Nuwe stof dwarrel om Tzaneen-prokureurs Die gedrag van nog bekende prokureurspraktyke in Tzaneen is nou ook onder die Prokureursorde (Orde) se vergrootglas ingeskuif — en dit is ‘n geval van en nog is het einde niet. Die Bulletin het eers Woensdagaand dokumente hieroor onder oë gehad en dit word tans nog deur ons bestudeer. Intussen, soos vroeër eksklusief deur die Bulletin berig is, het die aansoek om skorsing teen me Karin de Jager misluk en sy praktiseer volstoom as prokureur, aktevervaardiger en notaris — nou saam
met mnr Flippie Coetzer wat al geruime tyd in ‘n eenmanpraktyk in die dorp praktiseer. Hy sal van 5 Januarie af in dieselfde gebou waar De Jager praktiseer (die gebou waar De Jager altyd was en steeds praktiseer) as prokureur werk. De Jager het die kurator wat vir die Orde besig is met ‘n ondersoek na die sake van De Jager en mnr Jenke Nagel (wat intussen wel as prokureur geskors is) se vorige praktyk (KrügerNagelDeJager) eers bygestaan — maar sy is sedert Maandag voluit aan die gang en bewerings as De Jager sou De Jager nie (mag)

The moves come after Samwu had obtained a labour court interdict agains Mkhombo’s appointment, as well as the appointment of one Mgama Mathye as acting director of planning and economic development.

In a media statement the GTM’s spokesperson, Mr Neville Ndlala, tries his level best to tone down the impact of the latest development and the council’s haphazard way of handling matters. For a change the GTM, who has over spent on legal fees for the last number of years, decided not to contest the court order. Ndlala says “council took (this) decision in a bid to avoid a prolonged legal battle which council view as unnecessary and a waste of taxpayers’ money”. Observers find it amusing that the council now care about rate payers’ money... since they have allowed Mankabidi to sit at home for seven months (at about R100 000 a month), showing no serious concern for rate payers’ money being wasted — and it could go on for at least another three months!

Vlieg raak ook maar moeg hier na die einde van die jaar toe. Vir hierdie selfsugtige rede en omdat hy die Afrikaners darem ‘n breek wil gee, wil hy vandeesweek, ter wille van die internasionale poging tot bewusmaking van nog ‘n euwel, anders as eendersdenkende eendersdenkende Afrikaners, ook sy stuiwer in die armbeurs gooi. Dit beteken nie noodwendig dat Vlieg klaar is met voormelde Afrikaners vir hierdie jaar nie. Vlieg se wetenskap kry maar so af en toe te doen met gesinsgeweld, geweld teenoor vroue en ongelukkig ook met geweld teenoor maaiers en papies. Soos Vlieg ook maar soms doen, dra hy graag die onderstaande lied op aan alle weerlose slagoffers van hierdie onverstaanbare en laakbare verskynsel in die samelewing. Samac hosts world event The SA Macadamia Growers Association (SAMAC) expects bigger global exposure when they will be hosting the seventh international macadamia symposium at Skukuza in the Kruger National Park next year. This was disclosed yesterday by Ms Bonnie Buthelezi of Subtrop in Tzaneen, saying that the conference will take place from 11 – 13 Au-
gust. It will provide a great opportunity to learn and discuss recent advances in the macadamia industry and to establish contacts and collaborations with participants from many different parts of the world. SAMAC is the world’s largest exporter of macadamias and production is increasing each year.
Khutso Evans Malapane It was with great sadness and shock that the Vossies learned of Khutso Malapane’s death in a motor accident near Mokopane on Saturday. His uncle also died in the accident. Ben Vorster High School issued a statement to express the school’s heartfelt sympathy. “Our prayers go out to the family at this very difficult time. The Lord said ‘blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted’ and so the Vossies pray for strength from these words.” “Khutso attended Ben Vorster from January 2010 and he wrote his matric exam on 25 November. A precious life tragically cut short on the dangerous roads of Limpopo! During his years at “Vossie Land”, Khutso was an example of friendliness and good manners. He had a very good work ethic and was

Fruit goes to China A step towards extended fruit export to the East was activated when Fruit SA visited the China Fruit and Vegetable Fair in Beijing to address market access for SA fruit producers. Fruit SA was part of a delegation of eighteen countries as guests of the Chinese. Ms Bonnie Buthelezi, liaison officer for Subtrop in Tzaneen, said the SA delegation had a positive meeting about Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine. The fruit industry also received great support from the SA Embassy in Beijing. Buthelezi said with the potential of market access for more fruit types from SA to China, there are endless opportunities for small holder farmers to grow into commercial producers — which contribute approximately R21 billion to the country’s GDP.

Rape drugs confiscated A 38-year-old Kenyan male national and his 23-year-old Somali female partner were arrested for the possession of drugs in Gauteng, earlier during the week. Arrests in Modjadjiskloof The police in Modjadjiskloof arrested 28 people for various criminal activities over the past weekend: seven people were arrested for contravening the Road Traffic Act, seven for contravening the Liquor Act, eight for illegal immigration, three for assault GBH and the rest for rape, gambling and malicious damage to property.
Arrested for drug dealing Two Nigerian men aged 25 and 34, together with a 25-year-old woman reportedly from Kempton Park in Gauteng, were arrested for dealing with drugs in Lephalale earlier in the week. After doing some investigations, the Police found the 25-year-old in possession of two sealed packets of snacks. Ten and eight rocks of cocaine were found inside the packets respectively. The cocaine is estimated to have a street value of R250 000.
Young boy drowned Twelve-year-old Makatani Hope Malatji drowned after he allegedly slipped and fell into a dam while walking along with another boy (13) and a dog at Tickyline. The thirteenyear-old companion reportedly ran to call for help. Members of the community arrived in their numbers at the scene. The Police were also called to the scene. Malatji’s body was later removed from the water by Politsi’s K9 Police Unit. The SAPS appeal to all members of the community to take double care of their children, especially during the rainy season.

A 75-year-old man was arrested for the brutal killing of his 61-year-old brother, Jacob Nkwana, in Lenyenye earlier this week. Attempted farm attack Five suspects are on the run after they allegedly attempted an attack at Bothma Boerdery, situated along the Deerpark/ Modjadji road, late last week. The Tzaneen Police reportedly received information via the CPF in Sector 8 on the intended farm attack beforehand and decided to go and wait for the criminals at the farm. The five suspects arrived armed, but changed tactics and entered the farmhouse instead. Shooting ensued from inside the house until the police officers approached them. The suspects managed to run to the nearest bushes and disappeared. Nothing was stolen from the farm. No injuries were reportedly sustained by either the police or the occupants of the house.
Five years imprisonment Makwela Mathibela Teagas (21) from Marumofase Village, Lenyenye, was convicted of culpable homicide in the Naphuno Regional Court earlier this week. The 21-year-old allegedly stabbed to death a 22-year-old man from Marumofase with a sharp object during a fight in a tavern earlier in the year. He has been sentenced to five years imprisonment. He was previously denied bail until his trial.

Kidnapping and murder Mr Victor Makwela was stabbed in the stomach and died on the spot after he had tried to help a woman who had been kidnapped from a tavern at Lephephane Village over the weekend. Makwela, together with other commuters at the tavern, ran after the kidnapper with intentions to rescue the woman when he fled with her. After stabbing Makwela, the suspect managed to run away, leaving the woman behind. She reportedly sustained no injuries but was left traumatised. The suspect is known but at large at the moment. The Police urge anyone with information to contact W/O Magazi at 082 414 2710. Investigations are also underway.

Residents up in arms
Residents of Mokgoloboto (next to Nkowankowa) took full control over the R36 on Wednesday and yesterday, forcing motorists as far as The Oaks and Sekororo to travel via Letsitele to Tzaneen — and causing traffic to and from Tzaneen to come to a standstill. The mass action is the result of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s failure to answer to their demands which they submitted on 8 October 2014. They made it clear in October that should their water demand not be met, they would take action. An urgent meeting between Mopani mayor Nkakareng Rakgoale, GTM mayor Dikeledi Mmetle and protest leaders was
held, where it was agreed that the two mayors should address the community’s demands and concerns. GTM spokesperson Neville Ndlala yesterday said that the community’s concerns have been noted and their demands will be addressed and dealt with as a matter of urgency. He said the majority of the residents are against opening the R36. “We will send personnel to make sure that the community is receiving water today

Friday 05 December 2014 To present the news — factually, impartially, comprehensively and without fear or favour — is easier said than done, especially in a small community. To report yet again about problems in the local legal fraternity, is not easy or pleasant — it is hurtful and we certainly do not do so to our satisfaction. We are (and have been) accused, blamed and even threatened, for simply being the messenger. We publish and distribute news. The terms good news and bad news are not part of our vocabulary. However, people experience news subjectively and what some experience as bad news, others may see as good news, and vice versa. But there is another aspect of the last few weeks’ news about “naughty” members of the local legal profession that begs to be seen in context: do not stereotype, since that would be wrong, unfair, even irrational and dangerous. Problems and wrongs will come to the surface in any profession. Appearances are, after all, deceptive — but to treat everyone in the legal fraternity alike will be equal to a miscarriage of justice (if we may borrow an expression from legal terminology). Avoid witch-hunting, be reasonable and remain loyal to the majority of lawyers who are honest and sincere.

Every Sunday, in our church, the congregation says the following: “Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again” and after communion; the priest says “Give thanks to the Lord for He is gracious” to which the congregation reply: “His mercy endures forever”. I wonder if this has just become a habit or if the meaning really gets through? Yes we know Christ died on a cross in the most horrible way, and on the third day He rose again and ascended in to heaven. This is what Christians believe because they have faith. Faith in the unknown, we did not see this happen but believe what the scriptures tell us. Soon we will celebrate Christ’s birthday. However, Christmas has become so commercialized, that people often forget the true meaning behind this time of year. Advent has started and this is a time we should start to prepare ourselves spiritually for the celebration. A time to do introspection, are we ready to be taken up in the euphoria of this special time, a time for family and friends to get together once again. How many will attend the Christmas services provided by the many churches? Will it be a time of peace, or will it just be a time of indulgence? It is time once again to put Christ back into Christmas and most importantly, to thank Christ for what He has done in our lives. Many a time this year perhaps we did not feel that Christ was with us, when things went wrong. But, He was there, He shared our sorrows and our pain, all we needed to do was to turn to Him. How often did we blame Him? Our faith is often so weak that we doubt His presence in our everyday life. Are we ready for His coming again? He, Himself said: “No one knows the time or place when I will return.” It is never too late to repent and turn to Him. Have a Blessed Christmas.

However, we cannot give precedence to some and undermine others. In my first year of university I remarked to my cousin that, all in all, it appeared there were more girls falling pregnant in my high school than the number of girls falling pregnant in the entire UCT. This might not have been true, but my cousin pointed that the reason UCT students were seemingly not falling pregnant in great num-
bers was not because they were not having sex. “University students are obviously more educated and know more about birth control, they are probably having more sex than high school learners who are chastised from such things,” she said. By no means am I advocating that high school learners should engage in sexual relations. However, how much does the level of teenage pregnancy among black teenagers has to do with sex education and access to birth control, or the chastisement thereof? My assumptions are based on the education I received in high school and from my community. It is also layered sexual oppression for the black woman at the margins of society.

Die tema van die Geloftefees by Tzaneen vanjaar is Die Wonder van die Ossewa. In die volksgeskiedenis van die Afrikaner word die ossewa meesal beklemtoon in die Groot Trek van 1835 tot 1838. Dog vir bykans 300 jaar en oor tien geslagte heen was die ossewa vir lang tye ‘n huis vir Afrikanergesinne. Die verhaal van die ossewa of Voortrekkerwa, ook genoem die kakebeenwa, én die latere bokwaens of transportwaens, is ‘n sage waarom daar ‘n romanse kleef, wat dikwels in ons geskiedskrywing gemis word. Hierdie sage vind sekerlik ‘n hoogtepunt in die Slag van Bloedrivier, waar die veelgeroemde

Brandrissies kan aan produsente die geleentheid bied om nuwe markte te ontgin, deur te konsentreer op gehalte en eenvormige hitte-eenhede, en sodoende kan hulle ‘n naam skep vir hulself ten opsigte van uitvoere of verskeie verwerkte produkte. Die segmentasie binne die brandrissie-groep is baie groot en nie altyd duidelik nie, met sekere groepe, wat meer bekend en gewild is as ander. Daar is ’n verskeidenheid groepe wat onbekend is en markte kan nog ontwikkel, as die regte variëteite verkry word binne die groepe. Sakata het uitgebreide kweekprogramme op meeste van die brandrissie-segmente, insluitende vars- en drogingsmarkte. Fury is ’n baie bekende brandrissievariëteit wat oor die jare goeie resultate gelewer het, met goeie vruggehalte, hoë opbrengste en die vermoë om oor ’n lang groeiseisoen te produseer. Die variëteit word geklassifiseer as ’n tipiese Indiese-thai chilli, met vrugte wat tussen 70 en 100 mm lank word en 10 mm dik, met ’n skerp punt. Die kleur is baie eenvormig en kan as groen of rooi vrugte geoes word. Fury het ’n goed gebalanseerde smaak, en dit is ook eenvormig in die hitte-eenhede. Our dam is under threat
Tzaneen Dam, ranked as one of the finest bass fishing spots in South Africa, is under threat from poachers. This will have a domino effect on the town’s tourism, if it is not stopped. Mr Wayne Kurten, chairman of the Letaba Bassmasters, says net poaching has escalated sharply in the last eighteen months. There is also spear fishing believed to be done by school children. The licence to legally spearfish in freshwater is very expensive to obtain, hence it is unlikely that they are legitimate. Tzaneen Dam has many ‘fingers’ making policing very difficult. The nets are strung along ‘knuckle’ to ‘knuckle’. Recently a sixty meter long net was hauled out. The expertly hand fashioned nets are the trademark of subsistence fishermen from neighbouring countries. Bass are highly evolved and their mentality is likened to that of a dog, so bass seldom get entangled in a net. However their fodder fish, specifically the different species of bream and smaller carp are eradicated by the nets. This could result in a knock-on effect for other delicate species like dolphin fish, mosquito fish and dwarf tiger fish. Other popular angling species like carp, barbell and bream are being caught on a huge scale. Netting disturbs the spawn banks and hence the propagation of the species. In the past a winning bag of 10 kg plus was required to take top honours at the annual Tzaneen Bass Classic. Fishermen now battle to get 7 kg bags. There were some hundred boats in the Tzaneen Bass Classic, held in June every year, with a first prize of R40 000. The boat entries are now less than half that. Tzaneen Dam is surrounded by uncontrolled forests, including the Hans Merensky Reserve.

This makes easy access for illegal fishing. There is no problem in KwaZulu-Natal as the province limits bass on certain dams and it’s strictly catch and release. There’s access control and permanent water policemen are appointed. Kurten says that the Police’s Water Wing from Polokwane will send officers to the dam this month. The Water Wing was at the dam earlier this year and removed several nets. The solution would be to reinstate fishing licences which in turn could pay towards the policing of the Dam. Abandoning fishing licences in Mpumalanga and Limpopo opened the door for illegal practise. “We’re going to land up with a dam full of water and nothing else,” said Kurten. An appeal to Mr Seaparo Charles Sekoati, Minister of Nature Conservation in Limpopo, as well as several heads of other departments has fallen on deaf ears.
