The new Great Outdoors Waterpark, a voter-approved transformation and expansion of the LaMont Does Outdoor Pool, features an exposed timber-frame architectural style and brings a mountain resort feel to Lafayette. The most notable and visible amenity is the 21 foot high, double-trouble flagship slide! These two colorful slide tubes weave together to take aquatic explorers on a high-speed, exhilarating trip into splashy run outs. The two-story Grand Eagle Dump Bucket playfully spills water on visitors every few minutes, and perches high atop the fully accessible, zero-depth-entry leisure pool. This interactive play area features frisky trout, a colorful flower water garden, and an exciting padded log slide.

The 4,000 square foot bathhouse includes changing areas, inclusive changing rooms, and free lockers. Your crew can cool down and fuel up with a tasty treat from the concession stand and enjoy seating and picnic tables outfitted with shady umbrellas. A secured spot can be reserved by renting a cabana for the day or half-day.

One of the most important responsibilities of the new City Council is establishing our guiding goals and priorities. At a public goal setting session in January, Councilors defined a visionary set of goals to address many of the challenges we face as a community. While these are not our only priorities, this list defines the main areas that require emphasis, investment, and focus to improve our community. For me, this is a great opportunity to advocate for issues that I believe are important in our community, and to listen to other perspectives and priorities. Lafayette is currently challenged by many issues including population growth, transportation needs, rising costs, development, and threats to our environment and quality of life. Although we have experienced a remarkable period of prosperity and social progress, we must ensure that our economic growth as well as our long-term planning can enable us to become inclusive, affordable, healthy, and sustainable. Based on the top priorities proposed and voted on by the City Council, there is a notable emphasis on economic, social and environmental sustainability. As our community deals with new challenges related to population growth, housing, transportation, and the pressure to develop our last remaining land, Council identified the review and revision of the Lafayette Comprehensive Plan – the document that defines the public policy for land use, housing, transportation, and development – as its top priority. Council also advanced several priorities to attain our goals for environmental sustainability, waste reduction, and efficient use of our energy and resources. These include working towards significant waste reduction goals, creating a waste diversion plan, and incentives for solar energy, electric vehicles, and building practices. Housing needs and the availability of affordable housing are also topics of utmost concern for Council. To achieve many of our sustainability ambitions, it is important that residents and workers be able to afford to live in our community. This aspiration may require building code revisions, setting an affordable housing goal, and modification of the planning and approval processes for development and re-development.

In addition to achieving a SolSmart GOLD Award, Lafayette has been presented with a Special Recognition Award which celebrates communities that have gone above and beyond – earning at least 60% of the total points available in categories such as Permitting; Planning, Zoning and Development; Inspection; Construction Codes; Solar Rights; Utility Engagement; Community Engagement; and Marketing, Development and Finance. Road Strategic Corridor Plan
In February, the City appointed 17 residents and Old Town business owners to the Friends of Public Road Working Group from a pool of 28 applications. These participants will provide input on the development of a corridor plan intended to

Oil and gas development is an activity regulated at the state level. Existing state law – solidified by Colorado Supreme Court decisions – prohibits bans on new oil and gas operation permits. City Council is committed to exploring many alternative fronts to address pending applications and exercise the City’s limited authority.
