Information/Introduction

1

This specific information will allow for a quicker and more efficient action on the machinery. - Duplicate copies of this instruction handbook can be obtained by quoting the “serial number” of the machinery. Maintenance on the machinery must be compulsorily carried out by authorized staff, only. NOTE: "RIGHT" and "LEFT" indications refer to the operator positioned as defined in the herewith enclosed "Operatorís Work Station" lay-out.

1.4 Description The feeding device is a machine to be attached to vertical band saws in order to obtain the steady feed of the material to be cut. The feed is obtained thanks to a power-driven roller which, due to the contact, drives and transmits the motion to the workpiece to be cut up. A roller fence with appropriate length is essential to define the size of the cut up workpiece, ensure the workpiece stability while it is being cut and allow to apply the force for the feed. The drive system comprises a motor coupled with a continuous speed variator, which is keyed directly to the reduction unit that is in turn mated with the drive roller. All the machine is enclosed in a robust safety casing made of sheet steel, which also features a baffle board as a hand guard for the handling lever. Model supplied with spring The contact force exerted between the feeding device and the workpiece is given by the load of a spring located lengthwise in relation to the feeding device. The feeding device is engaged to and disengaged from the workpiece by the operator. He acts on a lever which is integral with the head of the feeding device itself. A pivot to lock in place ensures the permanent stop in the disengaged positioning. Pneumatic model The contact force exerted between the feeding device and the workpiece depends on the action of a double acting pneumatic cylinder located lengthwise in relation to the feeding device. The feeding device is engaged to and released from the workpiece by means of the double acting cylinder. For all the models the feeding roller can be either of rubber or of toothed steel.

1

Uses of the machinery for its intended purposes

The machinery was designed and constructed to be applied onto the work table of the stationary-table vertical band saws. This machinery must be fitted by pre-setting the work table as described in the chapter relating to the installation contained in this manual and by making use of the fitting material the machinery comes supplied with. The machinery is apt to feed workpieces of a wooden material featuring at least two parallel, opposed surfaces: the roller fence and the feeding roller will refer on them. The people involved in its design stage considered its use in a working environment with the specifications of temperature, moisture and lighting provided for by the Decree Law No. 626/1994 Title II.

1.6

Uses falling outside the intended purposes

Its use with materials other than wood or its by-products is not envisaged. You also fall outside its intended purposes when you use a non-homogeneous material which does not feature two parallel, opposed faces the roller fence and the feeding roller can refer on

Indications on the airborne noise emitted by the machinery The values quoted for the noise represent emission levels, but they do not necessarily represent levels for a safe working environment. It is true that a correlation exists between emission levels and exposure levels, but we cannot rely upon it to determine whether or not further precautions are required. The factors affecting the actual exposure level of the worker include the exposure duration, the environment characteristics, other sources of emission, such as the number of adjacent machines and other processings. The allowed exposure levels as well may vary from one Country to another. However, this information enables the user of the machinery to better assess the hazards and risks involved.

Installation/Connections

4.3

Electrical connection

Safety conditions: The machine on which the band saw feeding device will be installed must be in conformity with the health and safety regulations in force in the country of use; for the European Community, the machine must have the CE mark. CAUTION !!! ALL THE OPERATIONS FOR THE CONNECTION TO THE MAINS MUST BE MADE WHEN THE POWER SUPPLY LINE IS DEAD, BY SKILLED AND EXPLICITLY AUTHORIZED STAFF AND ALWAYS IN THE FULL COMPLIANCE OF THE REGULATIONS IN FORCE. Make sure that the frequency and power supply voltage values (see rating plate) are the same as the values of the mains. CAUTION !!! In all patchboards the connection of the ground wire (GND - PE - Y) is of vital importance. It must feature an appropriate cross-section to protect the operator against accidental contacts between metallic parts of the machinery and live wires or components. The cables used to supply current must feature a sufficient cross-section and insulation must be fit for the voltage and temperature requirements relating to the machinery. For this assessment, please read the max. required power among the general data of the machinery. To avoid the fire hazard, just make use of the exact kind of fuses, with a correct voltage and tension. IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN TO MAKE OPERATIONS ON LIVE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. -

DEROGATIONS, IF ANY, MUST BE AUTHORIZED BY THE HEAD IN CHARGE.

-

UNDER CONDITIONS OF A PARTICULAR DANGER, ANOTHER PERSON MUST BE PRESENT TO ASSIST THE WORKER DOING THE JOB.

START JOBS ONLY WHEN ALL THE SAFETY MEASURES HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED.

Installation/Connections

☞

Connection: First make sure that the voltage shown on the rating plate fixed on the machine exactly matches the mains voltage, then connect the feeding device to the electrical system of the band saw by means of a cable of appropriate dimensions and protected by a reinforced-type flexible sheath. In order to safeguard the motor, the saw electrical system must be supplied with an overcurrent protection device (thermal sensor) complying with the technical provisions governing accidental startings and the electrocution protection. Ascertain whether the short-circuit current intensity envisaged at the connecting terminals of the mains switch is compatible with its cut-off power. Hook up the contacts of the safety electrical interlock switch relating to the door allowing to gain access to the internal parts so as to cut out the power supply to the feeding device when the access door is open and so as to avoid its automatic restart as soon as the access door is closed (Short-circuit in compliance with CEI 44-5 standards).

☞

Ensure that the band saw feeding device cannot be started if the machine on which it is installed is off. Therefore, turn the mains switch of the band saw to "0-OFF" and check that the power to the band saw feeding device is also cut. CAUTION!!! THE MANUFACTURER DISCLAIMS ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ACCIDENT OR INCONVENIENCE OCCURRED WHEN THE ABOVE-DESCRIBED CONNECTIONS ARE OMITTED OR WRONGLY PERFORMED. Feeding device supplied with electrical equipment Fit a plug featuring electrical specifications apt for the machinery energy requirements and connect it to a power supply line equipped with an equipotential protection device and with protection fuses of appropriate size. To verify the correct connection of the machine, take the following steps: -

Supply the machine with driving voltage by means of the MAINS SWITCH Make sure that the MUSHROOM-HEAD EMERGENCY button of the band saw is not pressed. Operate the feeding device by activating the control you have used (if the connections is directly, starting when the band saw machine will start) and check whether the drive roller is spinning in the right direction. On the contrary, invert two of the phases of the electrical connection.

Installation/Connections

Pneumatic feeding device The feeding device with pneumatic opening/closing comes supplied with a safety solenoid valve: In the event of a power failure or of an emergency, the latter opens the feeding device or disengages it from the workpiece, unless there is a failure in the compressed air supply. Connect the power supply of the safety solenoid valve by withdrawing power from a power supply source inside the band saw control unit. This source must provide for the power supply cut-out as a result of a stop or of an emergency command. See the wiring diagram of the pneumatic feeding device for the power supply specifications of the safety solenoid valve. See the wiring diagram of the band saw to select the exact connection location for the power supply of the solenoid valve itself.

CAUTION!!! Make some functional tests before using the machinery.

Position the opening command lever so that it might be easily controlled, either directly or by means of the workpiece to be machined. You must avoid approaching dangerous areas such as the blade or taking unstable or twisted positions. This lever is usually fitted on one side of the roller fence, at the material entry section, so that the workpiece might operate it directly, while it is being inserted.

4.4

Pneumatic connection

Connect the compressed air supply line with the entry section of the FilterRegulator Lubricator (FR+L) assembly by means of a quick coupling for 1/2" tubes. The supply line must be fitted with an ON-OFF valve so that the machinery might be insulated from the supply line in the event of maintenance work or operations on the feeding device which are not directly related to its standard use.
