BY EMILY SORENSEN Poway Unified School District employees got a happy surprise on last week when the San Diego County Grand Jury released a report praising the district. The report commended the PUSD for its dedication to college readiness and the significant accomplishments that the school district has made over the past 10 years, including increasing the

A new category of grants is being offered by the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, the first due to the $500,000 bequest by the late Matt McLaughlin in 2010. “We’re starting to realize the interest accruing from the $500,000,” said Trudy Armstrong, associate vice president of regional outreach at the San Diego Foundation. The gift is one of several the longtime Rancho Bernardan made to the San Diego community, which also included a $10 million legacy gift to the San Diego Foundation that is to be shared among its various affiliates. The amount to be granted has yet to be determined — the fiscal year ends on June 30 — but Armstrong said it is projected to be around $30,000.
