COVID-19 Summer 2021 Guidelines

General Statement: At Lakeland, the health and safety of our community is our top priority. COVID-19 safety plans have been created to ensure fair and consistent processes are established to support employees, students and the public. Date: June 25, 2021

Overview: The Government of Alberta and the Government of Saskatchewan both created roadmaps to outline when COVID-19 restrictions will be eased. In addition, Alberta Advanced Education created a Return to Campus document that Lakeland referenced in creating this document.

Expectations: Lakeland is planning for a return to in-person learning for the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. This will allow students to benefit from the hands-on learning opportunities and campus life experiences available at Lakeland.

Dates Of Restriction Changes: The Government of Alberta will move to removal of restrictions on July 1 so restrictions will change at the Vermilion campus on Monday July 5. In Saskatchewan, restrictions will be lifted July 11. Restrictions will change at the Lloydminster campus on Monday July 12.

Changes to Restrictions at Lakeland Lakeland will gradually move toward a return to normalcy in our day-to-day on-campus operations. Our goal is to build towards a full reopening of our campuses including residences by Aug. 23. Return to work: • Although restrictions will be lifted in July, Lakeland does not expect all employees to return to campus at that time. • Academic schools and departments are working with the human resources department to plan for employees return to campus by Aug. 23. Health measures: • Physical distancing is still recommended. • Although wearing face coverings is no longer required, some people may still wish to wear face coverings depending on their own risk assessment and comfort level. • Until Lakeland has clarity on requirements for contact tracing, staff and students must complete Lakeland’s daily health assessment before coming on campus. • High quality handwashing and hygiene practices must continue. People who are ill must not come on campus. Lakeland will continue with enhanced cleaning of high-touch spaces throughout its campuses. Barriers on counters will remain in place. When two people or more travel in college-owned cars, trucks or vans, face coverings must be worn.

Recreation Centre • The Recreation Centre at the Vermilion campus is now open to the public with enhanced health measures. • The Lloydminster campus recreation area will open to the public Aug. 3. • Please refer to the Recreation Centre for information on guidelines. Public access • Lakeland facilities may be used by the public. Until clarification is received from health authorities, those booking rooms or facilities at Lakeland are responsible for collecting contact information from people using the space. • Visitors may come on campus. However, people are still encouraged to book appointments as in-person staff availability will be limited until the end of August. • Visitors should complete the daily assessment. It is available online on the Lakeland College app, the Lakeland Safe app and at lakelandcollege.ca/covid19. Activities with large gatherings (more than 20 people) • Any activity with a large gathering such as summer camps, social events, research plot tours, and residence move-in should be planned and coordinated with the development of a specific COVID-19 safety plan that is applicable to the nature, size and location of the activity. Summer camps • Summer camps are allowed as long as applicable provincial COVID-19 guidelines are followed. Each participant and, if applicable, parent or guardian, must complete the appropriate COVID-19 waiver. Residence • Residence may plan for close to full occupancy within residences, including the potential for shared accommodation and full use of communal washrooms. • A portion of rooms should be set aside for isolation purposes for quarantine or isolation requirements. Surge of COVID-19 cases • Lakeland must be prepared to react quickly to a surge in cases. This may result in potential short-term closures of programs/activities or a return to people wearing face coverings. • Isolation will still be required for confirmed cases and quarantine for close contacts who are not fully immunized. The dean or director should email covid19@lakelandcollege.ca with the request. Please submit the request at least a week in advance of the expected visit or activity to allow time for review.
