It has been easy to break away from the closely guarded routine of a joint family sometimes under the compulsion of job hunting and at other aura of female outsiders in the family simply don’t find each other mutually compatible…each striving hard to get away from the clutches of the other. Although this new kind of life of an independent nucleus experienced many material conveniences at their doorsteps it kept lacking in the strong emotional foundation which is a prerequisite for continuing as a balanced

psyche. So I too kept trying to look for the small town pleasure if that could be replicated in my city. It was then suddenly one fine day we ran into Pandit Ji chaatwala alias Pandeyji who traversed 10 – 15 km daily all across the up market streets of Ghaziabad to sell his gole gappey and aalu tikki door to door to the salivating housewife and children and hungry and deserving laborers at noon. The purity of all his concoction had addictiveness and it was hard for us to resist the temptation of getting a bit indulgent. If we were not at home there was always the take away option for us.

I knew that I need to know this cheapest mode of transport for as a grownup boy I was expected to meticulously manage my meager pocket money. I was cruising past the rural road into the city to buy some medicine that my Babaji had written on a bit of paper. Suddenly there was extreme pandemonium in the market place near kotwaali chauraha of historical city of Jaunpur which reached its pinnacle during the medieval rule of Shershah the Afgan and Sharqi Sultans. The recoil effect of operation Blue Star was goading whole of Sikh commune into extreme distress. Rumors went rife that a faction of Sikh regiment have decided to rebel against the desecration of Swaran Mandir. Every shop was downing their shutters. Miffed with all that was happening I paddled out of the city once again into the safe confines of lush green farmland below and a very clear unpolluted blue sky above.

The web of thought was broken by the prerecorded announcement that said ‘…next station Noida City Center… doors will open on the right ...’ and ‘the train terminates here…’ I patted on the rosy cheeks of my beautiful soul mate who was resting her head on my shoulder with her shining long hair spread all across me. She woke up from the quick siesta that she was having after a day out at Sarojini Nagar market. We walked with hand clasped in each other’s hand out from the metro train down the escalator stalked all over with big shopping bags.

ARCHANA SHUKLA SINGER AND PERFORMER Archana started her journey when she was chosen as one of the contestants in the reality show ‘IDIA Pride of UP’, which is aired on Sahara TV. The contest is named for the few notes of the standard octave in Indian classical music. She emerged as one of the strongest contenders for the title and was placed in top 14 by the public voting amongst the 37 contestants from India. In the show, she has given outstanding pieces in the show like ‘Rangeela Maro Dholna’, ‘Taare Hain Barati’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ etc. for which she got highest rating and standing ovation from all the four judges.

Archana is a classical trained singer and comes from a musical background. She also holds prabhakar in vocal from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. She learns music from Devashish Day, Sukalpa Mukherjee (Varanasi), Gautam Mukherjee (Mumbai). Besides various shows in many TV channels and playback for daily soaps under her hat, she is currently doing a project with Music Director Nayab Raja.

Thirty years on, Jackie Shroff will now witness his son Tiger making his much-anticipated debut in Sajid Nadiadwala's film titled Heropanti. And we can't miss the striking resemblance of the titles.

This news comes after many months of speculation over whether it would be Aamir Khan or Subhash Ghai who would launch Jackie Shroff's son. Looks like Sajid Nadiaidwala finally taken over. Sabbir Khan (of Kambakth Ishq fame), who will be directing Tiger's debut film confirmed the news. He said, "Yes, the title is Heropanti and the title came from the character of the boy that Tiger plays. The character is little above the ordinary. In normal life, we all follow the set norms and rules.

We do not move out of the box but Tiger is someone who is flamboyant and does what he wants to."

Sabbir Khan added, "Also the fact is that he is Jaggudada's son and we could not have got a more apt title. It was a title that Sajidbhai and I came up with. We are still finalizing the female lead and will start the film next month."

Ace Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's second daughter, Shaheen Bhatt, has already entered the tinsel town. She was busy assisting director Vikram Bhatt on his â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Raaz 3â&#x20AC;&#x2122; project. Mahesh announced about the debut of his daughter in the world of Bollywood on microblogging site. Junaid, Aamir Khan's son from his marriage with Reena Dutta is all set to enter Bollywood. But no, he will be working behind the scenes. He will be the first assistant director for his father flick Peekay.

Contrary to reports that Nana Patekar's son Malhar is being launched as an actor in Ram Gopal Varma's proposed film on the 26/11 attacks, the young Patekar has decided to give up his acting aspirations, at least for now. Two months ago, Ramu had offered Malhar a chance to make his acting debut in the sequel to Ab Tak Chappan, which Nana is directing. But Nana vetoed the idea. Malhar will now be assisting Ramu in the direction of his film based on the 26/11 attacks.

A close friend of Malhar says, "He's very shy and until very recently, had been unsure of what he wanted to do with his life. He doesn't even like to be photographed, so I don't know if he ever thought of facing the camera. Malhar has always been interested in cinema but until some years ago, he couldn't muster the courage to tell his father that he wanted to be part of the industry."

DIRECTOR vs. LIFE Being a producer-director-writer and more than just a creator, I wanted to start with the entertainment industry, in a profession where I could interact with other professionals on a day-today basis. My profession has made me realize the amount of hard work that goes into a creator’s life. So many directors are desperately waiting to get a day off but the pressures of a making effective cinema just do not allow.

Sundays, holidays, and festivals come and go but director continue to work! And what’s more? Such are the hours that at times a director is shooting for 12-14 hours a day, and many times require 28-30 days of shoot a month, leaving him/her with no time to really enjoy life from their hard-earned money. A director’s life at times becomes secluded and confined within the script and production.

Sometimes making calls and going online during breaks to catch up on emails and social networking websites and India film-forums to interact with other professionals is what is

considered a break. Unlike a normal job, you are not guaranteed vacation days, sick leaves etc.

After producing-directing films for last 15 years, this time Navagraha Cine Arts is coming up with a suspense, thriller and action film ‘Mr. X’ with some new and established actors and technicians. A director faces challenge not only with the production only but also infuse perfection in new actors. Sometimes, it takes a month to do rehearsals and workshop to make actors performance up to the mark as per requirement of

characters. Finalizing locations and obtaining permission also interrupts to achieve director’s goal to make good film. And that’s what happened before the shoot of Mr. X. In the end, the day comes when you’re in a fix to release the film in theatres with full risk and insecurities that come across along with feedback from audiences. And hey, what about those critics and distributors? And finally, will it turn out to be a profit making project or not? >>>

Nature in its purest pristine form, sometimes raw, never ugly. If “explore” is your favorite term, it is for you. And did we say we were going out of city? We were not on earth, it’s heavenly, most divine! My article is dedicated to Bipin, Sunil and Chetan who could not join us for the trip. We missed you. There was a lot that everyone would share with you.

This place is one of the most exotic creation of nature, made with fog, fountains n greenery, sprinkled with pine trees. The team stayed in resort called Fairydale with old style cottages built in 1912. Truly, it was living a 'fairytale'. We wanted to click and describe every inch. I saw blackbirds and sparrows that are extinct in cities (and I discovered blackbirds have a very short flight span and they believe in hopping).

The thing about dreams, a friend once told me, is that they seldom come true, even when they do, they never do in the way that you dreamt them. This, then, makes those 3 days I spent with the team in Uttarakhand twice as special.

Not only were they the culmination of an old dream, but what I saw was precisely what I had seen in my dreams. Numerous writers and poets have sang of mountains, glens, forests, lakes, mist and rain, and perhaps above all, a deep and quiet solitude. >>>

<<< The mountains were every centimetre, every tuft of grass, of droplet of shimmering water as the poets described. Furthermore, there were the steel-grey and silver-white clouds that floated through us being on top of the hills, casting great, shifting shadows on cliff-sides, and at times, almost enveloped us in a cool, somewhat moist embrace.

Glorious as heaven itself must be, I have always thought the gates of heaven must be its crowning glory. That at least is true of Lansdowne, as you reach Kotdwar and find the sky measured out in grey and blue. It's a small and beautiful little place which very few people travel to. We left Delhi late night, all geared up, and arrived at the Kotdwar at around 6 in the morning. We learnt something special about the city station. There, the Kotdwar coach of the Mussoorie Express is one of two important trains that terminate in Kotdwar. Almost like a daily ritual, the station, which is otherwise very quiet comes alive when these trains arrive. The first thing that you cannot help but notice are the coolies here, men of all ages and build, politely offering their services. Shared/private jeeps can be taken from right outside the Kotdwar station for the 90 minutes drive to Lansdowne.

The road to Lansdowne, like the place it leads to is straight out of a painting, meandering gently along a river, almost imploring you to get down and take a walk. It was in the Tempo Traveller that we had taken that I saw, for the first time, the flat plains that characterize much of India begin to give way to small mounds - then to small hills, and finally, to peaks in the grey distance. As the ground began to undulate, and the first tiny mountain dwellings came into view, I realized, with a quickening beat of the heart, that I was finally entering the mountains.

And then I saw, from the windows that looked east, the sun coming up from behind the hills, surrounded by a veil of translucent clouds, painting the trees yellow. The soul-intoxicating morning light, the clouds so near that you felt as though you could touch them, and the backdrop of mountains, forests - these things were to epitomize the days spent in Uttarakhand. >>>

<<< We took regular halts and reached Lansdowne at around 1 noon, the arrival much delayed than expected due to heavy rain. We realized immediately that we were in a quiet and very beautiful town bombarded with rain drops. We took the vehicle to Fairydale Resort (where we were to stay), some 2 kilometers away from the city center. We waited for the lunch to be served giving us enough time to walk around the nearby vicinity, still trying to come to terms with how quiet most of the areas were post that welcome rain, indeed too quiet till we showed our excitement with camera clicks and yelling. The lunch served was delicious. We were tired and soaked. The cottages were warm and comfortable enough to give a pause to our activities, but till the sunlight gave up and the stars took over. A well lit Bonfire, with food and drinks made a perfect scene to connect with each other on a personal front. Lansdowne, by night, was almost like a picture-book.

Fluorescent light of the street-lamps mingled with the steel-grey twilit sky to create something that I do not quite have words to describe.

The morning brought a different kind of beauty altogether. We woke up with no plans but to let our feet carry us where they would. The army museum was the first place we visited. The officers on duty were a friendly lot and showed us around, at various points stopping in front of us various artifacts to narrate their history. We left our laptop bags to their care and decided to walk around.

A short walk brought us to the 'Snow View Point' where we spent next hour soaking in the sights and the silence the place offered. After collecting our bags from the museum, we decided to walk down to Lansdowne. I will be exaggerating if I saw that this was one of the most memorable walks of my life, but not by much. The cool breeze, blew quietly at first, then the heavenly clouds, drawing answers from the yellowing leaves. We walked for almost an hour without meeting a single person, often hearing the sound of what we assumed was a truck and turning around to realize that it was only the wind. Words will not do justice to how surreal the experience was, so I'll leave it to some of these pictures..

A passing vehicle offered us a lift and we soon found ourselves in the same chowk where we had been the previous day. Lansdowne being an extremely small place, any walk around town is a sightseeing experience in itself. Also, the people are extremely helpful, and it is not uncommon for a local to accompany you to a place if you ask him for directions. We were directed to one of Lansdowne's celebrated places - Bhulla Taal. 'Bhulla' is the local word for 'brother'. >>>

<<< A short climb would have led us to the Santoshi Mata temple, but it was getting late and we decided to walk back to the chowk. We decided to leave the town and drive up to the much celebrated 'Tarakeshwar Temple', some 38kms away from Lansdowne. We left the town behind soon enough, but didn't get enough time to capture the beauty of that place. Only when we surfed the net we realized what we had missed. Tarakeshwar, was unlike any other temple we had seen before. The temple is surrounded by a grove of huge Deodar trees which is strange because Deodars normally grow at much higher altitudes. Our hearts knew we wished to venture in the midst of the oasis of tranquility that place is.

KOMAL JHA Her journey from being a hardcore civil engineer to the lead actress in an upcoming Telugu feature film to be screened at Cannes was not a child’s play. The Mumbai based modelactress Komal Jha reckons that the foundation of success was laid long time ago. In her heart - to - heart chat with Chetan Sharma, she talks about how she surpassed the hurdles with her confidence and talent.

C: My first question for you. Who is Komal Jha?

C: Can you tell us about your experience?

C: At a young age of 23, don’t you think you have put your career at risk by changing your profession? Any catch?

C: And your next venture…

K: (smiles) To start with, my hometown is Ranchi, Jharkhand. I did my schooling from D.A.V. and completed my civil engineering from Bengaluru. Then I took one of the prominent decisions to change my profession and become a model. And here I am. Komal Jha, a model, an actress…

K: Oh.. you asked me this quite early! But let me be very candid. I know I had chosen to be a model over civil engineering. And that was indeed a tough decision. I was a hardcore ‘book-worm ‘when it came to studies and was a topper of my batch. I had even foreseen a bumpy ride ahead of me for such a decision couldn’t be supported by my family. Yet it was my fate, my destiny. I chose it.

And I’m glad I did. Besides I am 5’7” (laughs).

C: What do you do when you don’t do what you have to do?

K: A simple answer to your twisted question. My favorite past time is reading and writing. It’s in my blood.

C: In your blood?

K: My father Dr. Shyma Nand Jha is a great writer and philosopher.

He is my greatest inspiration.

K: I had worked in Dubai as a civil engineer. However, one of the highest points in my life came when I entered into the world of fashion. From there, I got my first movie break in 2010 Malayalam action thriller “24 Hrs.”. Then I worked for movies like Kaal Chakram and Rama-chari besides many album videos.

K: Mukta Arts.. Yes. The movie named Nimbe Huli (means sore lemon) directed by Hemant Hegde for producer Subash Ghai.

C: Like many, do you have a godfather?

K: It’s me, myself and I. I want to dedicate my success to myself. I own it and have earned it. There were times when my family was against my decision of being an actress since I belong to an intellectual and learned family. They had wanted me to continue my engineering career. I pat on my back.. Lolz!

Those not-so-wise people, as I call them (smiles), ask me for my advice. That one moment of satisfaction is worth all hardships I went through to reach at this level. Besides, I am more comfortable working with South Indians as they are more professional.

The craziest thing you’ve ever done…

K: Hmm! Well since I told you I was the topper of my batch, so what was expected out of me to be a role model for juniors and portray executive presence. I used to hate that and my lady teacher.

She was after my life for my bold dressing sense. I mean, come on, being yourself ain’t a crime. So I rebelled against her in front of my principal. Crazy enough (burst into laughter)...

K: My diary and my pen, dearest to me. I carry them even on my shoots. These days I love to flaunt my Galaxy Note.

C: Any recent plans for marriage? And will it be arranged or love?

K: No. At least not for a decade!

Though I have covered a long distance in this short span of time but I still have a long journey ahead. And itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s gonna be arranged. (laughs) I am single and happy.

C: Your favorite destination K: Venice, Greece

C: One advice you want to give to freshers?

K: Be yourself. Believe yourself.

Date

You're the only person outside of your date's family who is intimate. He or she has no other friends (unless they're also at the same workplace). He or she puts aside everything in favor of work, including you. Every time you contact your date, he or she is "still working", no matter what the hour. Your date seems to have a poor perception of time. Even important events such as a family birthday are not enough to convince your date to drop working. Your date answers the phone, checks and sends emails, or makes orders for new supplies all the way through a date.

There are those of us who cringe at the idea of working weekends, and there are those who thrive in it.

When the two worlds collide, the dating can be rocky, with both parties feeling dissatisfied.

Determine if your date is a workaholic. We mention some telltale signs and information that can help you â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;surviveâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;...

Workaholic Try to be understanding before jumping to negative conclusions. It can be really frustrating when your date is never available to attend the same functions and activities as you but it is important to try and understand the drive, passion, and importance of work for your date. Learning why work is so important to your date can increase your own understanding and appreciation of the needs behind working so hard. Consider the possible reasons behind what you're seeing as workaholism. The job matters a great deal to your date. It is a passion, especially if it is your date's own business or something that he or she wanted to do all of his or her life. There is a current heavy workload and your date is conscientious at doing his or her part to meet deadlines and workloads. The job comes with long hours, including nights and weekends. If your date accepts this, it is important for you to learn to accept it too. It has become a habit well before you came along, and it's tough to break it.

Talk to your date about his or her work life. Find out all that you can about what inspires and drives your date at work. Perhaps understanding this better will help you to cut them some slack. Although all of these are indicators that your date may be permanently busy, they can arouse some sympathy in you. It's a business start-up (always a very hard time of life). Your date is seeking a promotion and the only real way to be considered for it is to be seen working hard all of the time. Look to your own beliefs and attitude about working.

Ask yourself what your own attitude to work is to see whether you're making more of the matter than it deserves, or perhaps confusing ambition with workaholism. If you don't think it's a good idea to do more than the bare minimum at work, or you're someone who has a job that doesn't bleed beyond set hours, you might have a very different mindset from your date about the level of dedication to work. On the other hand, if you're a reformed workaholic, or someone who believes deeply in a work-life balance, what you're observing may already be a good indicator of warning signs for your relationship's prospects. It can help to see some of the benefits of dating a workaholic: You get a lot of time to yourself to pursue your own interests without having your date breathing down your neck all the time. Your love life might be better and healthier than you expect â&#x20AC;&#x201C; research undertaken by psychology professor Jonathon Schwartz showed that sexual satisfaction scored the highest for women dating or married to workaholics. You won't end up feeling suffocated by a date who is needy, compliant, or dull.

Talk to your date about how their workaholism makes you feel. This is the point at which you might be able to reach a compromise. If so, great! Or, it might be the time when you realize that your workaholic date is taking the workaholism too far and won't ever really fit you in.

Tell your date how it feels to play second fiddle to his or her job and provide some factual examples of times when your date's work has interfered with your dating life together. Explain that you fully understand his or her passion for the job but that you want some balance so that the two of you also have quality time together.

Avoid laying blame. Just state the facts and how the merry-go-round of never being sure whether or not your date is available is affecting you personally. It is important to remember that "for workaholics, all the eggs of self-esteem are in the basket of work", so criticizing their work decisions won't endear you to your date. Explain how you would like things to be, and in doing so, be realistic. Asking for a little more time together is reasonable but asking for your date to get a new job is not!

Agree on some ground rules. If you feel that your date has responded well to your talk, suggest that the two of you make some ground rules, or compromises, to ensure the health of your dating life. While you will probably not get the extent of agreement to more time together that you're looking for, go into this negotiation in good faith, expecting to lower some of your own expectations as well if you're prepared to make this work. Ask that your date turn off his or her phone during a date unless it is an extreme emergency. Ask for no texting or emailing during the date. Consider having certain nights set aside for just the two of you minus work. Perhaps Saturday or Sunday night is a good night for both of you to touch base, eat together and watch a movie. Try to make this a regular date night. Consider meeting up for lunch once a week. If you're prepared to compromise, make the lunch date near your date's place of work to encourage him or her to see this as an easy thing to do. If your date accepts that there is probably an over-reliance of spending more time at work than putting into place more effective work practices and is willing to look at the possibilities, consider if you can help with any suggestions for improving work/life balance. Avoid nagging, pleading, or whining at this point. It won't make any difference but it will make you appear petty and clingy. If your date is non-committal or refuses to discuss the issues, start thinking seriously about where this relationship is headed.

Nothing ever changes. It feels like a treadmill that goes around and around and that your date will never get off it, no matter what. You can't help but feel that your date has a poor sense of prioritization, lacks the ability to plan properly, or is simply throwing hours at work problems instead of finding creative and sustainable solutions.

Look for the warning signs when dating again. If you get out of a relationship with a workaholic because of the workaholism, always keep the signs in mind for future potential dates. It is probably a good idea not to get into a new relationship with somebody who: Makes dates with you but keeps canceling them at the last minute. Says that he or she will make time for you but never manages to do so. Talks about work non-stop, including telling you that the business is going through rough times, or has a lot of work to get through, etc.

Behaves as if he or she is indispensable when you discuss work. You're left waiting ages, more than once, for an arranged date together.

If, after talking it through, you feel that continuing to date your workaholic date isn't going to work out, cut your losses now. If you feel the following experiences apply to you, it's probable that your dating relationship is doomed: You haven't got it within you to keep being patient with the work excuses. Your date doesn't want to reach any compromises under the previous step. You feel that your date is never fully attentive to you when you are together, that there is always one ear to the phone, thoughts about work going through his or her head even as you converse. You are

forget a person’s name is that we see the person before we know the person’s name. Knowing the name first gives you an anchor that you can use later to associate with the person’s face. This isn’t always practical, but as I’ll point out later, it’s definitely a useful strategy in many situations.

e know it’s bad to forget names of new people, but looking at the flip side, we also know how much it means when we are able to call people by name the next time we see them. Whether it’s five minutes or five years later, that remembered name will make you seem (and feel) like someone who really cares about others.

Finally, let’s look at an experiment conducted at Tokyo Gakugei University in Koganei, Japan by Takahiro Sekiguchi (2011) which shows the tricks used by people good at face memory. Participants were hooked up to an eye movement tracker while they looked at new faces.

Name memory wasn’t actually measured in this study, but the findings shed light on what people with good face memory actually do. Those participants with the best face memory, when looking at the faces they would be tested on, fixated most of their attention on the eye region. They did not look significantly at any other part of the face, including the nose, mouth, chin, hair, cheeks, ears, or even forehead. To remember a face, you need to look right at the person’s eyes.

Some people seem to be born with this ability to associate a face and name. You may watch them with awe and envy, never dreaming that you could be one of these people too. They are probably also the same people who can watch a TV show or movie and recite not only the names but the previous roles of the actors, from minor characters to leading men and women. With the tips you’ll learn shortly, you’ll be well on your way to becoming one of these face memory champs. Great name memories can be made, if not born.

Interestingly, our ability to distinguish faces is much better than our ability to name those faces. Researchers estimate that we are all “face experts” who can distinguish hundreds, if not thousands, of faces we see over a lifetime. The trick is associating those many, many faces with the names that belong to them.

Before getting to those 6 foolproof name memory tips, let’s see what we can learn from a few recent studies.

First, we’ll look at the role of the face itself vs. the context in which you see a face. You may think that it’s a good idea to help your face memory by looking at a person’s hair, ears, or neck and shoulders. However, British psychologist Charlie D. Frowd and colleagues (2012) found that focusing on these external cues was a bad idea. They investigated face memory using a software program that either highlighted, altered, or removed completely the external cues such as hair and even ears.

The software is used in providing composite pictures of potential suspects in an eyewitness situation. In a series of experiments, Frowd and his team showed definitively that people are most likely to remember faces when they do not look at those external cues. The best recognition occurred when people saw the faces without the distraction of the surrounding information.

In the second experiment, conducted by University of Victoria neuroscientists Iris Gordon and James Tanaka (2011), participants looked at faces and names while hooked up to a brain scan that measured the brain’s electrical response to stimuli. The question they investigated pertains to the timing of our acquisition of faces and names. To make a very complex story short, Gordon and Tanaka concluded that one of the reasons we

Now let’s put these studies together with some other facts about memory for our six face memory tips.

Everyone would like to be able to remember the names of people we meet, especially people we meet in new social situations. Some of these situations are purely for enjoyment, and others have higher stakes. You’re being interviewed for a new job, for example, and as soon as you’re introduced to your potential supervisor, the name has flown completely out of your consciousness. Unfortunately, you’ll lose the job prospect as quickly as you’ve lost that name. When it comes to meeting people at parties, or even in casual conversation when introduced by a mutual friend, you also will appear to be a social klutz when you see that person again and must flounder (or fake) knowing the new people’s names.

 Look at the person’s eyes. The face itself, and specifically the eyes, contain the window not just to the soul, but to good face memory. The eyes are a feature of a person least likely to vary over time or under different circumstances. Apart from the aging process, which adds a few wrinkles here and there, people’s eyes don’t really change. By focusing on this non varying piece of anatomy, you’ll be less tricked by changes in hair length or color, clothing (which definitely changes), and even body shape and height (which also change).  Use “deep” processing of information. When you’re trying to learn a word list, for instance, you should not just look at the words, or even think about how they sound. Your best memory will be for those items whose meaning you contemplate. Put those words in a sentence or form your own associations to them, no matter how oddball they may seem. In fact, the more oddball the better. When it comes to faces, this is a trick that memory experts strongly advise. Form associations between a person’s name and that person’s face (particularly the eyes). Think of what the name reminds you of (“Tina” might turn into “tea”), and paste that association onto the person’s face. >>>

SOCIAL ANIMAL <<<  Find out the names ahead of time, when possible.

As the brain scan study showed, people did better at learning names when they saw the names ahead of time. This is very possible to do when you’re going on an interview (assuming you get the schedule first) or to a party where guests have RSVP’d to a public link. It’s no help if you’re meeting someone for the first time with no advance warning, unfortunately. However, since there are many more situations than you might realize that do allow advance prep, you might as well take advantage of this strategy. For example, an instructor should review the list of students on the roster prior to the first class, so at least you’ll have someplace to start.

If the class is small enough. As you take attendance, write little notes to yourself next to each student’s name that will give you a unique image for each one (such as "Jim" looks like he goes to the "gym").  Really listen when you’re introduced to someone new. So often we’re distracted when we meet a new person, we might not even catch the name at all. If you’re at a large party or other social scene, you might not even

 hear the name very clearly. Afterwards, it’s too embarrassing to ask it again (or so you think). If you give yourself an extra second to process that name together with the face, it will increase the odds astronomically that you’ll remember the name and face better. Also, you don’t have to be embarrassed about asking for a person’s name a second time (or even third). This even can enhance your social standing because you’ll look like a person who at least making an effort. If you're lucky, people will have name tags, so add the visual to the auditory cues, and you'll be good to go.  Practice the face-name game at home. Practicing celeb’s names is a low-risk way to enhance your face memory skills. As you’re watching your favorite movies or TV shows at home, go ahead and consult a movie or TV data base, which will allow you to work on forming name-face associations with people whose feelings you can’t possibly hurt.

You can also diagnose your weaknesses with this simple exercise. Perhaps you’re worse at remembering men’s names, or perhaps you look too much at the changing features of a person’s costumes and disguises. You can even work out a scoring system and track your progress as the weeks go by.

 Relax! As I pointed out in an earlier blog post (which reinforces some of the points made here), when you’re stressed, your body’s endocrine system unleashes cortisol through your bloodstream.

Cortisol is a definite killer of all sorts of memories, including (and perhaps especially) the type of memory involved in recalling names. In that interview situation, for example, you may be so focused on how horribly your feeling that in those first few seconds you don’t engage in deep nameface processing. As the interview goes by, your stress levels can increase to dangerous levels, particularly if you start worrying about how you’re going to bid good bye to a person whose name has completely exited your brain. That person will certainly know your name, so if you’re going to make a great impression, you should return the favor. You’ll do that fantastically if you take that one teeny extra second at the beginning to work on deep processing of that person’s name.

The most important key to name memory is to believe that you can do it. If you’ve decided that you’re a hopeless case, your lack of confidence will only make things worse. Build your name memories one person at a time, and pretty soon it’s your friends who will envy your great social skills!

I have loved soups and noodles a lot in so many places but all those tastes are somewhat with a touch of Chinese or Thai type. And then I tried in some Chinese-turned-Punjabi or South Indian restaurants too but nothing beats the taste of our real Indian flavor which is available at road-sides vendors. They use to prepare the food in front of us and I still remember the process of how they do. I decided to give a trial of the same at home.

Last week I tried these two recipes at home and thought worth sharing. I can say for sure that it is almost near to that taste.

Tom “Yum Yum” Soup

Noodles-1 packet | Cabbage-1 cup | Onions-1 | Carrots–1 Capsicum-1/2 | Chillis-2 | Egg-2 (optional for vegetarians) Pepper Powder-2 tsp. | Soya Sauce-2 tsp. | Chili Sauce-2 tsp.

Ginger-2 tsp., finely chopped | Garlic-4 cloves, finely chopped | Oil-3 tsp. | Salt to taste Procedure:Heat water along with salt and bring it to boil. Add noodles to it and let it cook for around 5mins, drain, add 1tsp oil and mix well and keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan add the ginger and garlic and fry for 2 min. Add the onions and sauté till they turn brown. Now add all the cut veggies and sauté them for 5- 10 min till they are little soft. Now take all the veggies to one side of the wok and to the other side break the egg and scramble it and now mix it with the veggies (if you are not adding any egg then no need of this step). Add the noodles, pepper powder, soya sauce, chili sauce and mix well along with the veggies. Fry it for 5 min and serve it with tomato sauce.

Carrots-1, diagonally sliced | Mushrooms-5, quartered | Straw Mushrooms-10-12, quartered | Broccoli-5-6 florets | Red Capsicum-1/2 inch pieces | Lemon Grass-2 stems | Green Chillies-4 Kaffir Lime Leaves-6 | Red Curry Paste-1 tsp. Lemon-1 | Carrot-1, cut into thin strips | Fresh Red Chilli-1, deveined | Salt to taste Procedure:Take four to five cups of water in a deep pan. Crush the lemon grass stems and green chilies and add to the water and bring it to a boil. Add crushed kaffir lime leaves and boil for ten minutes. Strain the stock. Heat another pan, add red curry paste and the strained stock and mix well. Bring it to a boil. Add carrot, mushrooms and straw mushrooms and cook for two minutes. Add salt, broccoli and red capsicum and continue to cook for two to three minutes more. Take the pan off the heat. Squeeze the juice of a lemon into the soup and add lemon skin too and stir well. Remove the lemon skin after a couple of minutes. Serve the soup hot garnished with carrot strips and red chilies.

Tip: For red curry paste grind 10 dried red chilies that have been seeded and soaked along with a large pinch of salt, 1½ tablespoons chopped galangal, 3 tablespoons chopped lemon grass, 2 teaspoons grated kaffir lime rind, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander roots, 1 tablespoon chopped red shallots and 2 tablespoons chopped garlic to a smooth paste. Alternatively you can pound them in a mortar with a pestle. You will get ½ cup of curry paste. For red curry paste grind 10 dried red chilies that have been seeded and soaked along with a large pinch of salt, 1½ tablespoons chopped galangal, 3 tablespoons chopped lemon grass, 2 teaspoons grated kaffir lime rind, 1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander roots, 1 tablespoon chopped red shallots and 2 tablespoons chopped garlic to a smooth paste. Alternatively you can pound them in a mortar with a pestle. You will get ½ cup of curry paste.

World Wet Land Day was celebrated by the two NGOs Gantavaya Sansthan and Vivekananda Talent Development Foundation at Sant Nirankari Sr. Sec. School, Nirankari Colony, Delhi 110009. In the said event, more than 500 students and persons participated. The main event had two sub-events- A painting competition was organized and thereafter a group discussion/talks on 'Wet Lands And You'. In the group discussion, many experts like Dr. S.N. Mishra, Dr. Nirmal Patnaik, Dr. Hemant Pandey and Dr. Arvind Kr Tyagi explained students about the need of wet-lands and how to protect them.
