Ek sal beslis nie R40 vir ‘n stukkie boerewors en brood betaal nie! Ek het wel ‘n stalletjie gekry waar ek ‘n Prego roll (met ‘n ordentlike stukkie steak) en koeldrank vir R30 kon kry.

Veiligheidsplan vir Letaba-boere kry gestalte Die regering se strategie vir landelike veiligheid om plaaseienaars in die Letabastreek teen misdaad en aanvalle te beskerm, is Woensdag luidkeels op die skouterrein in Tzaneen aangekondig. Tydens ‘n groot saamtrek van polisiehoofde en –offisiere, boere, munisipaliteite en ander rolvertolkers teen misdaad is die veiligheidstrategie deur die polisiehoof van die Tzaneen-streek, brig Thomas Shingange, uitgestippel. Dit sluit ‘n breë en omvattende spektrum van optredes in waarmee oorlog teen plaasboewery verklaar is.
Die nuwe strategie om plase te beveilig en landelike gebiede te ontwikkel is reeds in Julie 2011 deur die destydse minister van polisie aangekondig. Klem is veral gelê op die samewerking tussen die polisie en die gemeenskap om misdaad in die bek te ruk. Hier sal bestaande en nuwe gemeenskapspolisieforums ‘n kernrol speel om landelike veiligheid op ‘n daaglikse grondslag te handhaaf. Benewens die volle samewerking van AgriLetaba en tradisionele leiers sal die krag van straatkomitees in die onderskeie munisipale wyke ook ingespan word, om
wet en orde te handhaaf. Mnr Pieter Vorster, die voorsitter van AgriLetaba, het sy blydskap oor die SAPD se inisiatief te kenne gegee en gesê statistiek wys duidelik dat Letsitele die ergste onder plaasmisdaad deurloop. Dit vertel egter nie die volle verhaal nie, omdat etlike voorvalle onaangemeld in die niet verdwyn. Hy het boere versoek om alle voorvalle by die polisie aan te meld, en hulle by die nuwe strategie in te skakel. “Die laaste woord op die polisiewapen is “diens” en dit is presies wat ons vorentoe in die veiligheidstrategie verlang.”

Paniek oor gas... en toe is voorraad klaar! Daar is beslis ‘n gastekort in die land en handelaars sukkel om in die vraag te voorsien, weens raffinaderye wat vir onderhoudswerk gesluit is. Die tekort geld ook vir petrol en diesel, met verskeie vulstasies in Gauteng wat “droog” gelaat is. Verlede week het die Bulletin berig dat Tzaneen se gashandelaars nie so erg deurloop soos dié in die stede nie. Die koerant was skaars op straat toe die handelaars laat weet het die tekort het ‘n nuwe krisisvlak bereik. Dié toestand, sê mnr Fanie Breytenbach van Bosbok Gas, kan toegeskryf word aan paniek by die publiek, uit vrees dat hulle sonder gas sal moet klaarkom. “Mense wat vroeër een gasbottel op ‘n slag laat vul het, daag nou met vier of
vyf op. Dit het die reserwes vinnig laat krimp.” Hy sê die gas wat uit die Ooste ingevoer word, bereik skaars die binneland. Die meeste daarvan word van Durban versprei en net ‘n klein hoeveelheid vloei hierheen. Die verwagting is egter dat die toestand binne ‘n paar weke sal verbeter, omdat die raffinadery by Sasol in Secunda weer in volle bedryf is. Pluimveeprodusente kan swaar getref word, want sonder gas kan dag-oud kuikens binne een nag by die duisende vrek. Breytenbach sê hy lewer aan Rainbow Chickens buite Tzaneen en sover het hulle nog nie ‘n probleem gehad nie. Mnr Zirk Buys van Gasman sê die situasie by sy onderneming is soortgelyk.
“My pa, Zirk sr, is sedert 1976 in die bedryf. Daar was tekorte in die verlede, maar vanjaar s’n is die ergste wat hy nog ervaar het.” Hulle is verplig om gas by private handelaars in ander streke ten duurste aan te koop en dit dan teen ‘n verlies aan gereelde klante te verskaf. Die prys van gas word gereguleer en handelaars kan die bykomende koste nie van die klant verhaal nie. “Ons sê dankie aan die gasgebruikers in ons gebied wat nie aan die stormloop deelneem nie. Dis net ‘n tydelike krisis en die tekort behoort in die volgende twee weke iets van die verlede te wees.” — Louis Roux

Die Boodskap Dr Jan Truter Ned Herv Kerk Letsitele
Help Polisiehoof Tzaneen en omgewing wat as een Polisiedistrik (“cluster”) operasioneel is, is gelukkig om ‘n (redelik nuwe) bevelvoerder vir die distrik te hê. Ten spyte van skeptisime by ‘n breë band van die publike geniet hy die ondersteuning van ‘n bemoedigende groep senior offisiere, swart en wit, mans en vroue. Die distrik se infrastruktuur en hulpmiddels is ook nie so vrot as wat soms gedink of aangegee word nie. Daar is ‘n groot vloot goeie voertuie (nie altyd genoeg nie, maar hoeveel sal genoeg nou eintlik wees?), daar is polisiekantore wat goeie kantoorruimte bied, ensovoorts. Waarvan daar egter nie genoeg is nie, is ondersteuning aan hom, vanuit die geledere van Jan en alleman. Sonder die insette, hulp en inligtingstroom van die gemeenskap kan die Polisie nie die geveg teen misdaad wen nie. Die Polisiehoof is nie ‘n vreemde in die omgewing nie. Hy was voorheen in ‘n laer rang hier gestasioneer, is bevorder in rang en na ‘n baie groter polisiekantoor en nou is hy terug as bevelvoerder van die groot distrik (“cluster”). Hy het vir hom ‘n naam verwerf as ‘n man wat sy taak en verantwoordelikheid met groot erns uitoefen. Hy duld nie wetsoortreding nie, hy is giftig teen misdaad, hy kies reg en orde en huiwer nie om op te tree as optrede nodig is nie. Ons pleit by die breë gemeenskap om hom daadwerklik te ondersteun.
Hoe het jy gelewe?
Die spuitfontein voor die GTM se hoofgebou in Agathastraat, Tzaneen, word uiteindelik herstel en behoort weer eersdaags ‘n bydrae tot die estetika by te dra. Mag daar dan ook weer iets aan die tuin, grasperke en broodbome gedoen word, sodat dit weer ‘n lushof in die middedorp kan wees — soos dit hoort. Mnre Masilo Modiba en Thomas Ramokano van Cemcreet doen die werk en hulle is vol vertroue dat die fontein teen die einde van die maand weer in al sy glorie herstel sal wees. ‘Be warned: we will arrest and prosecute you!’ The SA Police Service will not allow service delivery protests that end up in damage (often Shingange at a well-attended public meeting in Tzaneen on Wednesday. Fortunately the driver managed to disengage the horse, but the situation still represented a crime. I want to warn members of the community that this type of service delivery protest which has become high fashion, is a crime and those taking part in it will be arrested and prosecuted. It is high time that the community come up with a better way of raising their concerns
than the blockading of national roads, the destruction of road signs and damaging the tarmac by burning tyres. Surely there is a better way of engagement than that. crime prevention. This addresses the enhancement of service delivery through: Accessibility Rapid police response, and Support by the partnerships. The strategy is also about the involvement of all policing units so as to realise the multi-disciplinary approach. The strategy revolves around the optimal use of force multipliers, to maximise the investigation of crime and conviction of criminals. As partners we must join hands and establish safety networks, community education and awareness in crime prevention initiatives. The strategy will not be complete if we don’t involve governmental as well as external role players. All in all the strategy is about the strengthening of the principle of sector policing, embracing CPF’s, community crime prevention initiatives in the form of patrollers, street committees and crime watch with traditional
leadership also playing a vital role. The operational approach rests on intelligence that triggers both proactive and reactive initiatives, leading to shared responsibility and accountability. Let me cite a practical example: information was received by the cluster that the community of a certain village wants to use home lights to destroy the erected electricity poles, because there is no progress. The cluster engaged the relevant stake holders of the municipality that culminated in a constructive meeting with the affected members of the community in that village. As I speak, the contractor is busy finalising the work and no destruction of erected poles was carried out and as such a service delivery protest for electricity was averted. The above cited example relates to intelligence and a proactive approach as reflected in the rural safety strategy in addressing community concerns. Today is the official launch of the rural safety strategy for the cluster and it must be followed by the launch of the same at all different cluster stations. I’m therefore making a call to all the station commanders within the cluster to rope in all the stake holders and make sure that the strategy is launched soon — taking into account the implementation and monitoring checklist, so as to ensure true and real rural safety. I therefore declare that the Tzaneen cluster rural safety strategy is now launched.

She was blessed with five children, four boys and one girl. “She worked at Medingen Clinic without any assistance from 1951 until her retirement in 1979. Die uitslae van vroeër in die jaar se Bio-SDcience natuurwetenskap olimpiade is uiteindelik bekend gemaak en 27 gr8- en -9-leerlinge van die Hoërskool Ben Vorster wat aan die olimpiade deelgeneem het, het goed gepresteer. Skole van regoor die land het deelgeneem. Die nasionale gemiddeld was 60,49% en die Vossies se gemiddeld was 67,26%. Die Vossies het negentien erkennings verwerf: vier goud, elf silwer en vier brons.
Die toptien skole word bereken na aanleiding van die resultate van die toptien kandidate per skool. Die amptelike uitslae is: The Settlers High School 82%, Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen 81,60%, Parel Valley High School 80%, Wynberg Boys’ High 80%, Crawford College 78%, Curro Heuwelkruin 77,60%, Ben Vorster 77,60%, Hartebeespoort 77,60%, Pinelands High 77,20%, Bethlehem Voortrekker Hoër 77% en Sasolburg 77%.

After an early 03:15 start the young high spirited group of ten Merensky archers braved the journey to a freezing cold Kempton Park to courageously compete in the challenging Sedibeng Provincial Indoor Archery championships. The cold weather definitely did not deter these keen and enthusiastic athletes from achieving their goal. Beneche Jackson, Ryan Jackson, Heinrich Pieterse, Hugo Badenhorst and Janco Theron all achieved their personal best scores this season. Per-
severance and dedication is truly the key to ultimate success. The team brought home five medals: gold for Beneche Jackson in the Youth Female Class and Janco Theron in Youth Male Class, silver for Ryan Jackson in the Junior Male Class and bronze for Lin-Marie Theron in Junior Female and Hugo Badenhorst in Junior Male Class. High five to the Theron siblings, Janco with his national qualifying score and Lin-Marie with a provincial qualifying score.

Merensky Hoërskool het verlede Vrydag ‘n suksesvolle “beterbal” gholfdag by die Tzaneen Buiteklub aangebied. Spelers op ‘n vol veld het om 10:00 met die knal van ‘n geweerskoot afgeslaan. Die einde van die winter het sy tol geëis, met balle wat soms vanweë die skoonveld se skrapse grasbedekking buite die speelveld tot ruste gekom het. Die setperke was in goeie toestand, die weer aangenaam, die spelers vol adrenalien en die borge goed verteenwoordig. Met goeie spel het die wenspan, Chris van Eck en Carel Minnaar, met ‘n telling van 57 geseëvier. Met dié telling het hulle ‘n vakansie in Mosambiek gewen. In die tweede plek was Gideon Venter en Louis van Rooyen met 53 punte. Nico en Christo Pretorius het in die derde plek met 49 punte geëindig. Merensky het ook ‘n R100 000-wortel voor die spelers se neuse gehou. Die groot bedrag kon gewen word met ‘n volmaakte kolhou op die agtiende putjie. Ongelukkig (vir die spelers, gelukkig vir die skool) het geen speler die volmaakte geluksoot behaal nie. Die dag is met ‘n lam-op-die-spit Plasie-kuier afgesluit.

Vossies speel weer soos van ouds — Drie uit vier spanne deur na halfeindstryd
Matimu Mangangi van Ben Vorster se eerste span druk een van sy span se drieë in die afgelope Saterdag se kwarteindstryd teen die Hoërskool Randburg.
Die senior spanne van die Hoërskool Ben Vorster het Saterdag op hul tuisveld ‘n vroeër gevreesde insinking gesystap en drie van die vier spanne wat in die kwarteindronde gespeel het, het hul wedstryde gewen en na die Beeld Trofee se halfeindstryde deurgedring. Die o.14A’s het die oggend se lekker vol rugbyprogram afgeskop, toe hulle die Hoërskool Randburg se beste o.14’s aangedurf het. Die jong Vossies het heel oortuigend met 31-22 gewen. Daarna het die o.15A’s ‘n moeilike span van die Helpmekaar Kollege aangedurf, heel goed gespeel, maar uiteindelik Jacques Venter van Ben Vorster probeer om ‘n teenstander in die wedstryd teen Randburg te ontduik. was die besoekers te sterk vir die rooies en Helpmekaar het met 21-16 gewen. se raad en motivering gedurende rustyd het goed Verlede jaar het die Vossies en Frikkie Meyer se gewerk en in die tweede helfte het die Vossie-enjin o.15A’s in die eindstryd gespeel, maar vanjaar is al- nie verder gestotter nie. Merensky tennis takes Sun City by storm… Merensky High School’s first
boys and girls tennis teams once again attended the Sun City schools tournament. The girls showed their mettle against Ben Vorster, Kathu, EG Jansen, Edenvale and Wesvalia. They won their matches against EG Jansen and Edenvale, ending fourth overall. The boys played games against EG Jansen, Kathu, Wesvalia, Edenvale, Ben Vorster, Piet Potgie-
ter and Northcliff, winning their match against Ben Vorster, to end the tournament in seventh place. Both teams gained valuable experience which they will surely put to use in their upcoming games. Stanford Lake College’s first boys hockey team played in the Noordvaal Hockey Festival. They were grouped with Noordheuwel and Ermelo. They had a cracking game against Noordheuwel losing 4- 5 but it proved to be one of the games of the festival. Mfumo Mongwe scored a hat trick. SLC drew their game against Ermelo which qualified them to play in the top eight. The boys played good hockey throughout the tournament and it was a great achievement for them being a young team to end up in the top eight. They lost to Uplands 3-4 in another hard fought game. Terwyl die nasie nou verlede Saterdag in rou gedompel is daar op Kingspark, moet Oubal bieg dat hy die hele week met ‘n lied in sy hart rondgeloop het; maar dan is Oubal nou mos eenmaal maar ‘n sentimentele romantikus! ‘Tja, toe die oorlewende grysaards van die eerste Argentynse toer daar op die kantlyn staan tydens die sing van die volksliedere, geklee in swart pakke, wit hemde en ligblou dasse, was Oubal skielik terug op Ellispark op 19 Junie 1965. Oubal was daai dag ‘n getuie van die Poemas se geskiedkundige oorwinning oor die Junior Springbokke en hul feesvierings het geen perke geken nie. Min het Oubal geweet dat die geskiedenis hom sou herhaal! Amptelik word ons vertel dat Saterdag die Bokke se eerste nederlaag teen Argentinië was, maar Oubal wis van beter. In 1982 het hulle, met Hugo Porta in ‘n meesterlike eenmanvertoning, die Bokke in Bloemfontein 21-12 geklop, nadat hulle die vorige week ‘n
drieë behaal (vergeet maar eers dat twee daarvan uiters bedenklik was) — die eerste driekuns ooit teen die Bokke. Wat Imhoff se prestasie nog meer kleur gee, is dat sy pa, José Luis, een van daai ’65-veterane in die pawiljoen was. Oubal is te veel van ‘n rakbieman dat die (amperse) nietigheid van ‘n Boknederlaag die oorhand kry oor só ‘n stuk rakbie folklore, so hoekom sal hy nou nie saam met die Argentyne verheug wees nie? Ons is boonop hul rolmodelle, en daar behoort geen groter kompliment vir ‘n leermeester te wees as wanneer sy leerling hom troef nie. Dáárvoor moet Oubal egter weer teruggaan na die 60’s van die vorige eeu, toe die destydse SA Rugbyraad die befaamde afrigter Izak van Heerden Argentinië toe gestuur het, om hulle rakbie te gaan help verbeter. Dít was die aanloop tot hul oorwinning oor die Junior Bokke in 1965.
Don’t Cry for Me... nederlaag van 50-18 teen Wynand Claassen se Bokke op die lyf geloop het. Toegegee, hulle het onder die vaandel van die Suid-Amerikaanse Jaguars gespeel, maar die span was net in naam nie die Poemas nie. Oubal dink daai 1982-toets is amper soos die Slag van Alesië in die Asterix-strokies — almal weet daarvan, maar niemand kan dit onthou nie. Porta-hulle het toe net so uitbundig feesgevier as hul 1965-eweknieë. ‘Tja, en daar staan die 2015-weergawe van die Poemas toe Saterdag op Kingspark en vier fees saam met die veterane van 1965. Vir die Poemas het Juan Imhoff ‘n driekuns aan
‘n Ander stuk geskiedenis vanuit daai ’65toer is die naam “Poemas” wat ook sy oorsprong daar gehad het. Enige iemand met ‘n basiese kennis van groot katte sal weet dat die Argentynse rakbie-embleem eintlik ‘n jaguar is, maar dit het nie ‘n Suid-Afrikaanse joernalis in 1965 verhoed om na hulle as die Poemas te verwys nie. Ons het hulle leer rakbie speel en ons het vir hulle ‘n naam gegee!
