Three of the five candidates hoping to succeed retiring District 3 County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price will participate in a debate on Tuesday that is hosted by the Conservative Order for Good Government. Those invited were Steve Danon, Carl Hillard and Dave Roberts, according to debate organizer Marty Judge. He said all have confirmed their plans to participate. Danon is a Carmel Valley resident and chief of staff for Rep. Brian Bilbray. Hillard is the mayor of Del Mar. Both are Republicans. Roberts is a city councilman and deputy mayor of Solana Beach and is a Democrat. According to the Registrar of Voters, the June 5 primary race has two additional candidates in the race — Stephen Pate, an Escondido resident and transportation driver captain for motion pictures; and Bryan M. Ziegler, an Encinitas resident and senior deputy counsel for San Diego County. Both are Republicans. San Diego County Board of Supervisors District 3 includes the communities of Rancho Bernardo, 4S Ranch, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Sabre Springs and Rancho Penasquitos. If you did not get to vacation in Hawaii over spring break, Turtleback Education Foundation is bringing a bit of Hawaii to Rancho Bernardo later this month. The foundation is organizing a family-oriented luau open to all in the community from 5-9 p.m. Friday, April 27 at Turtleback Elementary,

15855 Turtleback Road in Rancho Bernardo. Admission is free. Tickets will be sold for various activities and refreshments available for purchase. There will also be 30-minute sessions offered throughout the evening for children, with a price of $3 to $5 per session. Foundation President Kristen Crane said organizers chose a luau theme for their biggest fundraiser

because it is “a fun spring theme ... (plus) turtles are part of the Hawaiian culture.” In addition, Turtleback’s PTA hosted a fall harvest festival and earlier the foundation hosted two smaller fundraisers, a wine event and a parent-child Valentine dance. Crane said there will be a lot of entertainment, including dancers from Pualani’s Hula Studio in Rancho Penasquitos and Westview High School;

and Sunset Strummers, a ukulele group from Vista. In addition, there will be many games and other activities like face painting. Parents wanting to have some adult time during the luau can enroll their pre-school through fifth-grade students in 30-minute programs. Space is limited, so they must be registered in advance.
