elcome to Lake Land College and thank you for joining us for this exciting Laker basketball game. I’d like to take this time to formally introduce myself to each of you. My name is Josh Bullock and I am the new president of Lake Land College. Although I’ve only been at Lake Land for a short time, it is evident the entire college community is fully committed to creating a meaningful and fulfilling educational experience for everyone, and Laker basketball is no exception. As a Division II member of the NJCAA, the Laker basketball team excels on and off the court. Our players challenge themselves every day to set very high standards. This is seen through the level of play they bring to the athletic program at the college and their accomplishments in the classroom. Led by Coach Cedric Brown, our men’s basketball team is comprised of some of the finest athletes in the world, and we are very proud to have them as members of the Lake Land family. Throughout the year, Lake Land’s five inter-collegiate athletic programs build a well-rounded college experience for students. Being a student athlete is hard work, but the benefits of playing and studying at the college level are immeasurable. Our players’ athletic ability, dedication and team spirit are second to none. Thank you for your support of the team, our coaching staff and the college. I look forward to seeing you at the next Laker event! Go Lakers! Sincerely,

Dr. Josh Bullock President Lake Land College

edric Brown will begin his seventh season as the leader of the Lake Land Laker Men’s Basketball Program. The 2011-2012 season was Brown’s most successful. For the Lakers’ efforts, Brown earned Coach of the Year honors in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference (GRAC). In addition to Brown’s award, the Lakers won the regular season conference championship. They compiled a 22-10 overall record and were 12-4 in conference play. The success of the team in the classroom was equally outstanding. The team finished with an overall GPA of 2.96 and graduated six sophomores. The class of 2012 was the most successful recruiting class that Brown has had in his tenure. In two seasons, they won 42 games, earned the highest seed for the Region XXIV Tournament in the school’s history, won the regular season conference championship for the first time in men’s basketball history, and earned four Division I and Division II NCAA scholarships, which include: Jomari Bradshaw , Florida A&M University; Darrian Gray, Southeast Missouri State University; Dylan Mosack, University of Illinois – Springfield; Orlando Rutledge, Southern Indiana University; Anthony White Jr. , Mercer University; and Jamal Williams II, Texas Tech University. Before he took over the sidelines in Mattoon, Brown was an assistant coach at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas for former GRAC head coach Pat Smith. In his one season at TVCC, Brown helped the Cardinals to a 19-11 overall record, a third place finish in the East Texas Athletic Conference and a Region 14 #3 seed. Prior to his time in Texas, Brown spent three seasons at Chicago State University. During his time with the Cougars, Brown was instrumental in helping recruit the talent that led the Cougars to a Mid-Continent Conference Championship appearance during the 2005-2006 season. At Chicago State, he coached former NBA center Deji Akindele, Euro League guard Tony Weeden and International Basketball League guard and 2007 NCAA Slam-Dunk participant, Royce Parran. Before Brown brought his coaching and recruiting skills to Chicago State University in 2004, he worked for Champaign Centennial’s Scott Nagy as a graduate assistant at South Dakota State University, where he received his master’s degree in sports pedagogy. The Jackrabbits flourished to a school record of 27 wins with only seven losses and enjoyed being nationally ranked in the top five for over half of the 2003-2004 season. Brown was helpful with the transition of the program from the Division II to the Division I level with his evaluating and recruiting skills, which assisted Coach Nagy in compiling one of his most talented recruiting classes. A native of The Bronx in New York City, Brown graduated from Herbert H. Lehman College in the top third of his program with a bachelor’s degree in recreation education. During the 1999-2000 season at the age of 31, Brown helped lead his Lehman Lightning to the Hudson Valley Athletic Conference Championship. Brown was also voted the Most-Outstanding Student-Athlete that season. While at Lehman College, Brown enjoyed successful junior and senior seasons with the Lightning Men’s Basketball program as a two-year starter and team captain. In two seasons, he averaged 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists with two Eastern College Athletic Conference appearances. Coach Brown has enjoyed success at every level of college basketball. He is known to his colleagues as person with a passion for education, a tireless worker, a dedicated teacher of the game, and a relentless recruiter. Aside from his coaching duties, Brown teaches full-time as a faculty member in the Social Sciences and Education Division at Lake Land College. Brown resides in Mattoon and is the father of five children, Angelo, Asia, Quentin, Isaac, and Chyanne.
