Ms Lillian Mathebula (from the Giyani area) will leave one of these days to represent the va-Tsonga tribe at a special cultural event. See page 7 for details on how we can all get involved in a campaign to make our young lady a winner.
When the Sheriff arrived to attach assets of well-known Tzaneen attorney Conrad Krüger, he indicated to the Sheriff that “he has no money or attachable movable property” and that “all the movable property at 1D Rodger Mills Street (where Krüger lives) belongs to his wife”. Read the full story on page 3.
People who thought the oil (and diesel) spill in the Letaba River after last week’s accident in Georges Valley — when an interlink crashed from a bridge and landed in the river — did not cause a real threat to the environment, especially the river’s water flowing into the Tzaneen Dam, were seriously mistaken. This picture clearly shows the thick oil slick in the river. Go to page 7 for more news about a new storm brewing between environmentalists, who voluntarily worked to clean the river, and disaster management authorities.

Members of the SA Munjicipal Workers Union (Samwu) who are in the employ of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality on Monday staged yet another demonstration at the GTM’s head office in Tzaneen — and yet again couldn’t resist the temptation to cause damage to property by burning tyres and tree trunks on the paving at the entrance to the building. The GTM’s staff had to vacate the building and members of the public were refused entry to the building for most of the day. Read our full report on page 5.

(present everywhere), omnibenevolence (perfect goodness), divine simplicity, and eternal and necessary existence. In theism, God is the creator and sustainer of the universe, while in deism, God is the creator, but not the sustainer, of the universe. Monotheism is the belief in the existence of one God or in the oneness of God. In pantheism, God is the universe itself. In atheism, God is purported not to exist, while deemed unknown or unknowable within the context of agnosticism. God has also been conceived as being incorporeal (immaterial), a personal being, the source of all moral obligation, and the “greatest conceivable existent”. Many notable medieval philosophers and modern philosophers have developed arguments for and against the existence of God. There are many names for God, and different names are attached to different cultural ideas about God’s identity and attributes. In the ancient Egyptian era of Atenism, possibly the earliest recorded monotheistic religion, this deity was called Aten, premised on being the one “true” Supreme Being and Creator of the Universe. In the Hebrew Bible and Judaism, “He Who Is,” “I Am that I Am”, and the tetragrammaton YHWH are used as names of God, while Yahweh, and Jehovah are sometimes used in Christianity as vocalizations of YHWH. In Judaism, it is common to refer to God by the titular names Elohim or Adonai, the latter of which is believed by some scholars to descend from the Egyptian Aten. In Islam, the name Allah, “Al-El,” or “Al-Elah” (“the God”) is used, while Muslims also have a multitude of titular names for God. In Hinduism, Brahman is often considered a monistic deity. Other religions have names for God, for instance, Baha in the Bahá’í Faith, Waheguru in Sikhism, and Ahura Mazda in Zoroastrianism. The many different conceptions of God, and competing claims as to God’s characteristics, aims, and actions, have led to the development of ideas of Omnitheism, Pandeism, or a Perennial philosophy, wherein it is supposed that there is one underlying theological truth, of which all religions express a partial understanding, and as to which “the devout in the various great world religions are in fact
worshipping that one God, but through different, overlapping concepts or mental images of him.” Vlieg dink hy sou maklik ‘n Omniteïs of Pandeïs kon gewees het. So of Vlieg se god nou jou god, jou god my god, of my god jou god is, Ogod, selfs i-god of in Gauteng dalk e-god, kan ons mekaar nie maar net liefhê nie?

Being and principal object of faith. The concept of God as described by theologians commonly includes the attributes of omniscience (infinite knowledge), omnipotence (unlimited power), omnipresence

In the second round of the Kruger versus Krüger legal battle about an acknowledgement of debt pertaining to a loan of R3,2 million Rand, Mr Tolstoi Kruger’s King Trade Investments 211 (Pty) Ltd came out the winner and Mr Conrad Krüger’s Blue Moontlight Properties 82 (Pty) Ltd as the first defendant and Krüger personally as the second defendant have been found by the court to be liable to pay the plaintiff an outstanding balance of R1, 060 million Rand and to pay the plaintiff ’s legal cost. Tolstoi Kruger In the first round Blue Moonlight/ Krüger won the legal arguments that they were not liable on what was said to be a technical point. King Trade/Kruger, however, did not accept that, revised their earlier claim and took it back to the court. The process is a rather technical one from a layman’s perspective, but the crux of the story is that Blue Moonlight and Krüger are now responsible for the outstanding amount. If it is still in dispute Blue Moonlight/Krüger will have to lodge an appeal and approach a higher court. In the meantime Fillsant General Trading CC from Pretoria obtained a warrant of execution against Blue Moonlight and Krüger for an Conrad Krüger amount of R5 359 506,00. Rashid terrified Mr Rashid Bagas (66) who is staying with his wife Fazia at Morgenson Farm outside Politsi, where he was born, is still terrified by what happened to him on Sunday night. He was alone in the house since his wife was in Johannesburg visiting their children. Bagas said, “I felt like someone was watching me and I also felt like something bad was going to happen to me, after I had come home from a religious gathering”. The next moment thugs broke into his house; getting in through a store room door and breaking the burglar bars protecting a window. Some expensive items such as a flat screen TV valued R9 000, three cell phones and R1 000 cash were stolen. “The thugs were stupid not to notice a box with tanzanite and gem stones in the cupboards where they were searching for goods to take”, Bagas said. He says he is worried about their safety, after the incident. Police are investgating.

R2,4 million for a road that doesn’t exist! The DA will be approaching the Public Protector to probe Greater Letaba Municipality for paying a contractor R2,4 million for a road that does not exist. So says Mr Timothy Maluleke, a DA councillor of the GLM. The municipality has appointed a contractor to upgrade the streets from gravel to paving blocks at Sekgopo for 1,0 km but only 607 metres was done. The contractor was paid the full amount of R2,4 million without completing the work. Furthermore, another contractor was appointed to build a low level bridge in the same village, but nothing was done. The GLM has already paid R50 000 to a
contractor and it is allegedly in the process of paying another R102 000 for the bridge that does not exist. Several tenders were allegedly also issued to close allies of senior officials without following the correct procedures. The municipality got a disclaimer opinion from the Auditor General for the past financial year. An estimated R54 million cannot be accounted for and is regarded as an irregular expenditure. Unauthorised expenditure also amounted to R39 million. The DA want the Public Protector to further probe the financial affairs and tender irregularities with immediate effect.

Speaking to Bulletin on these allegations, GTM spokesperson, Mr. Neville Ndlala said that they are not aware of these accusations and that without sufficient evidence; these claims are null and void. “We have not received any formal grievance with regard to any matter related to tribalism and unfair treatment, and we are confident that if such grievance is forwarded, management will sufficiently deal with it. Smoke from burning tyres choked at the building of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality when the South African Municipal Workers Union embarked on a strike on Monday, 8 September. Salary disparities in the municipality were the main cause of the strike, which SAMWU insists should be reviewed, of which GTM management fully agreed with, however processes and procedures must be followed and adhered to. The two parties had been in consultations and a meeting was expected but later cancelled due to the strike. On the same day, GTM management met with SAMWU leadership where it was agreed that the strike be suspended pending the investigation, report and recommendations by a service provider known as

Die keersy
Who should speak for the voiceless? Last month, Meg Rickards, a white Capetonian filmmaker, was criticised for her 22 km walk from Cape Town to Muizenberg while covered in bruises wearing only undergarments in what she claimed was an awareness campaign on assaults against sex workers. She undermines her privilege as a white woman to be heard and taken seriously in society as compared to sex workers, who are mostly black and coloured, the critics began. She should have included the voices of real sex workers; she could have done so at night, as that’s when these assaults mostly occur; it’s another white person speaking up for black people; and so on and so forth. While I agree, it is much easier for certain people to be listened to and heard in society due to socio-economic classes and the privileges thereof, and that Rickard’s campaign could have been better and perhaps more representative; I applaud her initiative and attempt to start the dialogue. I was recently criticised on my articles on rape culture and multi-tasking. “…the research is too Western,” the kind critic said. “You could have paid more focus on our area, the villages and townships around,
Die mense hoor
Let wel: Hulle sê nie so nie!

there are plenty of examples from local villages, you could have compiled your own research, we don’t relate,” and so on and so forth. It is indeed true, more localised examples, research and articles would have brought the subject closer to home. However, for an area like ours, one has to look at the availability of such materials – research, articles and examples. One has to consider whether people can be open about and share their experiences to bring the awareness on issues urgent in our society. In the meantime, and as we wait for the material to come forth or be compiled, we cannot not be vocal about what is happening in our communities. We cannot not make the awareness about urgent issues, which need urgent attention, in our communities. Moreover, issues such as rape culture, sexual assaults, gender-based victimisations and many more are common world-
“So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib He had taken out of the man, and He brought her to the man” — Genesis 2: 21 & 22 God created woman as an equal to man yet still today we find that often woman are seen as “lesser beings”. Men often do not treat woman as they should. This could be put down to their upbringing, culture or just plain ignorance. If God gave women to man then it is right that they should be considered a gift from God and treated in the same way as one treats any gift from God; with respect, honour and most importantly with love. As we know a woman’s role in the family is one of the most important roles anyone can fulfil. So why then is there so much violence against women, do we consider them as just there for our pleasure and entertainment? A woman should be held up as a wonderful creation from God and treated as such. We will all have to answer when we finally meet our Maker and I know that we will be brought to task. So let us all respect, love and honour them. Blessings.

wide, and rather concealed in conservative communities like ours. We draw from texts compiled elsewhere to start the dialogue in our own communities. We also cannot not be vocal about these issues because we have not experienced the issues at hand/been directly victimised ourselves. One can argue, assaults on sex workers – many of whom are women, for example, and the ignorance thereof, stem from a deeper root than that we are appalled by the services sex workers provide. I dare say, some attacks on sex-workers cannot be removed from the belief that a woman’s body belongs to everyone but herself – her husband, her future offspring for nurturing, her family for traditional purposes and so on – and the need to control it thereof. Thus, as a woman myself, I will stand-up for sexworkers/people/women’s rights and authority to their own bodies. Thus also, instead of criticising Rickards for her deemed flawed awareness campaign, I appreciate the initiative. Another person might do it better or she might improve on it, but at least a dialogue was initiated.
From The Horse’s Mouth * The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been requested to probe seven police officials who allegedly brutally assaulted and detained a councillor in the Fetakgomo Municipality, Mr Derick Mosoana, during a community protest. * A task team will investigate the shocking incident in Vhembe where a teacher forced two pupils to drink their own urine in full view of their class mates at a primary school. * The multi-million Rand pilot project at Muyexe, a village outside Giyani, seems to be a total failure. Pres Zuma aanounced the project during a visit to Limpopo, a few years ago, and apparently saw to it that a huge amount of money be made available for the project. The DA in Limpopo did an inspection at the project and found that almost nothing is happening there. * The shocking state of a dilapidated government facility — part of which allegedly collapsed only three months after completion — used by the Social Development Agency at Mohlabaneng outside Giyani has prompted the DA in Limpopo to call for an investigation into government’s planning and intended achievement with the facility. People working there claim that there has been no water for the last three years, causing an unbearable stench. The lives of the staff working in parts of the building are also compromised as the cause of the severe damage has never been established. * School children living near Mohlabaneng, Giyani, still can’t enjoy the luxury of proper class rooms, despite a R17m state of the art school in close proximity. The school was completed in 2010, but is still not being used. The buildings and expensive furniture are being vandalised. It is not known why this white elephant is not being opened and used. • See photos on page 9.

AgriSA kap terug oor grondbesit
Delayed treatment for injured patient
It is still not clear when Mr Mohammed Ali of Tzaneen will be treated for his serious injuries. In our 1 August 2014 issue, Bulletin reported on an accident in Agatha Street, Tzaneen, where Ali was injured after a car had pushed over a wall onto him, leaving him badly injured. Ali was taken to Van Velden Hopital, transferred to Letaba, later brought back to Van Velden and then put on a waiting list for Mankweng — where he also received no treatment to date. Ali is now
Plasie duo cooked up a storm Kim Maritz and Nicole Godfrey of Merensky High School competed in the PicknPay school chefs’ final, hosted at the Prue Leith Chefs Academy in Centurion. Twenty school teams from all over the country competed in five rounds over two days. Kim and Nicole participated with “Plasie Pride” being their main ingredient. The set theme for their menu was: “African Cuisine, Cape

According to Kim, teamwork was key and time management their biggest challenge. The part of the “new” building of the Social Development Agency’s building that collapsed (See info on page 6: “From the horse’s mouth”).

SLC clinches win in uphill battle Stanford Lake College’s first cricket team played against Heuwelkruin and won a steep uphill challenge. The toss was won by Stanford who elected to send Heuwel in to bat. They soon had Heuwelkruin in trouble, taking early wickets. But Heuwelkruin recovered well to put up a good score of 221 all out. Matthew Maritz and Jason Wright took two wickets each. Stanford then knew they had to bat very well in order to chase the score. It was key that one of the top order batsmen batted through the innings, and Conrad Schmidt provided that stability scoring 78 not out. He was well supported by Benno Prinsloo (61) and Fraser Thompson (21). Stanford managed to pass the opposition’s score with 4 wickets down in the 36th over, winning convincingly.
Pfunanane Academy in Modjadjiskloof ended a very successful cross country season with nineteen medals at the LLSV Championships held at Duiwelskloof Primary School last week. They won eghteen overall year-end medals, winning overall medals in every girls’ race, and in boys under u.7, u.8, u.12, u.13 and u.14. They won eleven team competitions, even taking all three medals in the girls u.7 and boys u.14. Pfunanane had 37 of their athletes named to the LLSV team for being in the overall top ten, after their
highest scores had been averaged. At every LLSV meeting this year, they won between twelve and nineteen medals and never fewer than nine team competitions — and thirty of their athletes won a medal at some point during the season. The children show incredible dedication to the sport, doing hour-long daily workouts without complaining. They have also been repeatedly commended for their good behaviour, manners and team unity. Pictured are the 37 children who received certificates for being in the top ten, as well as the thirty children who won medals during the season, and the eighteen LLSV overall medal winners.
Inskryfgeld beloop R500/span.
Loftus Versfeld, 14 Augustus 1974: Paul Bayvel — Doef! Gerald Bosch — DOEF! Britse Leeus 28-9 Suid-Afrika. Vrystaatstadion, 2 Junie 1976: Paul Bayvel — Doef! Gerald Bosch — DOEF! Nieu-Zeeland 15-9 Suid-Afrika. Paterson-stadion, Perth, 6 September 2014: Ruan Pienaar — Doef! Morné Steyn — DOEF! DOEF! Doeffft!
‘Tja, maatjies maak nie so nie, boet! “If you’ve never been a villain, you’ll never be a hero.” — Carlos Ghosn
