Instead, it is consist of 4 independent vertical blocks with its respective main users and creatively linked with wide horizontal connections to create an emphasizing on connecting all users in one space. The design is also to convey a strong message which is to invite and encourage people from different background to meet and interact to create a new and better living culture within Moabit.

MISE EN SCÈNE vs STRUCTURES „The ultimate aim of all creative activity is the building“ – said Walter Gropius in his Bauhaus Manifest (1919). We do agree on his point that not one single learning strategy is as powerful as 1:1. So, in joined forces, the two FAKT studios will research, design and finally build a 1:1 over the course of this semester. Celebrating the 100 years of Bauhaus we are first going to revisit some of the groundbreaking thoughts and methodological experiments of the time under the light of the current challenges as a young architect as well as the present day condition of a city expanding rapidly: Berlin. How can severe economic pressure and therefore standardization lead to a new junction of prefab product materials and qualitative architectonic space? How can we exploit the affordability to create space for the former incapable or use the reduction in price as an abundance of material that allows new spatial experiments? 10 houses to learn from: We will visit, draw and rebuilt 10 famous examples of the old Bauhaus masters and try to learn, transcend and rearrange the most important qualities and characteristics under today’s circumstances of labor and production, social conditions and demands. The goal is to find a new way of looking at these historic treasures, become curious and isolate inventions in two different scales, critically position ourselves and make new inventions on our own. All the knowhow from that retrofitting exercise will find its way into a larger 1:1 project that you as students will design and also assemble this summer on campus.
