2024 Distinguished Alumni Inductee
Scott Guenthner
Scott Guenthner is a rodeo star like his father, but he took his own path to get there. Among many other accolades, that journey landed him on the international stage at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas four times. Scott, from Provost, Alta., played hockey and volleyball in high school. He only got involved in rodeo when he began studying livestock production at Lakeland College in 2009. He started out in calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling, and in his first year, made it to the Canadian National College Finals Rodeo. He was also recognized as the 2011 Canadian National College Rodeo Association Cowboy of the Year.
He joined the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) in 2012 and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 2013.
His career highlights include:
• CPRA Steer Wrestling Champion (2018, 2019, 2022, 2023)
• 2022 CPRA Cowboy of the Year
• 2023 Calgary Stampede Steer Wrestling Champion
• National Finals Rodeo (NFR) Qualifier (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021)
• Canadian Finals Rodeo Qualifier (2014 2019, 2022, 2023)
“It’s a dream-come-true career,” Scott says.
Scott stays busy beyond his rodeo career with a cow-calf operation near Provost. He and his wife Becky have three sons. In 2022, he made the decision to cut back on rodeoing to stay closer to his family and his ranch, sticking to the Canadian circuit.

“There are many things I didn’t think I’d ever accomplish in rodeo that I did. I was fortunate I got to make that dream come true. I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps and I got lucky.”
It is with great honour that Lakeland College inducts Scott Guenthner, Class of 2011, to the Alumni Wall of Distinction.

Award Presentations
President’s Medal
The most prestigious award given by Lakeland College, the President’s Medal, is awarded to a graduating student at each campus who has demonstrated excellence in academics and leadership in student activities.
Each President's Medal is numbered and embossed with the crest of Lakeland College.
This year, medals #69 & #70 are being awarded.
Nominations came from all facets of the college including faculty, support staff and students, and are reviewed by the Awards Committee with a recommendation made to the President.
Kyla Krahn, graduate of the Agribusiness program, is the Vermilion campus recipient for this award.
This year’s Lloydminster recipient is Sarah Hogue, graduate of the University Transfer program.
Governor General’s Academic Medal
The Governor General's Academic Medal was established in 1873 and is awarded to the student who graduates with the highest academic standing in a diploma-level post-secondary program at each campus.
This medal is engraved with the image of the Governor General of Canada and the personal coat of arms of Her Excellency. The recipient will be registered with the Chancellery of Canadian Orders and Decoration at Rideau Hall, Ottawa.
This year’s recipient for the Vermilion campus is Madeleine Hayes, graduate of the Child & Youth Care Counsellor program.
Mariel Kate Macaya, a graduate of the Business Administration Diploma: General program, is this year’s recipient for the Lloydminster campus.
