There will be a forum next week to discuss possible ways to bring recycled water for landscaping to Rancho Bernardo. The event will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21 at Bernardo Heights Country Club, 16066 Bernardo Heights Parkway in Rancho Bernardo. To RSVP contact Michael Spayd at mspayd@ bhcc.net or 858-487-4022.

The organizers — including resident Jim Denton — are with Bernardo Heights Country Club and Community Association of Bernardo Heights. Both have extensive green areas that need water to maintain their appearance and have been exploring for a few years how to get less expensive water for landscaping, Denton said. “Initially, we thought the two of us together could find a way to do this by using a self-contained waste water

Buy a rubber duck for a chance to win $500 BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK A rubber ducky race will be part of Rancho Bernardo’s 50th birthday party next month. The race, set for 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 in the Webb Park lake, will have up to 500 rubber ducks “racing” toward the finish line. The winning duck’s owner will win $500. Bob Wells, a party committee member, said proceeds from the race will help offset the community party’s cost. The event marking the 50th anniversary of Rancho Bernardo’s formation will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Webb Park. Ducks are being sold for $5. Of the 500 ducks available, a couple hundred have already been sold at community events. To purchase, send a check written to “RBBA” along with the entrant’s name and phone number to P.O. Box 27951, San Diego, CA 92198. The winner need not attend the race. Ducks can also be purchased via credit card by calling Wells at 858-229-9053. He said if all are not sold prior to Sept. 22, they will be sold at the party on a first-come basis until the race.
