Veterans Can Earn a CDL for FREE
Lake Land College is the only community college in the state of Illinois to receive a grant of $130,000 to provide free Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training and testing for up to 30 U.S. military Veterans and active service members, as well as their spouses and dependent children.

New Retail Management Certificate
The new short-term Retail Management certificate is an excellent option to provide training for employees.
Classes are designed for those interested in pursuing a career in the industry or owning a business. The certificate is stackable and can be applied toward an associate degree in management.

Lake Land College Effingham Technology Center
Construction is moving forward on the first and second floors of the Lake Land College Effingham Technology Center.
The first floor will house the CORE Academy (formerly the Effingham Regional Career Academy), Student Services and a mini Laker Nest Bookstore.
Work has also begun on renovations to the second floor to accommodate Kluthe Center programs and operations.
Cross Country Returns to Laker Athletics
Kate Bushue will lead the newly introduced men and women’s cross country and half marathon teams this fall.
“I’m excited to be here and build a family-like culture,” Bushue said. “I want to build an environment that allows students to succeed and prepares them for opportunities to continue to grow and peak even after they graduate from Lake Land.”

Celebrating Apprentices
In November, Michael Baker, Manager of Strategic Planning and Innovation from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, joined Lake Land College President Josh Bullock for a proclamation of National Apprenticeship Week.
Courtney Yockey, President/CEO of Effingham Regional Growth Alliance, highlighted the personal and community-wide benefits of apprenticeship with a keynote address.
A native of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Bushue, competed in both cross country and track & field at Eastern Illinois University, where she earned numerous awards and honors. Bushue previously served as the cross country head coach at Mattoon High School from 2023-2024.
KC Summers, JB Esker & Sons, North American Lighting and 3 Sisters Logistics (pictured above) were all honored for participating in apprenticeships with Lake Land.
