RB’s Memorial Day ceremony is Monday
RB/4S DIGEST Pancake time Rancho Bernardo Historical Society’s annual pancake breakfast will be 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 26 at Bernardo Winer y, 13330 Paseo del Verano Norte, Rancho Bernardo. Tickets: $6 for those 3 and older; those under 3 years, and current and former military members who come in uniform or bring a photograph of themselves in uniform are free.
BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK To honor those lost in defense of the United States, locals can gather at Webb Park for the annual Memorial Day ceremony. The 10:15-11:45 a.m. Monday, May 28 event will be at the Rancho Bernardo Veterans Memorial near the Webb Park lake. The park is accessible from Avena Place. Organizers are asking attendees to not use the Pearl Rear Adm. Cathal Flynn Restaurant parking lot and recommending they bring lawn chairs as seating is limited. The event will begin at 10:15 a.m. with a patriotic musical prelude performed by the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Brass Quintet from MCAS Miramar. This will be followed by the See CEREMONY, Page 14
Broadway revue Rancho Bernardo High School’s vocal music department will perform its Broadway Revue at 7 tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) in the school’s performing arts center, 13010 Paseo Lucido. Tickets are $10 at the door.

INAUGURAL TEAM RWB RELAY IS A SUCCESS – Around 500 locals participated in the inaugural Team Red, White & Blue Relay at Rancho Bernardo High on Saturday evening. The 12-hour event included around 200 runners on 15 teams formed by RB High students and those in the University of San Diego’s ROTC program. Leading participants in the first lap was wounded warrior John Keith, center. The ceremony included the Navy Leapfrogs parachuting into the stadium and musical entertainment. Next month’s Freedom Run 5K and family walk is a new preSpirit of the Fourth activity that will help raise funds for Rancho Bernardo’s Independence Day celebration. The run/walk will be on Sunday, June 10 in Rancho Bernardo Community Park, 18448 W. Bernardo Drive. Event-day registration at the park’s gazebo will be 7-7:30 a.m., though Spirit of the Fourth President Steve DeMatteo said pre-registration is strongly encouraged.
