It is now a matter of gloves off... Hawkers that are invading main roads, like the R71, have to be stopped. It has become a traffic hazard in some areas around Tzaneen as well as between Letsitele and Rubbervale and road safety is being compromised rather seriously. The GTM’s traffic chief says it is the Limpopo traffic police’s responsibility, but they deny that and say the SA Police should act. The Department of Transport (Limpopo) say they will investigate, but that is cheap talk. The Bulletin tried that route many a time in the last couple of years. We were promised that the situation would be investigated, but nothing ever happened. RAL (Road Agency Limpopo) has been experienced as
even worse and in 2014 we could not locate a single person in that organisation to even answer a telephone! So now a group of farmers have instructed Mr Aldo Rech (left) of the law firm Joubert & May to approach the Supreme Court — in order to establish who exactly should be held responsible and what to do to control the growth in illegal hawker numbers on the roads. One of the frustrations that farmers have to entertain, is the alarming increase in the theft of fruit (and vegetables in certain areas). It is said that as the numbers of hawkers increase, the volumes of fruit disappearing from orchards grow. Rech couldn’t confirm when the court will be approached,
since a lot of research is still being done and only then the compilation of the legal documents needed for such an action can follow. It could take a couple of months and then a date has to be booked, which also take months with court rolls being over full.

Mr Selemo Monakedi took over from Mr Pierre van den Heever, who acted as MM for the last few months. We suggested to Monakedi that he grants us an interview in two weeks time, so as to allow him to settle in a bit before we interview him on his vision for the GTM over the next two years (the duration of his contract). He accepted our request and we will thus talk to him towards the middle of the month and then report back to our readers on the road forward for and with him.

Water Affairs still numb on wetland The future of the wetland at the western entrance to Tzaneen is in the hands of the department of water affairs and sanitation, but details on the rehabilitation plan for the wetland could not be obtained from the authorities involved. It is allegedly been investigated and handled by the Blue Scorpions of the department, after Adv Phillip Monyepao and his team of the department of environmental affairs in Polokwane had to withdraw their investigations on the matter as they had
no further mandate on the case. The Bulletin approached the national spokesperson of water affairs regarding wetlands, Mr Nigel Adams, to get clarity on the development, but despite a promise to supply more information on the project yesterday morning he failed to respond before our deadline. We also left an urgent message for Ms Martha Komape of the Blue Scorpions for comment, but without success. In the meantime contractors are removing the
mountain of soil next to the wetland behind the Sasol R71 filling station and the entrance to Danie Joubert Street. We were told that land owners received a directive from water affairs and sanitation to restore the wetland to its original state, but this could not be confirmed by the department due to a lack of communication. It is anticipated that the authorities involved will react with proper answers on the development of the wetland soon.

Our Opinion 04 September 2015
Welcome Mr MM We gladly extend a warm welcome to the Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s new Municipal Manager, who moved into the hot chair on Tuesday. We trust that he will execute his duties in a devoted manner, in a loyal way, honestly, in accordance with the Constitution of our Country and always in the best interest of the residents of this most beautiful part of our beloved country. The challenges that he will have to face and the problems that he will have to address and solve are not to be underestimated. Equally: he will make a huge mistake if he tries to address the problems thinking that he only has to please those who deployed him — the political masters who often couldn’t care about the populace. His CV tells a story of success and we would thus expect from him to manage the GTM in a balanced way; to tackle service delivery as a priority, without neglecting other priorities that also need urgent attention. We have entered municipal election time and all of a sudden potholes in streets are being filled with tar and not sand, lines are painted, the fountain is being fixed, there’s a new multi-million swimming bath etcetera. A lot more is needed though. Therefore we wish the new MM all the best, and pledge our support for every transparent and honest endeavour to improve a rather desperate municipal area and populace.

Soos verlede jaar, is ‘n swart mamba ook weer in die omgewing van Peacestraat opgemerk, maar dit het vinnig gevlug toe iemand dit van kant wou maak. Sorgwekkend is die Indiese kobra (uiters giftig) wat deur ‘n werknemer van mnr Jean le Grange by ‘n huis in Arborpark betrap en van kant gemaak is. Hoe die slang in Suid Afrika beland het, kan mens net raai.

The Message Rev Ron Reiners Anglican Church It is in In a couple of days time the Emmaus walk for men and m e e t i n g God at difwomen takes place. This is a Christian walk which is not so much a physical one as a spiritual one. Each year these walks are held around the world at various venues and we hear in Tzaneen are affiliated to the Lourie Emmaus group which is situated in Nelspruit. Two walks take place, one for men and one for women, usually in September each year. It is an Interdenominational and those who attend them are called “Pilgrims” The aim of these walks are to grow these “Pilgrims” to become active members in their own denominations. A series of lectures are held and participation of the candidates is encouraged. I personally have attended these walks and have witnessed the growth of other Christians in their walk with God, often with amazing changes coming about in the way they worship and work for their different churches. There is also a walk for children called the “Crystallise Flight” which also builds these children to become active in their churches.

ferent levels in our lives that we grow and this is just one method to achieve this. As we grow as Christians we develop a love for others that encourages all to follow Christ more each day. Often we walk about with the idea that only one denomination is the only one to follow. But each denomination, if led by the Holy Spirit forms the body of Christ and most importantly it is in the inter-action with other Christians that grows our faith. It is often said that like-minded people group together and Christians of all races are bound by one criteria and that is to be servants of Christ. We need Christ in our lives more and more as the world changes every day and if we have the support of others our lives become easier. We have the assurance that others are praying for us in our time of need. I would like to encourage all to find out more about their faith by investigating all possibilities of growing their faith. My South Africa is the working-class man who called from the airport to return my wallet without a cent missing. It is the white woman who put all three of her domestic worker’s children through the same school that her own child attended. It is the politician in one of our rural provinces, Mpumalanga, who returned his salary to the government as a statement that standing with the poor had to be more than just a few words. It is the teacher who worked after school hours every day during the public sector strike to ensure her children did not miss out on learning. My South Africa is the first-year university student in Bloemfontein who took all the gifts she received for her birthday and donated them — with the permission of the givers — to a home for children in an Aids village. It is the people hurt by racist acts who find it in their hearts to publicly forgive the perpetrators. It is the group of farmers in Paarl who started a top school for the children of farm workers to ensure they got the best education possible while their parents toiled in the vineyards. It is the farmer’s wife in Viljoenskroon who created an education and training centre for the wives of farm labourers so that they could gain the advanced skills required to operate accredited early-learning centers for their own and other children. My South Africa is that little white boy
at a decent school in the Eastern Cape who decided to teach the black boys in the community to play cricket, and to fit them all out with the togs required to play the gentleman’s game. It is the two black street children in Durban, caught on camera, who put their spare change in the condensed milk tin of a white beggar. It is the Johannesburg pastor who opened up his church as a place of shelter for illegal immigrants. It is the Afrikaner woman from Boksburg who nailed the white guy who shot and killed one of South Africa’s greatest freedom fighters outside his home. My South Africa is the man who went to prison for 27 years and came out embracing his captors, thereby releasing them from their impending misery. It is the activist priest who dived into a crowd of angry people to rescue a woman from a sure necklacing. It is the former police chief who fell to his knees to wash the feet of Mamelodi women whose sons disappeared on his watch; it is the women who forgave him in his act of contrition. It is the Cape Town university psychologist who interviewed the ‘Prime Evil’ in Pretoria Centre and came away with emotional attachment, even empathy, for the human being who did such terrible things under apartheid. My South Africa is the quiet, dignified, determined township mother from Langa who straightened her back during the
years of oppression and decided that her struggle was to raise decent children, insist that they learn, and ensure that they not succumb to bitterness or defeat in the face of overwhelming odds. It is the two young girls who walked 20 km to school every day, even through their matric years, and passed well enough to be accepted into university studies. It is the student who takes on three jobs, during the evenings and on weekends, to find ways of paying for his university studies. My South Africa is the teenager in a wheelchair who works in townships serving the poor. It is the pastor of a Kenilworth church whose parishioners were slaughtered, who visits the killers and asks them for forgiveness because he was a beneficiary of apartheid. It is the politician who resigns on conscientious grounds, giving up status and salary because of an objection in principle to a social policy of her political party. It is the young lawman who decides to dedicate his life to representing those who cannot afford to pay for legal services. My South Africa is not the angry, corrupt, violent country those deeds fill the front pages of newspapers and the lead-in items on the seven-o’-clock news. It is the South Africa often unseen, yet powered by the remarkable lives of ordinary people. It is the citizens who keep the country together through millions of acts of daily kindness.

Een vir een, voetjie vir voetjie... Hul eerste poging die afgelope Saterdag was sommer ‘n lekker sukses. Die voete het gekom en

Die departement van omgewingsake het aangebied om boere met onkruiddoders soos RoundUp te help, maar volgens AgriLetaba se bestuur het hulle nog niks ontvang nie. Die voorsitter van AgriLetaba, mnr Pieter Vorster, sê verskeie samesprekings is met die departement gevoer, maar dit het sover net by beloftes gebly. Die hiasinte is skadelik vir toerusting soos pompe en waterpype, terwyl dit ook in opgaardamme begin groei. Baie reën en ‘n sterk vloed is al wat die rivier weer skoon kan kry, sê Vorster.
Ms Dudu Nhlungwna of Khujwana, a mother of five children, was the winner of R60 000 in a country wide promotional prize giving campaign by the Net 1 group in Tzaneen. The company’s EasyPay Everywhere banking account system was launched two months ago and three branches were winners, of which Tzaneen was one. With Ms Nhlungwna is Ms Janie Marx of Net 1 Technical Solutions in Polokwane, who presented the winning cheque. Nhlungwna said the children will be spoilt a bit, but the rest will go into her savings account.
Massive pothole crisis Motorists are complaining about their vehicles being exposed to horrifying potholes on the R36 and wheels and tyres are damaged and in most cases destroyed. The Deerpark/Tarentaal road, Georges Valley and at the intersection of the R36 and the D673 (Letaba Crossing to Nkowankowa and Tarentaalrand) have all fallen into a state of disrepair; like an accident waiting to happen. The very bad state of these roads shows that the provincial government is not paying attention to their assets or trying to preserve what ought to be preserved. Apart from the damage to vehicles these roads are a serious threat to road safety. Numerous accidents have occurred already been reported on these roads. In a single accident sixty people were injured and two died. Taxis often drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid the big potholes, causing another danger to other motorists.
Complaints lodged by motorists led to the D673 road being attended to by the Department of Roads and Transport. However, the road has deteriorated drastically and is even in worse condition that it was before. Mr Rojers Moagi, a mechanic at Kwik-Fit safety centre workshop in Tzaneen, said: “We see a wide variety of things that need to be repaired. Sometimes the shocks go, or the suspension and even the wheel alignment and mags are damaged.” “If a person drives a front-wheel drive vehicle and goes very fast over a pothole he might even damage the gearbox,” he said. Villa Royale is launched
Prestige Cluster Housing Project In A Prestige Security Estate A prestige cluster housing development in the prestige Golden Acres Security Estate on the bank of the Tzaneen Dam by one of Tzaneen’s biggest and tried and tested developers, has been launched this week. Only three estate agents have been appointed by well-known developers Pretorius Broers Konstruksie: Aïda, Pam Golding and Tzaneen Properties and they will start the marketing campaign this weekend. Well-designed architect units will be available in two bedroom and three bedroom units with luxury finish of a high standard. Units
will have patios and gardens and indigenous trees will be planted over a big area. In fact, the developer has already dropped more than fourty biggish trees on the site (Witstinkhout, Geelhout, etcetera), after some rubber trees, bamboo and other exotic trees had to be removed. Some of the fully grown Bluegums have been dug out with great care to preserve their roots, and these will be re-planted and should regain their magnitude in a relatively short time. It has been claimed that a small wetland had to make way for the development. A full
Environmental Impact Study that was done for Golden Acres in totality never showed anything like that and the developer went even further. Pretorius Broers commissioned a specialist (fully registered) to also do a Geotech study and the Geotech Report shows that the land is stable and no sign of a wetland shows up anywhere. “We employed an engineer to also advise us before we even started the Geotech study, since it would be foolish to build houses on a wetland. Buildings will not last (walls will crack) and there is no way that we would

have gone ahead had there been a wetland,” said Mr Dewald Pretorius. “Our name and reputation, not only in Tzaneen and Limpopo but indeed also in Gauteng is worth more than one project. This is not even a big project, not comparable to what we do in Gauteng and we do not start a project if everything is not in place and approved by every single authority who’s approval is required by law.” The new project will be done in a number of phases. Eight units will be built for the first phase.

Albei skuts het in die eindronde geskiet en uitstekend gevaar. Die afgelope vier jaar het die Vossies reeds vier skuts vir die SA span opgelewer. Hier is Renaldo en Thinus duidelik in hul skik met hul prestasies.
“Black Caps” oorrompel Louis Trichardt
Die Hoërskool Ben Vorster se eerste krieketspan het in hul tweede ligawedstryd ‘n moedige Hoërskool Louis Trichardt met 7 paaltjies oorrompel. Die Trichies het die loot gewen en besluit om eerste te kolf. Hulle kon egter slegs 87 lopies op die bord kry, voor al hul kolwers binne ‘n bestek van 22 boulbeurte terug was in die pawiljoen. Philip Bester en kaptein Don Radebe het elkeen 3 paaltjies laat kantel en Jean Pierre Prinsloo en Ruvan Kruger 2 elk. Ben Vorster het die telling reeds in die 17de beurt verbygegaan met slegs 3 paaltjies plat. Philip Bester het 23 nun aangeteken en Regardt Heiberg 22.
Ben Vorster se 2de krieketspan het op hul beurt die Hoërskool Merensky in ‘n ligawedstryd met 6 paaltjies gewen. Merensky het die loot gewen en besluit om eerste te kolf. Hulle is vir 98 lopies in die 24ste boulbeurt uitgeboul. Tristan du Preez, Gustav Prinsloo, Hayden Butler en James Modiba van die Vossies het elk 2 paaltjies geneem. Die Vossies het die benodigde lopies in 24 beurte aangeteken. Stefan Engelbrecht het sy veelsydigheid op sportgebied gewys, deur 23 lopies aan te teken. Kaptein Jacques Kriel, met 21 lopies nun en Gustav Prinsloo (12 nun) het die Vossies oor die wenstreep getrek.

Agter staan Tristan du Preez, Gustav Prinsloo, Hayden Butler, Frans Pohl, Danie Heckroodt, Jacques Kriel en James Modibaen. Voor is Eduan Smit, Rikus Jacobs, Kobus J van Rensburg en Stefan Engelbrecht.

Merensky se landloopatlete het teen demy by Ben Vorster kragte gemeet PHS, Louis Trichardt, Ben Vorster, tydens die jaarlikse Noordelike LimHTS Tom Naudé en Northern Aca- popo se skole-landloopbyeenkoms. Merensky se Christelle Coetzer, Anri Mc Lean en Sancha van Niekerk het vir die eerste drie plekke by die junior meisies (o.15) gesorg. Delux Jooste het goud ingepalm in die senior seuns (o.19) en Janco Coetzee het
brons medalje gekry in die junior seuns-wedloop. Die Plasies se junior seuns-, senior seuns- en senior meisiespanne het algeheel derde geëindig, terwyl die junior meisies met ‘n algehele eerste plek kon spog. Die Plasies pronk ook met Christelle wat aangewys is as die beste meisiesatleet en Delux wat gekroon is as die beste seunsatleet van die dag.
Nauta van der Gryp het die naweek aan die Akkedis Fietsrybyeekoms in Louis Trichardt deelgeneem en die 10 km-ren gewen. Hy spog met reg met sy mooi medalje!
Ek bekruip hulle eers, dan gaan ek hulle omsingel en dan slaan ek toe met ‘n doel! Of wat sou Lia Revelas, een van die Laerskool Tzaneen se topmeisie-hokkiespelers, vir haarself gesê het? Die skool se hokkiespanne presteer vanjaar besonder goed. Hou hulle gerus maar dop!
Luan Pohl en Josua Retief het die naweek deelgeneem aan die Limpopo Gimnastiekkompetisie. Luan het ‘n goue medalje gewen en Limpopo-kleure ontvang, en Josua het ‘n silwer medalje verwerf.
Renzo du Plessis en Thabang Sejake van die Laerskool Tzaneen is vir Limpopo se Sewesrugbyspan gekies. Hulle sal in Oktober aan ‘n 7’s toernooi deelneem.

Oubal het al voorheen sy ingenomendheid met die konsep van Barbarian-rakbie uitgespreek. ‘n Saamgeflansde span vanoor die hele wêreld — bestaande uit spelers wat normaalweg net teen mekaar speel — wat vir ’n week bymekaarkom vir ‘n klompie sosiale geleenthede en dan op die Saterdag ons met sprankelrakbie vermaak. Meestal is ‘n goeie gros van die spelers ook nog in die skemering van hul loopbane en daar is die unieke reël dat minstens een speler nog nooit sy land verteenwoordig het nie. ‘Tja, Oubal kon nie ophou glimlag toe die SA Barbarianspan wat ons by die Wêreldbeker moet gaan verteenwoordig Vrydagaand met fanfare aangekondig is nie. Die groep is saamgestel uit spelers vanuit Ierland, Engeland, Frankryk, Japan en natuurlik ‘n paar van SA. Verskeie spelers is verby die middernag van hul loopbane en met Rudy Paige hou ons by die reël van ‘n speler wat nog nie vir sy land uitgedraf het nie! Van Paige gepraat, dis die speler wat weereens die eienaardigheid van wat SA is die voorafgaande week geopenbaar het. Die lin-
het internasionale ervaring (wat goeie en slegte herinneringe by Oubal wek), het ook nie onlangs kans gekry nie, maar doen die afgelope paar seisoene hoofsaaklik bankdiens by Stade Français. Ses van die een en ‘n halfdosyn van die ander. Hoe dit ook al sy, Heyneke kan nie wen teen die politici nie, en selfs Peter de Villiers het op sy seepkis geklim. Oubal merk egter dat Snorre darem bedaar het sedert die aankondiging van die span. Snorre is natuurlik ten volle gekwalifiseer om ‘n mening uit te spreek — sy span kon immers die AB’s in NZ klop én ‘n Drienasies-titel wen. Dis iets waaroor Heyneke nog net droom, of ons dit wil weet of nie. ‘Tja, kritici van Snorre is vinnig om daarop te wys dat wat hy vermag het, hy hoofsaaklik met Jake White se 2007-span gedoen het. ‘n Ontleding van die spelers wat hy gebruik het, skilder egter ‘n ander prentjie. Die SA Barbarians ker- en regterkante van die politieke spektrum het ewe hard Heyneke se kop geëis oor die span wat nog aangekondig moes word, om verskillende, maar ooreenstemmende opponerende redes. Die regses meen Paige is ten koste van Cobus Reinach ingesluit op grond van velkleur; die linkses glo Elton Jantjies is weggelaat ten gunste van Morné Steyn op grond van velkleur. Oubal dink albei groeperings is reg en verkeerd. Paige het na Oubal se onbeskeie opinie ‘n baie beter spelpeil as Reinach gehandhaaf tydens die S15, maar laasgeneomde het ervaring op internasionale vlak. Jantjies was kookwater in die S15, maar het soos Paige ook nie kans gekry op hoër vlak nie. Steyn
‘n bykomstige 7 van Snorre se 2011-groep. Nie ‘n wesentlike verskil as ’n mens die syfers bymekaar gooi nie. Dit dien ook vermeld te word dat Heyneke tot dusver in sy termyn gevoetjie-voetjie het met ‘n bykomstige 7 van White se span asook 3 van Snorre s’n, so wie ploeg nou eintlik met wie se kalwers? ‘Tja, die vraag is nou hoe Heyneke se Barbarians in die WB gaan vaar?
