style-setting students “My favorite trend of 2016 is I don’t know what they are called, but platforms. I just think they look cool. I tend to go to Goodwill or thrift stores and find more looks. My clothes tend to be very ‘70s era. I like all the groovy patterns. I think fashion is going in a good direction. Especially from the early 2000s, the Abercrombie and Hollister is going away, so that’s good. My personal style is a bit retro, but also classy. My favorite part of thrifting is the cheapness. I’ll go on sprees and go like every weekend. My favorite stores to shop at are Goodwill, and there are a lot of good vintage clothing stores in Wicker Park, downtown and the Village in Chicago. I am an old soul.”

AARON CAPPELLO (11)

“My favorite makeup trend of 2016 is highlighter because it makes you look radiant. I think that eyebrows really frame your face and it’s good when they look clean, but sometimes they can look a little strong. Eyebrows have changed a lot. In the early 2000s, they were lines and now they are really thick. There are some things that stay throughout the years like red lips. I think that makeup can help you express how you want to represent yourself, and it washes off at the end of the day, so you can change it day-to-day. My favorite part is the self-confidence it gives you and different ways you can learn to do it, like the techniques and the different looks.”

KATHERINE KARL (10)

“My favorite style trend would probably be the ‘90s. I love the Adidas shoes, the new bomber jackets, just a throwback. I know plaid is coming back in with the different scarves. I get inspired just from seeing things online, seeing other people dress, celebrities and my own type of style. I’ll just grab random things in my closet and put them together. I don’t have one set word because I just dress how I feel, but mostly ‘90s, I guess, throwbacks. I like Goodwill, Forever 21 and little boutiques. I think my style just represents who I am and what I am about. It represents me, like the shirt I have on right now, ‘I’m cool with Jesus.’”
