Road by RB park to become wider Parking lot improvements also planned BY ELIZABETH MARIE HIMCHAK A private developer is paying to widen West Bernardo Drive by Rancho Bernardo Community Park and make other improvements to its sports fields’ parking lots, city officials said. The developer of Black Mountain Ranch, which created the communities of Del Sur and Santaluz, is funding the endeavor that the City of San Diego approved three years ago, said Mónica Muñoz, a supervising public information officer in the city’s communications department. The project is part of the Black Mountain development, located west of 4S Ranch. She said the Rancho Bernardo
Planning Board also reviewed and approved the project a few years ago. Muñoz said the contractor, Marathon General Incorporated, will be widening the road, which in that section has two lanes. “(They are) not adding a traffic lane, just widening the current lanes,” she said. The project also includes resurfacing the park’s parking lots and reconfiguring the two field parking lots’ traffic pattern. To do this, Muñoz said one driveway in the north lot will be removed and the two lots will be connected so drivers can go from one to the other without using West Bernardo Drive. SEE ROAD, A12
