THUNDER BAY CAMPUS Established in 1965, the Thunder Bay campus is home to over 7,500 students studying a comprehensive array of programs. From Arts and Sciences to professional programs such as Business, Education, Engineering, Law, and Nursing, Lakehead is well known for providing a quality, student-centred education. Situated in the heart of Thunder Bay, the best of both nature and big city amenities are only minutes away from campus. Fields and green space surround our campus and all buildings are conveniently located together in one location creating a true campus feel. Many of the University’s buildings are grouped around Lake Tamblyn and the residence complexes hug the banks of the McIntyre River. Underground tunnels connect many of the main, centralized buildings on campus, allowing for easy access between classes and facilities. Paved trails surround the campus, making it the perfect place to take in the beauty of the area whether you are hiking, jogging, rollerblading, biking, or crosscountry skiing!

ORILLIA CAMPUS In 2006, the Lakehead experience expanded to Central Ontario’s beautiful cottage country in Orillia. The campus has increased to over 1,500 students and now operates out of two locations. In 2010, our brand new state-of-the-art campus opened, as the first LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standard campus in North America. The Academic Building is environmentally friendly in every way possible with a green roofing system, geothermal energy source, and water collection ponds. CONCURRENT EDUCATION Primary/Junior and Intermediate/Senior* As a Concurrent Education student, you have the option of taking a Concurrent Bachelor program or a Concurrent Honours Bachelor program. Either way, you will be earning two degrees at the same time. You will take courses in both the Faculty of Education and the faculty offering your program (e.g. Kinesiology in the Faculty of Health & Behavioural Sciences) before spending two years exclusively within the Faculty of Education in order to qualify for certification by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). *Intermediate/Senior teaching level offered in Thunder Bay only.

CONSECUTIVE BACHELOR OF EDUCATION Primary/Junior and Intermediate/Senior* Open to applicants with sufficient academic backgrounds who have already completed an undergraduate degree. The Consecutive Bachelor of Education program leads to a recommendation for certification by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) after two years of study. HONOURS BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (ABORIGINAL) Primary/Junior This program will prepare you to become a teacher, with an emphasis on teaching Aboriginal children. You will develop a critical understanding of culturally-based Aboriginal education grounded in Aboriginal philosophies and the goal of selfdetermination. Distinguishing various health conditions that can affect learning in association with relevant historical contexts, you will learn how to apply helping tools and approaches when working with at-risk youth and how to access Aboriginal youth support networks.

NATIVE LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR’S PROGRAM (ABORIGINAL) Primary/Junior The Native Language Instructor’s Program will prepare you to instruct in Native as a First Language or Native as a Second Language. This summer program will focus on helping you to develop skills required for second language teaching, offering a curriculum designed for students who enter the program with an Algonquian language background.

NATIVE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM BACHELOR OF ARTS - BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (INDIGENOUS LEARNING) Intermediate/Senior This program provides students of Aboriginal ancestry with the opportunity to pursue an Arts degree while working toward the Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization in Native Studies. Over a 5-year period, students will develop professional teaching skills while learning to meet the unique social and cultural needs of the Native community through courses in Native culture and traditions, Native languages, Native arts and crafts, and the literature of Canada’s First Nations. As a civil engineer, you will be involved in the planning, design, construction, and rehabilitation of such engineering works as buildings, airports, highways, dams and power projects, water supply and waste disposal systems, bridges, harbours, and industrial facilities. You will tackle design and research work in highway geometrics and transportation systems, high-performance concretes, environmental issues, watershed analysis, foundations, and slope stability projects or structural analysis and design engineering.

Lakehead has a strong and rich history in the field of Engineering. As a Lakehead Engineering student, you will have access to professors who are active researchers, conducting cutting-edge studies that cross traditional disciplines. With undergraduate and graduate student involvement, this research has led to developments in areas such as green cement additives, biofuels, and electronic health monitoring. To apply, you will need a PIN and School Number, which your Guidance Department will provide to you. Your high school transcript will be automatically sent to us. Lakehead assesses and extends Offers of Admission to qualified applicants throughout the entire admissions cycle. For current Ontario high school applicants, Offers are extended in rounds based on available grades. December – Early Round; March – First Round; May – Second Round; July – Final Round For all other applicants, Offers are extended on a rolling basis to qualified applicants who have completed an application and submitted all supporting documentation. Students who do not meet the admission requirements of their program of choice but who do meet the General Admission Requirements of Lakehead University will automatically be considered for an alternate program.

SUMMER SCHOOL, NIGHT SCHOOL & CORRESPONDENCE

Lakehead University accepts Grade 12 U or M courses or equivalent taken through summer school, night school or correspondence. It is the student’s responsibility to inform Lakehead University of any courses taken outside of regular high school, and to ensure that final official grades are received no later than August 12, 2016.

REPEATED COURSES (HIGH SCHOOL APPLICANTS ONLY) Lakehead University does not penalize high school students who have repeated courses. The highest Grade 12 U or M grade or equivalent will be used when calculating the admission average.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) AND ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)

Applicants presenting the IB Diploma may be considered for advanced standing credit in some higher level subjects provided a score of 5 or better has been attained in the higher level subject. Please note that no advanced standing will be granted on Standard Level (SL) courses. Similarly, applicants who have achieved a minimum grade of 4 on an AP exam may be eligible to receive advanced standing credit.

A student who is currently attending high school on a full-time basis or has recently graduated (within two years), and who has not completed any post-secondary studies at another institution.

University Transfer Student:

A student who has attended a university and successfully completed university level course work since leaving high school/college with a minimum overall average of C/60% or equivalent. Applicants must also ensure that they hold the minimum program-specific preparatory course prerequisites at the Grade 12 U or M level or equivalent. Transfer credit may be awarded for courses in which an applicant has achieved a standing of at least 60% or equivalent.

College Transfer Student:

A student who has completed a minimum of one year of full-time academic studies at an accredited community college since leaving high school with a minimum overall average of B/70% or equivalent. Students who have completed a college diploma with a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 or equivalent will be considered for transfer credit and can look forward to the opportunity of turning their diploma into a degree. Students from an ABHE Accredited Bible College may be eligible to receive transfer credit.

International Student:

A student who last studied at an institution outside of Canada will be evaluated under the admission requirements pertaining to the country in which they were educated. Please visit admissions.lakeheadu.ca to determine the requirements for your country. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must possess the required qualifications with an appropriate academic average as determined by Lakehead University.

Mature Student:

A student who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who has not been engaged in full-time studies for at least two years, and does not meet the General Admission Requirements but successfully meets the minimum program-specific prerequisites at the Grade 12 U or M level or equivalent.

PROFICIENCY IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE:

If your native language is not English, and you cannot verify having recently studied in an English language school system for more than 3 full years of full-time study, you will be required to present proof of English language proficiency. Lakehead University accepts the following recognized tests as proof of English language proficiency. Alternatively, you can choose to complete Lakehead Universityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Academic English Program prior to your undergraduate studies. ACCESS PROGRAMS

In addition to our regular entry pathways for admission, Lakehead University offers a number of special access opportunities that allow students who may not meet the regular admission requirements, but who demonstrate potential for success, to start university. These programs often feature specialized supports and programming to help students make the transition to university and develop skills to ensure their academic success.

ABORIGINAL ACCESS PROGRAMS

Apply Directly At Lakehead University, we are committed to promoting opportunities through education for people of Aboriginal ancestry. Native Access Program (NAP) The Native Access program is a nine-month full-time preparatory program designed to provide you with the skills and academic preparation necessary for the successful completion of a university degree. You will study in a culturally sensitive and friendly environment while you take courses in subject areas such as English, Math, Science, Indigenous Learning, and University Transitions. Upon successful completion of the Native Access Program, you may choose to pursue an undergraduate degree at Lakehead University. Native Nurses Entry Program (NNEP) The Native Nurses Entry Program is a nine-month preparation program designed to increase opportunities for Aboriginal people to gain access to, and be successful in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Porgram. The program consists of two semesters as well as a two-week field placement. Upon successful completion, students enter first year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

GATEWAY

No Application, Automatically Considered The Gateway program offers students the opportunity to pursue university studies while providing enriched supports and programming. Gateway is geared towards students who successfully meet their academic program course prerequisites, but whose academic average does not represent their academic potential. No application is necessary; students will automatically be considered for admission under Gateway as part of the regular admission assessment process.

ACADEMIC ENGLISH PROGRAM (AEP)

No Application, Automatically Considered Lakehead University’s Academic English Program (AEP) is an intensive English language program designed to improve international students’ English language proficiency.
