Golden fumble...

The gold in Tzaneen’s prestigious Golden Acres security residential complex seems to be turning into mud for the developer, flamboyant attorney and businessman Mr Conrad Hendrik Krüger. His luxury double storey thatched roof private dwelling in Roger Mills Street 1E, Tzaneen, as well as eighteen other properties in Golden Acres (Extension 2) have been attached by the Sheriff. Krüger already consented to judgement against his company Blue Moonlight Properties 82 (Pty) Ltd as the First Defendant and himself as Second Defendant on 18 December last year. The application for consent was brought by King Trade Investment 211 (Pty) Ltd of Mr Tolstoi Kruger (they are not related). The judgement debt amounts to R1 300 715,44 and

We also wanted to speak to some of the “owners” of the erven — we have quite a list of names — but failed to get hold of them. We know who the attorney is that acted for King Trade Investment, but we also had no joy in locating him in time before we went to print. We will follow up with these parties during the coming week and report further on the matter next week. We need to establish why it is alleged that the case represents serious fraud and we would also like to speak to whoever suggests that criminal action is to follow. We called Mr Conrad Krüger yesterday morning, but we could only leave a message on his voice mail. We asked him to return our call and made it clear that we were on deadline. However, he did not return the call

the Sheriff’s legal fees amount to R570,12. The following properties in Golden Acres (Tzaneen Extension 48 and Extension 84) have been attached: Erf 2842, Erf 3235, Erf 5042, Erf 5046, Erf 5047, Erf 5048, Erf 5051, Erf 5063, Erf 5066, Erf 5067, Erf 5088, Erf 5091, Erf 5100, Erf 5101, Erf 5111, Erf 5112, Erf 5113 and Erf 5117. Some of the erven in Golden Acres belong to prominent Tzaneen residents and at least one erf belongs to a Letsitele resident. It is claimed that some or most of these erven have been bought and paid for, but the transfer thereof has not been done. We tried to communicate with Mr Tolstoi Kruger yesterday, shortly after we had obtained the relevant documents as proof of the legal process that has been followed. Unfortunately we could not get hold of him.

before the newspaper had to go on the press. There is a huge amount of information that we need to work through and prepare for next week, when we will report further on the state of affairs that has cast a shadow over one of Tzaneen’s landmark developments and one of the town’s prominent men. Krüger was chairman of a local business chamber (referred to by many people as a social club). At one stage he owned a helicopter and more than one fixed wing aircraft. He introduced an air shuttle between Tzaneen and Pretoria, but the support didn’t justify the cost of the operation. People in general agree that he is a very likeable person. He has maintained a rather lavish lifestyle over the last couple of years, people say.

Vlieg moet bieg. Eintlik twee keer. Lino de Carvalho of Tzaneen writes: I present this open letter to the community of Tzaneen. Firstly let me say that I believe that sports and culture play a significant role in the raising of our children and I honestly believe that it has a place in our schools but… For the umpteenth time I have been approached by a scholar/parent/school requesting funds for a sports/ culture tour of some sort to some bizarre location. I can honestly say that I have yet to turn down a request but it started me thinking of how much money is being spent by the community/parents/schools on sports and culture. At present I have three requests on my desk requesting funds of between R1 500 and R2 500 per person for a sports tour for a group. The average team consists of about fifteen players

Numba One gaan v.i. Vlieg moet jou egter waarsku voordat jy te Secure in Comfort raak… they’ve got your numba!

depending on the event. At a very rough estimate this is R30 000 per team that is being raised by the community/parents and school. Could R30 000 not have been better allocated? Could R30 000 not have been better spent in our town? I think we will all be shocked if we have to know how much money is being spent/allocated by the community in the name of sports and culture outside our town. I respect each parent’s right to support their children in their chosen field, and I know of many parents who do more than what is asked of them, but I also know of parents/even grandparents who do not have food on the table, have no transport, cannot afford to pay school fees and yet must afford their child funds to partake in sports tours. Something is seriously wrong with this. My question is thus: is school sports and culture outside the province beneficial to the community of Tzaneen, or could all the money being raised in the name of sports and culture outside the province be put to better use in our beautiful town? PS: I have yet to receive a request form of any kind , asking for funds to employ extra teachers. Strange, isn’t it!

Wilco Niemandt Lino, I fully back this statement

but i know a lot of people will crucify me again — because eight years ago i made so many waves stirring this issue and was hammered by people all over Limpopo! sad but true

Three found dead in watery grave Three people died and one person sustained injuries after the truck they were driving plunged into a dam next to Agatha Road on Friday evening. It is alleged that the four men removed wooden poles, known as pencil wood, illegally from a farm higher up in Agatha, belonging to Mr Nick Human. As they drove down the road with their illegal load in the direction of Flora Park, the driver lost control and the truck plunged into the dam on the farm Bassan of Mr Kevin Lancefield. The driver managed to jump out of the moving truck before it hit the water, but the other three were trapped inside and drowned. Divers from the SAPS’ water unit in Polokwane arrived on Saturday morning to retrieve the bodies. After the area was assessed, stun grenades

were used to keep suspected crocodiles at bay, before the divers took to the water. Two of the victims were found inside the cabin of the truck, while the third body was discovered in the muddy water a few metres away. The names of the victims are not known and the origin of the vehicle is also investigated, as it had no number plates. According to the spokesman for the Tzaneen SAPD, Lt Col Moashi Ngoepe, a case of culpable homicide has been opened. He could not confirm whether the driver of the truck was apprehended. Remember Earth Hour

MM gets the boot

Tomorrow. Every year, on the last Saturday of March the whole world is asked to switch off all non-essential electrical appliances and lights for an hour, between 20:30 and 21:30, to lessen the impact of “civilisation” on the earth and its natural resources. This year, WWF’s Earth Hour campaign will be calling on you to make your individual promise to the planet by asking the question, “How do you Honour the Earth?” For seven years running, on the last Saturday of March, millions of people around the world have switched off their lights for Earth Hour as a symbolic gesture to show their commitment to taking positive actions for our planet.

The intention to suspend Tzaneen’s municipal manager, Mr Masiye Mankabidi, came as no surprise for a number Masiye Elias of reasons. Mankabidi He faces allegations of misconduct involving millions of Rand by approving payments and a contract without following proper procedures and advice. The council of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) held special meetings on Friday (Human Rights Day) and Saturday where the Mayor was authorized to suspend Mankabidi for misconduct if he fails to explain within seven days why he should not be suspended with immediate effect. It involved the approvement of a R7,6 million payment to a road construction company which is behind schedule with its work. The same company had a contract of R48 million approved by Mankabidi, which was against the advice of the tender bids adjudication committee.

Mankabidi’s appointment as MM was controversial from the beginning. He left the Greater Letaba Municipality (GLM) under a pall of pessimism. He was redeployed at the Mopani District Municipality (MDM) before he came to Tzaneen. There were some doubts about his qualifications for the post as municipal manager, but finality was never reached because of different interpretations on this issue. Mankabidi was also highly controversial amid ratepayers and other members of the public for his continuous refusal to react on enquiries and correspondence. The Bulletin can endorse this. We sent a written request to his office on 24 July 2013, but have up to now not even received confirmation of receipt thereof. That was our last effort to remedy proper communication with his office. The most alarming accusations in this regard came from inside the GTM, where it is learned on good authority that he even failed to react on internal correspondence from his subservants.

New surgeon

The MediClinic Tzaneen has welcomed yet another specialist. Dr David Ntsoane is a surgeon who has joined dr Gert van der Merwe, the surgeon who moved to Tzaneen towards the end of last year. Ntsoane grew up in the Lebowakgomo/Makgoka area and studied medicine at Medunsa. He did his studies and training as a surgeon at the University of Natal. The 32-year-old doctor is single, but he thinks it wouldn’t be for too long. His fiancée is also a medical practitioner (GP), and she is also to become a specialist. She is studying neurology and once she has qualified it is hoped that she will move to Tzaneen. Ntsoane has studied the latest laproscopic procedures and he has already performed the first Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatogram (ERCP) in Tzaneen successfully.

Mob justice A 31-year-old man was violently attacked by a group of residents in Satlaleng, Bolobedu. It is alleged that he was involved in rape and housebreaking. The suspect was said to be hiding in nearby bushes. He was allegedly thrown with bricks, stones and sticks after he had been seen roaming the streets. An anonymous source said he was taken to Kgapane Hospital for treatment. It remains unclear if anyone was arrested because, according to the police, there was no substantial information at the time of going to press.

Invaders Last week residents of Ritavi notified the Police of invaders who terrorised their community and subsequently 66 people were arrested. Police also arrested forty people in connection with contravening the Liquor Act and for traffic offences, illegal gambling and for assault. Seventeen culprits in the area were apprehended for assault GBH, robbery, burglary and rape. Police also nabbed six perpetrators for intimidation, theft, attempted murder and three people were arrested for malicious damage to property, possession of dagga and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Many arrested As many as 150 people who were involved in public violence in Tzaneen over the past week, were facing the long arm of the law. Police arrested seventeen people for shoplifting, assault, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, housebreaking and theft. Elsewhere in the Tzaneen area ten culprits were apprehended for robbery, malicious damage to property, violation of a protection order, possession of dagga, rape and drinking in public. Motorist beware Traffic offences were rife over the past week in Haenertsburg and police arrested 49 motorists for various traffic offences. Three people were arrested for the possession of dagga and two others were apprehended for the possession of indigenous plants.

Relela case postponed Last week the Bolobedu Magistrates Court has again postponed the criminal case against nine of the suspects involved in the violent Relela protests at the end of January. The suspects are said to be facing criminal charges of public violence, malicious damage to property and arson. Lt Col Ronel Otto has confirmed that the group will appear in court again on 30 April, pending further investigations.

Wrong side Criminal behaviour in Bolobedu seems to be a big concern, and 58 people were apprehended over the past week for being on the wrong side of the law. Eight criminals were arrested for malicious damage to property, theft, violation of a protection order, failure to comply with maintenance and shoplifting. Police arrested thirteen perpetrators for illegal gambling, drunk driving, assault GBH, obstructing justice, housebreaking and theft. Police also arrested 37 people who were involved in car hijacking, robbery, intimidation, attempted murder and drinking in public.

Retired citizen offers a valuable service “Meet our senior citizens” is an exclusive series brought to our readers by the Bulletin every week. Today we introduce Mr Joseph Venter who is one of those active senior citizens who does not spend his days sitting on the stoep. Sue Ettmayr interviewed him and found a man of 78 who is still very energetic and busy. Enjoy the read and contact us if you would like to nominate a senior citizen with whom we can communicate for an interview.

I just couldn’t sit on the stoep and do nothing. Speaking about his busy life as a pensioner is 78-year-old Mr Joseph Venter, who started repairing lawnmowers fifteen years ago. Venter was born and bred in Tzaneen. He spends his days as church warden at the Dutch Reformed Church in Tzaneen. He has a workshop, next to the church office, where he repairs at least two lawnmowers a week. He’s wearing sunglasses as he’s just had an operation. A piece of steel flew into his eye whilst welding in his workshop. A doctor removed the foreign object, but he was instructed to wear sunglasses until the eye was completely restored. He usually wears safety glasses but was careless that day. Venter has been a church warden for twelve years. He buys lawnmowers at auctions and uses the spare parts for other lawnmowers. He doesn’t repair petrol lawnmowers. ”It is dirty work and the parts are too expensive.” When asked how he diagnoses what’s wrong with a lawnmower he says that he can hear the problem. Venter attended Merensky High School. In

Me Ester Moshaka is die huishoudster vir ‘n enkellopende man in Sentrapark, Tzaneen.

Baie dankie, BioMatic, jou geheim werk!

Mrs PV Erasmus of Tzaneen says she has been using BioMatic in her laundry since 2012. At first it was expensive to use, because the BoiMatic cleaned the washing machines and the stains got on to the laundry. However, BioMatic did clean the stains. The white laundry is whiter and the bright colours are brighter. With a bit of elbow grease stains such as oil, blood and mould can be removed. “I am happy and totally satisfied with this washing powder for it is cost effective and gets the job done.”

10

Plasies bend knee to Piet Pot Top honours in the men’s category of this year’s Munnik Meerkat 70 km mountain bike race went to Alan Gordon (1st), Mario Ferreira (2nd) and Eddy Texeira (3rd).

The women’s category of the 70 km Munnik Meerkat mountain bike race was this year won by Melanie Melville (1st), Louwrina Dando (2nd) and Dorothy Rood (3rd).

Munnik Meerkat as popular as ever Despite the cold and wet weather, this year’s Munnik Meerkat Mountain Bike Race on Saturday attracted a record number of almost 600 entries. The event is annually hosted by the Munnik Farmers’ Association, in conjunction with the P&L Cycling Club, with the 70 km and 35 km races serving as Limpopo-colours qualifiers. Year after year, this race is growing in popularity, as is evident in the annual increase in entries; and once again it lived up to expectations as being one of the most enjoyable MTB races on the provincial sporting calendar. In the gruelling 70 km race, 75 cyclists managed to complete the event. In the men’s category, Alan Gordon cycled home in first place in a respectable time of 02:42:37. His time was just more than two minutes quicker than that of his nearest rival, Mario Ferreira, who finished second in 02:44:58. It was, however, a sprint to the finish for Ferreira with a mere second separating him and Eddy Texeira, who finished third in 02:44:59. Texeira boasted a second place in last year’s race, but with a much slower time of 02:51:06. In the women’s race there was no contest for first place with Melanie Melville crossing the finishing line in first place in a time of 03:17:27. Louwrina Dando came in six minutes later in second place in a time of 03:23:44, with Dorothy Rood cycling home in third place in a time of 03:39:10. Rood also boasted a third place in last year’s race. The 35 km race saw the largest number of entries

of close to 350 cyclists entering and 323 finally completing the race. The men’s race was dominated by the youngsters with first, second and third place going to high school students. Few will forget local star cyclist CP van Wyk’s impressive winning time of 01:14:49 last year. He has since turned pro and moved to Stellenbosch where he is studying. This year’s race saw that record being shattered by almost two minutes, with a Louis Trichardt High School student, 16-year-old Kombo Bere, winning the race in a blistering 01:12:33. Fellow team mate Marco Roets (18) took second place in a time of 01:14:54, with Gustav van Veyeren (17) in third place in a time of 01:18:14. In the women’s 35 km race, last year’s winner Robyn Cronjé was back to defend her title. This year, however, she only managed a third place in a time of 01:33:37. Top honours this year went to Ashley Murray, who completed the course in a winning time of 01:28:39. It was also a sprint to the finish for Ashley, with a mere second separating her and Soretha Lubbe, who finished in a time of 01:28:40 in second place. The 10 km fun ride proved popular as ever, attracting 120 entries. The men’s race was won by 14-year-old Johann Bezuidenhout in a time of 00:34:27, with seven-year-old Chante van Wyngaardt winning the women’s section in a time of 00:39:14. LiN News /Zoutpansberger

All smiles after a gruelling 35 km Munnik Meerkat Mountain Bike Race. Pictured are the winners of the women’s category, Ashley Murray (1st), Soretha Lubbe (2nd) and Robyn Cronjé (3rd).

The winners of the Munnik Meerkat 35 km men’s race on Saturday were, Kombo Bere (1st), Marco Roets (2nd) and Gustav van Veyeren (3rd).

Merensky High School’s girls’ hockey hosted five games against Piet Potgieter High School from Mokopane. The u.14 girls played with all their heart, winning the match 2-0. Delean O’Neill scored both goals. Shea Adendorff also had an excellent game and was named player of the match. The u.15 girls had a very good match under the scorching sun. They won 4-0. Clariska Venter scored three goals and Dineo Shokane one. Players of the match were Mokgotwane Monyela and Zenelde Schoeman. The u.16’s lost 5-0. The second team could also not find their rhythm and lost 2-0. The first team played a very tough game and lead 1-0 at halftime. Unfortunately Potties scored seconds before the final whistle to win the game 2-1. The player of the match was Clara Mashele.

Vossie-hokkie skitterblink

“The truth is, I’ve never fooled anyone. I’ve let men sometimes fool themselves.” — Marilyn Monroe
