21 finally laid to rest

The unclaimed bodies of 21 unknown individuals found their final resting place in the Modjadjiskloof cemetery yesterday morning. Some of the bodies had been left at the Letaba Forensics mortuary since 2009 as no family members had come forward to claim the remains. A pauper’s burial was planned for all 21 bodies and was conducted by the National Legal Aid (NLA) Funeral Services,

for the Greater Letaba Municipality (GLM). The service was offered free of charge. Contrary to traditional pauper’s funerals, the event attracted dignitaries to the cemetery. Present during the burials were the Mayor Cllr Matlou, the Speaker, Cllr Makhananisa and the Environmental Affairs manager, Lerato Shoroma. Members of the media were also in attendance. Bulletin

asked Lovers Maenetje, the spokesperson of the GLM, why the high ranking municipal officials were attending a pauper’s burial to which she responded that it was to thank the NLA for rendering their services free of charge. We also attempted to speak to Shoroma about the cemetery debacle, but we were brushed off and referred to Maenetje. Read the full story on page 2.

other, into each of the seven graves. A short burial sermon and prayer was given. News of the burial came as a shock to Modjadjiskloof residents who are still boiling under the collar following last week’s GLM sanctioned meeting at the badminton hall. The purpose of the meeting was for the GLM to engage in discussion with the Modjadjiskloof residents on the topic of including Kgapane burials at their local cemetery. The municipality justified their decision by saying that the Kgapane cemetery was full and that Modjadjiskloof would act as a temporary interim solution. The residents were furious. They were not consulted in a public participation hearing, nor were they afforded the opportunity to

and would house three of the paupers’ coffins each. The NLA funeral services handled the burials.

raise their objections. During the meeting the DA councillor was again silenced when he raised concerns over space issues and the number of funerals the GLM were planning for. “Apparently the GLM had known that the Kgapane cemetery was reaching its capacity back in 2014, but had for some reason waited until it turned into a crisis before reacting,” said Frederick Pohl, DA councillor in Modjadjiskloof. “When I asked the municipality how many burials we should expect in a month, their answer was that they did not know how many would die. How ridiculous is that for an answer?” It seems that the meeting was meant as a pacifier to the community. “We did not need to consult the community on this issue. The meeting was merely to inform the residence of what was going to happen,” said Lovers Maenetje, spokesperson for the GLM. “As for rumours that a service provider had been appointed prior to the meeting; those allegations are not true. What service would someone be providing in this instance?” A source told Bulletin that it is likely that the burial of the 21 paupers had been discussed behind closed doors a few weeks earlier, and that the community meeting last week was merely a way to cover their tracks in legal paperwork as they failed to follow protocol which includes public participation. We sent an official enquiry to Maenetje to gain clarity from the GLM last week. At the time of going to print we had still not received any response. The coffins were lowered in unison across the seven designated graves. Each grave was 9 foot deep — Joe Dreyer

Twenty one unclaimed corpses were buried in the Modjadjiskloof cemetery yesterday (Thursday) morning. Some of the remains lay unclaimed at the Letaba Forensic Pathology’s morgue in Ga-Kgapane since early 2009. Of the 21 unidentified bodies, 13 were male – one of which was estimated to have been around 57 years of age. The other seven were too far decomposed to distinguish gender. The bodies were transported to the Modjadjiskloof cemetery by National Legal Aid Funeral Services after they were approached by Letaba Forensics for assistance. Modjadjiskloof municipality donated seven graves for the burial. In accordance with common practice in regards to pauper burials, the bodies were placed three atop of each

Bathopele questions allegations Allegations made against a testing official at the Bathopele Private Vehicle Test Station in Tzaneen, have not been confirmed. This after the allegations contained in a Bulletin report, was investigated by top management at this facility, and found lacking and insufficient to warrant further action. Last week we reported that a client had allegedly been asked for a R100 bribe by an official at Bathopele to pass his vehicle through a road worthy test. The vehicle in question had failed the test because of worn wiper blades, a control arm and worn rear brakes. At the time of going to print last week, we were unable to get hold of the testing station on their listed landline. We were therefore not able to get comment from them on the allegations. Managing director of Bathopele Private Vehicle Test Station, Rey Nortje, discussed the matter with Bulletin in a formal meeting at his office on Monday morning. “We take allegations such as those mentioned in your report, very seriously at this facility,” Nortje said. “We do not condone any underhanded dealings with any of our clients and in fact we have strict regulations in place to prevent that from happening. If you could not reach us on our landline, at the very least you could have popped into the office and discussed the allegations before you published them.” Nortje said that the company operates five testing stations in the Limpopo province and have never had any reports tabled of instances where officials alleg-

edly demanded so-called bribe money. He did admit that if such a practice would occur, it would be dealt with very seriously should a formal investigation provide substantial evidence to prove it. “I run around daily between all our offices and it is impossible for me personally to check up on all the staff, all the time. So it may be possible that this could have happened, as these things are nothing new to any corporation, but we have a very good track record and it would be the first time I come to hear of it.” Furthermore, he questioned the evidence provided by the

client upon which our report was founded. “If the client has any concrete proof, we will gladly use that proof to start our investigations and concurrent disciplinary actions against the culprit. At the moment however, all we have is hearsay. Without actual evidence, be it photographic, video or a voice recording of the alleged exchange, our hands are tied. We feel that we were not afforded a fair chance to state our side of the matter before the allegations were published.” Bulletin conceded that not enough had been done to contact the facility for comment and that the exclusion may have inadvertently allowed for the report to appear unintentionally biased. We also apologised for the use of a generic testing station image in the report, instead of an actual photograph of the Tzaneen testing station. Nortje cross-checked the Bulletin report with their own paperwork and found that a vehicle matching the description had indeed been examined at his station on the date reported. It had been failed for worn wiper blades, a control arm and worn rear brakes. “Be assured that we will definitely look into the matter and make our findings known. Any member of the public who would like to report cases of attempted bribery, or have any other testing station queries should please contact me directly on 083-271-6793 should they fail to reach us on our landline numbers 015-307-6828 / 015-307-7767.” — Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

Four years ago he almost died Prince Mudau is happy to be alive today. Four years ago, this month, he was stuck in the wreckage of a 26-truck transport train just outside Politsi. The forty-two year old train driver and two of his colleagues were returning to Tzaneen from Polokwane with their diesel tanker cargo (estimated at around 1 million litres of diesel) when the train derailed. He was working for Spoornet at the time. “I will never forget that night,” Prince said. “It was cold and dark and I was in much

pain. God must bless those people for the good work they do.” Emergency service responders were on the scene within minutes of the accident and struggled for more than six hours to cut Prince out of the wreckage. When they finally managed to free him, Prince was tired, cold, hungry and in shock. His colleagues were rushed to Mediclinic Tzaneen with minor injuries and released the following day.

“They freed me at around 02:00 that morning. I remember that they tried to keep me calm during the whole process. I will never forget them.” Sure enough, he stuck to his word and this week, on Tuesday afternoon, Prince Mudau travelled to the Tzaneen fire station to shake the hands of the men and women who gave him a second chance. It was an emotional moment and one that touched the hearts of everyone involved. “It is always satisfying to see someone you helped save, carry on with their life.

It is very humbling when they return sometime after the fact and look you in the eye and say thank you,” said Kobus Visser, Mopani District Chief Fire Officer. The cost of the damages to the train and locomotive reportedly ran into the millions and the environmental impact threat was so great (diesel was leaking from a number of the damaged diesel trucks) that experts were flown in from Durban to contain the situation. The cargo was first dealt with before the enormous task of clearing the tracks began. Mudau sustained serious injuries to his right leg and some internal bleeding. To this day his leg has not yet completely healed and he is still on medical leave. The wreckage of the train still stands beneath the Politsi station bridge. The mangled remains of Prince’s train was placed atop a freight train. It is a haunting reminder of what could have happened.

The mangled wreckage of the train from which Prince Mudau was rescued. The wreck can still be viewed where it stands on the tracks at Politsi station, just outside Tzaneen.

Will dagga get the green light? In the early hours of the 5th of August 2010, Myrtle Clarke and Julian Stobbs’s Jack Russell jumped off their bed with a warning bark. It was the police who had come to arrest the couple and charge them with dealing in dagga. This Johannesburg couple had three choices: accept punishment and face 7-10 years jail time, bribe the cops “Put R40, 000.00 into our account” they said, or fight this. They chose the latter. Myrtle and Julian, dubbed the Dagga Couple, gave up their high earning jobs in the film industry and sued seven South African government departments on charges of enacting unlawful laws. They were granted a stay of prosecution in 2011. In two weeks time, they will be in the Pretoria High Court to challenge the constitutionality of the prohibition of dagga. Speaking at the Holistic Fair at the Magoebaskloof Hotel, the couple said that they had found a pro bono solid law firm called Schindlers where all the partners are under the age of 40. The Dagga Couple believes that young minds are needed to fight the archaic prohibition of dagga in South Africa. They formed Fields of Green for All, a non-profit company, registered in South Africa in 2013.

There are now 47 stays of prosecution waiting for an outcome. There are more than 90, 000 dagga arrests each year in South Africa. Julian advised people arrested for dagga possession not to sign the SAPS admission of guilt form and rather phone 011 568 2466 for help and legal aid. The law prohibiting dagga is the only law in South Africa where you are guilty until proven innocent. The Dagga Couple never set out to become activists or public speakers but now they travel the country meeting people who either for medical, agricultural or recreational use want the prohibition on dagga lifted. The Dagga Couple is actively dispelling the notion that dagga is the gateway to the fridge and couch. Therefore they have embraced and promote active top sportsmen and women. The present government has been conducting aerial crop spraying in Port St John’s since 1998. Not only does this kill the intended dagga but the mealies as well as other crops. South Africa is one of the last countries in the world still spraying with helicopters. The Dagga Couple were in Port St John’s as activists two years ago and there’s been no aerial crop spraying since then. The Dagga Couple promotes responsible adult use, growing industrial cannabis e.g. hemp, traditional cultural and religious use and lastly the beneficial health uses.

The Message Rev Ron Reiners Anglican Church Greetings in the Name of Christ! It is believed that a son often takes after his father, yet how close are they? Does the son share his feelings with his father, more especially his innermost ones? It is often the mother who hears all the stories and there is always a closer bond between a mother and son than between father and son. Sometimes the son copies the characteristics of his father. Was the father loving and caring, or was he an absent father? Unfortunately, in many cases today we find that it is the mother who is the primary caregiver, more especially in the African culture. In many cases it is the maternal grandmother who looks after the children. So where does the male child go for guidance? The Bible tells us that a man should be the head of the family, but this often does not happen and it is left to the mother to see to the spiritual guidance and development of the son. This seems to be the norm in English families. I am going by church attendance in my assumptions. There are, however, some cases where the father fulfils his rightful place (Biblically). If we look at the life of Jesus, not much is mentioned of the influence Joseph in His life. But it is mentioned that Joseph took Him to the temple and He learned His trade from Joseph. Now this was in His earthly life, however, in His life as God’s Son, God was ever present. Jesus always obeyed His Father’s will, even to His death on the cross. I wonder how many of our sons actually obey everything we as fathers ask them to do? Jesus was perfect and therefore one might think that it was easy to obey His Father, but Jesus was also fully human so He must have also questioned what God was asking of Him. Never-the-less He was willing to do His Father’s will…..”Your will not mine” Just as our son’s ask us to do things for them, especially when they are in difficulties, so too did Jesus ask His Father to do things for Him……Matthew 26 v 39 “ Going a little further, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me.” We as sons of the living God, once we have accepted Christ as our Saviour, can also ask God for His blessings and favour to fall upon us. God will answer us and give us what we ask for in Jesus’ name, if it is good for us. Are we true sons of God, or are we mere followers of a leader? Do we trust God enough to obey His commands even unto death? I pray that we as fathers and sons will be united in Christ. Blessings.

Good Guy Gordon, taken far too soon Whilst there are some facts about the tragedy that took Gordon Barrett(48) from his family that are still unclear, the fact that Gordon was one of the ‘good guys’ is very clear indeed. Barrett was in a fatal accident in the early hours of Saturday, 8 July, on his way home to their family farm in Shalock Valley outside Tzaneen. It is thought that he fell asleep and unintentionally drove off the road. He passed of severe head injuries. A very well composed, yet clearly emotional Jack Barrett, Gordon’s older brother, said, “The last minutes of his life are unknown, but what we do know is that he is gone.” The presence in the Barrett home and on their farm, Carthona, is warm and welcoming and in the short time spent there, the common thread of those who described Gordon’s generosity and warmth towards others, revealed its roots very quickly. A glimpse into their rich family history and the breathtaking views and lush indigenous vegetation around this home is the perfect picture to match the description of Gordon’s passion for the area, its history and the beauty of Tzaneen and its surrounds. Gordon spent much of his life in this area, his personal history in Tzaneen dates back to the 1970’s, when his late father, Gerry Barrett, was the 3rd headmaster of Unicorn Preparatory School, then still known as Unicorn Primary School. Gordon spent his school years between Tzaneen and Settlers, as his father went on to Lord Milner School as headmaster after his time at Unicorn.

Gordon matriculated from Merensky High School in 1987 and went on to do his studies in Kwa-Zulu Natal, completing his B-Comm degree through Unisa whilst doing his articles. “He was kind and caring, our wives loved talking to him,” said a close friend of over 30 years, whilst explaining how Gordon was the kind of person who took everything to heart and genuinely cared. He always tried to offer sound advice. Gordon was an accountant and worked for many wellknown companies, such as Sunbake in Tzaneen, SA Breweries in Polokwane and a food wholesaler in Gabarone, Botswana. “And he was clever,” his friend added. It was this combination of empathy and intelligence that not only gained him success in his career but won the hearts of the people he met along his journey. His two older siblings, spoke fondly, with genuine love and respect for him about how he was a larger than life kind of guy, with a big heart to match. “In August 2006, our youngest son, Gordon, made an offer to buy Ravenshill from us. His reasons were that he was passionate about the history of the farm; that he wished to do all in his power to preserve the heritage of the farm and especially the houses and that he hoped to be able to live there one day.” – excerpt from Ravenshill and its people by Gerry and Margaret Barret. This farm seeped in history, dating back to Sarah Heckford and Charles Thomas Astley Maberly, before Tzaneen existed, has been in the

family since the 1980’s, on his mother’s side. Gordon was a free spirit, his daughter, Tamzin, posted on her Facebook page how grateful she is for the love of adventure that he instilled within her and her brother. He had very big plans for Ravenshill and initially upon his return from Botswana after his father passed, he wanted to restore and enjoy it to it’s fullest, by “living it rough, living off the land.” However, due to his incredible smarts, he was irresistible to the business sector and was quickly snatched up by Diggersrest, where he eventually worked as their Managing Director. “I know he loved me, I know all three of my children do and there is alot of comfort in that” Margaret Barrett said about him and added that she was incredibly grateful for the wealth of support she has received. Charles George Gordon Barrett, born 27 March 1969 is survived by his mother, Margaret Barrett, his bother Jack, his sister Bridget Robinson, his children Tamzin and Jack and their mother, Leanne Barrett of Polokwane. His memorial service will be held on their family farm, Carthona, in Shalock Valley near Modjadji, at 3pm on Friday 14 July. At the Politsi/Modjadji T-junction turn right (if coming from Tzaneen), approximately 10kms from there follow the sign post on the right to ‘Jacaranda Cottages, The Barrett Family’. For detailed directions please contact the family on 015 065 0371.

Those who knew Gordon knew Sexy... yes, his little white dog and best friend.

Young man dies in burning vehicle

The burnt out wreck of the Toyota Yaris at the scene near Pekoe View. Photograph supplied by Tzaneen SAPS.

The body of a man was recovered from the burnt out wreckage of a Toyota Yaris on the Sapekoe estates outside Tzaneen, on Wednesday afternoon. A source revealed that the deceased was a well-loved local employee of the Absa bank group in Tzaneen. It is believed that he was 36 years old at the time of his death. Despite rumours over social media that the incident may have been a suicide, these allegations have not yet been confirmed.

An autopsy will offer more clarity. Police were informed of the burning vehicle after motorists spotted the car in flames near one of the abandoned buildings at Sapekoe. The vehicle was stationary at the time. Eye witnesses said that they saw the vehicle driving along the R71 and then up to the old tea plantation at Pekoe View, park next to the building and then burst into flames a short while later. The police responded to

the scene and extinguished the flames. Inside the vehicle they found the body of what they believe to be a 36-year old male. The body had been burnt beyond recognition. The cause of the fire has not yet been established and an inquest docket has been opened for investigation. At the time of going to print, foul play had not been suspected. Community members are urged not to post their opinions over social media in matters

such as this as the victims’ families may not yet have been informed of the tragedy at the time. Persons posting their own insights or ideas of what may have transpired could adversely affect investigations. Wednesday’s tragic incident is the second of its kind reported in the media over the past few days. — Joe Dreyer

GTM pays only after equipment is attached The salary dispute that caused a stir at the offices of the GTM a month ago, has cost the municipality dearly. On Wednesday morning at 10:00 the Sheriff of the court once again stopped by to execute a warrant. This time, instead of collecting the mayor’s vehicle, his team walked into the building and started disconnecting computer equipment. They loaded computers, screens, flat screen television sets, printers, copiers and faxes onto a delivery truck

in full view of GTM staff, management and clients. Onlookers giggled loudly and one man shouted, “yes that’s right, load all their stuff and maybe then they’ll stop their corruption!” The property was attached in execution of a warrant for a total of R196 000 owed by the GTM to the security company, Mapheto Business Services (MBS) for outstanding salaries to their security officers. According to information, MBS has a three year working contract with the municipality to supply security services such as access control and guarding patrols. The workers downed tools in June because they had not been paid for four months. The company employs close on 150 security officers. On the 27th of May a meeting was called between Peter Sedutla, the owner of MBS and GTM Mayor, Maripe Mangena. According to MBS, Mangena promised that the salaries would be paid two days later, on the 29th of

May. When that did not happen, the workers staged a sitdown on the 7th of June on the doorstep of the GTM and refused any employee access to the building. As is customary with the GTM, the amount was paid in full an hour after the Sheriff attached the goods and the equipment was returned to the municipal offices. “We paid them and we got our equipment back,” confirmed Neville Ndlala, GTM spokesperson. He also confirmed the amount attached to the warrant. This latest drama has raised the question as to why extreme measures need to be implemented before the GTM pay their suppliers. Some members of the community commented over social media that this trend proves that the GTM has the money to pay, but for some reason always delay to do so until they are dragged into court. A video of the drama at the GTM can be viewed on our website at www.bulletin.us.com or by liking our Facebook page. — Joe Dreyer

The sheriff of the court and his team arrived at the GTM offices on Wednesday morning and started removing electronic office equipment from the building. This was in execution of a warrant for R196 000 owed to MBS. zz

ALL-NEW DISCOVERY BRINGS

PUSH-BUTTON OFF-ROAD CAPABILITY • • •

Land Rover’s renown off-road capability bolstered by advanced driver assistance technologies All Terrain Progress Control and Terrain Response 2 boost driver confidence in treacherous conditions Full suite of on-road assistance systems enhance safety

Since 1989, the Land Rover Discovery has been a shining beacon of everyday ingenuity: combining Land Rover’s incredible offroad capability, latest technologies, clever packaging and versatility, to deliver the world’s best family vehicle. This tradition continues with the All-New Discovery. With Land Rover’s trademark Command Driving Position, drivers can experience the All-New Discovery’s enhanced breadth of capability in complete confidence, irrespective of the road and weather conditions, by providing excellent visibility. The All-New Discovery’s peerless all-terrain ability makes it one of the most capable vehicles ever to wear a Land Rover badge. Engineered to have inherent off-road capability, the All-New Discovery has more ground clearance, can wade through deeper water and approach steeper angles than before. This is augmented by Land Rover’s comprehensive suite of innovative driver-assistance technologies, ensuring it remains the class-leader when faced with the toughest all-terrain environments. All-New Discovery is available with Land Rover’s multi-mode Terrain Response 2 system, which automatically monitors driving conditions to ensure the vehicle is primed to cope with a range of surfaces. Terrain Response 2 can also be manually selected using a rotary controller, with modes for general

driving; grass, gravel and snow; mud and ruts; sand; and rock crawling. Each driving mode has a specific throttle mapping, drivetrain mode, steering response, suspension set-up, and traction control settings. For particularly challenging terrain, drivers can use All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) to autonomously maintain a suitable crawl speed, between 2- and 30km/h. This assistive technology allows the driver to concentrate solely on steering the vehicle as they negotiate off-road obstacles, without the distraction of operating the throttle or brake pedals. ATPC is a technology that has been tuned using Land Rover’s decades of off-road expertise, giving drivers confidence – whether they’re pulling away on slippery uphill slopes or fording water up to 900mm deep. “Our unrivalled collection of all-terrain technologies gives customers real confidence and ensures that any driver, be they an enthusiastic off-roader or a parent taking their children to school, can deal with any situation confidently and safely,” said Mike Cross, Land Rover Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity. These assistive technologies combine with Land Rover’s suite of safety systems that include an off-road ABS, which gives drivers the best possible stopping power on gravel surfaces, as well as Hill Descent Control, Gradient Release Control, Electronic Traction

Control, and Roll Stability Control. With its class-leading wading depth of 900mm, the All-New Discovery is also available with Wade Sensing, which provides real-time water depth information on the vehicle’s central display. Exceptional offroad capability has not come at the expense of on-road refinement and versatility. The All-New Discovery has been extensively tested to ensure on-road performance, comfort and safety are a match for its class-leading all-terrain capability. In everyday driving, drivers once again get to take advantage of Land Rover’s driver assistance technologies. These include Park Assist, which offers semi-autonomous functions for perpendicular and parallel parking, in addition to a high-definition surround camera system. Land Rover’s Blind Spot Monitor and Blind Spot Assist safety systems ensure drivers remain safe when travelling on busy roads, while Closing Vehicle Sensing scans for fast

approaching vehicles further behind and alerts drivers to collision risks if they were to move into the path of an approaching vehicle in an adjacent lane. Lane Keep Assist will also help drivers avoid straying into lanes. The All-New Land Rover Discovery launches in July 2017. Prices start at R980 000. Customers can log on to www.landrover.co.za to build their own All-New Discovery using the Land Rover configurator. — Nicola Clarke

Tzaneen has raised R13 000 in cash donations along with thousands more in food and implements during the past week. According to Tracey Leppan of the Letaba SPCA, employees of the organization have been left speechless after receiving 180kg dog food, 30kg cat food, 80 tins of cat and dog food, dog and cat toys and 10 litter trays for kittens. One businessman, Hennie Smit from Midas Tzaneen, signed a monthly debit order for R4 000 while Tolstoy Kruger of Best Drive Tzaneen in partnership with auto spares dealers, Autoquest, fitted the SPCA bakkie with four brand new tyres. The little ones at Tzaneen Naskool did their bid and collected a huge amount of food

and treats for the animals while schools such as Laerskool Duiwelskloof Primary and Ben Vorster High have continued their support. Rhino Chemicals have also continued their monthly donation of cleaning chemicals. “Thank you, thank you, thank you Tzaneen! You have opened your hearts to the plight of the often forgotten and for that we are forever grateful,” said Leppan. It is the SPCA’s wish that no particular business or individual be singled out as they believe that every donation, no matter the quantity, is important and they are thankful for every last cent. Bulletin did, however make a promise to the business owners over social media that everyone involved will

be acknowledged. To this day, two weeks after our first article on the plight of the Letaba SPCA, not a single word has come out of the office of the Greater Letaba (Modjadjiskloof) Municipal Manager, Ms Mashaba. This municipal manager seems either incapable of responding to media enquiries, or is so busy with training courses that she is never in her office. What training courses she would need to attend if she allegedly already possesses the necessary qualifications for her office, is still unclear. Clearly the GLM just do not care.

— Joe Dreyer joe@bulletin.us.com

They wore a misty crown Haenertsburg Rotary Club organised yet another successful Iron Crown Trail Run on Saturday. The race began at half past seven in the morning. The five and ten kilometer trail started and finished near the Village Hall as did the main event, the 21.1km race. The 21.1km route took its runners to the top of the Iron Crown, the highest point in Limpopo measuring an ascent of up to 2, 126 meters. The track wound along vil-

lage streets, muddy roads, firebreaks as well as single lane foot paths that connect the surrounding mountains. Before sunrise, Rotarian Deneys Barry, joined by Steven Wilson from Stanford Lake College, and volunteers drove up the Iron Crown in their four-by-fours to set up the water tables for the runners. By 07:00 the red tape, arrows and the sherry was set up and ready. It was a freezing cold day as mist hovered over the mountain cir-

cling the runners with an icy cold wind. The runners pushed themselves up the final stretch to the pylons where Deneys awaited their arrival. Eighteen runners took part in the 21.1 km race. First place in the men’s was Koketjo Grumbo, second was Johan Canters and third was Liam Roode. Donna Greyling was first in the women’s 21.1 km race, second was Minkie Els and Ella Venter sprinted in third.

What better way to enjoy the Iron Crown Trail Run than a short break at the summit, Martin Tooley, Garth Lancefield and Alistair Swartz are seen here at the highest point in Limpopo.

Josh Selfe from Haenertsburg runs the 21.1km shrouded in mist on top of the Iron Crown Mountain.

Donna Greyling in first place, Minkie Els in second and Ella Venter in third place. With them is Rotary President Paddy Ansell and Etienne Gouwes from Discovery.

Koketjo Grumbo in first place, Johan Canters in second and absent was Liam Roode in third place. With them is Etienne Gouwes from Discovery and Rotary President Paddy Ansell.
