Vir Vlieg is Januarie amper soos ‘n Maandag.

Stille nag, heilige nag !

He is studying for an M Sc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management at Oxford University’s School of Geography and the Environment. He says he chose the course to prepare himself for a career in wildlife conservation in Southern Africa (Zimbabwe or SA). It is a one year M Sc and he has already applied to continue at Oxford with a Ph D on wild dog conservation. Mr Kuiper also got married in December (in SA) to Ms Danica Coetzee who will join him in Oxford before the end of this month.
Tiyiselani Miranda Nkuna (11), a Gr 6 pupil of Phalaborwa who represented SA in Turkey where she was crowned first princess in the category “African Continent” in the International contest for fashion, beauty and talents, wants to donate half of her prize money to charity if she wins again this year. The young beauty will be defending her title in April as well as contesting for the “World princess” title. The competition is known as Festival Model and Talent World (FM&TW) and will take place in Antalya, one of the tourism towns in Turkey. Asked on why she wants to donate half of her prize money to charity, Tiyiselani said she felt compelled to contribute to building a better society, by giving to those that do not have. “I feel touched when I pass by a poor kid scrambling for food in the street... it reminds me of how fortunate I am to have a good home and parents that can afford to put a daily meal on the table for me and my siblings,” she said. According to Tiyiselani’s mother Tiyiselani will be going to Turkey accompanied by her 13-year-old sister Congi, who also qualified to enter the competition last year. The girls’ mother is struggling to raise the funds for their travel expenses. “The two of them need at least R83 000 for airline tickets, excluding accommodation which is very expensive as well,” explained their mother, appealing to business people and government to help them. As from Friday last week, Bulletin has been trying to communicate with the MDM regarding a special council meeting which also took place last week where Maake’s fate was to be possibly known, but our attempts to get comment from the spokesperson were unsuccessful as he was neither available on his phone or in a “meeting”. Maake was granted a few days to answer to council’s intention to suspend him after it identified certain contraventions of regulations and negligence on his part. Maake is also being investigated by the Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the SA Police Service for fraud, corruption, racketeering and money laundering.

Total shutdown in Malamulele continues The community of Malamulele says it is not backing down until its pleas are met with a positive response from government. The community has been engaged in a total shutdown of shops, schools, offices and other activities in the area. The people demand their own municipality. It took a resolution to continue until Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Pravin Gordhan responds in the affirmative. “Although we will allow emergency institutions such as hospitals and the SAPS to operate, we will continue our total shutdown until the minister responds positively to our grievances,” said one community member, Dr Isaiah Ndhambhi, at a media briefing. Ndhambhi also said the Malamulele community’s representaMthombeni tive task team will
formalise a march to Pretoria and write a letter to Gordhan as well as the premier, Mr Stanley Mathabatha, and the MEC for Coghsta in the province to inform them of their resolution. “The president will also receive a copy of the letter,” he added. Meanwhile, some ANC members in the area accused the government of having Mthombeni moved away from the freedom charter which says “the people shall govern” and they are now forcing dictatorship on people. “As you can see, it’s no longer the people that are governing but government imposing itself on people,” said Mr John Mthombeni, the vice-chairperson of the Zinjivha Nkondo ANC branch in Malamulele. The resolution to continue with the shutdown caused consumers to panic and people rushed to shops to grab whatever they could before the shutdown — which has already
caused losses of millions of Rands. When asked about the impact of the shutdown on businesses and the community at large, Ms Basani N’umalo, one of the residents and a small business wom-

Lephepane Primary bids veteran farewell As the 2014 school year drew to a close, the staff of Lephepane Primary School bade farewell to one of their long serving colleagues at the school. At age sixty, Mr Enock Molepo decided it was time he retired from full time teaching. The sixty-year-old taught at the primary school for 38 years, after having begun his career at the tender age of 22 in 1976. He taught various subjects from Sepedi Home Language to English Additional Language and mathematics. His colleagues, some of whom say they were also taught by him, gathered at the Makgoebaskloof Rest Camp to celebrate his work at the school. In cheerful spirits, the staff described Molepo, whom by the time of his retirement was the longest serving teacher at the school, as someone who was like a mentor to them when they joined the school. “A very neat, stern, punctual, orderly and organised man,
who, however, was Started in 1912, not welcoming to Lephepane Primary School is one of the change and could endeavour to make oldest schools in the area. CFO refutes allegations The chief financial officer and acting municipal manager of the greater Tzaneen Municipality, Ms Nora Lion, has refuted allegations that she does not have a matric certificate — and she has provided a certified copy of her matric certificate to Bulletin. Apart from the matric certificate she also provided proof (certified copies) of three degrees that she has obtained. In 2001 she obtained a Bachelor of Accounting Science from Unisa (where she was
employed at the time) and in 2008 she obtained a Honours Bachelor of Accounting Science, also from Unisa, as well as an M Comm from the North-West University. In a letter to various ministers, senior political leaders and even the Public Protector, Adv Thule Madonsela, it is alleged (amongst other things) that Lions did not pass matric. Bulletin published the contents of the letter (exclusively) in our last edition in 2014. Lion says she has a good idea about the origin of the letter. She says jealousy has probably played the most important role in the mind of the person(s) who compiled the smear letter.
In addition to bidding Molepo farewell, the staff celebrated members of the community it felt had positively influenced both the school and the community. Together with Molepo, Letsoalo gave certificates of appreciation to: - Ms Shingange of Thabeng Primary School in Khujwana for her outstanding support of school functions in the area. - Mr Mpapa Daniel Rakgoale for his peaceful initiation of progress and development in the area. According to Letsoalo, “unlike many members of our community who take to burning tires and blockading roads to attain certain developments in the area, Rakgoale approaches the relevant stakeholders to ensure that things happen. Over the years, he has been at the forefront of developments at clinics, schools and infrastructure, amongst others, in the area.” — Joy Mojela

Uniform or not Our article in last week’s edition about the (high) cost of school uniforms has upset certain people, who now accuse us of being against school attire. We are not against uniformity! We are, however, concerned about the escalated cost of school uniforms. We say schools and governing bodies should be sensitive about the cost implications of school attire. Uniforms should not be allowed to become some sort of a fashion statement. It should be practical (the Southern Cross School at Hoedspruit sets a good example of a more relaxed and informal affair). In the UK the government decided in 2013 to urge schools to stop using a single uniform supplier and to also stop profitsharing schemes that existed between some schools and shops (suppliers). We support the idea of distinctive clothing and the expression of identity in and by schools wholeheartedly. It brings equality to the clothes children wear in school and it promotes a sense of cohesion. Distinctive clothing increases a sense of belonging and school pride. But does it have to be a financial burden for parents, especially those whose situation is subject to serious financial stress? And should the monopolizing of supplying school uniforms be tolerated? This issue calls for more debete.
Die Reis
Toe ek ‘n jong seuntjie was, het my pa altyd ‘n speletjie met my gespeel.
Of hoe?
Dan het ek my eie drome gedroom oor waarheen ons gaan. Ek het gedink: “My pa gaan vir my ‘n draai-roomys koop.” My te-
Trauma: kinders is baie kwesbaar In vandag se aflewering oor spelterapie behandel me Margie van Tonder van Tzaneen, hoe trauma ‘n kind se lewe kan ontwrig. Kontak haar by 084 414 6166 of 015 307 5029.
Trigger warning: not for the faint of heart!
The problem with anti-feminist good men — men who are ‘good’ humans but do not believe in gender-equality! A douchebag (contraceptive douche) is an asshole slang equivalent we progressives call men who are admittedly and unashamedly misogynists -- these are men on the far-right wing of the genderequality spectrum. With their small brains, they cannot understand why a woman would aspire to anything in life than literally living in the kitchen, making food and popping out babies for her husband. We hate them, get sick in our mouths when see them even. The world would be a better place without them. Good anti-feminist men, on the other hand, are arguably a little
Voorbeelde hiervan is gesinsgeweld of
more tolerable and rational than douchebags, though I will later argue they are not that different from douchebags -- perhaps they are just in the closet for douchebaggery. Douchebaggery: Presenting one’s self in a manner that inspires those around you to wish death and/or serious injury upon you. Those four guys should be shot for committing such unrelenting douchebaggery.

‘n skietvoorval. Bronne geraadpleeg: FSU Center for Prevention and Early Intervention Policy. Jul. 2010.
Pen self neer op ‘n stukkie papier wie van die handeldrywers eintlik nie handel behoort te dryf nie. of a man, and then appeasing him. They understand that women also pursue education and careers these days, but if a woman can find a ‘good loving man’ who gives her an allowance every month, why the devil would she still want to be knowledgeable, earn her own money, hell, even go outside? They will consider working with women, as long as they maintain the dominance. A woman, according to them, is more attractive when she is needy and vulnerable. Essentially, these guys come in varying degrees. Some are nice to women as a favour but adamant women’s brains are smaller than men’s and therefore the gender
pay gap is justifiable. Others will consider equal human rights only for their sisters, mothers, daughters and a few women they deem worthy; but not to the entire female population, and female sexuality is not even a thing. These guys are a problem in society. Their wishy-washiness is arguably the element of both their tolerability and deception. They appear open-minded, but their reluctance to assess their male privilege and admit it is wrong make them as terrible as douche-bags. They will lure you into believing the world is fair and women just like complaining, but shove you into a deeper whole of patriarchal oppression and then blame you for not seeing it coming. Never let them deceive you!

Mayors motivate in Back to School drive Matriculants in the Bulamahlo, Lesedi and Runnymede circuits should start their academic year on a high, after Greater Tzaneen Municipality mayor Dikeledi Mmetle, together with Mopani District Municipality mayor Nkakareng Rakgoale, embarked on a Back to School Campaign on the first day of school for the year. In her speech to motivate pupils, Mmetle said: “The main aim of the campaign is to check annual matric results in order to monitor the progress of schools in the area. The
campaign is conducted annually on the first school week of each year. “The campaign also acknowledges best performing schools and encourages them to keep up and aim to achieve a 100% pass rate. If disadvantaged schools in rural areas such as Cata High School and Mopye High School can achieve it, so can any other school,” Mmetle said to a group of Gr 11 and Gr 12 pupils at Bessie Maake High School. The school was rated the worst performing high school in its circuit in 2014.
Mmetle also noted that the campaign was aimed to motivate worst performing schools and encourage them to also improve on their results.
Park between the white lines…
Parking at the MediClinic Tzaneen is often at a premium, especially during visiting hours. The driver of this vehicle inconsiderately and selfishly parked at the hospital on 14 January, ignoring parking rules. The behaviour of motorists when parking down the road at the Lifestyle Centre also causes problems on a daily basis. It is especially reserved parking for disabled people that is being abused by inconsiderate motorists.

GGM improves its financial handling
Greater Giyani mayor Pat Hlungwani.
The Greater Giyani Municipality has for the first time in its history obtained a qualified audit from the Auditor General. The GGM has progressed from adverse audit status to a qualified audit, just two steps away from a clean audit. “After dwelling on disclaimers for many years without much improvement, this is a great achievement for us as municipality,” explained the GGM’s spokesperson, Mr Steve Mavunda. He said the GGM’s next goal was to obtain a clean audit. According to Giyani Mayor Pat Hlungwani,
the improvement was due to the municipality’s undertaking to deal with issues that saw it struggle to obtain clean audits. “You will recall that we convened several special meetings with an aim of finding a way to decisively deal with issues that led to us failing to get a clean audit,” he said. The mayor also indicated that the GGM would consider issuing motivational performance awards at the end of the year, to motivate its employees to perform even better in all areas of work. However, the opposition parties say there
“Stepping-rock” for local radio presenter
Giyani Community Radio’s Euphine Mabunda says coming second in the best news reader category of the newly presentation of Limpopo Media and Communications Awards’ was a stepping-rock rather than a stepping-stone for her career. Bulletin spoke to the 29-year-old about her job. “It was amazing that after only a few months in the industry I received an award,” she said. She got her big break into the medium in April last year, when GCR was launched. The 29-year-old, who reads news and anchors a current affairs show for the radio, says she is having a blast working in radio. “I grew up listening to the radio, and so it’s something I always knew I’d love to doing.” Mabunda was born and bred in Giyani. She attended Vuronga Primary School and Giyani High School, but completed her matric at Kwangalatilo High School. She proceeded to study for a Bachelor of Arts (Communications) degree at the University of Limpopo and graduated in 2007. It, however, took some time before she could pursue what she now says is her dream job. Her dream is to ultimately work for one of the bigger radio stations.

is nothing to celebrate since the municipality did not attain one hundred percent of its intended goal. “How do you celebrate when you actually did not achieve your goal,” said Mr Willie Mhlongo of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP). DA councillor Hasani Shibambu supported Mhlongo’s view. “Obtaining a qualified audit does not mean you’re there... there’s a lot still to be done,” he said. Orlando Chauke

Sun shines on MHS’s inter house
After the light cloudburst on Wednesday last week, athletes were glad to witness sunny skies when Merensky High School hosted the first athletics meeting of 2015, on Thursday. True to tradition, the different grade groups competed against each other with field and track items. The singing teams started off with a “bang” with the seniors winning the juniors with their spirited performance at the end of the day. An exceptional number of athletes reported at the starting line, creating an expectancy of super athletics over the next six weeks. Sadly it is the last year that the local hero, Phillemon Mabidilala (SA u.17 champion in the 400 m) performed in front of the school at an inter house. His last season as a Plasie athlete will be followed closely. The results for the day:

Ivan excels at SA Schools
Ivan Botha, a Gr11 pupil from Merensky High School participated in the u.16 boys’ category at the SDA Schools swimming championship, which was held in December in Pretoria. He performed very well, and swam in the finals in three of his six events. Ivan competed in the 50 m butterfly and came first in a time of 27,66 sec, and he also swam in the 50 m free style (4th), 100 m butterfly (5th), 200 m free style (11th), 50 m “Ek verstaan nie hoekom die Bulle vandag teen die Windies speel nie,” sê KoosKakie toe ons verlede Sondag aantree vir ons spanpraatjie voor die Tweede Slag van die Wanderers.

Absoluut fenomenaal!

Jenelle shines at biathlon
Merensky athlete Jenelle de Jonge competed at the Mpumalanga Inter Provincial Biathlon in Mbombela. Four provinces were represented. Jenelle scored a total of 2 214 points, and was placed third in the girls u.15 category. She now ranks first in Limpopo! siggewendste stukkie krieketonkunde wat Oubal nog aangehoor het. “Nobody in sport should be called a genius.
