Dit sou amper so rassisties gewees het as ‘n mens swart Barbies gekry het! Of wit smurfies?

Tim Maake: Does he enjoy special treatment? Is Mr Tim Maake, the controversial manager of the Mopani District Municipality, receiving special treatment in a police investigation regarding alleged fraud, corruption, racketeering and money laundering? Maake was arrested in Lenyenye earlier this year, but that was also kept very quiet and people say his arrest took place rather secretively. The Bulletin has no established exclusively that an Ex Parte application to issue a subpoena for Maake “to furnish material or relevant information, to wit the information as set out in Annexure A attached to Schedule , regarding any alleged crime, to wit the crime(s) of draud, corruption, racketeering and money laundering”,

was held before a magistrate in chambers (in other words, not in an open court). We have also succeeded in obtaining information about the contents of the Annexure A referred to exclusively. According to this document the Police (Commercial Branch) are investigating alleged irregularities pertaining to boreholes in the Maruleng, Ba-Phalaborwa, Greater Letaba, Greater Giyani and Greater Tzaneen municipalities. A total amount of over R75 million is mentioned. We will share more about these alarming allegations with our readers next week. — Francois Aucamp francois@bulletin.us.com

Shame on you, Mr Maake! The Mopani District Municipality (MDM), having earned their stripes for not minding to waste ratepayers’ money, now has to pay R7 500 to settle an amount of R2 000 — an escalation of 368%. How come? Quite simple and totally unnecessary: In June 2012 the MDM placed an advertisement in the Bulletin. The cost was R2 042,88. A year later, in July 2013, the account had not been settled, despite numerous requests. So we decided, as a matter of principle, to institute legal action against the MDM. That made no impression on them and they simply ignored the lawyer’s letters, demanding settlement of the account, and when the court granted judgement against the institution they kept on ignoring the situation. The next step was that the sheriff attached some photocopiers, other electronic equipment and even fridges. They still showed no reaction and

a sale in execution was advertised, which also made no impression on them. When the sheriff arrived to remove the articles that he had attached earlier on, they suddenly realised that they’d better pay. The initial amount of R2 042,88 had by then grown to R7 517,41, which included interest, our lawyer’s legal fees, the sheriff ’s fees and the cost of advertisements in newspapers. They paid the full amount... The MDM’s manager, the controversial Mr Tim Maake, should explain how such bad administration and wasteful expenditure could be tolerated. That, however, is highly unlikely to happen, since the MDM has become known for the rather insensitive way in which they spend other people’s hard earned money. Shame on the MDM and their chief accounting officer, Mr Tim Maake. — Francois Aucamp francois@bulletin.us.com

We will share some more information about this new development with our readers next week. — Francois Aucamp francois@bulletin.us.com

Vanjaar se tema is “Somerkersfees”.

Give credit where it is due. Many South Africans often feel miserable and disheartened about corruption, nepotism, farm murders, rape, the gross neglect of infrastructure, the decline in standards (i.e. education, health services etc) and cheap political rhetoric that is used in a way that makes people realise that politicians think everybody is mentally handicapped. Yes, it is frustrating to have to cope with all these things. But let us be honest and give credit where it is due. Selebi has been kicked out (a pity though, that he is allowed to sit at home), Agliotti’s wings have been clipped and he is finally on trial, Nxana is on thin ice, Nkandla is not going to land in the president’s lap without some adjustments (although we suspect not everybody who helped to steal ratepayers’ money will in the end have to cough up), some pretty useless members of the cabinet have been fired (sadly not all the useless ones) etc. But: SARS runs like a Swiss clock, with Minister Gordhan now having to sort out the mess in local government we are likely to see improvement (it will not happen overnight), the leaders seem to realise that unemployment needs to be addressed more seriously, capital investment in infrastructure will help to create jobs, some potentially fatal socialist unworkable plans have been shelved and more will follow. Let us hope we will see a more realistic approach to, from and in local governments in our province and towns.

“Unfair” reporting Mathebula Jappy writes by e-mail: Mr Editor, I’m responding to the article in your newspaper (Bulletin 20 June 2014) titled Concern over total neglect ot the college on page 7 by one of your reporters.

For a long time I agreed with your slogan of “Fearlessly the Truth”, but in this article, I think the ethics of journalism has been betrayed. None of the users of the institution e.g teachers and circuit managers have been interviewed. It looks like the article is intended to fight and demoralise the keepers of the institution or to portray the institution as a useless thing. Before one could even read the article, the beautiful picture of the main gate opposes your heading especially the words “total neglect”. The other pictures like the one indicating the staff living quarters, as a former student of the institution, I don’t remember the college having staff living quarters, so get your facts right. Mr Editor, this article sent be back to the institution although I’m a regular there on work related issues. The reporter might have been given a story and pictures by a person who has motives and your reporter never bothered to visit the institution to get the truth. I’m also sure that the reporter cannot match some of the pictures to the real location in the institution. I will be happy if Bulletin can visit Tivumbeni and write another article fearlessly and truthfully. The little truth I know about the institution is: Tivumbeni is one if not the only well-kept former college of education. List few former colleges that you know, visit them and compare them with Tivumbeni, maybe you can know which one is best suitable for the words “total neglect”. I’m also sure that if the department of education intend to re-open two former colleges of education, Tivumbeni will be one of them and no renovation will be necessary. The institution is always fully booked throughout the year by different government department and private sector for functions, i.e workshops, seminars, meetings, conferences, etc It is a sleep-in marking centre for Gr 12 exams in November and June, and teachers/markers would have long protested if the institution is as described in your article as they did in other marking centres. It is also an examinations centre for some of the best universities in the country and these universities have conditions for approving an institution as a centre and tidiness is one of the conditions. The institution also house the department of education’s circuits offices and the you can ask the circuit officials about the textbooks on the picture

Marriage! What is it? Is it necessary? These and many more questions are often asked in today’s world. There seems to be a constant search for reasons as to why or why not one should marry. Marriage is total commitment to one another, it is saying this is the one I have chosen to spend the rest of my life with. Now there a different types of marriages, common law, civil law and religious marriages. As I see it God only comes in to the equation in a religious marriage, for it is only here that one is bound together by a messenger of God.

Yes, there is the legal part, the signing of the marriage document, but it is only in this ceremony that the couple are bound together in God’s sight and it is said “Who God puts together let no man put apart” What if something goes wrong and the partner you have chosen is not whom you expected? What if there is abuse, in any form? Well then there is divorce where the legality of the marriage is rescinded by a judge/magistrate. But what if people have just drifted apart? This is caused by the lack of communication in most cases and then they decide to separate and even sometimes it leads to divorce. These are earthly matters and legal matters not spiritual matters. If God has joined you then you will remain joined until He parts you, no matter what a document of divorce says. The scriptures are very clear about this and it states that God abhors divorce if it is not due to unfaithfulness of either party. So when we all stand before God to be judged maybe He will ask us what we did to break the bond He created between us. How will we answer if we did not at least in some way try to communicate our feelings or to seek help in trying to remain faithful to one another and to Him? We all make excuses as to why things did not work out and often it is not just the one party who is to blame, but both. It has been said there is three sides to every story; his side, her side and the truth. Now I plead with all who are married, communicate your feelings no matter how hard they may be or how simple they may seem to you. A marriage consists of three parties, the wife, the husband and God. Blessings. not the centre manager. L a s t l y, I think your article should have been a concern over the under-utilisation of such a beautiful institution by the department when it is struggling with the shortage of maths and science teachers. You can also challenge the department of sports, art and culture which is in charge of libraries in the province on why they don’t use the library at Tivumbeni.

• Sir, you are the one who should revisit the college. A week or two before we started our investigation, slightly less than a month before the story was published, the place was overgrown with grass. From the street it looked like a somewhat neglected building altogether. The beautiful picture of the main gate is truly just the picture of the main gate. A few meters from the main gate into the grounds, one will surely not miss the wearing of paint on the walls of the building and the deterioration thereof. Surely, you couldn’t have read our news report. Maybe you couldn’t get past the “beautiful picture of the main gate” and the “opposing” title, or else you’d have seen that we spoke to the current manager of the property, Mr Mushwana, about the facility. Mr Mushwana, who was kind enough to talk to us about the current functions of the college as well as its history, said he would not say much in relation to the property’s management, maintenance and future plans as it’s not his place to do so. In this case, it’s not hard to understand, if the manager of the property is prohibited to talk on its maintenance, the voice of some ordinary teacher or frequent user of the property will hold no legitimacy in doing so. If Tivumbeni is one of the well-kept former colleges of education, then the others must be in a total state of collapse. — Editor

The true story T J Malatji FCIS, General Secretary, Mamphoku Makgoba Community Trust writes: Given the malicious reports that have been doing the rounds in the media seeking to tarnish the image Mamphoku Makgoba Community Trust, it has become necessary for the Trust to set the record straight. We are greatly concerned that The Sowetan has taken the lead in such character assassination sug-

I have noted that this becomes a norm each time government departments show interest in the land. Sowetan has unashamedly gone on to carry a similar story in two consecutive days in the past to justify what we believed was someone’s point to rejuvenate the former Sapekoe Tea Estate. In the Sowetan of 21 July 2014 Mr Horatio Motjuwadi scurrilously reported that most of the 43 farms restored to the community lie fallow citing the former Sapekoe Tea Estate as his example. The report further suggests that Professor Malegapuru Makgoba resigned from the Trust because of irregularities regarding money and tenders and that Judge Ephraim Makgoba resigned from the Trust to avoid being part of some dodgy activities in the Trust. It beats logic how the veteran journalist has flagrantly failed to hear the other side of the story on a number of allegations made in his report. The purpose for which Mamphoku Makgoba Community Trust was established in 2004 is to manage, maintain and safeguard the land restituted to the Makgoba beneficiaries. Added to this is the administration of beneficiaries. Prof. Makgoba’ s term of office as a trustee expired and Judge Makgoba resigned before the land was restituted to the community in April 2009. Objective journalism could have investigated and reported on which tenders, monies and dodgy activities characterised the Trust pre-restitution. We challenge assertions that Prof Makgoba resigned from the Trust. Mr Thupane Joseph Makgoba is the founding member and current chairperson of the Trust which currently has 13 trustees elected by the tribe and four vacant positions reserved for the Makgoba Royal Council. Obviously the contestation over the chieftaincy as reported is attributable to the absence of the Royal Council in the Trust. It is a fact that the Trust cannot take sides in the contestation and we have repeatedly called on all concerned to distance the Trust from it. Mr Motjuwadi’s bigoted expectation for Mr Thupane Joseph Makgoba to give answers on royal battles is absurd, mischievous and nefarious, to say the least. On issues pertaining to the administration of the Trust, sobriety could have prevailed to any journalist that other Trust members, especially the Secretariat were there to respond to questions. Contrary to assertions, the Trust received properties majority of which were liabilities in their

own forms and since 2009 managed to survive without any funding from Government by maintaining third cycle coppices, cleared bushes and planted eucalyptus trees, maintained houses and fruit trees which all have proven efficacious for our going concern strategy. In 2010 when the Limpopo Department of Agriculture (LDA) again showed interest in reviving the Tea Estate, the Trust vehemently opposed the idea of pursuing the black tea market given studies that clearly revealed that black tea is too costly to produce and has no market. Forensic audit was invoked as a threat to push the Trust into submission. Mr Motjuwadi is kindly referred to the report by the then Deputy Minister of Rural Development Mr Thulas Nxesi who declared that the whole exercise was a waste of Government resources. A Caretakership Contract was then transferred from the Trust to LDA to revive the Tea Estate. In his report Mr Motjuwadi reliably informs the nation that plundered about R50 million on the farm. Had Mr Motjuwadi at least spoken to any of the 589 registered beneficiaries he would have learned the fabricated stories he wrote about are from unregistered claimants hell-bent on destroying the Makgoba Land Claim. Objective journalism would have produced credible information and not have prematurely climaxed as it is echoed in the Sowetan story about the Makgoba Land Claim.

After carefully sifting through a record amount of entries, the 2014 Sanlam/Business Partners Entrepreneur of the Year® judging panel have identified the fourteen finalists who have been selected to advance to the final round of the competition, of which Ms Adri Kruger, owner of Tzaneen Country Lodge at Tarentaalrand, is the only finalist from Limpopo. The Tzaneen Country Lodge is a country style hotel, owned and managed by Kruger, who together with her husband in 2000 purchased an old and delapidated farmstead next door, successfully developed what was intended to be a four-bedroomed guest house into a full services sixty bedroom hotel. The hotel offers executive suites, double, twin, honeymoon and family rooms, as well as facilities for the physically disabled. The establishment has an a la Carte restaurant and cocktail bar, an inhouse Earth Spa Wellness Centre, which specialises in various treatments to pamper guests, and an animal touch farm and Tea Garden to cater for children and families alike. The Tzaneen Conference Centre and Event Venue

accommodates up to 500 delegates and offers the use of several conference rooms, break-away rooms, an executive boardroom, as well as an open-air amphitheatre that is used for weddings, events and festivals. The hotel currently employs 58 permanent staff members and ten temporary staff members, and together with maintenance, gardens and farm employees, the business employs a total of 215 people. Kruger firmly believes that the core of the hotel’s success is the quality and dedication of the staff. An example of this is an employee, Mr Isaac Selowa, who was previously a roadside hawker, and is now a successful senior restaurant manager at the hotel’s a la carte restaurant, Feathers. Since its inception both Kruger and the hotel have been recognised by various industry bodies and have won several awards. In 2013 the hotel was named as the Best Small Business in South Africa by AHI, and also received the Best Responsible Tourism Award by SATOA, a leading international professional non-profit travel and tourism association. This award paid tribute to the years of dedication to green and responsible tourism practices which are central to the Tzaneen Country Lodge culture.

Fertilize

Apply balanced fertilizer (6-6-6 or 8-8-8), fish emulsion, or other soil amendments recommended by soil-test results around trees and shrubs when new growth appears. Spread high-acid fertilizer and pine-needle mulch around acid-loving shrubs like azaleas and camellias. Begin fertilizing perennials when active growth resumes.

Start a Compost Pile

Start a compost pile, or use a compost bin, if you don’t have one already. Begin by collecting plant debris and leaves raked up from the garden. Chop these up first to speed decomposition. Add equal amounts “brown” (carbon-rich) materials like dried leaves and straw and “green” (nitrogen-rich) materials like grass clippings and weeds in even layers with water and a compost bioactivator. Turn regularly. Continue adding to the pile throughout the season for rich, homemade compost next spring.

Disinfect the feeders by scrubbing with weak bleach solution (1/4 cup bleach: 2 gallons warm water). Rinse and dry the feeders thoroughly before refilling them.Scrub birdbaths with bleach solution, then rinse them thoroughly and refill, changing water weekly. How an Interior Architect will do it!

DIY backyard swing for kids The sun is coming out, the days are getting longer, kids want to go outside and play. Build your kids a backyard swing and keep them entertained for hours this spring in these 14 simple steps: Tools • 150mm (D) x 3m treated pine logs (5) • M12 galvanised threaded rod cut to 240 and 340mm lengths (with 12 washers and nuts to suit) • 4 pigtail hooks and 2 nuts for each • Swings, as selected • 2 bags of coarse aggregate • Concrete (2-3 bags per pole) • Paint

Step 1: Mark 300 and 2450mm from the bottom of each pole. Cross the poles at about 60° so the two 2450mm marks coincide. Step 2: Spread the poles so they’ll be 2000mm apart at the 300mm mark. Check the crossover at the top again to ensure it’s still correct. Step 3: Run a pencil along both sides of the top pole where they cross over to draw in the notch to be cut out of the bottom pole. Tilt the pencil inwards slightly so the notch width will be about 140mm, as you are not housing the full diameter of the pole. Without moving the poles, repeat to mark the underside of the top pole. Step 4: Cut along the 2 lines with a power saw set to cut to a depth of 50mm. Keep the saw level as you cut so the housings will be of equal depth. Then make a series of parallel cuts between the outer cuts. Step 5: Chisel out the waste. To allow for the curve of the log that you’re fitting into the notches, use a chisel to bevel the housing shoulders slightly. Step 6: To join the 2 logs together, drill through both with a long 12mm auger bit. Cut a 240mm length of 12mm threaded rod with a hacksaw or angle grinder, put a washer and nut on 1 end, and hammer the rod through the hole. Fit a washer and the other

nut. Use 2 spanners to tighten. Repeat for the second frame. Step 7: Set out for the swing on the ground. The 2 frames are 3m apart and the bottom of the poles in each frame 2400mm apart. Mark each corner with a peg, then check the diagonals to make sure the frame will be square. Mark a 300 x 300mm square at each corner, allowing for the 100mm pole offset in each frame. Dig four 300 x 300 x 400mm-deep holes. On slight slopes, add extra depth to uphill holes to compensate. Step 8: Pour 50mm of coarse aggregate (blue metal) into each hole. To check the top of the gravel finishes at the same height in each hole, stand equal lengths of timber offcuts in each and check with a level across the top. If you get someone to help, it’ll make this job a lot easier. Step 9: With your helper, stand the two Aframes in position and prop them in place with temporary braces. Tilt in both frames 50mm at the top. Step 10: Position the swing support beam across the top and check for level. Stand back and check by eye that everything is in alignment. You may need to adjust the gravel levels slightly to adjust the levels. Step 11: When everything is in place, pour 2-3 bags of concrete into each hole to hold the legs. We used rapid-setting concrete – but if you have the time, use ordinary concrete and let it set for 24 hours. Step 12: Centre the crossbeam and drill through both leg and crossbeam. Cut 340mm of the threaded rod and drive through and secure with 2 washers and 2 nuts. Step 13: Paint frame with 1 coat of primer undercoat, then with 2 coats of exterior acrylic. Choose a bright colour – the kids will love it. When dry, measure 500 and 900mm from the inside of each frame along top beam and drill 12mm holes. Step 14: Tap in the pigtail hooks which already have a flange to suit the round poles. Then add the flange- cum-washer to the top and secure with 2 nuts. The second nut acts as a locknut. Slip on the swing ropes and adjust so the swing seat is about 350mm above the ground.

irrespective of whether it is traditional or modern. Add colour, texture and portable accessories for that fresh, summer décor. Accessories give any room individuality and breathe new life into it. You can also change the setting of your house by moving existing furniture to different places. Geometric textiles and rugs are also popular for the summer. What are some of the affordable and sustainable ways in which one can decorate/ design one’s home? Try to create an environment that will best support the specific activity or activities intended for the space. Be creative and decorate sustainably by using vintage, second hand and recycled pieces in your home. Make sure there are fair trade and ethical processes with the products you use. Be mindful and take a “slow

decorating” approach so you can make the best choices. Good quality items are often items made in the past and pieces with character and history. Going on a treasure hunt at a garage sale or antique shops can also be fun and exciting! How important is it to have an interior architect/designer when decorating your home? An interior designer will help you choose the right decor, lightning, paint colour, etc — depending on what you want, within the limits of your budget. If you know exactly what you need, you can do your home’s interior yourself and only ask for advice on things you’re unsure about. What do you enjoy most about being an interior architect? I get to be creative and do something I’m truly passionate about.

tend to buy and pile too many accessories in one place. It’s important to move things, furniture, around from time to time and create space in our rooms. It feels good to have space to breathe and it’s calming to have less stuff to take in visually. What is the trend in spring interior design at the moment? The most popular themes in interior design for warmer seasons are soft colours, casual fabrics, wicker and lots of plants. Bring the long, sunny days of summer into your home

Save Energy this Spring

Splendid Spring Colours 2014

The weather may be getting warmer, but you still need to watch out for your energy consumption. Here is how you can keep your home cool and save energy this spring:

http://advice.invitationsbydawn.com/2014/03/splendid-spring-wedding-colors-10991.html

• Use your windows to gain cool air and keep out heat - Install window coverings to prevent heat gain through windows. • Operate your thermostat efficiently - When it’s hot, set your thermostat as high as comfortably possible. The smaller the difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures, the lower your overall energy consumed. - When you leave, keep your house warmer than normal. Lower the setting to 26°C only when you are at home and need cooling. A programmable thermostat can make it easy to set back your temperature. - Avoid setting the thermostat temperatures lower than normal when turning on the air conditioner. It will not cool your home any faster and could result in excessive cooling and unnecessary expense. • Use fans and ventilation strategies to cool your home - A ceiling fan can allow you to raise the thermostat setting about -15°C with no reduction in comfort. - Turn off ceiling fans when you leave the room. Remember that fans cool people, not rooms, by creating a wind chill effect. - When you shower or take a bath, use the bathroom fan to remove the heat and humidity from your house. Your laundry room might also benefit from spot ventilation. Make sure bathroom and kitchen fans are vented to the outside (not just to the attic). • Keep your cooling system running efficiently - Schedule regular maintenance for your cooling equipment. - Avoid placing lamps or TV sets near your room airconditioning thermostat. The thermostat senses heat from these appliances, which can cause the air conditioner to run longer than necessary. - Vacuum registers regularly to remove any dust buildup. Ensure that furniture and other objects are not blocking the airflow through your registers. • Be careful not to heat your home with appliances and lighting - On hot days, avoid using the oven; cook on the stove, use a m i crowave oven or grill outside. - Install efficient CC 2008/245829/23 Member of ITC lighting that runs COC/530/ERE Category A cooler. Only about 10% to 15% energy P.O Box 4270, Tzaneen, 0850 consumed by incandescent Donnevan Beukes • 082 966 1451 lights results in light — the rest is turned into heat. e-mail: nrerectors@lantic.net - Take advantage of daylight instead of arbulletin©09760nre140815tb

tificial lighting, but avoid direct sunlight. - Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes. Consider air drying both dishes and clothing. - Take short showers instead of baths. - Minimize activities that generate a lot of heat, such as running a computer, burning open flames, running a dishwasher, and using hot devices such as curling irons or hair dryers. Even stereos and televisions will add some heat to your home. • Keep hot air from leaking into your home - Seal cracks and openings to prevent warm air from leaking into your home. - Add caulk or weather-stripping to seal air leaks around leaky doors and windows. • Lower your water heating costs (Water heating can account for about 4% to 25% of energy consumption in your home.) - Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting (49°C). In this way, you will not only save energy. You will also avoid scalding your hands. Source: http://energy.gov/energysaver/articles/spring-and-summerenergy-saving-tips

Spring,

the sweet spring BY THOMAS NASHE

Spring, the sweet spring, is the year’s pleasant king, Then blooms each thing, then maids dance in a ring, Cold doth not sting, the pretty birds do sing: Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo! The palm and may make country houses gay, Lambs frisk and play, the shepherds pipe all day, And we hear aye birds tune this merry lay: Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo! The fields breathe sweet, the daisies kiss our feet, Young lovers meet, old wives a-sunning sit, In every street these tunes our ears do greet: Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to witta-woo! Spring, the sweet spring! Source: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/article/241410

Sports festival unearths talent

Winners of the women’s soccer division, Letaba Citrus.

Passion, skill and teamwork was the name of the game at the 2014 annual Farms Sports Farm Festival hosted at Mahela Farm, Letsitele, over the past weekend. The event, hosted by Mopani District lived up to its expectations, as teams from the Greater Tzaneen Municipality put everything on the line to conquer the day and emerge victorious. The festival gave an opportunity to more than ten

teams in Mopani to compete in both netball and soccer. According to a senior manager for the department of sports, arts and culture, Mr Junior Ramashu, the main objective of the festival was to unearth sporting talents, assist participants in identifying their sporting capacity and ensuring that farm communities are empowered in taking part in the mainstream sporting codes.

Above: Winners in the male soccer division, were Unifruit from Maruleng. Right: Members of the netball overall winners, Laparisa from the Letsitele area, are seen here collecting the winners’ trophy.

He said, “the department aims to select players who will represent the province in national colours. The programme is run in every district in the province to select the best suitable teams”. Ramashu emphasised that the other priority for this initiative is to develop skills and to keep most participants away from drugs and alcohol abuse. “Training will be provided to all the selected players and referees, in order to develop talent and skills. We are also aiming to combat the problem of drugs, alcohol and educating them on the importance of using condoms”, said Ramashu. Finalists Unifruit beat APC Highlanders in the male soccer division while Letaba Citrus claimed victory over Rooikoppies in the finals of the female soccer division. Meanwhile, Laparisa from the Greater Tzaneen was crowned overall winner in netball. — Elliot Mathye, elliot@bulletin.us.com

Vossies se drie spanne speel in halfeindstryd

Duime

vas!

Old Stanfordian represents SA

Cameron Daly (Matric 2010) is presently in Australia playing for the SA Lions team in the 2014 international Australia Football League (AFL) Cup. The game is known by the locals as “footy” or “Aussie rules”. Eighteen countries are represented in the tournament: China, Fiji, Finland, France, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Nauru, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Sweden, Tonga and the USA. South Africa played their first game this past Sunday against Pakistan and beat them 160-14. Their next pool games are against Tonga and Papua New Guinea, after which they move into playoffs, with the final being played next Saturday.

“The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success.” — Paramahansa Yogananda
