but at the same time, commit to taking at least one step towards selfempowerment and improvement every day. These small daily commitments will add up and, over the next three or four years, will accrue compound interest which will set you apart from your peers at the end of your studies.” Van den Hoek says that these small acts of daily empowerment will translate into a more manageable life and environment, which will have a positive knock-on effect to many aspects of students’ lives, including their studies. Pupils should promise themselves the following in 2014:
1. I will monitor the way I use my time. I will break up my free time into blocks allocated to relaxing with friends and family, to exercising my mind and body, and to following my passions. This will help me to find an appropriate balance between work and pleasure. 2. I will write down the three things I should have done differently in my studies last year and check back each week that I am not falling into those habits again. 3. I will find at least one community-based activity to support, because I acknowledge that I have a responsibility to give back to those less fortunate than me. 4. I will take ‘one app at a time’, by learning one new technological skill (that is not about gaming or social media) every month, even if it is only the shortcut keys on my keyboard. It all adds up to making me more effective. 5. I will eat and exercise properly, not because I hope to be the centre of attention wherever I go, but because if I feel good and am healthy, I will look good, be more confident, and be able to deliver my best.

“BEWARE! Malaria is still a danger”
Malaria transmission in Limpopo is seasonal with cases normally at their highest during the summer rainy season. We are slap bang in the middle of the summer, and reported malaria cases are to be expected in the known malaria transmission areas. Limpopo is epidemic prone to malaria and seasonal increases or outbreaks of malaria can occur. Few cases are reported in winter from the malaria risk areas, with cases increasing during the rainy and hot summer season, with Vhembe and Mopani the high risk areas. The notified malaria cases are mostly confined to the known malaria high-risk areas in Limpopo namely the north eastern parts of Vhembe and eastern Mopani. Hospitals that reported Malaria cases were Donald Fraser (Sibasa), Musina, Malamulele, Nkhensani (Giyani) and Maputha Malatji (Ba-Phalaborwa) hospitals. During October 2013, 217 cases were notified, with cases increasing to 365 during November 2013. For December 2013, 142 cases were notified up to the 18th. For the current (2013/2014) financial year, from
April 2013 up to 18th December 2013, 1498 cases have been reported. This is up from the corresponding time in the 2012/2013 financial year (April to December), which was 548. That was the lowest number of reported cases for Limpopo in the past fifteen years. These figures tell us that the reported cases for this year are not out of the ordinary. Confirmed malaria-related deaths in this time frame for the current financial year is 14, which is a 1% fatality rate. This compares to 1.4% for 2012/13, 0.7% for 2011/12, 1.08% for 2010/2011 and 1.09% for 2009/2010. Malaria cases are still below the provincial epidemic thresholds used to monitor the notified malaria cases. The Department of Health monitors all health facilities in the province on a daily basis to detect any increases and to respond to those. As there is always a potential for focal malaria outbreaks in Limpopo, and these occur every year, monitoring systems with calculated weekly thresholds are in place as an early warning system. In order to ensure optimum malaria control during the current malaria season, the Department of Health has the following activities in place: • Malaria indoor residual spraying is underway in all the malaria risk areas, with 42 teams currently involved in spraying at community level. The target is to spray 990,000 structures during the current malaria season. Of these, 560,000 structures have already been sprayed. • Malaria diagnostic tests and treatment are available at all health facilities.
• Each notified malaria case is fully investigated to ensure that the necessary measures are in place to prevent and reduce transmission, in these communities. • Communities are kept informed of the risk of malaria at all times and health seeking behaviour is encouraged. During December, there is traditionally extensive movement of people between malaria high risk areas outside the provincial boundaries and communities in Limpopo. This can contribute to increase transmission and additional precautions need to be taken when visiting countries to the north of South Africa. General info on the prevention Individuals: • Remain indoors between dusk and dawn. • When outdoors at night, wear longsleeved clothing to protect exposed skin. • Spray the house inside with an aerosol insecticide (for flying insects) at dusk, especially the bedrooms, after closing the windows. • Burn mosquito coils or burn mosquito mats in living and sleeping areas during the night. • Use mosquito-proof bed net, with edges tucked in under the mattress. • Individuals from outside malaria risk areas, visiting high risk areas, can take antimalarial drugs to protect themselves against malaria. Communities: • Make provision for drainage of rain and household water near houses. • See that there is no standing water in
either ground pools or articles like empty cans or old car tyres near houses. • Build houses and villages away from marshy areas and rivers that are potential breeding areas for mosquitoes. • Install gauze screens in front of outside doors and windows of houses. • Co-operate with malaria control teams during the spraying of houses. • Communities with the capacity to do spraying (e.g. farming communities and game ranges), can also embark on their own spraying campaigns by spraying the interior walls of houses with longacting insecticides. This also applies to the application of larvicides to standing water that cannot be drained. Symptoms of malaria The symptoms of malaria are very similar to flu e.g. headache, fever, muscular and joint pains, sweating, shivering attacks, nausea, diarrhoea and fatigue. Diagnoses and treatment Malaria is a treatable disease. If any of the above symptoms develop, people should immediately consult their nearest clinic, health
centre, hospital or doctor. It should be mentioned that the patient was in a malaria risk area. The patient should be tested immediately for malaria (insist on a blood test). In the majority of cases, examination of blood smears will reveal the malaria parasites. If not found initially, further specimens should be examined by an experienced laboratory before the infection is excluded, as false negatives may be found on initial examination. Appropriate treatment should be given immediately. • Statistics supplied by the Limpopo Department of Health.

Mopani matric results improve Matric results in the Mopani District in 2013 have shown an improvement by six percent. This is according to the MEC for Education in Limpopo, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi, during an official announcement of the matric results for 2013 in Polokwane on Tuesday. Mangcombe Circuit has been voted the best in Mopani after a total of 1 114 learners wrote their matric exams and 929 passed. This is equivalent to 81,2 percent. It had unseated Nkowankowa Circuit which had been dominating in the previous years. DZJ Mthebule Secondary School from Nkowankowa outside Tzaneen has been awarded as one of the best performing schools in Mopani after it has achieved 91,3 percent pass rate. The MEC also praised schools like Mahlane Secondary in Khujwana Circuit that had improved their
performance during 2013. In 2012, the school received a 34,6 percent pass rate. In 2013 it obtained 80 percent. Modubatse High School in Rakwadu Circuit in GaKgapane, Greater Letaba, had 419 learners who wrote exams last year and out of this a total of 111 learners received bachelors and the other 345 passed, which is equivalent to 82,3 percent. Magadzi called on teachers and pupils to start working hard early on in order to achieve a better pass rate at the end of this year. “We are quite confident that it would be possible to get more than 80 percent pass rate this year as books and other stationeries were delivered to schools in time,” she said. Limpopo produced 71,8 percent pass rate this year which is an improvement from 66 percent — Michael Sakuneka, michael@bulletin.us.com last year.
St George’s College: The school is rated as one of three outstanding independent schools in the province and had a 100% pass rate with a total of 186 distinctions. The top achiever for independent schools in Limpopo is Masana Mhinga of St George College in Nkowankowa, with nine distinctions to her credit. Meridian College: Meridian College once again proved why it is rated as one of the top schools in the region. They obtained an overall pass of 97% and 63% bachelors passes. There were 79 A symbols and 99 B symbols. Stanford Lake College: Brandon Wright (the school’s Dux in 2013) achieved eight distrinctions. Reinhard Schmidt was placed in top 1% of all IEB
candidates for Afrikaans 1st additional language, Nadia Ndhlovu placed in top 1% of all IEB candidates for Mathematics and Mathematics Paper 3 and Luana Ungerer placed in top 1% of all IEB candidates for CAT.

The Tzaneen and Haenertsburg Judo Clubs’ grading and end of year prize giving was held and the following athletes were rewards: Front: Robyn Lacey (Grading), Kian Loughor-Clarke (most improved junior boy), Stefan Erasmus (best junior newcomer), Estiaan van Zyl (Judoka of the Year). In the back are Sensei Ivan Steyn, Amy Burman (best junior girl), Revan Beukes (endurance cup), Stuart Lunt (best senior boy) and Daniel White (fighter).
