RB Business Association’s end of summer reception will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Urge American Gastropub in The Plaza, 16761 Bernardo Center Drive, RB. Cost: free to RBBA members, $15 for non-members. RSVP by Friday, Sept. 14 at april@rbbusinessassociation.com.

WHAT A VIEW — Del Norte High School student Lindsay Stevens took this striking sunset photo during Friday night’s home varsity football game. The Nighthawks lost their home opener to San Pasqual High School, 17-7.

Plenty of fun for all ages will be available to those who go to Webb Park on Sept. 22 to celebrate Rancho Bernardo’s 50th birthday. The free community celebration with a ‘60s theme will likely draw 2,000 to 4,000 attendees, said party chairman Marty Judge. Admission and activities are free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the day and there will be complimentary birthday cake available in the afternoon. The entertainment acts Judge said he is most looking forward to are by those impersonating the Beach Boys, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley — entertainers popular in the early 1960s when Rancho Bernardo’s first residents were moving into the new community. Steve Dreyer continues as editor and will report to Pfeiffer, as will Keller. “Jeff Mitchell has done an outstanding job with our inland papers,” said Allegretti. “He has assembled an excellent staff and therefore we are able to consolidate senior management in San Diego because of the high quality of management, writers, sales consultants and graphic designers at the News Journal. The Good Times, one of the country’s premier alternative weeklies, offers Jeff and his wife, Anna, an opportunity to return to See PAPER, Page 14
