Mediclinic kry vierde teater Bouwerk om Mediclinic Tzaneen se vierde teater teen die einde van Julie in gebruik te neem, het dié week begin. Die haas onbekende groei van die hospitaal en die hoeveelheid spesialiste in die dorp noodsaak ‘n vierde teater. Die voorsitter van die hospitaal se direksie, dr Ig J van Rensburg, sê “ons kon dit nie langer uitstel nie — die dokters staan behoorlik tou om plek op die teaterlyste te kry”. Die jongste uitbreiding kom op die vooraand van ‘n verdere aankondiging oor uitbreiding van die hospitaal. Die terrein is Dinsdag aan die bouer (Ansaki Con-

struction) vir die teaterbouwerk oorhandig. Muhlava Cross and Sasekani residents (between Nkowankowa and Lenyenye) staged a protest and barricaded the main road between Tzaneen and Lenyenye, to air their frustations about the shortage of water in the area. Almost at the same time the Mopani District Municipality held meetings throughout the district, to discus the IDP budget for the new financial year. It was interesting to observe how members of the public who attended the meetings expressed their concern about water — with electricity now having become their second priority. Good news. Brig Thomas Shingange has been promoted to the SAPS’s Tzaneen Cluster Commander. He replaces Maj Gen Maggy Mathebula who has been transferred to the Limpopo SAPS Head Office in Polokwane. Shingange was the Officer Commandig of the Tzaneen Police, before being transferred to Polokwane as OC. He is a much respected officer, since he is a no-nonsense policeman who goes by the book in executing his duties. Thugs should take notice that he plans to clamp down on lawlessness in the area and he will not tolerate any form of criminal activity or any corruption by SAPS members.
The news that Ms Conny Mametja has been suspended as municipal manager of Polokwane, has been received with disbelief by Tzaneen residents. Three of her directors have also been notified of anticipated action against them. The MM of the Capricorn District Municipality has also resigned and it is said that he was “pushed” out. Mr Tim Maake, Mopani’s MM has been suspended and the GTM’s MM, Mr Mathye Mankabidi, has been given a golden handshake. We have information from a reliable source that more suspensions may follow. It is said that Tzaneen could also be in for a shock. Mametja was deployed in Tzaneen’s after the recusal of Mr Mabakane Mangena. She was popular for getting involved in community matters and trying hard to clean up the town. The photo right shows her on an inspection of the river area in Tzaneen.

die sinkgat vra ek hom om een kant om te loop en op die kant te gaan staan, sodat ek van die anderkant af ‘n fotoperspektief kan kry op die gat se grootte. Water has become the top priority Water for domestic use seems to have taken over from electricity as a top priority for people in the more rural areas of Mopani. During the recent meetings held through the district to present the IDP budget for the new financial year, residents made it clear that a reliable supply of quality water is their most important need. The MDM’s mayor, Ms Nkakareng Ragoale, attended the meetings and she was not shy to promise residents speedy action to attend to their problems. In Lenyenye, where the attendance was surprisingly good, people remained calm and made their points in an articulated manner. The main complaint about the budget was that people found it “somewhat incomprehensible for ordinary people”. Pertaining to the water problems, people stated clearly that the distribution network, the neglected boreholes and borehole pumps, the leaks and the distances people have to push wheelbar-

Die lelie het verwelk ‘n Bekende inwoner van Tzaneen, veral vir sy kunstige hande met houtwerk en sy liefde vir en kennis van daglelies, mnr Dirk Groenewald (73) is na ‘n korterige siekbed in die Mediclinic Tzaneen dood. Sy familie het die volgende huldeblyk aan hom voorgelê: Tussen houtskaafsels en daglelies deur, loop die voetspore van Dirk Groenewald van Tzaneen. Hier het Dirk sy plek in die skepping gevind. Hy sal veral onthou word vir sy houtwerk wat in menigte huishoudings ‘n adres gevind het. Sy kennis en liefde vir plante en dan veral daglelies, is goed bekend by familie, vriende en blomliefhebbers. Dirk se voetspore was die van ‘n gesinsman, geloofsman, polisieman en ywerige sportman. Die rykdom van Dirk is beleggings wat hy oor jare heen in sy gesin gemaak het. Ure is be-

Die SAVF skaaf nog Die Bulletin het verlede week aangekondig dat ons dié week meer sal sê oor die SA Vrouefederasie in Tzaneen se planne vir die toekoms. Die tak het hul subsidie van die regering verloor, maar werk hard aan ‘n plan om die sluiting van die kantoor (nie die bekende kleuterskool nie)
te verhoed. Daar is egter nog belangrike skaafwerk wat gedoen word en ten einde nie oorhaastig planne oop te gooi nie (haastige hond verbrand sy mond), sal die Bulletin eerder wag en hopelik volgende week die sluier effe kan lig oor die plan waaraan gewerk word.

MDM now blames the water problems on residents In response to our last week’s article on Sasekani and Muhlava Cross’s out cry for clean water supply, the Mopani District Municipality says the only reason the villages do not have clean water supply is that residents meddled with the water system at hand. According MDM’s head of communications Mr Neil Shikwambana, who contacted Bulletin earlier in the week, Sasekani and Muhlava Cross residents botched and made illegal connections to municipal water pipes traveling to and through the area. “Municipal water pipes in many parts of the areas have burst and are unable to carry water to its destination because of illegal connections,”
Die AGS se Tzaneen-gemeente het ‘n nuwe pastoor beroep, wat geen vreemdeling in die gemeenskap is nie. Past Hannes Steyn is al ‘n geruime tyd met bediening in en om Tzaneen besig. Hy is die leier van die interkerklike jeugsentrum Herofield (sedert 2010). Hy en sy vrou het in Mei 2014 op ‘n vrywilliger-basis betrokke geraak by die gemeente, toe past Maans Schutte afgetree het. Die bestuursraad van die gemeente het ervaar dat Hannes en sy gesin na die gemeente gestuur is. Sy vrou, Adele Steyn, is ook ‘n geordende Pastoor van die AGS. Hulle is albei sedert 2005 heeltyds in die bediening. Hulle het drie kinders: Myra, Markus en Elroy.

According to Shikwambana, the MDM met with Muhlava Cross and Sasekani residents during their protest for clean water supply and agreed on a way to fix the situation. “During the meeting, community leaders committed to mobilising community members to work together with the district municipality to identify illegal water connections... and agreed [to remove and replace] them with stand pipes,”
said Shikwambana in a media press statement he released. Shikwambana, who also says the municipality cannot supply water to residents’ homes in villages because the residents will struggle to pay for services, says the municipality believes in partnership with residents to effectively deal with issues in communities. “The reason we did not act when illegal connections were initially made is that we wanted to wait for residents to understand the problem with illegal connections to the system, and hence work with us to fix the problem,” he explained. —Joy Mojela joy@bulletin.us.com

Wait and see
The governing party has for much too long allowed a “wait and see” attitude to dictate in matters , where (and when) resolute action was badly needed. One could actually say that it was more wait and see than ANC. Border control, various forms of crime, corruption, law enforcement, Eskom, and random cadre deployment are examples of the government’s failure to act decisively. The water problems in the Sasekani and Muhlava Cross areas is by the Mopani District Municipality’s own admission yet another example of the almost fatal results of the wait and see attitue. The MDM’s spokesperson says “the reason we did not act when illegal connections were initially made is that we wanted to wait for residents to understand the problem with illegal connections to the system, and hence work with us to fix the problem...” Well, well, well... wait (for some seven years!) to understand the problems with xenophobia, wait (for some fifteen years) to understand the problems with Eskom, with the SAA, with the SABC, with the NPA... At what cost to the country?
At some time or other, we all are called upon to make a decision. Most of the times we hope that the decision we have made will bring us happiness, but often our decisions leave us with more questions than answers.

As die hele gesin aan die rituele/aktiwiteite deelneem, kan hegte gesinsbande gesmee word. Die gesin wat mekaar ondersteun in die verlies van ‘n troeteldier, sal ook weet om dit tydens groter verliese te doen. Bad things happen to us, we loose someone we love the most, often due to death, but there can be other reasons and then often we tend to blame God for allowing this to happen and turn away from Him, rejecting His promise to love us without conditions. Once you have accepted Jesus as your Saviour and endeavour to carry out His will for you things

God is all powerful and wants each of us to be happy, yet He knows there will be times or trouble for each of us and if we rely on His promise to us we will overcome all these times. For some of us it might take a very long time, yet for others it will seem short. We need to trust God more and more each day especially when we are having doubt and troubles. We need to give Him thanks for each day we have to change our lives. But above all we need to love others and forgive them, rebuild our relationships with those we have rejected, because in doing this we will be following Jesus’ example. Yet, we are fearful of the consequences, afraid to be happy, because we judge too easily. Re-examine your relationships with others, yes there will be things that you dislike about them, but often you will find the happiness you seek. But above all you need to build your relationship with God. Blessings.

Ds Adriaan is veel meer van ‘n taalkundige as ek, maar Afrikaans is darem die taal waarin ek ook saans vir my vrou nagsê. Ek kan gevolglik nie saamstem met die redakteur se opmerking dat “albei” ‘n beter woord as “beide” is nie. Volgens die Etomologiewoordeboek van Van Wyk et al, is hulle sinonieme. “Albei” kom uit verouderde Nederlands (1630) as ‘n verkorting van “allebei” vir die toutologiese “alle beide” van Middelnederlands, wat “altwee” beteken. Om dus “beide” deur te trek na “both” om hom ongewens te verklaar, sal “albei” ewe-eens ongewens verklaar! My oorlede joernalisvriend, Hannes Cilliers, het ‘n woord hiervoor gehad — “skoolvos” — iemand wat glo dat daar net een korrekte manier is. Volgens Hannes was Hiemstra van woordeboekfaam die grootste vos van almal! Dan is daar ‘n vorm van Afrikaans wat Leon van den Berg, voormalige taalredakteur van die

We mean the right to make our own decisions, with our own selves in mind, and the right to not have to explain for our existence outside a man’s dominion. Me Desiree van der Walt is as een van drie ondervoorsitters van die party se federale bestuur gekies en vorm saam met die voorsitter (mnr Atholl Trollip) en die partyleier (mnr Mmusi Maimane) die DAbestuurspiramide se punt. Van der Walt, van Tzaneen, is die eerste persoon uit die provinsie wat in so ‘n hoë pos in die partystruktuur dien. “Dit sal baie help om perspektief te gee aan omstandighede in die provinsie,” sê sy. Van der Walt sê Limpopo is nie ‘n maklike provinsie nie, veral vanweë die uitgestrekte landelike gebiede. “In ‘n landelike omgewing het ‘n mens ander strategieë nodig en as iemand nog nie in ‘n landelike omgewing gewerk het nie, is dit nie maklik om leiding te
gee nie.” Sy beskou haar ervaring in Limpopo se landelike gebiede as ‘n groot voordeel om die party se veldwerkers en “voetsoldate” te help en by te taan. Van der Walt wil fokus op wat in die provinsie gedoen moet word. Sy glo haar posisie in die federale raad van die party bring hoop vir die DA se ondersteuners in die provinsie, want hulle het nou ‘n direkte skakel (kanaal) na die party se hoofbestuur. “Dit is tog logies dat dit die party nader aan die mense bring. Ek is ook baie trots dat iemand van Limpopo en van Tzaneen waar ek woon, verkies is — en des te meer ook dat dit ‘n vrou is. Dit is ‘n deurbraak,” sê sy. Van der Walt beklemtoon dat die party nou besig is om dinge in plek te kry vir die pylvak in die naelloop na volgende jaar se munisipale verkiesings. Die tyd raak min en daar gaan hard gewerk word, sê sy.

Khujwana awards best learners

Ek kommunikeer dus ook skriftelik met elke kliënt en alle poliskontrakte, polisbewoording en ooreenkomste word op skrif gestel.

Vang muggies • Vervolg van bl 6 anglisisme geskree. Streng gesproke moet woorde soos “hand”, “pen” en “water” dan ook anglisismes wees, want hulle lyk op ‘n haar na soos hul Engelse ekwivalente! Intussen begin mense ‘n taal praat wat soos Afrikaans klink, maar dit glad nie is nie. Ons “deel” met mekaar en met “besighede” en ons maak “offers” vir iets wat iemand te koop aanbied. Dis pynlik dat mense iets as “pynvol” ervaar! Miskien kan ‘n mens die gewone mens nog verskoon, maar die veronderstelde vaandeldraers van die taal doen lustig mee. Onlangs sê die Afrikaanse radiostasie RSG (of is dit draadloos?), “Al wat Coenie Oosthuizen na Saterdag se wedstryd oorgehou het, is een groot swart oog.” Perfekte Afrikaanse woorde, maar die betekenis van “black eye” het in die vertaling verlore gegaan. Op dieselfde dag praat Beeld in ‘n hoofberig van “StatistiekE Suid-Afrika”, daardie arm van die regering wat hom met statistiek besig hou. Op hierdie trant het Afrikaans eintlik niks te vrees van Dr Blade Nzimande of die beweerde ANC-aanslag op Afrikaans nie – ons is heeltemal daartoe in staat om hom self te vernietig! So, kom ons stop die alewige muggie-afvangery oor beweerde anglisismes en spits ons eerder toe op die klein jakkalsies in eie geledere. • Baie dankie vir u kommentaar. Dit is lekker dat gesonde debat gevoer kan word, oor ‘n saak wat duidelik almal wat tyd maak om aan die debat deel te neem, na aan die hart lê. Van ons kant (aangesien ons die debat [skoorsoek] begin het) nog iets, bondig aangebied — want ons ruimte is beperk. 1. ‘n Veeltalige omgewing (land) soos SuidAfrika vereis ‘n ander soort taaldebat as ‘n land soos England of Duitsland of Frankryk, wat hoofsaaklik eentalig is (laasgenoemde wat deur die Hugenote ‘n bepaalde invloed op Afrikaans gehad het). Word ‘n taal in ‘n onvriendelike omgewing dan nog stief behandel deur die owerheid, soebat dit des te meer om met deernis en erns bewaar te word. Dit probeer ons by die Bulletin doen, beskeie en onvolkome, maar met deernis en erns; 2. ‘n Joernalis is ook ‘n beroepskommunikator wat sy taal funksioneel, korrek en suiwer behoort te gebruik, as hy daagliks deur die oerwoud van taalprobleme moet worstel; 3. Daar moet onses insiens ‘n standaard vir ‘n taal wees; norme waardeur ‘n mens kan werk — riglyne waarvolgens vorme wat die taal in sy kern aantas, geweer kan word, sodat hy gesond

U is korrek dat “beide” en “albei” gelyke bestaansreg het. Die verkeerde gebruik saam met “beide” en die klaarblyklike invloed van “both” het daartoe gelei dat die Taalkommissie dekades gelede al besluit het “albei” is die voorkeurwoord (Lidia de Wet noem dit die kolskoot-woord). Dit het dus die standaardwoord geword. Beide van hulle (both of them) en verskeie ander kombinasie-konstruksies het byvoorbeeld hulle albei of sowel as verdring. Engels het nie die verkeerde gebruik van “beide” veroorsaak nie, maar het dit bestendig; 6. Ek kan nie namens mnr Beukes (op wie ds Van Tonder gereageer het) praat nie. Maar na aanleiding van sy bydrae: Woordversamelaars (leksiograwe) vergaar woorde wat deur die sprekers van die taal gebruik word en dit word byna sitosito in woordeboeke aangeteken. ‘n Mens vind dus in woordeboeke woorde wat hoogdrawend en lomp (en vreemd as direkte vertalings) is, terwyl daar ook dikwels twee (of selfs meer) woorde met dieselfde betekenis gevind word. Dit is dan dat die eenvoudige, meer verstaanbare Afrikaans gekies behoort te word — die kolskootwoorde waarna De Wet verwys. Sy bied dan ook voorbeelde en sê in Verstaanbare Afrikaans — Kolskoot-Taaloplossings “die gebruik van ‘populasie’, ‘diskussie’ en ‘preskripsie’ is korrekte Afrikaans en word in woordeboeke aangegee, maar mens kry nie daardie lekker ‘Kolskoot!’gevoel as jy dit hoor nie”. Die kolskoot-woorde is ‘bevolking’, ‘bespreking’ en ‘voorskrif’. Sy brei uit: “In verstaanbare Afrikaans word die alledaagse verstaanbare woord, meestal van Germaanse afkoms, byvoorbeeld ‘geesdrif’, bo die vreemdklinkende, hoogdrawende woord soos
‘entoesiasme’ verkies, hoewel ‘entoesiasme’ ook korrek is.” 7. Dit is jammer dat tyd en ruimte ons beperk — wat verhinder dat ‘n mens dieper kan delf en ook kan gesels oor ‘n taalbul soos wyle Hannes Cilliers (saam met wie die skrywer baie nagte om koerante se subtafels deurgebring het). Hy mag die skepper gewees het van die term “Taalvos”, maar hy kon nogal ook oor “klein” taalkwessies moeilik geraak het. Vra enigiemand wat saam met hom gewerk het, hoe moeilik hy kon raak oor die suinigheid met die lidwoord “die” (die Laerskool Platkloof in plaas van Laerskool Platkloof). Ongelukkig ontbreek ons aan waardering vir Leon van den Berg se uiting, wat sinloos kras is. 8. Dit is nie duidelik na wie u oor die afvang van muggies verwys nie — maar die skoen pas nie, want ons is so besig om dit wat daagliks aan ons opgedis word in mediaverklarings en ander “persmateriaal” te probeer “red” dat ons nie tyd het om muggies af te vang nie. Ons moet ryk met ruik vervang, onder andere na onder meer (waar van toepassing) verander, differente na verskillende, boek rak na boekrak (een woord), President na president (van die klub) en dan moet ons ook die leestekens red: winskoop!!!! na winskoop! (een uitroepteken,,,, om dieselfde rede dat niemand tog soveel kommas in ‘n sin sal gebruik nie), of wie hou dan van politici???? na wie hou dan van politici?, om nie te praat nie van hoe ons sukkel met die werkwoord wat so in die middel van die sin gebruik word, as dit duidelik aan die einde moet (en kan) staan, die misbruik van hoofletters en so (baie) meer. 9. Oor Zoeloeïsmes (en ander -ismes) dink ons die “veeltalige land” (paragraaf 1) is hier ter sprake. Met babbelas kan omtrent net die woord wingerdgriep meeding om ‘n plek in Afrikaans, en ons dink nie babbelas word gebruik om deftig te klink of ‘n praktiese, goeie Afrikaanse woord te verdring nie. Ons debat het begin oor Afrikaanssprekers wat lui is vir en onverskillig staan teenoor die taal, en die onnodige gebruik van -ismes (en hier en daar selfs leenwoorde). — Redakteur

The criminal case of theft of a helicopter against Mr Conrad Krüger, a Tzaneen lawyer, will resume in the Alexandra magistrate’s court on Thursday (28 May). This was confirmed by the Clerk of the court, Ms Tiro Tsoai, yesterday. Krüger appeared in the court (for the second time) on 5 May, but the case was remanded untill 28 May. He was arrested by the Germiston Organized Crime Unit in Midrand on 7 April for allegedly stealing a helicopter worth R15 million. Krüger was granted bail of R25 000. According to information obtained from the Hawk’s spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, Kruger allegedly sold his aircraft worth R15-million to Mr Rayaan Hassim (the complainant) for an undisclosed amount. A fifteen-year-old boy was arrested late last week for the brutal killing of a seventeen-year-old boy at Mogapeng Village Maake. The boy allegedly attacked seventeen-year-old Ramathetsa Mangena on his way from school. He reportedly produced a sharp instrument and stabbed Mangena in the chest without saying anything and then ran away. Mangena was taken to Dr CN Phatudi Hospital for medical treatment, but was certified dead on arrival. The motive behind the killing is unknown. Police investigations are underway. Both the deceased and the suspect are learners at a local high school. The suspect will appear in the Naphuno Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder.

Zanis gymnasts shine at Novice Competition
Zanis Gymnastics won the Team Trophies Zanis Gymnastics once again received full honours, by claiming the most team for the following age groups: Level 1 u.7, trophies and the most top gymnasts. Letaba 1 en die klub se tweede span het Saterdag in Polokwane kragte gemeet met die Black Panthers, en albei spanne het oortuigend gewen.
