1:00 p.m. - Tradeshow begins
• Participants, exhibitors and spectators are encouraged to explore the tradeshow area.
2:00 p.m. - Opening remarks, Land Acknowledgment, live barber competition (main stage in cafeteria)
• Welcome and introduction to the Border Beauty Showcase.
• Barber contestants showcase their skills on the main stage.
• 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards presented immediately after the competition.
2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - High school updo competition (salon)
• High school participants showcase their updo creations in the salon area.
• Spectators can observe the competition from a distance.
2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m - Makeup competition (salon)
• High school makeup competitors demonstrate their skills in the Salon area.
4:30 p.m. - High school category winners announcement (main stage in cafeteria)
• Announcement of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for the high school updo and makeup competitions.
• Entries are presented on the main stage.
6:00 p.m. - Avant Garde competition show and results (main stage in cafeteria)
• Avant Garde participants present their artistic and innovative looks.
• Announcement of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for the Avant Garde competition.
• Thanking participants, sponsors and attendees for their involvement.
• Providing information about future events or activities.

Pam Knutsen’s journey in the beauty industry spans over three remarkable decades, commencing in England where she earned her prestigious City and Guild Certification. Armed with a Red Seal journeyman certificate and a rich background as a former color educator, Pam has become a beacon of knowledge and inspiration for stylists globally. Currently, Pam dedicates her passion for hairstyling at International Beauty, where she generously shares her extensive expertise. As a trailblazer, Pam’s commitment to excellence, coupled with her unmatched skill, has not only elevated her own career but has also played a pivotal role in nurturing the growth of countless stylists. Pam Knutsen stands as a true luminary in the world of beauty, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
With an impressive career spanning over 16 years, Amy Johnson has traversed various roles within the professional beauty industry, showcasing her versatility and expertise. From being a hairstylist and makeup artist to taking on the mantle of brand manager and platform artist, Amy’s journey has been marked by continuous growth and exploration. Currently stationed as a salon business consultant and educator in Western Canada, Amy’s impact extends beyond borders. Her extensive travels across North America, attending conferences and providing education, reflect her dedication to connecting and growing alongside fellow beauty industry professionals. Amy Johnson’s dynamic career trajectory is a testament to her unwavering passion and commitment to the ever-evolving world of beauty.
Karissa Squire’s story is one of ambition and a relentless pursuit of her dreams in the beauty industry. Straight out of high school, this small-town girl embarked on a transformative journey that would take her from the heartland to the global stage. Karissa’s odyssey began with a move to Vancouver, where she enrolled in the renowned Blanche Macdonald Global Makeup Program. This decision marked the genesis of a career that would see her become a makeup maestro celebrated across the continents. Karissa found herself at the epicenter of glamour, participating in makeup shoots in iconic cities such as Paris, London, Cannes, and New York. Her artistic touch graced the faces of some of the most beautiful and gracious NHL wives, creating gala looks. What truly sets Karissa apart is her almost decade-long expertise in Halloween makeup. From transforming Connor McDavid to Jack Campbell, Cam Talbot, Codi Ceci, and many more. Karissa has become known for creating awe-inspiring transformations. Karissa Squire’s journey is a testament to the power of chasing one’s dreams with unwavering dedication.
This year marks Heather’s 15th year calling Lloydminster home and her 20th year in radio. She was born and raised on a farm near Owen Sound, Ontario. After graduating from university with a bachelor of journalism, Heather started a career in radio at her hometown station. She began as a community event’s reporter, attending fairs, and other local activities. After a few moves and working on air in a number of different roles, she currently hosts Afternoons on New Country 95.9 and is the assistant program director. She enjoys being involved in the community by helping organize the Terry Fox Run, sitting on the executive of the Lloydminster Legion and volunteering at numerous events. Heather is very excited to work with the students and faculty at Lakeland College for their first annual Border Beauty Showcase!
Denna is a vibrant personality in the world of hairstyling. She brings a down-to-earth charm and a passion for enhancing natural beauty to her work. Denna’s journey into the realm of hairstyling began when she enrolled in the program at Lakeland College. Her aspirations extend beyond mastering the art of hairstyling; she dreams of one day opening her own salon, where she can create a space for clients to feel empowered and beautiful.
Denna’s philosophy revolves around the belief that when you look good, you feel good. She is driven by a desire to help people uncover their inherent beauty and accentuate their best features.
Grace brings her own unique blend of passion and dedication to the hairstyling industry. From an early age, Grace harbored a fervent desire to become a hairstylist, a dream she’s pursued with unwavering determination. Currently enrolled in the hairstyling program, she’s honing her skills at Lakeland College, eager to transform her lifelong passion into a fulfilling career.
Grace approaches each day with a sense of gratitude and enthusiasm. As she stands before the audience at the Border Beauty Showcase, she radiates warmth and appreciation for the industry.

Tinisha Young is a member of Treaty 5 Territory, though she was raised in the heart of Treaty 6 in Lloydminster, Alta. Throughout her life, she has maintained a deep connection to her Indigenous heritage, which she weaves into her daily existence. One of Tinisha’s greatest passions is sharing her culture and knowledge with individuals of all ages. As a Knowledge Keeper, Tinisha takes great joy in passing down the teachings of her ancestors. She firmly believes that Reconcili-Action is paramount for constructing a decolonized world, not only for her own children but also for the prosperity of future generations. Tinisha Young is Lakeland’s indigenous support services manager.
Sisters Jolie and Memphis are talented Indigenous dancers from Thunderchild and Frog Lake First Nations, known for their deep passion for Jingle dancing. Jolie, a hairstyling student at Lakeland College, embodies “old style” Jingle dress dance, carrying on family traditions with grace. Memphis, aged 12, excels in contemporary Jingle dance and eagerly anticipates teen categories. Their regalia, crafted by proud parents, showcases familial and cultural bonds. Together, they travel extensively, attending powwows to share their vibrant legacy and honor their heritage.
