If goals are met, at least 25 plaques will be added to the Pathway of Pride in Rancho Bernardo’s Webb Park, each representing a minimum donation of $1,000. The deadline is June 7. Plaques can be inscribed to honor one’s family, friend or business. The unveiling ceremony will be on June 21. Jeff Shea, who is organizing this year’s endeavor for the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, said 228 plaques have been installed since 1988 when the pathway was founded. That includes 22 unveiled last year during the annual ceremony. Shea said this year the goal is 25 plaques. “We have raised over $230,000 over the past 15 years with this program,” Shea said. The money goes to the foundation’s endowment, which funds the community grants distributed at the annual RB Thanksgiving luncheon, See PRIDE, Page 16

With donations and sponsorships, locals can assist Rancho Bernardo High and University of San Diego ROTC students in their endeavor to help wounded military personnel. Between 200 and 300 students are expected to participate in the 12-hour Team Red, White & Blue Relay, in which at least one member of each 12-person team will be walking or running around the high school’s football field at all times. The event will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 19 and conclude at 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 20. The public is welcome to attend from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, where they can cheer on the students, enjoy the opening ceremony and other entertainment. Admission is a suggested $5 donation, said Pete Jackson, one of the organizers. RB High’s football stadium is at 13010 Paseo Lucido. Among opening ceremony features planned are the Navy Leapfrogs parachuting into the football stadium, the RB High Madrigals singing the national anthem and other students See RELAY, Page 16

Winery’s Arts & Crafts Fair is May 12, 13 BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK Bernardo Winery’s 35th annual Spring Arts & Crafts Fair is something moms and their children of all ages can attend on Mother’s Day weekend, organizers said. The fair — expected to draw 6,000 to 7,000 attendees over the two days — will feature 135 vendors, who are among

“Southern California’s best artisans and crafters,” according to Samantha Pewitt, the winery’s marketing director. She said they will provide a wide variety of products, including clothes, jewelry, arts and crafts, handmade soaps, woodworking items, paintings, photography and home decor. With handmade toys and other children’s items also available, Pewitt said “there is something for

everyone.” This year’s craft fair has expanded hours, with it open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13. Admission, parking and shuttle service are free. Pewitt said the shuttle will pick up attendees from various points along Paseo del Verano and let them off near two locations, in front of the winery See FAIR, Page 16
