Griffiths Mxenge (27 February 1935 – 19 November 1981) was a SA anti-apartheid activist. Trained as a lawyer, he was assassinated by the security police in 1981, led by Dirk Coetzee in Umlazi township south of Durban. He was married to Victoria Mxenge, who was later also assassinated. He was a member of the ANC. He was sent to Robben Island in 1966 because of his political activities.

The Department of Water Affairs and Sanitation (DWS) is fully aware of the activities around the wetland at the western entrance to Tzaneen, where a mountain of soil next to the Sasol R71 filling station is currently being removed. A directive was sent to the contractor and stakeholders in the vicinity to start with the rehabilitation of the wetland before any other development in the area will even be considered. Mr Sputnik Ratau, media spokesperson in the office of the deputy director general of the DWS, confirmed this week that its Limpopo office is giving urgent attention to the matter. A team of inspectors was to be sent to the site this week to ensure that the DWS message is clearly understood. “If we are not satisfied with the situation, the matter will be taken up with other au-

Landbou verskerp sy veiligheidsplan

Die lid belas met veiligheid, mnr Corrie Large, sê vyf plaasaanvalle binne tien dae was “skokkend”, nadat die polisie se plan met landelike veiligheid skaars drie weke gelede met groot geesdrif aangekondig is. Boereverenigings van Tzaneen en Letsitele moet saamstaan en op sosiale media met mekaar skakel, om groter paraatheid aan te wakker. Die polisie kan nie wetstoepassing sonder die hulp van die landbougemeenskap behoorlik uitvoer nie. Large het ook daarop gewys dat statistiek van sogenaamde polisiesuksesse weekliks in die nuus verskyn, maar misdaadsyfers in Letsitele word verswyg. Ander sake wat by AgriLetaba se vergadering aandag geniet het, is die beperking van 35% op besproeiingswater uit die Tzaneen-dam, wat deur die departement van waterwese en sanitasie ingestel is. Die beperking op huishoudelike gebruik is 10%. Vorster het gesê boere het reeds hul verbruik vrywillig tot 50% verlaag. Nou moet daar gesorg word dat die 10% wel in munisipale gebiede toegepas word. Mnr Willem van Jaarsveld, die uitvoerende hoof van AgriLimpopo, het oor grondhervorming gesê ‘n dringende vergadering is by die grondeisekommissaris in Polokwane aangevra, om die stand van eise in Limpopo te bespreek. Hy het verwys na die geval in KwaZulu/Natal, waar ‘n projek van die suikermagnaat Charl Senekal weens ‘n skielike grondeis deur die mat geval het. “Dis buite ons gebied, maar ons kan nie hier sit en dink dit sal nie ook met ons boere gebeur nie.”

Die vleiland-raaisel Die kosbare vleiland wat ‘n ontvlugtingsjuweel in Tzaneen se opelugteaer kon gewees het, word of is nie nou vernietig nie. Dit kom al van lank voor gister en eergister en is die tragiese resultaat van ‘n kortsigtige stadsraad wat geen visie het nie, geen politieke wil het nie en wat tevrede is dat Gods water oor Gods akker loop in ‘n tuindorp wat elke jaar verderverwaarloos. Dit is die ondeursigtigheid wat die hele omstandigheid omhul, wat natuurlik verder pla (of die inwoners van Tzaneen wat verantwoordelik oor die bewaring van die natuur behoort te wees, behoort te pla). Ondeursigtig is ‘n eufemisme vir hoe die verloop van die drama ontvou het. Geheimsinnig sal die beter woord wees. By die GTM klink dit of niemand regtig weet en/of verstaan wat gebeur, wat behoort te gebeur en wat nie behoort te gebeur nie. By Omgewingsbewaring en Waterwese stry die twee departemente klaarblyklik oor wie gesag het om wat te doen en te sê. Dit is skerpioene (sonder angels?), inspekteurs, ondersoekers, waarnemers en nugter weet wie en wat alles wat kamtig ondersoek instel. Dié een spog met ‘n permit en die volgende een spog met spesiale toestemming — maar niemand tree na vore met selfs net ‘n ﬂentertjie papier om die aansprake te bevestig nie. In die uitstekende rolprent The Count of Monte Cristo na die boek van Alexander Dumas met dieselfde naam, word Edmond Dantes, die hoofkarakter, onskuldig in die tronk Chateau D’if gestop — deur die toedoen van sy beste vriend Danglars. Na ses jaar in die tronk is hy op die punt om moed te verloor en selfmoord te pleeg. Hy het sy geloof in God verloor. Dan ontmoet hy die “mal priester” Abbé Faria wat al ‘n leeftyd in die tronk is en probeer om te ontsnap deur ‘n tonnel te grawe, wat hy gedink het na vryheid is. Hy misgis homself egter en grawe binne in Edmond Dantes se sel in. Ons almal gaan dikwels deur hierdie Edmond Dantesoomblikke in ons lewens. Waar dit voel of God jou heeltemal weggegooi het, jou vergeet het en jy wonder of God ooit weet dat jy bestaan? Waar is God? As jy al ooit in jou lewe so gevoel het en miskien nou so voel as gevolg van diepe hartseer, ﬁnansiële teëspoed, siekte, eensaamheid of verwerping, hou dan aan die woorde van Jesus self vas, wat Johannes neergeskryf het. Johannes 6:37 : “Elkeen wat die Vader vir My gee, sal na My toe kom; en Ek sal hulle wat na My toe kom, nooit verwerp nie!”

Briewe sit deur net gebruik te maak van die tegnologie. Ek het geleer om nie op ander mense staat te maak om probleme aan te spreek nie. Ek doen dit self. die land ontvang. Dieselfde het gebeur met ‘n brief oor werknemers wat ondernemings bankrot steel. Die reaksie was oorweldigend. Kan u sien wat rusbanksitters kan uitrig wanneer hulle die dag genoeg gehad het? Elke druppel kan uiteindelik die wereld se siening van ‘n saak beïnvloed. Wat sal mens dit noem? Passiewe weerstand? Al wat ons nodig het, is dat meer rusbanksitters besef dat hulle nie tot stemdag hoef te wag om veranderings te probeer bewerkstellig nie. Die wêreld is hul gehoor en die kanse dat hulle “gegaslight”/gemanupileer word deur mense wat hul belange op die hart dra, word uitgeskakel. Wie weet of daar nie reeds verbrokkeling iewers anders aan die gang is nie. Dit is inderdaad die eeu van die individu; op sy rusbank agter sy rekenaarskerm! Moenie stilswye altyd as swakheid interpreteer nie. Revolusies is al via die internet tot stand gebring.

Die nut van vleilande/moerasse Conrad Schmidt, a Grade 12 pupil from Stanford Lake College, recently participated in the Senior Afrikaans Olympiad. There were 4 431 entries. He achieved 92,3%. He was first in Limpopo and 10th overall in South Africa — an outstanding achievement. SLC has thirteen pupils amongst the top twenty performers in Limpopo.

Op dié wyse verminder dit vloedskade en erosie en kan ‘n bestendiger vloei van water vir die res van die jaar laer af verskaf word. Vleilande is ook uitstekende natuurlike ﬁltreerders van sedimente, voedingstowwe en patogeniese bakterieë. Besoedeling deur stowwe soos swaar metale en onkruiddoders word in die vleiland opgevang,

waar dit blootgestel word aan chemiese en biologiese prosesse. Dit bring mee dat water skoner uit ‘n vleiland vloei as waarmee dit ingegaan het. Die land se vleilande is van internasionale

belang omdat dit die suidelike bereikpunt is vir ‘n menigte soorte waadvoëls. Om ‘n beskadigde vleiland behoorlik te rehabiliteer, kan volgens natuurkenners baie jare en selfs eeue duur.

Driving under the influence of alcohol - A case study Mr G (insured) submitted a complaint against his insurer, for damages to his motor vehicle which arose out of a single vehicle accident. According to the insurer’s rejection letter the claim was rejected as the incident driver drove the vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol, which is specifically excluded in terms of the policy wording. In their first response the insurer advised that the accident took place at approximately 23:30 when the vehicle hit a pavement and crashed into a wall. The insured advised that he lost control of the vehicle. At claims stage the insured advised the insurer that prior to the loss he had attended a function where he had consumed one glass of wine. After leaving the function he had a nap and thereafter went out to purchase food which is when the loss happened. The evidence that the insurer relied upon on was that of the tow truck driver and the SAPS arresting officer. Both the tow truck driver and the arresting officer confirmed that they could smell alcohol on the insured’s breath and further stated that he could not talk properly and was uncooperative. The arresting officer confirmed that the driver was arrested at the accident scene and taken to the hospital for blood to be drawn for testing. In his reply to the insurer’s response, Mr G disputed the evidence of the witnesses and, specifically, their credibility. Ombudsman’s Findings: The insured was advised that one of the limitations of the function of OSTI is that it does not hold formal hearings or take witnesses’ evidence on oath as happens in a Court of law. Where there are factual disputes, testing opposing ver-

sion can only be done by oral evidence and that therefore the best forum in which this matter should be adjudicated upon was a Court of law. The insured was charged for driving under the influence of alcohol. However, the insured had advised that the criminal charge had been struck off the roll and that he had therefore been acquitted on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. Whilst no evidence was provided with regard to the outcome of the criminal matter or whether the results of the blood tests had been obtained, the insured was advised that the burden on the state in a criminal prosecution is to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused was under the influence of alcohol. The insured’s claim against the insurer was a civil claim and the insurer needed only demonstrate on a balance of probabilities that the incident driver drove the vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol. This is done by taking all the available evidence into account. The policy wording that the insurer relied on did not require blood or Breathalyzer test results in order to confirm the incident driver’s state of sobriety. Having regard to the relevant provisions of the policy wording, the time at which the accident took place, the insured’s whereabouts prior to the accident, the manner in which the accident took place and the evidence of the witnesses, the insured was advised by the Ombudsman that he was in agreement that the insurer had shown, on a balance of probabilities, that the incident driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the loss and that this was material to the loss. The insurers repudiation of the claim was therefore upheld.

Circuit Manager ‘too busy’ for school • It is sinful and a disgrace to expose pupils to such a mess Lorreto Combined School located along Agatha Road in Tzaneen has shortage of classrooms and life threatening and dilapidated pit toilets. Lorreto Combined, established in 1937, has 266 pupils enrolled for this year with an overall of nine teachers (one male and eight female). The school relies on five classrooms of which two grades attend a single class (grade 1 and 2). According to Mr Pierre Cronje of the DA, two out of the five classrooms including the toilets were built in 1993 and the extra three classrooms were built in 1997. “The school sent a letter to the Department of Education’s Tzaneen Circuit office enquiring about their challenges in the school, but there was no response” said Cronje. It is alleged that when they contacted Mrs Rebecca Thage, the circuit manager of Tzaneen to come and have a look at the situation, she was too busy to do so. These resulted in Mr. Malatji, a member of the school’s parent advisory committee contacting Pierre Cronje, the D.A.councelor for the Mopani district, who went to the school to investigate the situation on Monday whereby over sixty parents were present. But Mrs Thage denies the allegations. “I don’t remember saying to anyone I am too busy to attend to their matter, Yes I did receive lots of letters from Lorreto Combined and I have responded to all their letters” she said. But she couldn’t indicate when she communicated with the school. Moments later a man who said he was part of the Tzaneen circuit oﬃce management

claimed the matter has been taken care of as of Tuesday. “Go to the school now and check” he said. But on Monday the toilets which were used by the learners were closed because of the current state of danger and learners had to resort to going to the back of the school to relieve themselves. When Bulletin contacted the principal of Lorretto, Ms MA Mashao, she replied: “I dont talk to the media”. Parents fear for their children’s safety at the dilapidated pit toilets, if the Department of Basic Education does not act urgently to improve the infrastructure at the school. A year ago, a pupil in preschool class, was found dead in a pit toilet at the Mahlodumela Primary School outside Polokwane.

MDM water services employees go on rampage Hundreds of workers aﬃliated to the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) at Mopani District Municipality attached to the water service directorate have gone on strike since last week Tuesday. Their grievances include payments of overtime, acting allowances and intergradations into the organogram, said Mopani District Municipality’s spokesperson Neil Shikwambana. “The municipality has as of 8 September paid the outstanding payment relating to their demands and in line with the agreement with the labour union workers will

go back to work,” said Shikwambana. One of the employees attached to Thapane water plant on Tuesday denied the reports of receiving the outstanding payment from the Mopani District Municipality and said, “we are going further with the strike”. The Grade 9’s from Stanford Lake College went on their last trek of the year last week in the Soutpansberg. This expedition is a self-guided expedition where the students do their own navigation in the mountains. Navigational exercises were done in the classroom in preparation for the expedition. On the first day, all the Gr 9’s jumped on the bus to Louis Trichardt for the start of the adventure. The fun started once the bus had dropped the students off, when they had to hike approximately 10 km in their allocated groups to the base camp. The next morning they undertook an environmental project in which the groups had to build shelters to sleep in — using invader species of vegetation. Later that afternoon, Group 1 received their briefing for their selfguided mountain section. They had to plot the points on a 1:50000 topographical map and work out the routes they would have to take to get to their camp sites. They spent three days guiding them-

selves in the mountain areas of the Soutpansberg. Group 2 stayed at base camp and engaged in various activities including abseiling, Bushmen paintings and bush craft, followed by a 24 hour solo experience! After three days the groups swopped: Group 1 came in from their mountain section and started with the activities and their solo experience while Group 2 took off for their self navigation. On the final afternoon, they all gathered for a review session and after that a small prize giving where the students had to pick a boy and girl that they thought benefitted the most from this expedition. They chose Tamara Viana as the girl and Mafanedza Maiwashe as the boy. On Friday the mist and rain came down and they had to hike to where the bus was waiting to take them home. Well done to everybody for completing this challenging and fun-filled expedition!

The Gr 11’s surprised the matrics with a presentation to hand over their invitations to this year’s farewell function. And yes, the Rio Carnival is coming to town on 30 September and if the preview is anything to go by, it will be a pretty colourful and joyful occasion. Plasieland opened its gates On Friday 4 September Plasieland opened its gates to welcome one and all to experience the true heartbeat of Merensky High School. As tradition dictates, the grade 7’s and their parents came to witness, enquire and enjoy the annual open day. Not even the chilly wet weather could dampen the aspiring Plasies’ spirits. Parents and learners attended the welcoming address by the headmaster, Mr Magnus Steyn. They were then grouped to visit the expo in the hall and enjoy a tour through the school grounds. Refreshments in the newly revamped restaurant, aptly named Appetito, warded oﬀ the cold. Friend and foe could check out the wide variety of academic, sport and culture disciplines oﬀered at the school. An insightful tour of the biggest hostel in Limpopo was

also undertaken. The grade 7’s had an exciting time with Frikkie Deysel and the blue blooded Plasie Bulletjie. They were treated to a Spur burger, popcorn, crumpets, ice cream, drinks and various treats throughout their tour of the top ten places in Plasieland. Merensky High School extends an invitation to everybody who might have missed this opportunity to contact the school. Elzette is now going for gold Elzette van Dyk, a Grade 10 learner at Merensky High School, has recently achieved her silver President’s Award. She has fulﬁlled all the requirements, namely to participate for a minimum time of six months in a chosen sports activity, learning a skill, and do 48 hours community service. She also had to attend a challenging journey for three days and two nights, hiking 48km, with seven hours of planned activities per day and keep a journal of all her experiences. She has already started working towards her gold award by attending the National Presidential Project recently.

Man who shot intruder tells his story

A man lost his life during a suspected attempted robbery on a farm near Letsitele just outside Tzaneen this past weekend. The incident reportedly took place early on Sunday morning when a suspect attempted to gain access to the home of Mr Jacobus “Cobie” Kemp on his farm at Constantia. “I was awoken by the sound of loud banging at around 03:40 on Sunday morning. My ﬁve year old daughter and I were asleep in the master bedroom as my wife and son had spent the weekend in the city on business. I stood up to investigate and the banging ceased. I stood silently at the door and heard the banging a second time and that’s when I knew someone was breaking into our home.” The noises were coming from his daughter’s bedroom window. “I switched oﬀ the

mains at the db board and made my way across the living area to the safe where I retrieved my pump action shotgun.” His daughter’s room was situated between the living area and the master bedroom which meant that if the intruders made their way into the house they would be in between Kemp and his sleeping toddler. He started praying as he loaded the shotgun. “All I asked for as I said my silent prayer was that the Lord would keep my daughter from waking up and hold us both safely in His hand.” He started back toward the master bedroom and heard how the intruders kicked open the ﬂyscreen which covered the windows. They were coming into the house. “I ran towards my daughter and as I passed

her bedroom door I fired two shots into the room. There was a lot of noise and then I heard a man screaming from outside. I switched on all the lights and walked over to the window to inspect. There, in the garden I saw a man lying face down. He got to his feet and walked a few meters towards our garden gate before finally collapsing.” Kemp never saw any other suspects except for the man now lying at his gate. He checked on his daughter who, miraculously, was still fast asleep. The police were alerted and within minutes the Letsitele SAPS were on the scene where the man was declared dead. According to reports, the suspect was found to be in possession of a large knife and some tools typically used by house robbers. Police on the scene could not confirm

whether the suspect acted alone and the matter is being investigated. Spokesperson for Limpopo SAPS, Col Ronel Otto, said a case of murder was opened as is customary in such instances although nobody had been charged with a crime at this time. The investigation continues. “I would like to add that I was extremely impressed with the response and professionalism of the local police oﬃcers who arrived on the scene. They were courteous and professional and they handled the situation as well as the scene with extreme care and understanding. Special thank you to Lt Col Ngobeni, Const. Machete and Capt Maake of Letsitele Detective branch. Well done and thank you for your quick response, we appreciate your service.”

Taylor family unharmed after early morning attack In yet another farm attack, two robbers gained access to a family home in George’s Valley during the early hours of Monday morning. It is believed that the suspects entered the home of the Taylor family through the kitchen window after having removed the burglar bars. John and Ingrid Taylor were asleep in their bedroom when the suspects awoke them. One of the men pointed a gun at John’s head while the other wielded a knife. It was later discovered that the knife was taken from their kitchen. “They were very young,” said Ingrid in reference to the assailants, “one boy looked to be around 17 and the other would not be more than 23 years of age. They were very calm as they tied us up with cell phone charger cables and shoelaces and they spoke English too. They were very calm and quiet.” The Taylors have two sons, one is still in school and the eldest matriculated last year. The boys were asleep at the time. Ingrid said that the suspects also tied up their youngest son, but not the eldest as they possibly never knew where his room was. “Our eldest son slept through the whole ordeal – thankfully they never woke him as he would have come to investigate and who knows what may have

happened then.” In the minutes that followed they ransacked the house, stealing all electronics and valuables including jewellery, two laptops, the family’s cell phones and the television. The suspects loaded their bait in the Taylors’ Volkswagen Passat but, at first, were unable start the vehicle to make their getaway. Unlike conventional motorcars, the Passat is equipped with a keycard and it would appear as though the suspects were unfamiliar with this technology. “That’s when they came back into the house, untied our son and ordered him to assist them in starting the vehicle. They then sped off. My son came back into the house, grabbed the two-way radio and untied my husband and I. We immediately radioed for assistance over the George’s Valley Farmer’s Association Safety and Security network and all the farmers in the area responded.” A high speed chase ensued between the members of the surrounding farms and SAPS officers as the suspects fled towards Haenertsburg. The farmers remained in radio contact with the police and together they managed to collaborate and execute a road block on the road just outside the entrance to Polokwane. According to eyewitnesses, an estimated 12 Polokwane SAPS officers were waiting for the vehicle

and opened ﬁre as they approached the city entrance. The suspects lost control of the vehicle and drove through a roadside wire fence before exiting the vehicle and ﬂeeing on foot. Because of the dense fog the suspects evaded arrest. According to the Polokwane SAPS, a statement will be issued on the incident. The four girls (pupils of Merensky) participated in the “Little Mr and Miss Galaxy SA 2016”. Thabiso Lesley Makgopa is Tzaneen’s newest recording rasta music artist. He hails from Relela ga-Modjadji. His stage name is Bongo Tee and he has released his ﬁrst album, titled “The struggle is on”. The album offers twelve songs, amongst others Balodzwi ke marasta, Hi ngayi hi vhanu, Unity, Crying for you and more. Trained to nourish the children in our area For the past two years Hlanganani Group Services Trust trained one hundred Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners who graduated at the Hlanganani Centre at The Junction in Letsitele. The graduates celebrated the completion of their NQF Level 4 and NQF Level 5 qualifications. All the candidates had to have passed Grade 12 or at least a minimum of ten years’ experience in early childhood development. During most of the training all 100 practitioners attended, unfortunately 2 practitioners passed away and two dropped out. The training aimed on imparting practical, hands-on skills for effective financial and day-to-day management of day-care centres. The training course comprised of three objectives: • Plan and prepare for Early Childhood Development.

• Facilitate and monitor the development of babies, toddlers and young children. • Provide care and support to babies, toddlers and young children Throughout the course the practitioners were taught on how to facilitate the holistic development of babies, toddlers and young children, interpret and use information from text, provide care for babies, toddlers and young children, read/ view, analyze and respond to a variety of text, design activities to support the development of babies, toddlers and young children, motivate and build a team. Ms Lorraine van Tonder, project manager of Hlanganani Group Services Trust that facilitated the entire programme believes that the practitioners gained valuable knowledge and skills that will ensure that they are well equipped to do

their daily tasks eﬀectively and with pride. She added that the response to the training was overwhelming and the practitioners were serious about being trained. The head of the National Development Agency in Limpopo, Prof Zack Chuenyane, said the practitioners have shown a strong sense of dedication, perseverance and they should live up to the spirit. Mr Felix Hacker of DuRoi Nursery, one of the guardians of Hlanganani Trust, said: “Practitioners, you have the heart of children in your hands and your job is to nourish the children”. In the first incident which took place in 2005, Baloyi forcefully took the 17-year-old girl to his house and repeatedly raped her until she was rescued by her mother the following morning. He was sentenced to an effective forty years imprisonment. In the second incident in 2010, the court heard that Baloyi took two young boys aged 12 and 13 years respectively to his house and raped both of them. Boston City Campus College recently played their Sports Day friendly soccer and netball games between Boston Tzaneen and Boston Polokwane. The weather was ideal and parents and carers came to support their teams. Blue Mountain College’s boys soccer team beat Meridian College 3-0 and fought hard against Standford Lake College, losing 6-4 in recent clashes on the soccer ﬁeld. Reën het die afgelope naweek skolekrieket in Limpopo ontwrig, toe die meeste wedstryde uitgereën het. By Thabazimbi het die eerste spanne van die Hoërskool Frikkie Meyer en die Hoërskool Ben Vorster egter hul ligabepaling afgehanJean-Pierre Prinsloo del. Pas nadat die wenlopies aangeteken is, het die hemel se sluise geopen en het swaar reën uitgesak. ‘n Nat buiteveld en ‘n nat kol op die kolfblad het spel aanvanklik vertraag tot 11:00. Ben Vorster het die loot verloor en is gevra om eerste te boul. Met die tweede aﬂewering van die dag het Jean-Pierre Prinsloo met ‘n puik aﬂewering Frikkie Meyer se openingskolwer bvp betrap. Hierna moes die Vossies wal gooi, met Frikkie Meyer wat in sagte reën aanvallend gekolf en lopies bly opstapel het (110 vir 4 na 25 beurte). Na die koeldrankpouse het die Vossie-boulers behoorlik onder die kolwers ingeklim en hulle tot 176 lopies beperk (almal uit). Jean-Pierre het 4 beurte geboul vir slegs 1 lopie en het 3 paaltjies geneem om uiteindelik met 4 paaltjies vir slegs 17 lopies te spog. Na ‘n kort middagete is die Vossie-kolwers in om die telling met alle erns te jaag. Na 26 boulbeurte was Ben Vorster besig om te wankel op 140 lopies vir die verlies van 8 paaltjies. Regardt Heiberg (41) en die openingskolwer, Christiaan Mkansi (met 34), was in daardie stadium die enigste twee kolwers wat hond haaraf kon maak met die kolf. Met nog 37 lopies kort om te wen, maar met 108 balle oor, het die speler van die wedstryd, Jean-Pierre Prinsloo, ingekom en met 19 lopies nun die middelorde-kolwer, Aubrey van Renen (35 lopies nun), gehelp om die wedstryd in die 34ste beurt met 2 paaltjies te wen.

Dié groot groep atlete wat deur Philip Entres van Tzaneen afgerig word, gaan more Limpopo by die ASA Landloopkampioenskappe in Middelburg verteenwoordig. In die onderste ry sit JP Botha, Tristan Brett, Sharice Smith, Keira Booth, Isabella Brett, Layah Mohamed, Elia Jones en Mika Jones. In dietweede ry van onder is Jurgens Spaumer, Murray Loughar-Clarke, Layla de Bruyn, Amelia Booth, Noha Jones, Anika du Toit, Rebecca Mclaren, Dylan Purdon en Daniel Mclaren, en in die ry agter hulle is Zoë Malherbe, Elandri Janse van Rensburg, Jack Stewart, Ethan Jones, Byron Andrew, Joné du Toit, Marais Botha en Drikus du Toit. In die boonste ry is Juan Meintjes, Anri McLean, Christelle Coetzer, Ankia Botha, Johan du Toit, Janco Coetzee en Tracy Petersen. Ongelukkig was Marthinus van Vreden, Kyle van Tonder, Yvonne Botha, Max Drewett en Tewis Willemse afwesig toe die foto geneem moes word.

TOUR DE POT (Mokopane) Rain, mud and slippery tracks were the order of the day on Saturday, when the third round of the Limpopo schools’ cycling league, the “Tour de Pot”, took place in Mokopane. Stanford Lake College sent a team of eighteen riders to this event, to compete for the top spots and notch up overall points for the school in the series. It was a cold and wet start with rain falling from the night before and only clearing up halfway through the day. The mud and slippery tracks caused some havoc with technical problems and crashes. Surprisingly, it was still all smiles and cheers with the commentator and kids keeping the spirits high and the adrenalin pumping. Stanford managed five podium positions with Lachlan Truesdale and Sarah Pogrund taking second place in the junior men and junior women; Paul Dando taking second in the youth men and Reese Bain and Kirsten Eastes taking first and second respectively in the youth women. SLC’s cyclists are looking forward to the final round, the “Tour de Lip”. Seen here are Kirsten (second), Reese (first) and Amelia Middleton of Merensky High School (third).

Dorothy de Lange was een van die uitblinkertjies van Zanis Gimnastiekklub se onlangse ritmiese kompetisie wat in Polokwane aangebied is. Binne is nog foto’s.

Atleetjies van Larrieland, die Laerskool Tzaneen se gr R-afdeling, het aan die tweede LLSV-byeenkoms by die Hoërskool Merensky deelgeneem (waar byna 900 atlete saamgetrek het). Die Larries se o.6-hardlopertjies wat medaljes verower het, is Bilal Badar, Shayan Shahzad en Jonathan Nzita en agter sit (halfverskuild) Isabelle du Preez.
