Term limit petitions handed in Monday by Councilman Dave Grosch were rejected Tuesday by the City of Poway, which puts the effort to place the initiative on the November 2012 ballot in jeopardy. Grosch, who led the Poway for Term Limits committee, was notified Tuesday about missing documents and resubmitted the petitions the same day with a required summary attached to each set of signatures, he said. According to City Clerk Linda Troyan, the original filing was missing a summary page about existing term limits and what changes Grosch is proposing for Poway City Council and mayoral terms. Election codes require such documentation before the Recreation Supervisor Greg Sundberg. During the first day, 4-9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. Registrar of Voters can pro16, the Community Park parking lot was full ceed, she said. for the first few hours, then the crowd lightened as evening progressed, he said. WinterFest ice rink, snow a hit BY PAT KUMPAN Cool weather seemed to be the perfect backdrop for Poway’s inaugural four-day WinterFest, Dec. 16-19 at Poway Community Park. Many parents commented that having such an event fit right into their family plans, although some regretted that only one snow hill day, Saturday, Dec. 17, was planned. Next year, if the event is slated to return, parents and kids alike are requesting more snow days. Community Services did not have an estimate of the turnout, which was sporadic on some days, “packed” on others, said Senior
In a letter to Grosch dated Dec. 20, Troyan pointed out other errors in the original filing, such as required font size, a one-inch blank border needed at the top of the page and other specifics, all mapped out by the Election Code. Because the summary was shown and explained to voters when they signed the petitions, Grosch did not attach the “notice of intent to circulate a petition” and an “initiative measure to be submitted directly to the voters” to the petitions submitted Monday, he said. He resubmitted the petitions Tuesday with a summary statement stapled to each set to meet the Dec. 20 deadline. “If there is an error in this, it was made by me,” Grosch said during Tuesday night’s See PETITION, Page 14
