Grave issue
Twenty more burials in Tzaneen. That’s it. The graveyard is full and it will take months before a new graveyard may be developed; or the current one may be enlarged. The Bulletin can confirm today that this piece of grave news leaves Tzaneen’s people in a terrible spot. The consequences are serious and far reaching, since the graveyards in Nkowankowa and Lenyenye are also at capacity. The nearest crematorium is in Polokwane and there may be a chance of laying the dead to rest in Haenertsburg or Modjadjiskloof, but that will cause great inconvenience.

— Francois Aucamp editor@bulletin.us.com

As jy net nie so stupid was nie!

Michael James The speed is not the problem it is small factor people driving like an Ass and taking chances are the main problem. I wonder if the blue lights are also to keep to this speeds then? Its a way of fining more people and collecting more bribes then. Get the un-roadworthy skedonks off and make sure people with licences can drive and did not just pass a few Rand to get one.
Marietta Iuel Will not make a dramatic difference - there is absolutely no respect for the law. Stop streets, solid white lines, speed limits etc etc mean nothing at all to the majority of drivers and common courtesy is non existent.

regte middeljarige Afrikaanse dinosourus. Jy kon eerder geskryf het: “I am proud to be labelled a realist/pessimist/cynic/poepol or even a Vlieg in South Africa if it means that” Maar toe gebruik jy die r-woord! Stupid! Vasbyt! Vlieg

Grave issue — no more space for graves Problems with water; and residents in the area are worried about their borehole water The community of Tzaneen can no longer bury their deceased loved ones locally as the only available cemetery has reached its capacity, with only about twenty grave sites left, but already booked. The only alternative options are the cemeteries in Nkowankowa and Lenyenye, both of which are also under tremendous pressure. The remaining number of graves in the Agatha cemetery are deeper than the prescribed Full House. The Agatha cemetry is very well maintained. Only a few booked sites are left, though. depth to allow double burials if needed. An urgent environmental impact assessment (EIA) is now being done by Polygon Environmental Planning from Tzaneen to determine if the existing cemetery can be expanded, but this could take six months or longer to complete. In terms of the national law on cemeteries a thorough EIA must be done on a proposed graveyard site exceeding 2 500 square meters. The existing graveyard already exceeds this limitation by far, but was introduced early in 1994 – long before the new law on cemeteries took effect in 1998. The Agatha cemetery lies on an embankment next to a vlei area which eventually ends up in the Hamawasha river lower down. In order to enlarge the cemetery the EIA has to establish whether the location is safe for burials. perienced by the municipality, after a huge stone embankment in the area was discovered. This caused flooding of graves at certain levels and the development of new graves was stopped. All bookings for burials at the cemetery were closed soon afterwards due to the situation and applicants were referred to the cemeteries of Nkowankowa and Lenyenye. In the mean time land owners below the cemetery are concerned about the quality of their borehole water, as the seepages from graves could possibly have an effect thereon. They fear that negative results in the testing of borehole water could have a detrimental effect on their property values. The EIA will reveal more detail on the issue, but is still at an early stage. A spokesperson of Polygon said that boreholes will be drilled above and below the cemetery to determine the water quality. A bridge across the vlei area will also be required to give access between the existing and extended part of the cemetery (if approved), which could also cause a delay in the development. The Bulletin has tried in vain to get hold of the GTM’s head of the parks department, Ms Xoliswa Gala, for comment, but she could not be reached. An assurance given by her to call us, never realised. We made about ten calls to her cell phone, but she was just never available. —Louis Roux louis@bulletin.us.com

Namibians visit Tzaneen Mopani District Municipality on Tuesday hosted a Namibian delegation comprising of a variety of local government officials. The visitors wanted to do a comparative study on disaster management at the Mopani District Disaster Centre in Tzaneen. During her speech, MDM mayor Nkakareng Rakgoale outlined a variety of challenges in responding to disasters such as plane crashes, train derailments, floods etc. During their visit, the delegation learned about the link between disaster management and other sectors in the public service, the funding model of the disaster centre, legislation and the policy of disaster management. A variety of presentations and displays by a number of stakeholders formed part of the events.
The University of Venda also made a presentation on “Infusing disaster science into the higher education curriculum”. Rakgoale also said that the MDM believes in the effective implementation of the Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002, which provides for the necessary solutions in reducing the vulnerability of human beings and property from disasters. “I hope that your stay at this center today will be enriching and educational even par your expectations. In so saying I want to wish all our visitors all the best in their comparative learning expedition”, she said. A media briefing and a static display concluded the visit. — Elliot Mathye elliot@bulletin.us.com

Hy is medies ongeskik verklaar.

Radium is ‘n baie interessante element.

Hierdie versteurings verdwyn meestal spontaan. Slaaploopversteuring: Die kind loop in sy/ haar slaap. Oorsake kan biologies (byvoorbeeld klein blaaskapasiteit) of sielkundig wees (byvoorbeeld spanning weens versteurde gesinsverhoudings). Bron: Louw, D.A., Van Ede, D.M., Louw, A.E. 2005. The demystification of menstruation is in order!
Is it not interesting that in most television programs, films and even novels, the women do not regularly get their periods? “There is for me a necessary conversation that seeks to undermine the shaming that happens to some girls around menstruation,” says Dominique Christina (another random phenomenal feminist poet) in her Period Poem. When I am menstruating (such a beautiful word), I sometimes make myself think about the surreal nature of my uterus -- that it naturally haemorrhages to sustain its function. What other life organ has such blood abundant, it regularly sheds some to sustain its life? “Imagine if men were disgusted about rape as they are disgusted about periods,” was one of the messages a German feminist wrote on menstrual pads she pasted on public places in her city to raise awareness on women’s rights. The irony this of course highlights, especially with the above message, is that it makes no sense why periods are disgusting. To menstruate has for so long, and still is, been painted as the most ugly thing the human body does, even the word menstruation is often seen as immoral language. It has to be

replaced with euphemistic explanations such as going to the moon, that time of the month, even periods, etc. The film and television industry has never had a problem depicting bloody situations -- from nose bleeds and people bleeding in hospitals to people bursting each other during boxing and accidents. However, companies advertising sanitary pads had to use some blue jelly substance in place of blood, lest people vomit. The menstrual blood itself, which is really truly the same blood that would come out of one’s nose or mouth and apparently (I was recently enlightened) has no (unusual) odour, has been a subject of
mockery to young girls from many a young man. I recently read that a woman’s menstrual blood can be used/donated to help heart failure patients. “To date, all stem cell trials in the cardiac space use bone marrow and adipose tissue sources. Unlike the painful and highly invasive process of collecting bone marrow and adipose stem cells, our collection processes involves extraction of a small amount of menstrual blood from young healthy donors. In our FDA-cleared manufacturing protocol, one donor generates 20,000 doses,” said Alan Lewis, Ph.D., Medistem’s CEO”, stated one article. Feminists across the world got angry when this picture was initially removed from a social media site because it was seen as ‘indecent’. I used to tell boys the myth that menstrual blood is disgusting probably stems from where the blood comes out. However, the vagina is one of the most dirt intolerant human organs. It and the eye are apparently (I’m no doctor) the only organs in the human body that self-cleanse.

Decorator creates market niche
A background in interior design has led Haenertsburg born Ms Moya Blight (45) to turnkey projects in South Africa and Mozambique. The rock of her business, “Inspired by Moya”, is her passion for cement. She’s come up with an easy to apply, hard wearing, durable and aesthetically pleasing cement-based flooring and walling product for the domestic and light commercial market. The product gives a seamless finish and is popular in areas of extreme heat although it is warmer than tiles. It is easy to clean and price competitive. The cement screed can go over tiles and can be worked onto almost any flooring except wood as wood expands.

People fail to understand the technicalities of cement as things can go wrong if not properly trained. Therefore there’s a need for application by a trained applicator. Stanford Lake College boys’ and girls’ hockey teams played against Merensky and a few days later against Ben Vorster. The games were played in good spirit and overall it was a positive experience of hockey. The boys first team game was played at high intensity with Merensky scoring a goal early on in the game. Stanford came back strongly with Adam McGaffin scoring twice before half time. Both sides had chances in the second half but unfortunately failed to use them. Merensky equalized late in the second half. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. The games against Ben Vorster were played in very warm conditions. SLC’s teams did extremely well. The u.15’s lost 1-0 but the improvement they showed was pleasingly evident despite the defeat. They kept to their game plan throughout the match. The second team also went down 1-0 in the last five minutes against Vorster’s u.16’s. With key players missing and some boys playing for the first time in a number of years, they played extremely well. The first team game was always going to be played at high intensity. Stanford scored early on in the game and played with good structure. As the game went on, Ben Vorster came back into the game, but SLC hung on for a well-deserved 1–0 win. In yet another response to our article on Muhlava area’s protest for clean water supply, Ms Margo McNeal, the DA’s PR councillor in the GTM, says “the water situation in the villages is one of the many things that show government’s neglect of black populated areas”. The 77-year-old councillor, who is originally from the Switzerland, says she has been working and engaging with communities in and around the Greater Tzaneen area since 1963. “There is a lot of history behind the water problems these areas are facing and it is sadly overlooked when outcries such as the recent protest are addressed,” McNeal told Bulletin. According to her, the residents are correct in saying that water infrastructure such as reservoirs, dams and a water supply system exist in the area. “During his reign, the late Chief Minister of what used to be Gazankulu, Mr Hudson Ntsan’wisi, had created a system that would properly supply water in his area. “What the local government — initially the GTM — failed to do when they got into office was to incorporate the formerly separated Tzaneen, Lebowa and Gazankulu water systems into a Master Plan for the supply of the whole area,” she said.

goale, once bragged about the municipality’s blue drop for the area. “It is obviously no secret to see the blue drop is only for Tzaneen,” she pointed out. McNeal refutes the MDM’s claim that residents are responsible for the area’s botched water supply system. “The reason residents are making illegal connections is that the supply system was not working in the first place, and walking a long distance everyday to fetch water is not child’s play,” she said. Moreover, McNeal says she understands residents’ frustration with borehole water. According to her, what the residents are facing is more than just a problem in water supply. There is also a big problem with the management of the sewage system. “If sewage is not properly managed, it disrupts the water table, which results in salty borehole water. Salty water results from dirt (especially sewage) infiltrates,” she explained. In addition, McNeal says government’s usual responses and empty promises to protesters’ grievances are tiring. “I once heard MDM mayor Rakgoale promise to handle water problems in three days after residents in some community protested,” she said. According to her, it is beyond funny and sad that the mayor would promise to deal with such a long term issue in three days, and then look away. The councillor also agreed with Muhlava residents’ complaints that contracted water supply trucks are not consistent in their supply of water and often only go to the area when there is a funeral. “Another problem with these trucks is that they collect dirty water,” she added. — Joy Mojela joy@bulletin.us.com
The Letsitele River used to pass through this Thabina Bridge. According to McNeal, the weather has very little to do with the river’s apparent dry-up. The foreign vegetation by the river — due to the poor management of the environment — has caused a lot of disturbance to the life of the river.

According to McNeal, who says she has countless of times asked the municipality in charge for the Master Plan to no avail, the local municipality seems to only focus on the old Tzaneen water supply system to provide water for the greater area. Hence, the rural areas, more especially, are falling short. In addition, the councillor says the Mopani District Municipality’s mayor, Ms Nkakareng Rak-

Regs is Letaba se hoofafrigter, mnr Johan Steyn.

Dit was nou so hittete!
“The saddest thing in life is wasted talent...”
