Committee to review Valle Verde Road traffic study Tuesday
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF FIREFIGHTING BY PAT KUMPAN Starting this Saturday, the “City in the Country” will be celebrating 50 years of fire protection with an open house, commemorative badges for firefighters and anniversary decals on fire engines to announce the milestone. According to Division Chief John Canavan, special decals will have Poway Fire — 19612011 — with a motto “Service, Integrity, Trust” along with “50th anniversary” centered in the decal. “They’ll either be on a side panel of the engines and other vehicles, or on the back cabinet,” Canavan said. If residents don’t catch a glimpse of the decals, they can get a close-up of one during the 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. open house this Saturday at the department’s training tower, 12355 Crosthwaite Circle in the Poway Business Park. Tour the tower, watch demonstrations, spray a hose at a target, let kids learn about fire and burn prevention and purchase food at the hot dog booth. Firefighters and paramedics will also be wearing special 50th anniversary badges from

A city staff review of Valle Verde Road traffic conditions will be completed in time for next week’s Traffic Safety Committee, members of the City Council were told Tuesday night. Speaking to a roomful of people demanding stop signs at the road’s intersection with Solera/Vinter Way, Development Services Director Bob Manis said the review should be completed by tomorrow (Friday.) Time has been reserved at the committee’s Tuesday afternoon meeting to discuss findings as to whether the stop signs are warranted. The committee will meet at 2 p.m. in the council chambers. Toyota’s relocation, Ford’s design OK’d BY STEVE DREYER Toyota of Poway on Tuesday night received the City Council’s 5-0 approval to move across Poway Road. Plans submitted by dealership owner Pinnacle Realty of California call for the business to move into three vacant buildings on 5.5 acres southeast of Poway and Midland roads. The dealership purchased two of the buildings and will be leasing the third — the most easterly building — from the city’s redevelopment agency, which purchased the structure from Chrysler for $2.8 million plus $200,000 in related expenses. In a related automotive matter, the council sent clear signals to an architect for Perry Ford that he can proceed with plans for a new modern-looking showroom without needing See TOYOTA, Page 19
